RRS-10K: A Multitask Vision-Language Model Benchmark for Rare Remote Sensing Image Interpretation

Vision-language models (VLMs) have achieved strong performance on general remote sensing tasks. However, their capability for rare scenes remains insufficiently understood, because existing benchmarks are dominated by common urban and rural imagery. To address this gap, we present RRS-10K, a benchmark for rare remote sensing image interpretation. RRS-10K contains 10,738 military-related remote sensing images and corresponding multiple format question-answer pairs for comprehensive evaluation. All of the images are collected from first-hand sources and organized into three capability dimensions, six sub-dimensions, and 20 leaf tasks, covering perception, reasoning, and robustness. To improve the quality of multiple-choice questions, we introduce a similarity-based distractor filtering strategy (SDFS) during benchmark construction. We further evaluate 52 representative models and show that current VLMs achieve only moderate zero-shot performance on rare remote sensing image interpretation, with clear weaknesses in visual grounding, referring segmentation, and complex semantic reasoning tasks. RRS-10K enables systematic analysis of failure modes in long-tail remote sensing interpretation and provides guidance for developing more reliable remote sensing VLMs.

Truth or Sophistry? LoFa: A Benchmark for LLM Robustness Against Logical Fallacies

Large Language Models (LLMs) exhibit strong semantic capabilities, yet their resilience to manipulative linguistic patterns such as logical fallacies remains underexplored. Prior work has primarily examined whether LLMs can identify or classify fallacies, leaving their robustness against fallacious persuasion insufficiently studied. To address this gap, we introduce LoFa (Logical Fallacy), a comprehensive benchmark for evaluating LLM robustness against fallacies. LoFa is constructed through a multi-agent pipeline that pairs factual questions with fallacious arguments, and is accompanied by a multi-round debate framework for assessing model resilience under sustained adversarial persuasion. To disentangle fallacy robustness from a model's inherent knowledge limitations, we further propose Logical Fallacy Resistance at k (LFR@k), a metric that quantifies resistance to fallacious attacks. Experiments show that LLMs exhibit varying levels of robustness across different fallacy types, revealing distinct vulnerability profiles among models.

Tunable Flat Bands and magnetism in Triangulene-based Superatomic Graphene

Superatomic graphene platforms host a rich portfolio of flat-band-driven exotic quantum properties, yet their experimental realization remains challenging. Here, we report the bottom-up on-surface synthesis of superatomic graphene using phosphorus-doped triangulene as building blocks. Scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy measurements resolve the well-defined honeycomb lattice of as-fabricated superatomic graphene and demonstrate the characteristic Dirac band and flat band electronic structures. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the flat bands originate from the in-plane p$_x,_y$-like frontier orbitals of the phosphorus-doped triangulene units, leading to intrinsic half-metallic behavior. Furthermore, oxygen functionalization of the molecular precursor enables deterministic modulation of the electronic structure and magnetic ordering. This work establishes a general platform for designing correlated quantum materials with tunable flat band properties.

Micro-Transfer Printing of Lithium Niobate on 200 mm Silicon Photonics: A High-Speed Heterogeneous Wafer-Scale Platform

The rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) and other data center applications is driving the demand for photonic interconnects that combine high-speed with low energy consumption, making scalability a critical requirement. Micro-transfer printing (MTP) has emerged as a promising technique for the wafer-scale heterogeneous integration of thin film lithium niobate (TFLN) onto silicon photonics (SiPho) platforms. Here, we demonstrate heterogeneous SiPho TFLN integration across four full 200 mm wafers with a 3sigma placement accuracy down to 420 nm and a printing yield of larger than 95percentage. Low insertion loss less than 2 dB over 600 phase modulators (300 amplitude modulators) is achieved. A half wave voltage of 4 V in push pull configuration, and high-speed modulation with a bandwith larger than 70 GHz is demonstrated on a subset of tested devices.

Teaching LLM to be Persuasive: Reward-Enhanced Policy Optimization for Alignment from Heterogeneous Rewards

We deploy large language models (LLMs) as business development (BD) agents for persuasive price negotiation in online travel agencies (OTAs). The agent must follow a multi-stage Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and strict guardrails (no over-promising and no hallucinations), while remaining human-like and effective over long, multi-turn dialogues. We propose Reward-Enhanced Policy Optimization (REPO), a reinforcement learning post-training method that combines heterogeneous rewards: a preference-trained reward model (RM), an LLM-as-a-judge (RJ) for nuanced behaviors (e.g., emotional value and SOP compliance), and rule-based reward functions (RF) (mainly regex-based) for deterministic checks on numerics, formatting, and guardrails. In expert consensus evaluation (three human experts; 30 online conversations and 45 curated bad cases), REPO improves average dialogue rating to 4.63 (+0.33 over GRPO) and raises the share of conversations with at least one excellent response to 66.67% (+23.34 pp over GRPO), while achieving a 93.33% bad-case fix rate with 75.56% clean fixes. In a production A/B test on 9,653 real customer conversations (vs. an intent-driven dialogue system), REPO improves response rate by +12.14 pp and task success rate by +5.94 pp (p<0.001).

Select Smarter, Not More: Prompt-Aware Evaluation Scheduling with Submodular Guarantees

Automatic prompt optimization (APO) hinges on the quality of its evaluation signal, yet scoring every prompt candidate on the full training set is prohibitively expensive. Existing methods either fix a single evaluation subset before optimization begins (principled but prompt-agnostic) or adapt it heuristically during optimization (flexible but unstable and lacking formal guarantees). We observe that APO naturally maps to an online adaptive testing problem: prompts are examinees, training examples are test items, and the scheduler should select items that best discriminate among the strongest candidates. This insight motivates Prompt-Aware Online Evaluation Scheduling (POES), which integrates an IRT-based discrimination utility, a facility-location coverage term, and switching-cost-aware warm-start swaps into a unified objective that is provably monotone submodular, yielding a (1-1/e) greedy guarantee for cold starts and bounded drift for warm-start updates. An adaptive controller modulates the exploration-exploitation balance based on optimization progress. Across 36 tasks spanning three benchmark families, POES achieves the highest overall average accuracy (6.2 percent improvement over the best baseline) with negligible token overhead (approximately 4 percent) at the same evaluation budget. Moreover, principled selection at k = 20 examples matches or exceeds the performance of naive evaluation at k = 30-50, reducing token consumption by 35-60 percent, showing that selecting smarter is more effective than selecting more. Our results demonstrate that evaluation scheduling is a first-class component of APO, not an implementation detail.

Differentiable Stroke Planning with Dual Parameterization for Efficient and High-Fidelity Painting Creation

In stroke-based rendering, search methods often get trapped in local minima due to discrete stroke placement, while differentiable optimizers lack structural awareness and produce unstructured layouts. To bridge this gap, we propose a dual representation that couples discrete polylines with continuous Bézier control points via a bidirectional mapping mechanism. This enables collaborative optimization: local gradients refine global stroke structures, while content-aware stroke proposals help escape poor local optima. Our representation further supports Gaussian-splatting-inspired initialization, enabling highly parallel stroke optimization across the image. Experiments show that our approach reduces the number of strokes by 30-50%, achieves more structurally coherent layouts, and improves reconstruction quality, while cutting optimization time by 30-40% compared to existing differentiable vectorization methods.

Dimensionality tuning of heavy-fermion states in ultrathin CeSi2 films

Dimensionality tuning is an important method to modify the electronic states of quantum materials. However, the mechanism of such tuning in heavy fermion systems and its connection with transport properties remain largely unexplored. Here by combining molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), in-situ angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and transport measurements, we study the electronic states of the heavy-fermion compound CeSi2 as a function of film thickness. In three dimensional thick films, our measurements reveal a dispersive Kondo peak at the Fermi level (EF) and satellite peaks originating from crystal electric field (CEF) excitations, characteristic of heavy fermion systems. For two-dimensional ultrathin films, the CEF satellites are largely suppressed while the ground-state Kondo peak at EF remains strong, although it develops at lower temperatures. Simultaneously, the maximum temperature Tmax of the magnetic resistivity, \r{ho}m(T), changes from ~100 K in thick films to ~35 K in ultrathin films. This can be attributed to the dimensionality driven reduction of CEF excitations during the Kondo process, in good agreement with spectroscopic results. Our work provides direct insight to understand the quantum confinement effects on strongly correlated 4f-electron systems and opens up new opportunities to explore emergent phenomena in two-dimensional heavy-fermion materials.

Learning a Latent Pulse Shape Interface for Photoinjector Laser Systems

Controlling the longitudinal laser pulse shape in photoinjectors of Free-Electron Lasers is a powerful lever for optimizing electron beam quality, but systematic exploration of the vast design space is limited by the cost of brute-force pulse propagation simulations. We present a generative modeling framework based on Wasserstein Autoencoders to learn a differentiable latent interface between pulse shaping and downstream beam dynamics. Our empirical findings show that the learned latent space is continuous and interpretable while maintaining high-fidelity reconstructions. Pulse families such as higher-order Gaussians trace coherent trajectories, while standardizing the temporal pulse lengths shows a latent organization correlated with pulse energy. Analysis via principal components and Gaussian Mixture Models reveals a well behaved latent geometry, enabling smooth transitions between distinct pulse types via linear interpolation. The model generalizes from simulated data to real experimental pulse measurements, accurately reconstructing pulses and embedding them consistently into the learned manifold. Overall, the approach reduces reliance on expensive pulse-propagation simulations and facilitates downstream beam dynamics simulation and analysis.

Pressure-induced superconductivity beyond magnetic quantum criticality in a Kondo ferromagnet

Quantum phase transitions are an established setting for emergent phenomena driven by strong electronic correlations, including strange metals and unconventional superconductivity. These have been explored extensively in Kondo lattice materials tuned to an antiferromagnetic quantum critical point (QCP), but superconductivity emerging near ferromagnetic quantum criticality is not yet observed, and the conditions under which it occurs in proximity to ferromagnetism are undetermined. Here, we report a new setting for superconductivity in the ferromagnetic Kondo-lattice material Ce5CoGe2, where there is a ferromagnetic ground state at ambient pressure, which evolves to antiferromagnetism under applied pressures. The antiferromagnetic transition is suppressed to a zero-temperature QCP, which is accompanied by strange-metal behavior. Superconductivity does not occur at the QCP, but instead appears at pressures beyond the magnetic instability. These findings suggest that Ce5CoGe2 represents a distinct class of correlated materials exhibiting a unique scenario for the emergence of superconductivity, likely associated with unconventional pairing mechanisms beyond spin-fluctuations.

ProxyImg: Towards Highly-Controllable Image Representation via Hierarchical Disentangled Proxy Embedding

Prevailing image representation methods, including explicit representations such as raster images and Gaussian primitives, as well as implicit representations such as latent images, either suffer from representation redundancy that leads to heavy manual editing effort, or lack a direct mapping from latent variables to semantic instances or parts, making fine-grained manipulation difficult. These limitations hinder efficient and controllable image and video editing. To address these issues, we propose a hierarchical proxy-based parametric image representation that disentangles semantic, geometric, and textural attributes into independent and manipulable parameter spaces. Based on a semantic-aware decomposition of the input image, our representation constructs hierarchical proxy geometries through adaptive Bezier fitting and iterative internal region subdivision and meshing. Multi-scale implicit texture parameters are embedded into the resulting geometry-aware distributed proxy nodes, enabling continuous high-fidelity reconstruction in the pixel domain and instance- or part-independent semantic editing. In addition, we introduce a locality-adaptive feature indexing mechanism to ensure spatial texture coherence, which further supports high-quality background completion without relying on generative models. Extensive experiments on image reconstruction and editing benchmarks, including ImageNet, OIR-Bench, and HumanEdit, demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art rendering fidelity with significantly fewer parameters, while enabling intuitive, interactive, and physically plausible manipulation. Moreover, by integrating proxy nodes with Position-Based Dynamics, our framework supports real-time physics-driven animation using lightweight implicit rendering, achieving superior temporal consistency and visual realism compared with generative approaches.

Infinite Magnetoresistance and Vortex Coupling in the Pb/BSCCO Heterostructure

Combining superconductivity with spintronics provides exciting opportunities to realize low-dissipation quantum devices. Here we report the synthesis, characterization and magnetotransport measurements of the Pb/Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ (BSCCO) superconducting heterostructures, where an insulating PbO$_{x}$ layer spontaneously forms at the interface. Non-volatile switching between superconducting (logical "0") and normal ("1") states in Pb films by an external field, i.e., infinite magnetoresistance (IMR), can be realized and are attributed to the strong trapping and pinning of vortices in BSCCO. Furthermore, butterfly-shaped hysteresis loops in magnetoresistance, pronounced resistance dips/jumps and thermal reset to superconducting states can be observed and are direct manifestations of the peculiar vortex dynamics in BSCCO and vortex coupling across the Pb/BSCCO interface. Our work demonstrates a simple and effective way to realize IMR through superconducting vortices and opens up new opportunities to study the vortex interactions across the superconducting interfaces.

AttoSHINE: Generation of continuous-wave terawatt-scale attosecond X-ray pulses at SHINE

Attosecond X-ray pulses are a critical tool for tracking ultrafast electron dynamics in condensed matter, molecular systems, and strongly correlated materials. Recent breakthroughs have pushed X-ray free electron lasers (XFELs) into the attosecond domain, significantly surpassing their previous femtosecond capabilities. Building on these advancements, this work investigates the potential of the Shanghai High Repetition Rate XFEL and Extreme Light Facility (SHINE), China's first continuous-wave (CW) XFEL, to generate intense attosecond X-ray pulses, thereby offering transformative capabilities for X-ray science. Through comprehensive start-to-end simulations, we show that SHINE is capable of producing hard X-ray pulses with peak powers reaching the terawatt-scale and average pulse durations of approximately 300 as. This is achieved using a self-chirping scheme within the existing machine configuration, requiring no additional hardware. Our findings demonstrate that CW XFELs can generate intense attosecond X-ray pulses at megahertz repetition rates, opening new opportunities for real-time studies of electronic dynamics in complex systems.

Enhancing Agentic RL with Progressive Reward Shaping and Value-based Sampling Policy Optimization

Large Language Models (LLMs) empowered with Tool-Integrated Reasoning (TIR) can iteratively plan, call external tools, and integrate returned information to solve complex, long-horizon reasoning tasks. Agentic Reinforcement Learning (Agentic RL) optimizes such models over full tool-interaction trajectories, but two key challenges hinder effectiveness: (1) Sparse, non-instructive rewards, such as binary 0-1 verifiable signals, provide limited guidance for intermediate steps and slow convergence; (2) Gradient degradation in Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO), where identical rewards within a rollout group yield zero advantage, which reducing sample efficiency. To address these challenges, we propose two complementary techniques: Progressive Reward Shaping (PRS) and Value-based Sampling Policy Optimization (VSPO). PRS is a curriculum-inspired reward design that introduces dense, stage-wise feedback - encouraging models to first master parseable and properly formatted tool calls, then optimize for factual correctness and answer quality. We instantiate PRS for short-form QA (with a length-aware BLEU to fairly score concise answers) and long-form QA (with LLM-as-a-Judge scoring to prevent reward hacking). VSPO is an enhanced GRPO variant that replaces zero advantages samples with prompts selected by a task-value metric balancing difficulty and uncertainty, and applies value-smoothing clipping to stabilize gradient updates. Experiments on multiple short-form and long-form QA benchmarks show that PRS consistently outperforms traditional binary rewards, and VSPO achieves superior stability, faster convergence, and higher final performance compared to SFT, PPO and GRPO baselines. Together, PRS and VSPO yield LLM-based TIR agents that generalize better across domains.

Tissue Classification and Whole-Slide Images Analysis via Modeling of the Tumor Microenvironment and Biological Pathways

Automatic integration of whole slide images (WSIs) and gene expression profiles has demonstrated substantial potential in precision clinical diagnosis and cancer progression studies. However, most existing studies focus on individual gene sequences and slide level classification tasks, with limited attention to spatial transcriptomics and patch level applications. To address this limitation, we propose a multimodal network, BioMorphNet, which automatically integrates tissue morphological features and spatial gene expression to support tissue classification and differential gene analysis. For considering morphological features, BioMorphNet constructs a graph to model the relationships between target patches and their neighbors, and adjusts the response strength based on morphological and molecular level similarity, to better characterize the tumor microenvironment. In terms of multimodal interactions, BioMorphNet derives clinical pathway features from spatial transcriptomic data based on a predefined pathway database, serving as a bridge between tissue morphology and gene expression. In addition, a novel learnable pathway module is designed to automatically simulate the biological pathway formation process, providing a complementary representation to existing clinical pathways. Compared with the latest morphology gene multimodal methods, BioMorphNet's average classification metrics improve by 2.67%, 5.48%, and 6.29% for prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, and breast cancer datasets, respectively. BioMorphNet not only classifies tissue categories within WSIs accurately to support tumor localization, but also analyzes differential gene expression between tissue categories based on prediction confidence, contributing to the discovery of potential tumor biomarkers.

IKFST: IOO and KOO Algorithms for Accelerated and Precise WFST-based End-to-End Automatic Speech Recognition

End-to-end automatic speech recognition has become the dominant paradigm in both academia and industry. To enhance recognition performance, the Weighted Finite-State Transducer (WFST) is widely adopted to integrate acoustic and language models through static graph composition, providing robust decoding and effective error correction. However, WFST decoding relies on a frame-by-frame autoregressive search over CTC posterior probabilities, which severely limits inference efficiency. Motivated by establishing a more principled compatibility between WFST decoding and CTC modeling, we systematically study the two fundamental components of CTC outputs, namely blank and non-blank frames, and identify a key insight: blank frames primarily encode positional information, while non-blank frames carry semantic content. Building on this observation, we introduce Keep-Only-One and Insert-Only-One, two decoding algorithms that explicitly exploit the structural roles of blank and non-blank frames to achieve significantly faster WFST-based inference without compromising recognition accuracy. Experiments on large-scale in-house, AISHELL-1, and LibriSpeech datasets demonstrate state-of-the-art recognition accuracy with substantially reduced decoding latency, enabling truly efficient and high-performance WFST decoding in modern speech recognition systems.

3DProxyImg: Controllable 3D-Aware Animation Synthesis from Single Image via 2D-3D Aligned Proxy Embedding

3D animation is central to modern visual media, yet traditional production pipelines remain labor-intensive, expertise-demanding, and computationally expensive. Recent AIGC-based approaches partially automate asset creation and rigging, but they either inherit the heavy costs of full 3D pipelines or rely on video-synthesis paradigms that sacrifice 3D controllability and interactivity. We focus on single-image 3D animation generation and argue that progress is fundamentally constrained by a trade-off between rendering quality and 3D control. To address this limitation, we propose a lightweight 3D animation framework that decouples geometric control from appearance synthesis. The core idea is a 2D-3D aligned proxy representation that uses a coarse 3D estimate as a structural carrier, while delegating high-fidelity appearance and view synthesis to learned image-space generative priors. This proxy formulation enables 3D-aware motion control and interaction comparable to classical pipelines, without requiring accurate geometry or expensive optimization, and naturally extends to coherent background animation. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves efficient animation generation on low-power platforms and outperforms video-based 3D animation generation in identity preservation, geometric and textural consistency, and the level of precise, interactive control it offers to users.

Neural emulation of gravity-driven geohazard runout

Predicting geohazard runout is critical for protecting lives, infrastructure and ecosystems. Rapid mass flows, including landslides and avalanches, cause several thousand deaths across a wide range of environments, often travelling many kilometres from their source. The wide range of source conditions and material properties governing these flows makes their runout difficult to anticipate, particularly for downstream communities that may be suddenly exposed to severe impacts. Accurately predicting runout at scale requires models that are both physically realistic and computationally efficient, yet existing approaches face a fundamental speed-realism trade-off. Here we train a machine learning model to predict geohazard runout across representative real world terrains. The model predicts both flow extent and deposit thickness with high accuracy and 100 to 10,000 times faster computation than numerical solvers. It is trained on over 100,000 numerical simulations across over 10,000 real world digital elevation model chips and reproduces key physical behaviours, including avulsion and deposition patterns, while generalizing across different flow types, sizes and landscapes. Our results demonstrate that neural emulation enables rapid, spatially resolved runout prediction across diverse real world terrains, opening new opportunities for disaster risk reduction and impact-based forecasting. These results highlight neural emulation as a promising pathway for extending physically realistic geohazard modelling to spatial and temporal scales relevant for large scale early warning systems.
