A domain wall in twisted M-theory

We study a four-dimensional domain wall in twisted M-theory. The domain wall is engineered by intersecting D6 branes in the type IIA frame. We identify the classical algebra of operators on the domain wall in terms of a higher vertex operator algebra, which describes the holomorphic subsector of a 4d $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric field theory, and compute the associated mode algebra. We conjecture that the quantum deformation of the classical algebra is isomorphic to the bulk algebra of operators from which we establish twisted holography of the domain wall.

Note on some properties of generalized affine Grassmannian slices

Braverman, Finkelberg and Nakajima introduced the generalized affine Grassmannian slices $\overline{\mathcal W}^λ_μ$ and showed that they are Coulomb branches of $3d$ $\mathcal N=4$ gauge theories. We prove a conjecture of theirs that a transversal slice of $\mathcal W^ν_μ$ in $\overline{\mathcal W}^λ_μ$ is isomorphic to $\overline{\mathcal W}^λ_ν$. In addition, they conjecture that Coulomb branches of $3d$ $\mathcal N=4$ gauge theories have symplectic singularities, and we confirm this conjecture for generalized affine Grassmannian slices $\overline{\mathcal W}^λ_μ$. Along the way we give a new proof of the smoothness of $\mathcal W^ν_μ$, which has been previously proven by Muthiah and Weekes using different method.

Twisted holography of defect fusions

In the twisted M-theory setting, various types of fusion of M2 and M5 branes induce coproducts between the algebra of operators on M2 branes and the algebra of operators on M5 branes. By doing a perturbative computation in the gravity side, which is captured by the 5d topological holomorphic $U(1)$ Chern-Simons theory, we reproduce the non-perturbative coproducts.

Feynman diagrams and $Ω$-deformed M-theory

We derive the simplest commutation relations of operator algebras associated to M2 branes and an M5 brane in the $Ω$-deformed M-theory, which is a natural set-up for Twisted holography. Feynman diagram 1-loop computations in the twisted-holographic dual side reproduce the same algebraic relations.

Topological Holography: The Example of The D2-D4 Brane System

We propose a toy model for holographic duality. The model is constructed by embedding a stack of $N$ D2-branes and $K$ D4-branes (with one dimensional intersection) in a 6D topological string theory. The world-volume theory on the D2-branes (resp. D4-branes) is 2D BF theory (resp. 4D Chern-Simons theory) with $\mathrm{GL}_N$ (resp. $\mathrm{GL}_K$) gauge group. We propose that in the large $N$ limit the BF theory on $\mathbb{R}^2$ is dual to the closed string theory on $\mathbb R^2 \times \mathbb R_+ \times S^3$ with the Chern-Simons defect on $\mathbb R \times \mathbb R_+ \times S^2$. As a check for the duality we compute the operator algebra in the BF theory, along the D2-D4 intersection -- the algebra is the Yangian of $\mathfrak{gl}_K$. We then compute the same algebra, in the guise of a scattering algebra, using Witten diagrams in the Chern-Simons theory. Our computations of the algebras are exact (valid at all loops). Finally, we propose a physical string theory construction of this duality using a D3-D5 brane configuration in type IIB -- using supersymmetric twist and $Ω$-deformation.

Supersymmetric SYK model and random matrix theory

In this paper, we investigate the effect of supersymmetry on the symmetry classification of random matrix theory ensembles. We mainly consider the random matrix behaviors in the $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric generalization of the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) model, a toy model for the two-dimensional quantum black hole with supersymmetric constraint. Some analytical arguments and numerical results are given to show that the statistics of the supersymmetric SYK model could be interpreted as random matrix theory ensembles, with a different eight-fold classification from the original SYK model and some new features. The time-dependent evolution of the spectral form factor is also investigated, where predictions from random matrix theory are governing the late time behavior of the chaotic Hamiltonian with supersymmetry.

Note on Green Function Formalism and Topological Invariants

It has been discovered previously that the topological order parameter could be identified from the topological data of the Green's function, namely the (generalized) TKNN invariant in general dimensions, for both non-interacting and interacting systems. In this note, we show that this phenomenon has a clear geometric derivation. This proposal could be regarded as an alternative proof for the identification of the corresponding topological invariant and the topological order parameter.

On the Existence of Heterotic-String and Type-II-Superstring Field Theory Vertices

We consider two problems associated to the space of Riemann surfaces that are closely related to string theory. We first consider the problem of existence of heterotic-string and type-II-superstring field theory vertices in the product of spaces of bordered surfaces parameterizing left- and right-moving sectors of these theories. It turns out that this problem can be solved by proving the existence of a solution to the BV quantum master equation in moduli spaces of bordered spin-Riemann surfaces. We first prove that for arbitrary genus $g$, $n_{\text{NS}}$ Neveu-Schwarz boundary components, and $n_{\text{R}}$ Ramond boundary components such solutions exist. We also prove that these solutions are unique up to homotopies in the category of BV algebras and are mapped to fundamental classes of Deligne-Mumford stacks of associated punctured spin curves. These results generalize the work of Costello on the existence of a solution to the BV quantum master equations in moduli spaces of bordered ordinary Riemann surfaces. Using this, we prove that heterotic-string and type-II-superstring field theory vertices exist. Furthermore, we prove the existence of a solution to the BV quantum master equation in spaces of bordered $\mathscr{N}=1$ super-Riemann surfaces for arbitrary genus $g$, $n_{\text{NS}}$ Neveu-Schwarz boundary components, and $n_{\text{R}}$ Ramond boundary components. Secondly, we turn to the moduli problem of stable $\mathscr{N}=1$ SUSY curves. Using Vaintrob's deformation theory of complex superspaces and Deligne's model for the compactification of the space of $\mathscr{N}=1$ SUSY curves, we prove the representability of this moduli problem by a proper smooth Deligne-Mumford superstack. This is a generalization of the work of Deligne and Mumford on the representability of the moduli problem of stable ordinary curves by a Deligne-Mumford stack.

Note on global symmetry and SYK model

The goal of this note is to explore the behavior of effective action in the SYK model with general continuous global symmetries. A global symmetry will decompose the whole Hamiltonian of a many-body system to several single charge sectors. For the SYK model, the effective action near the saddle point is given as the free product of the Schwarzian action part and the free action of the group element moving in the group manifold. With a detailed analysis in the free sigma model, we prove a modified version of Peter-Weyl theorem that works for generic spin structure. As a conclusion, we could make a comparison between the thermodynamics and the spectral form factors between the whole theory and the single charge sector, to make predictions on the SYK model and see how symmetry affects the chaotic behavior in certain timescales.

No Particle Production in Two Dimensions: Recursion Relations and Multi-Regge Limit

We introduce high-energy limits which allow us to derive recursion relations fixing the various couplings of Lagrangians of two-dimensional relativistic quantum field theories with no tree-level particle production in a very straightforward way. The sine-Gordon model, the Bullough-Dodd theory, Toda theories of various kinds and the U(N) non-linear sigma model can all be rediscovered in this way. The results here were the outcome of our explorations at the 2017 Perimeter Institute Winter School.

On thermalization in the SYK and supersymmetric SYK models

The eigenstate thermalization hypothesis is a compelling conjecture which strives to explain the apparent thermal behavior of generic observables in closed quantum systems. Although we are far from a complete analytic understanding, quantum chaos is often seen as a strong indication that the ansatz holds true. In this paper, we address the thermalization of energy eigenstates in the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model, a maximally chaotic model of strongly-interacting Majorana fermions. We numerically investigate eigenstate thermalization for specific few-body operators in the original SYK model as well as its $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric extension and find evidence that these models satisfy ETH. We discuss the implications of ETH for a gravitational dual and the quantum information-theoretic properties of SYK it suggests.

Syzygies Probing Scattering Amplitudes

We propose a new efficient algorithm to obtain the locally minimal generating set of the syzygies for an ideal, i.e. a generating set whose proper subsets cannot be generating sets. Syzygy is a concept widely used in the current study of scattering amplitudes. This new algorithm can deal with more syzygies effectively because a new generation of syzygies is obtained in each step and the irreducibility of this generation is also verified in the process. This efficient algorithm can also be applied in getting the syzygies for the modules. We also show a typical example to illustrate the potential application of this method in scattering amplitudes, especially the Integral-By-Part(IBP) relations of the characteristic two-loop diagrams in the Yang-Mills theory.
