On the Homotopy Coherent Nielsen Realization Problem for K3-Type 4-Manifolds
We study the homotopy coherent analogue of the Nielsen realization problem for smooth 4-manifolds. Using family Seiberg-Witten theory, we prove that for K3-type 4-manifolds and their blow-ups, certain order two subgroups cannot be realized even homotopy coherently. This in particular gives an alternative proof that the classical Nielsen realization fails for these manifolds. In contrast, we also construct non-kinetic homotopy coherent actions that are not induced by genuine group actions.
