Anyon-induced non-Hermitian topological phases

We show that anyonic exchange statistics can activate non-Hermitian point-gap topology in models that are topologically trivial in its absence. The emergent topology oscillates more rapidly with the statistical phase as the anyon number increases, and exhibits a parity dependence on the particle number. A perturbative analysis reveals the mechanism: fractional statistics induces a mismatch between momentum terms that, combined with sublattice-dependent dissipation, produces particle-number-dependent non-reciprocity and complex spectral winding. As these effects rely on the formation and exchange of interaction-bound anyons, our results establish exchange statistics as a resource for enabling non-Hermitian topology under programmed dissipation.

Bots can Snoop: Uncovering and Mitigating Privacy Risks of Bots in Group Chats

New privacy concerns arise with chatbots on group messaging platforms. Chatbots may access information beyond their intended functionalities, such as sender identities or messages unintended for chatbots. Chatbot developers may exploit such information to infer personal information and link users across groups, potentially leading to data breaches, pervasive tracking, or targeted advertising. Our analysis of conversation datasets shows that (1) chatbots often access far more messages than needed, and (2) when a user joins a new group with chatbots, there is a 3.6% chance that at least one of the chatbots can recognize and associate the user with their previous interactions in other groups. Although state-of-the-art (SoA) group messaging protocols provide robust end-to-end encryption and some platforms have implemented policies to limit chatbot access, no platforms successfully combine these features. This paper introduces SnoopGuard, a secure group messaging protocol that ensures user privacy against chatbots while maintaining strong end-to-end security. Our protocol offers (1) selective message access, preventing chatbots from accessing unrelated messages, and (2) sender anonymity, hiding user identities from chatbots. SnoopGuard achieves $O(\log n + m)$ message-sending complexity for a group of $n$ users and $m$ chatbots, compared to $O(\log(n + m))$ in SoA protocols, with acceptable overhead for enhanced privacy. Our prototype implementation shows that sending a message to a group of 50 users and 10 chatbots takes about 10 milliseconds when integrated with Message Layer Security (MLS).

Non-Hermitian skin effect in fragmented Hilbert spaces of one-dimensional fermionic lattices

We discover that the interplay between Hilbert space fragmentation and multiple non-Hermitian pumping channels leads to distinct non-Hermitian skin effect (NHSE) in real and Fock spaces. Using an extended Hatano-Nelson model with next-nearest neighbor hopping and a strong interaction as an example, we find that two fermions loaded in the lattice exhibit different real-space NHSE depending on the Hilbert space fragments they belong to. Moreover, in the high-energy sector resulting from the fragmentation, the two-particle bound states form a one-dimensional lattice in Fock space, resulting in the Fock-space NHSE. At half-filling, while real-space NHSE is suppressed by many-body effects, richer patterns of Fock-space skin-like localization are found to emerge for different fragmented energy sectors and subsectors. This work extends our understanding of the interplay between NHSE and Hilbert space fragmentation and provides detailed insights into their manifestation in interacting non-Hermitian systems.

The dynamical second-order transport coefficients of smeared Dp-brane

The smeared Dp-brane is constructed by having the black Dp-brane uniformly smeared over several transverse directions. After integrating the spherical directions and the smeared directions, the smeared Dp-brane turns out to be a Chamblin-Reall model with one background scalar field. Within the framework of the fluid/gravity correspondence, we not only prove the equivalence between the smeared Dp-brane and the compactified Dp-brane by explicitly calculating the 7 dynamical second-order transport coefficients of their dual relativistic fluids, but also revisit the Correlated Stability Conjecture for the smeared Dp-brane via the fluid/gravity correspondence.
