Study on the structure of the four-quark states in terms of the Born-Oppenheimer approximation

In this work, we use the Born-Oppenheimer approximation where the potential between atoms can be approximated as a function of distance between the two nuclei to study the four-quark bound states. By the approximation, Heitler and London calculated the spectrum of hydrogen molecule which includes two protons (heavy) and two electrons (light). Generally, the observed exotic mesons $Z_b(10610)$, $Z_b(10650)$, $Z_c(3900)$ and $Z_c(4020)$($Z_c(4025)$) may be molecular states made of two physical mesons and/or in diquark-anti-diquark structures. In analog to the Heitler-London method for calculating the mass of hydrogen molecule, we investigate whether there exist energy minima for these two structures. By contrary to the hydrogen molecule case where only the spin-triplet possesses an energy minimum, there exist minima for both of them. It implies that both molecule and tetraquark states can be stable objects. But since they have the same quantum numbers, the two states may mix to result in the physical states. A consequence would be that partner exotic states co-existing with $Z_b(10610)$, $Z_b(10650)$, $Z_c(3900)$ and $Z_c(4020)$($Z_c(4025)$) are predicted and should be experimentally observed.

Re-study on the contribution of scalar potential and spectra of $c\bar c$, $b\bar b$ and $b\bar c(\bar b c)$ families

We indicated in our previous work that for QED the role of the scalar potential which appears at the loop level is much smaller than that of the vector potential and in fact negligible. But the situation is different for QCD, one reason is that the loop effects are more significant because $α_s$ is much larger than $α$, and secondly the non-perturbative QCD effects may induce a sizable scalar potential. In this work, we phenomenologically study the contribution of the scalar potential to the spectra of charmonia, bottomonia and $b\bar c(\bar b c)$ family. Taking into account both vector and scalar potentials, by fitting the well measured charmonia and bottomonia spectra, we re-fix the relevant parameters and test them by calculating other states of not only the charmonia, bottomonia, but also further the $b\bar c$ family. We also consider the Lamb shift of the spectra.

Symmetry of Dirac Equation and Corresponding Phenomenology

It has been suggested that the high symmetries in the Schrödinger equation with the Coulomb or harmonic oscillator potentials may remain in the corresponding relativistic Dirac equation. If the principle is correct, in the Dirac equation the potential should have a form as ${(1+β)\over 2}V(r)$ where $V(r)$ is ${-e^2\over r}$ for hydrogen atom and $κr^2$ for harmonic oscillator. However, in the case of hydrogen atom, by this combination the spin-orbit coupling term would not exist and it is inconsistent with the observational spectra of hydrogen atom, so that the symmetry of SO(4) must reduce into SU(2). The governing mechanisms QED and QCD which induce potential are vector-like theories, so at the leading order only vector potential exists. However, the higher order effects may cause a scalar fraction. In this work, we show that for QED, the symmetry restoration is very small and some discussions on the symmetry breaking are made. At the end, we briefly discuss the QCD case and indicate that the situation for QCD is much more complicated and interesting.

Testing the Bell Inequality at Experiments of High Energy Physics

Besides using the laser beam, it is very tempting to directly testify the Bell inequality at high energy experiments where the spin correlation is exactly what the original Bell inequality investigates. In this work, we follow the proposal raised in literature and use the successive decays $J/ψ\toγη_c\to Λ\barΛ\to pπ^-\bar pπ^+$ to testify the Bell inequality. Our goal is twofold, namely, we first make a Monte-Carlo simulation of the processes based on the quantum field theory (QFT). Since the underlying theory is QFT, it implies that we pre-admit the validity of quantum picture. Even though the QFT is true, we need to find how big the database should be, so that we can clearly show deviations of the correlation from the Bell inequality determined by the local hidden variable theory. There have been some critiques on the proposed method, so in the second part, we suggest some improvements which may help to remedy the ambiguities indicated by the critiques. It may be realized at an updated facility of high energy physics, such as BES III.

Bell Inequalities in High Energy Physics

We review in this paper the research status on testing the completeness of Quantum mechanics in High Energy Physics, especially on the Bell Inequalities. We briefly introduce the basic idea of Einstein, Podolsky, and Rosen paradox and the results obtained in photon experiments. In the tests of Bell inequalities in high energy physics, the early attempts of using spin correlations in particle decays and later on the mixing of neutral mesons used to form the quasi-spin entangled states are covered. The related experimental results in K^0 and B^0 systems are presented and discussed. We introduce the new scheme, which is based on the non-maximally entangled state and proposed to implement in ϕfactory, in testing the Local Hidden Variable Theory. And, we also discuss the possibility in generalizing it to the tau charm factory.

Baryon spectra and non-strange baryon strong decays in the chiral SU(3) quark model

In the framework chiral SU(3) quark model, the baryon spectra within the band of $N\leq 2$ are studied, and the effect of the confining potential in different configurations, namely the $Δ$-mode and Y-mode are compared. In the same way, the baryon spectra in the extended chiral SU(3) quark model, in which additional vector meson exchanges are introduced, are also calculated. It is shown that a reasonable baryon spectrum in the chiral SU(3) quark model can be achieved no matter whether the $Δ$-mode or the Y-mode confining potential is employed. In the extended chiral SU(3) quark model, several energy levels are further improved. The resultant binding energies of excited baryon states in different confining modes deviate just by a few to several tens MeV, and it is hard to justify which confining mode is the dominant one. The non-strange baryon strong decay widths are further discussed in the point-like meson emission model by using the wave-function obtained in the spectrum calculation. The resultant widths can generally explain the experimental data but still cannot distinguish which confining mode is more important in this simple decay mode.

Study on the Form Factors at Effective Vertices of Diqarks Interacting with Gauge Bosons

The diquark structure in baryons is commonly accepted as a reasonable approximation which can much simplify the picture and reduce the length of calculations. However, a diquark by no means is a point-like particle, even though it is treated as a whole object. Therefore, to apply the diquark picture to the phenomenological calculations, at the effective vertices for the diquark-gauge boson interactions, suitable form factors must be introduced to compensate the effects caused by the inner structure of the diquark. It is crucial to derive the appropriate form factors for various interactions. In this work, we use the Bethe-Salpeter equation to derive such form factors and numerically evaluate their magnitudes.

Study on Strong Decays of $D_{sJ}(2632)$

The resonance $D_{sJ}(2632)$ observed by SELEX, has attracted great interests and meanwhile brought up serious dispute. Its spin-parity, so far has not finally determined and if it exists, its quark-structure might be exotic. Following the previous literature where $D_{sJ}(2632)$ is assumed to be a radial-excited state of $1^-$, we consider the possibilities that it might be a $q\bar q$ ground state of $2^+$ or the first radial-excited state of $0^+$ $D_{sJ}(2317)$ and re-calculate its strong decay widths in terms of the Bethe-Salpeter equation. Our results indicate that there still is a sharp discrepancy between the theoretical evaluation and data.

Spectra of Free Diquark in the Bethe-Salpeter Approach

In this work, we employ the Bethe-Salpeter (B-S) equation to investigate the spectra of free diquarks and their B-S wave functions. We find that the B-S approach can be consistently applied to study the diqaurks with two heavy quarks or one heavy and one light quarks, but for two light-quark systems, the results are not reliable. There are a few free parameters in the whole scenario which can only be fixed phenomenologically. Thus, to determine them, one has to study baryons which are composed of quarks and diquarks.

Contributions from Goldstone-boson-exchange to baryon spectra in the MIT Bag Model

We discuss contributions of chiral bosons to baryon spectra in the MIT bag model. It is believed that within hadrons, chiral bosons are degrees of freedom which are independent of gluons to provide strong interactions between quarks. In the original MIT bag model, only interaction mediated by gluon exchanges was considered, by contrast, in this work we take into account the interaction mediated by the exchanges of chiral bosons $σ$ and $π^{(\pm,0)}$. Then following the standard approach, we minimize the effective hamiltonian which includes both the contributions from gluon and chiral-boson exchanges with respect to the bag radius to obtain the effective radius. By re-fitting the spectra of baryons, we find that the contributions from the boson-exchange may be 40% of that from gluon-exchanges and meanwhile the bag constant $B$, the zero-point energy $z_0$ almost do not change. It indicates that in the original version of the MIT bag model, the intermediate-distance interaction due to the chiral-boson exchanges is attributed into the effective coupling $α_c$ which stood for the short-distance interaction caused by the gluon exchanges and the long-distance effects reflected by $B$ and $z_0$ are not influenced.

Can the observed enhancement in the mass spectrum of p \bar p in J/ψ\to γp \bar p be interpreted by a possible p \bar p bound state

Provided the enhancement in the $p \bar{p}$ spectrum in radiative decay $J/ψ\to γp \bar{p}$ observed by the BES collaboration is due to an existence of a $p \bar{p}$ molecular state, we calculate its binding energy and lifetime in the linear $σ$ model. We consider a possibility that the enhancement is due to a $p \bar p$ resonance which is in either S-wave or P-wave structure and compare our results with the data.

Evaluation of Spectra of Baryons Containing Two Heavy Quarks in Bag Model

In this work, we evaluate the energy spectra of baryons which consist of two heavy and one light quarks in the MIT bag model. The two heavy quarks constitute a heavy scalar or axial vector diquark. Concretely, we calculate the spectra of $|q(QQ')>_{1/2}$ and $|q(QQ')>_{3/2}$ where $Q$ and $Q'$ stand for $b$ and/or $c$ quarks. Especially, for $|q(bc)>_{1/2}$ there can be a mixing between $|q(bc)_0>_{1/2}$ and $|q(bc)_1>_{1/2}$ where the subscripts 0 and 1 refer to the spin state of the diquark (bc), the mixing is not calculable in the framework of quantum mechanics (QM) as the potential model is employed, but can be evaluated by the quantum field theory (QFT). Our numerical results indicate that the mixing is sizeable

Estimating Mass of Sigma-Meson and Study on Application of the Linear Sigma-Model

Whether the $σ-meson$ ($f_0(600)$) exists as a real particle is a long-standing problem in both particle physics and nuclear physics. In this work, we analyze the deuteron binding energy in the linear $σ$ model and by fitting the data, we are able to determine the range of $m_σ$ and also investigate applicability of the linear $σ$ model for the interaction between hadrons in the energy region of MeV's. Our result shows that the best fit to the data of the deuteron binding energy and other experimental data about deuteron advocates a narrow range for the $σ-$meson mass as $520\leq m_σ\leq 580$ MeV and the concrete values depend on the input parameters such as the couplings. Inversely fitting the experimental data, our results set constraints on the couplings. The other relevant phenomenological parameters in the model are simultaneously obtained.

Molecular States and 1^-+ Exotic Mesons

This work investigates whether the observed 1^-+ exotic mesons are molecular states. We first use a potential model to calculate the spectra and lifetimes of the f_0(980) and a_0(980), taken to be loosely bound molecular states of K Kbar, then apply the same scenario to the 1^-+ exotic states pi_1(1400) and pi_1(1600), assuming them to be pi eta(1295) and pi eta(1440) molecules respectively. We derive the effective potential in the framework of field theory at the hadronic level. Our results indicate that the present data on pi_1(1400) and pi_1(1600) rule out the specific molecular ansatz. We show that the lifetime of a loosely bound heavy-light molecule with enough angular momentum is fully determined by the lifetimes of its constituent mesons.

Applicability of the Friedberg-Lee-Zhao method

Friedberg, Lee and Zhao proposed a method for effectively evaluating the eigenenergies and eigen wavefunctions of quantum systems. In this work, we study several special cases to investigate applicability of the method. Concretely, we calculate the ground-state eigenenergy of the Hellmann potential as well as the Cornell potential, and also evaluate the energies of the systems where linear term is added to the Coulomb and harmonic oscillator potentials as a perturbation. The results obtained in this method have a surprising agreement with the traditional method or the numerical results. Since the results in this method have obvious analyticity compared to that in other methods, and because of the simplicity for calculations this method can be applied to solving the Schrödinger equation and provides us better understanding of the physical essence of the concerned systems. But meanwhile applications of the FLZ method are restricted at present, especially for certain potential forms, but due to its obvious advantages, it should be further developed.

Application of Hypervirial Theorem As Criteria For Accuracy of Variational Trial Wave Function

It would be interesting to investigate the accuracy of the results obtained in the variational method, because it is important for studying hadron spectra. One can define some criteria to judge the accuracy, or the quality of the trial function. We employ a simple potential form to check how accurate the variational results obtained by a single-parameter trial function can be. All the concerned problems, in particular, the relevant aspects on the application of hypervirial theorem in variational method for various potential forms, are discussed in every detail. The qualitative conclusion of the work can be generalized to much more complicated cases. Our study suggests that the hypervirial relations can serve as a good and practical criterion for judging the accuracy of any trial functions.

Spectra of Baryons Containing Two Heavy Quarks in Potential Model

In this work, we employ the effective vertices for interaction between diquarks (scalar or axial-vector) and gluon where the form factors are derived in terms of the B-S equation, to obtain the potential for baryons including a light quark and a heavy diquark. The concerned phenomenological parameters are obtained by fitting data of $B^{(*)}-$mesons instead of the heavy quarkonia. The operator ordering problem in quantum mechanics is discussed. Our numerical results indicate that the mass splitting between $B_{3/2}(V), B_{1/2}(V)$ and $B_{1/2}(S)$ is very small and it is consistent with the heavy quark effective theory (HQET).

Comment on " a unified scheme for flavored mesons and baryons"

We would comment on the results of the paper "a unified scheme for flavored mesons and baryons" (P.C.Vinodkumar, J.N.Panandya, V.M.Bannur, and S.B.Khadkikar Eur. Phys. J. A4(1999)83), and point out some inconsistencies and mistakes in the work for solving the Dirac equation. In terms of an example for a single particle we investigate the reliability of the perturbative method for computing the Coulomb energy and discuss the contribution to the wavefunction at origin from the Coulomb potential. We conclude that the accuracy of their numerical results needs to be reconsidered.
