More on the Concept of Anti-integrability for Hénon Maps

For the family of Hénon maps $(x,y)\mapsto (\sqrt{a}(1-x^2)-b y,x)$ of $\mathbb{R}^2$, the so-called anti-integrable (AI) limit concerns the limit $a\to\infty$ with fixed Jacobian $b$. At the AI limit, the dynamics reduces to a subshift of finite type. There is a one-to-one correspondence between sequences allowed by the subshift and the AI orbits. The theory of anti-integrability says that each AI orbit can be continued to becoming a genuine orbit of the Hénon map for $a$ sufficiently large (and fixed Jacobian). In this paper, we assume $b$ is a smooth function of $a$ and show that the theory can be extended to investigating the limit $\lim_{a\to\infty} b/\sqrt{a}=\hat{r}$ for any $\hat{r}>0$ provided that the one dimensional quadratic map $x\mapsto \displaystyle\frac{1}{\hat{r}}(1-x^2)$ is hyperbolic.

A Proof of the Persistence of Anti-integrable States for Three-Dimensional Quadratic Diffeomorphisms

Three-dimensional quadratic diffeomorphisms with quadratic inverse generically have five independent parameters. When some parameters approach infinity, the diffeomorphisms may exhibit a so-called anti-integrable limit in the traditional sense of Aubry and Abramovici. That is, the dynamics of the diffeomorphisms reduce to symbolic dynamics on a finite number of symbols. However, the diffeomorphisms may reduce to quadratic correspondences when parameters approach infinity, and the traditional anti-integrable limit does not deal with this situation. Meiss asked what about an anti-integrable limit for it. Remarkable progress was achieved very recently by the work of Hampton and Meiss [SIAM J. Appl. Dyn. Syst. 21 (2022), pp. 650--675]. Using the contraction mapping theorem, they showed there is a bijection between the anti-integrable states and the sequences of branches of a quadratic correspondence. They also showed that an anti-integrable state can be continued to a genuine orbit of the three-dimensional diffeomorphism. This paper aims to contribute to the progress, by means of the implicit function theorem. We shall show that, under a slightly more restricted condition than that imposed by Hampton and Meiss, the bijection indeed is a topological conjugacy and establish the uniform hyperbolicity of the continued genuine orbits.

From Hyperbolic to Parabolic Parameters along Internal Rays

For the quadratic family $f_{c}(z) = z^2+c$ with $c$ in a hyperbolic component of the Mandelbrot set, it is known that every point in the Julia set moves holomorphically. In this paper we give a uniform derivative estimate of such a motion when the parameter $c$ converges to a parabolic parameter $\hat{c}$ radially; in other words, it stays within a bounded Poincaré distance from the internal ray that lands on $\hat{c}$. We also show that the motion of each point in the Julia set is uniformly one-sided Hölder continuous at $\hat{c}$ with exponent depending only on the petal number. This paper is a parabolic counterpart of the authors' paper ``From Cantor to semi-hyperbolic parameters along external rays" (Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 372 (2019) pp. 7959--7992).

Holomorphic Shadowing for Hénon Maps Revisited: an Implicit Function Theorem Perspective

In studying the complex Hénon maps, Mummert (in "Holomorphic shadowing for Hénon maps" Nonlinearity 21 pp. 2887-2898, 2008) defined an operator the fixed points of which give rise to bounded orbits. This enabled him to obtain an estimate of the solenoid locus. Instead of the contraction mapping theorem, in this paper we present an implicit function theorem version of his result by providing an alternative proof of a theorem of Hubbard and Oberste-Vorth (in Real and Complex Dynamical Systems, pp.89-132, 1995).

From Cantor to Semi-hyperbolic Parameter along External Rays

For the quadratic family $f_{c}(z) = z^2+c$ with $c$ in the exterior of the Mandelbrot set, it is known that every point in the Julia set moves holomorphically. Let $\hat{c}$ be a semi-hyperbolic parameter in the boundary of the Mandelbrot set. In this paper we prove that for each $z = z(c)$ in the Julia set, the derivative $dz(c)/dc$ is uniformly $O(1/\sqrt{|c-\hat{c}|})$ when $c$ belongs to a parameter ray that lands on $\hat{c}$. We also characterize the degeneration of the dynamics along the parameter ray.

Simple Proofs for the Derivative Estimates of the Holomorphic Motion near Two Boundary Points of the Mandelbrot Set

For the complex quadratic family $q_c:z\mapsto z^2+c$, it is known that every point in the Julia set $J(q_c)$ moves holomorphically on $c$ except at the boundary points of the Mandelbrot set. In this note, we present short proofs of the following derivative estimates of the motions near the boundary points $1/4$ and $-2$: for each $z = z(c)$ in the Julia set, the derivative $dz(c)/dc$ is uniformly $O(1/\sqrt{1/4-c})$ when real $c\nearrow 1/4$; and is uniformly $O(1/\sqrt{-2-c})$ when real $c\nearrow -2$. These estimates of the derivative imply Hausdorff convergence of the Julia set $J(q_c)$ when $c$ approaches these boundary points. In particular, the Hausdorff distance between $J(q_c)$ with $0\le c<1/4$ and $J(q_{1/4})$ is exactly $\sqrt{1/4-c}$.
