Optomechanically induced transparency in Four-wave mixing atomic ensemble assisted Laguerre-Gaussian vortex cavity system

We investigate the steady-state optical response of a Laguerre-Gaussian vortex cavity system integrated with cold atoms featuring a double-$Λ$ energy level structure. Within this hybrid system, the atoms are driven by cavity mode and three coherent vortex beams, each carrying independent orbital angular momentum (OAM). We first check the steady-state output spectrum of the hybrid system in the passive/active case (without/with external cavity driving). Our findings reveal that the optomechanically induced transparency (OMIT) spectrum is modulated by the OAM difference $(Δ\ell\hbar)$ from the atomic component throughout the four-wave mixing (FWM) process. The resulting loop phase ($Δ\ellθ$) can achieve a switching effect on the absorption and gain behavior of the hybrid system for the probe beam. Additionally, the group delay, indicative of fast/slow light phenomena, is also tuned by $Δ\ell$. We further display how the atomic OAM modulates the periodicity of the output spot pattern in the hybrid system. This research provides valuable insights into the modulation of optical responses in Laguerre-Gaussian vortex cavity systems.

Polarization dependent non-Hermitian atomic grating controlled by dipole blockade effect

We propose a theoretical scheme for a non-Hermitian atomic grating within an ultra-cold rubidium-87 ($^{87}Rb$) atomic ensemble. The grating's diffraction properties depend on the polarization states of incident photons and are controlled non-locally through Rydberg interactions. Multiple types of polarization-dependent diffraction modes are generated, benefiting from no crosstalk atomic transition channels based on transition selection rules. Those polarization-dependent diffraction modes can be switched using dynamic optical pulse trains, exploiting the Rydberg blockade effect, and are tunable by non-Hermitian optical modulation. Our work will advance the application of asymmetric optical scattering by utilizing the polarization degree of freedom within continuous media and benefit the application of versatile non-Hermitian/asymmetric optical devices.

Long-range dipole-dipole exchange-induced atomic grating

We propose a theoretical scheme for dipole exchange-induced grating (DEIG) based on a hybrid system consisting of ultra-cold Rubidium ($^{87}$Rb) atomic ensemble and movable Rydberg spin atoms. The optical response of the grating appears as a superposition of three- and four-level configurations, similar to the cooperative optical nonlinear effect caused by the dipole blockade effect. However, such Rydberg atomic grating uniquely responds to the spatial positions of spin atoms, offering a novel approach to dynamically control electromagnetically induced gratings (EIG) except for input probe intensity.

Lopsided optical diffraction in loop electromagnetically induced grating

We propose a theoretical scheme in a cold Rubidium-87 ($^{87}$Rb) atomic ensemble with a non-Hermitian optical structure, in which a lopsided optical diffraction grating can be realized just with the combination of single spatially periodic modulation and loop-phase.~Parity-time ($\mathcal{PT}$) symmetric and parity-time antisymmetric ($\mathcal{APT}$) modulation can be switched by adjusting different relative phases of the applied beams. Both $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry and $\mathcal{PT}$ antisymmetry in our system are robust to the amplitudes of coupling fields, which allows optical response to be modulated precisely without symmetry breaking. Our scheme shows some nontrivial optical properties, such as lopsided diffraction, single-order diffraction, asymmetric Dammam-like diffraction, etc. Our work will benefit the development of versatile non-Hermitian/asymmetric optical devices.

Spatial Kramers-Kronig relation and unidirectional light reflection induced by Rydberg dipole-dipole interactions

Kramers-Kronig (KK) relation between the dispersion and absorption responses of a signal field can be mapped from the frequency domain into the space domain via the dipole-dipole interactions between a homogeneous sample of target atoms and a control atom. This is achieved by establishing an effective two-level configuration for the three-level target atoms in the single-photon far-detuned driving regime while maintaining a high Rydberg excitation for the three-level control atom in the single-photon resonant driving regime. We find in particular that it is viable to realize a dynamically tunable spatial KK relation supporting asymmetric and even unidirectional reflection for appropriate signal frequencies in a controlled range. Taking a periodic lattice of target atoms instead, multiple Bragg scattering can be further incorporated into spatial KK relation to largely enhance the nonzero reflectivity yet without breaking the asymmetric or unidirectional reflection.

All-optical photon transmission switching in a passive-active optomechanical system

We propose a feasible scheme to realize all-optical photon transmission switching in a passiveactive optomechanical system, consisting of one ordinary passive cavity, one active cavity and one common movable membrane oscillator of perfect reflection, driven by two strong control fields and two weak probe fields symmetrically. By means of the gain effect of the active cavity, many novel and valuable phenomena arise, such as frequency-independent perfect reflection (FIPR) first proposed in this paper, adjustable photon bidirectional transmission, phase-dependent non-reciprocity and so on. The relevant parameters used for controlling the all-optical switching are precisely tunable by adjusting the strengths of control fields and the relative phase of probe fields. Furthermore, tunable fast and slow light can be realized in our system by accurately adjusting relevant parameters which is readily and feasible in experiments. These novel phenomena originate from the effective optomechanical coupling and the gain effect provide a promising platform for photonic devices, quantum network node fabrication and quantum information process (QIP).

All-optical transistor based on Rydberg atom-assisted opto-mechanical system

We study the optical response of double optomechanical cavity system assisted by Rydberg atomic ensembles. And atomic ensembles are only coupled with one side cavity by a single cavity mode. It has been realized that a long-range manipulation for optical properties of hybrid system, by controlling the Rydberg atomic ensembles decoupled with the optomechanical cavity. Switching on the coupling between atoms and cavity mode, the original time reversal symmetry of double cavity structure has been broken. Based on the controlled optical non-reciprocity, we put forward the theoretical schemes of all-optical controlled diode, rectifier and transistor.
