Atomic Quantum Sensors for High-Frequency Gravitational Wave Searches

High-frequency gravitational waves (GWs), spanning frequencies from the microwave to the optical band, remain experimentally unexplored despite strong motivation from early-Universe dynamics, high-energy cosmology, and exotic compact objects. We propose a detection framework in which an incident GW excites an eigenmode of a high-$Q$ resonator in the presence of a static magnetic field through GW-induced electromagnetic mode conversion; the resulting cavity field is then read out using atomic sensors placed outside the magnetized volume. We analyze two concrete architectures: microwave detection based on Rydberg transitions and optical/near-infrared Raman schemes. For each, we derive projected strain sensitivities achievable with realistic, though ambitious, magnetic fields, cavity parameters, and atomic ensembles. Under optimistic assumptions on cavity performance, signal coherence, and technical noise, optical Raman implementations could approach benchmark narrowband coherent strain sensitivities relevant for speculative high frequency GW scenarios, while microwave systems may probe benchmark sensitivities in an otherwise unexplored frequency range. These setups motivate advances in high-$Q$ cavities, strong-field magnets, and quantum-limited atomic sensors, with broader implications for quantum instrumentation and fundamental physics.

CFHT MegaCam Two Deep Fields Imaging Survey (2DFIS) I: Overview

We present the Two Deep Fields Imaging Survey (2DFIS), a wide-field imaging program conducted with the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) targeting two astrophysically distinct regions: one containing a repeating fast radio burst (FRB) source and another hosting a candidate of a rotating galaxy cluster. Achieving a depth of r~26mag, the survey enables a search for faint optical counterparts and environmental signatures associated with the FRB, while high-quality photometric and galaxy shape measurements in the cluster field support a weak-lensing analysis of its mass distribution. This paper describes the observing strategy and data processing methodology adopted for 2DFIS, including the use of the LSST Science Pipelines with survey-specific adaptations for CFHT/MegaCam data. We outline a complete workflow for transforming raw CFHT exposures into science-ready data products, including calibrated single-epoch images, multi-band coadded mosaics, and extensive source catalogs. These data products provide the foundation for ongoing and future studies of FRB host environments, cluster mass reconstruction, and related cosmological applications.

A String-Inspired Quintom Model Of Dark Energy

We propose in this paper a quintom model of dark energy with a single scalar field $ϕ$ given by the lagrangian ${\cal L}=-V(ϕ)\sqrt{1-α^\prime\nabla_μϕ\nabla^μϕ+β^\prime ϕ\Boxϕ}$. In the limit of $β^\prime\to$0 our model reduces to the effective low energy lagrangian of tachyon considered in the literature. We study the cosmological evolution of this model, and show explicitly the behaviors of the equation of state crossing the cosmological constant boundary.
