Lattice-QCD Calculations of TMD Soft Function Through Large-Momentum Effective Theory

The transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) soft function is a key ingredient in QCD factorization of Drell-Yan and other processes with relatively small transverse momentum. We present a lattice QCD study of this function at moderately large rapidity on a 2+1 flavor CLS dynamic ensemble with $a=0.098$ fm. We extract the rapidity-independent (or intrinsic) part of the soft function through a large-momentum-transfer pseudo-scalar meson form factor and its quasi-TMD wave function using leading-order factorization in large-momentum effective theory. We also investigate the rapidity-dependent part of the soft function---the Collins-Soper evolution kernel---based on the large-momentum evolution of the quasi-TMD wave function.

UV divergence of the quasi-PDF operator under the lattice regularization

Even since the "quasi" parton distribution function (PDF) was proposed under the large-momentum effective theory (LaMET) framework, its renormalization under the lattice regularization has been a central challenge to be solved due to the linear divergence. Thus, we investigate several possible ways to renormalize the quasi-PDF operators in high accuracy with non-perturbative calculation using the quench configurations at several lattice spacings. We find that the ratio of the UV divergences obtained from the Wilson loop and off-shell quasi-PDF operator is not a constant of the Wilson link length $z$. Although the linear divergence in them may be consistent to each other numerically, there is some additional UV divergence in the quasi-PDF operator.

Design and commissioning of a 600 L Time Projection Chamber with Microbulk Micromegas

We report the design, construction, and initial commissioning results of a large high pressure gaseous Time Projection Chamber (TPC) with Micromegas modules for charge readout. The detector vessel has an inner volume of about 600 L and an active volume of 270 L. At 10 bar operating pressure, the active volume contains about 20 kg of xenon gas and can image charged particle tracks. Drift electrons are collected by the charge readout plane, which accommodates a tessellation of seven Micromegas modules. Each of the Micromegas covers a square of 20 cm by 20 cm. A new type of Microbulk Micromegas is chosen for this application due to its good gain uniformity and low radioactive contamination. Initial commissioning results with 1 Micromegas module running with 1 bar argon and isobutane gas mixture and 5 bar xenon and trimethylamine (TMA) gas mixture are reported. We also recorded extended background tracks from cosmic ray events and highlighted the unique tracking feature of this gaseous TPC.
