In-Cell Learning: Language Models That Update Their Own Weights in Sequence Without Changing the File They Ship

A 4-bit quantized weight specifies a rounding cell rather than a single full-precision value. We introduce in-cell learning, a paradigm for writing new knowledge only within these cells, so that re-quantizing the served weights reproduces the released integer codes and scales exactly. CellFill implements this idea with bounded trainable positions inside frozen quantization cells and ships the update as a separate, subtractively revocable file. Across published NF4 and W4A16 releases of Qwen3 and Gemma from 1.7B to 32B parameters, CellFill writes 83-99% of a real-fact corpus while returning the stored code on every constrained weight. The injected facts generalize to paraphrases and composition, and answer 78-88% of selected PopQA questions that the released model misses. Sequential experiments show that rehearsal preserves earlier knowledge, whereas available room and new-task plasticity decline across updates. Consolidation re-quantizes the learned weights to produce a declared major version, restoring room at a measured capability cost. A six-task write-rehearse-consolidate cycle retains at least 92.8% of first learning in two 8B runs and records zero code violations over 6.9 billion constrained weights at every fold. These results define a version-management protocol in which minor updates preserve the released quantized artifact bitwise and major updates are explicit, measurable, and verifiable.

ARM: Advantage Reward Modeling for Long-Horizon Manipulation

Long-horizon robotic manipulation remains challenging for reinforcement learning (RL) because sparse rewards provide limited guidance for credit assignment. Practical policy improvement thus relies on richer intermediate supervision, such as dense progress rewards, which are costly to obtain and ill-suited to non-monotonic behaviors such as backtracking and recovery. To address this, we propose Advantage Reward Modeling (ARM), a framework that shifts from hard-to-quantify absolute progress to estimating relative advantage. We introduce a cost-effective tri-state labeling strategy -- Progressive, Regressive, and Stagnant -- that reduces human cognitive overhead while ensuring high cross-annotator consistency. By training on these intuitive signals, ARM enables automated progress annotation for both complete demonstrations and fragmented DAgger-style data. Integrating ARM into an offline RL pipeline allows for adaptive action-reward reweighting, effectively filtering suboptimal samples. Our approach achieves a 99.4% success rate on a challenging long-horizon towel-folding task, demonstrating improved stability and data efficiency over current VLA baselines with near-zero human intervention during policy training.

SN 2024abfl: A Low-Luminosity Type IIP Supernova in NGC 2146 from a Low-Mass Red Supergiant Progenitor

Type IIP supernovae (SNe IIP) exhibit a significant diversity in their explosion properties, yet the physical mechanisms driving this diversity remain unknown. In this work, we present photometric and spectroscopic observations of SN 2024abfl, a SN IIP in NGC 2146 with a directly detected red supergiant (RSG) progenitor. We find it has a low plateau luminosity ($M_V \sim -15$ mag) and a relatively long plateau length ($\sim 126.5$ days). By fitting a semi-analytical model, we estimated a $^{56}$Ni mass of $\sim 0.009 M_\odot$, an initial kinetic energy of $\sim 0.42$ foe, an initial thermal energy of $\sim 0.03$ foe and an ejecta mass of $\sim 8.3 M_\odot$. The spectral evolution of SN 2024abfl is similar to those of other SNe IIP, except for much lower ejecta velocities at similar epochs. At later epochs, we find a relatively high-velocity H$\alpha$ absorption feature at $\sim -4000$ km s$^{-1}$, possibly due to a fast-moving plume of matter in the inner ejecta, and two emission features at $\pm 2000$ km s$^{-1}$, possibly caused by CSM interaction. We estimate the progenitor mass to be $\le 15 M_\odot$ based on nebular spectra. We conclude that SN 2024abfl is a low-luminosity SN IIP originating from a low-mass RSG progenitor.

SN 2025coe: A Multiple-Peaked Calcium-Strong Transient from A White-Dwarf Progenitor

SN 2025coe is a calcium-strong transient located at an extremely large projected offset $\sim$39.3 kpc from the center of its host, the nearby early-type galaxy NGC 3277 at a distance of $\sim$25.5 Mpc. In this paper, we present multi-band photometric and spectroscopic observations spanning $\sim$100 days post-discovery. Its multi-band light curves display {multiple} distinct peaks: (1) an initial peak at $t \approx 1.6$ days attributed to shock cooling emission, (2) a secondary peak of $M_{R, \, peak} \approx$ $-$15.8 mag at $t \approx 10.2$ days powered by radioactive decay, and (3) a {possible} late-time bump at $t \approx 42.8$ days likely caused by ejecta-circumstellar material/clump interaction. Spectral evolution of SN 2025coe reveals a fast transition to the nebular phase within 2 months, where it exhibits an exceptionally high [Ca II]/[O I] ratio larger than 6. Modeling of the bolometric light curve suggests an ejecta mass of $M_{\rm ej} = 0.29^{+0.14}_{-0.15} \, M_{\odot}$, a $^{56}$Ni mass of $M_{\rm ^{56}Ni} = 2.4^{+0.06}_{-0.05} \times 10^{-2} M_{\odot}$, and a progenitor envelope with mass $M_e = 1.4^{+6.9}_{-1.2} \times 10^{-3} \, M_{\odot}$ and radius $R_e = 13.5^{+64.1}_{-11.1} \, R_{\odot}$. The tidal disruption of a hybrid HeCO white dwarf (WD) by a low-mass CO WD provides a natural explanation for the low ejecta mass, the small fraction of $^{56}$Ni, and the presence of an extended, low-mass envelope.

SN 2024aecx: a fast-evolving Type IIb supernova with a prominent shock-cooling peak

SN 2024aecx is a nearby ($\sim$11 Mpc) Type IIb SN discovered within $\sim$1 d after explosion. In this paper we report high-cadence photometric (typically 0.5$\sim$1 day) and spectroscopic follow-up observations, conducted from as early as 0.27 d post discovery out to the nebular phase at 158.4 d. We analyze the environment of SN 2024aecx and derive a new distance (11.3$\pm$1.1 Mpc), metallicity and host extinction. The light curve exhibits a hot and luminous shock-cooling peak at the first few days, followed by a main peak with very rapid post-maximum decline. The earliest spectra are blue and featureless, while from 2.3 d after discovery prominent P-Cygni profiles emerge. At nebular phase, the emission lines exhibit asymmetric and double-peaked profiles, indicating asphericity and/or early dust formation in the ejecta. Nebular spectral modelling indicates a blueshifted O-rich clump moving toward observer, and the $[\text{OI}]/[\text{CaII}]$ line ratio suggests an intermediate-mass progenitor. We simulated the progenitor and explosion using a two-component model of shock cooling and radioactive $^{56}$Ni heating; our model favors an extended, low-mass H-rich envelope with $M_{\mathrm{e}} = 0.04\pm{0.01} M_{\odot}$ and a low ejecta mass of$M_{\mathrm{ej}} = 1.55^{+0.18}_{-0.14} M_{\odot}$. And the nebular-phase spectra and light-curve modelling both suggest that it most likely originated from an intermediate-mass binary progenitor system. The comprehensive monitoring of SN 2024aecx, coupled with the detailed characterization of its local environment, establishes it as a benchmark event for probing the progenitors and explosion mechanisms of Type IIb SNe.

StarWhisper Telescope: An AI framework for automating end-to-end astronomical observations

The exponential growth of large-scale telescope arrays has boosted time-domain astronomy development but introduced operational bottlenecks, including labor-intensive observation planning, data processing, and real-time decision-making. Here we present the StarWhisper Telescope system, an AI agent framework automating end-to-end astronomical observations for surveys like the Nearby Galaxy Supernovae Survey. By integrating large language models with specialized function calls and modular workflows, StarWhisper Telescope autonomously generates site-specific observation lists, executes real-time image analysis via pipelines, and dynamically triggers follow-up proposals upon transient detection. The system reduces human intervention through automated observation planning, telescope controlling and data processing, while enabling seamless collaboration between amateur and professional astronomers. Deployed across Nearby Galaxy Supernovae Survey's network of 10 amateur telescopes, the StarWhisper Telescope has detected transients with promising response times relative to existing surveys. Furthermore, StarWhisper Telescope's scalable agent architecture provides a blueprint for future facilities like the Global Open Transient Telescope Array, where AI-driven autonomy will be critical for managing 60 telescopes.

A Shock Flash Breaking Out of a Dusty Red Supergiant

Shock breakout emission is light that arises when a shockwave, generated by core-collapse explosion of a massive star, passes through its outer envelope. Hitherto, the earliest detection of such a signal was at several hours after the explosion, though a few others had been reported. The temporal evolution of early light curves should reveal insights into the shock propagation, including explosion asymmetry and environment in the vicinity, but this has been hampered by the lack of multiwavelength observations. Here we report the instant multiband observations of a type II supernova (SN 2023ixf) in the galaxy M101 (at a distance of 6.85+/-0.15 Mpc), beginning at about 1.4 hours after the explosion. The exploding star was a red supergiant with a radius of about 440 solar radii. The light curves evolved rapidly, on timescales of 1-2 hours, and appeared unusually fainter and redder than predicted by models within the first few hours, which we attribute to an optically thick dust shell before it was disrupted by the shockwave. We infer that the breakout and perhaps the distribution of the surrounding dust were not spherically symmetric.

Once Detected, Never Lost: Surpassing Human Performance in Offline LiDAR based 3D Object Detection

This paper aims for high-performance offline LiDAR-based 3D object detection. We first observe that experienced human annotators annotate objects from a track-centric perspective. They first label the objects with clear shapes in a track, and then leverage the temporal coherence to infer the annotations of obscure objects. Drawing inspiration from this, we propose a high-performance offline detector in a track-centric perspective instead of the conventional object-centric perspective. Our method features a bidirectional tracking module and a track-centric learning module. Such a design allows our detector to infer and refine a complete track once the object is detected at a certain moment. We refer to this characteristic as "onCe detecTed, neveR Lost" and name the proposed system CTRL. Extensive experiments demonstrate the remarkable performance of our method, surpassing the human-level annotating accuracy and the previous state-of-the-art methods in the highly competitive Waymo Open Dataset without model ensemble. The code will be made publicly available at https://github.com/tusen-ai/SST.

Towards a General Pre-training Framework for Adaptive Learning in MOOCs

Adaptive learning aims to stimulate and meet the needs of individual learners, which requires sophisticated system-level coordination of diverse tasks, including modeling learning resources, estimating student states, and making personalized recommendations. Existing deep learning methods have achieved great success over statistical models; however, they still lack generalization for diverse tasks and suffer from insufficient capacity since they are composed of highly-coupled task-specific architectures and rely on small-scale, coarse-grained recommendation scenarios. To realize the idea of general adaptive systems proposed in pedagogical theory, with the emerging pre-training techniques in NLP, we try to conduct a practical exploration on applying pre-training to adaptive learning, to propose a unified framework based on data observation and learning style analysis, properly leveraging heterogeneous learning elements. Through a series of downstream tasks of Learning Recommendation, Learning Resource Evaluation, Knowledge Tracing, and Dropout Prediction, we find that course structures, text, and knowledge are helpful for modeling and inherently coherent to student non-sequential learning behaviors and that indirectly relevant information included in the pre-training foundation can be shared across downstream tasks to facilitate effectiveness. We finally build a simplified systematic application of adaptive learning and reflect on the insights brought back to pedagogy. The source code and dataset will be released.

A new parsimonious method for classifying Cancer Tissue-of-Origin Based on DNA Methylation 450K data

DNA methylation is a well-studied genetic modification that regulates gene transcription of Eukaryotes. Its alternations have been recognized as a significant component of cancer development. In this study, we use the DNA methylation 450k data from The Cancer Genome Atlas to evaluate the efficacy of DNA methylation data on cancer classification for 30 cancer types. We propose a new method for gene selection in high dimensional data(over 450 thousand). Variance filtering is first introduced for dimension reduction and Recursive feature elimination (RFE) is then used for feature selection. We address the problem of selecting a small subsets of genes from large number of methylated sites, and our parsimonious model is demonstrated to be efficient, achieving an accuracy over 91%, outperforming other studies which use DNA micro-arrays and RNA-seq Data . The performance of 20 models, which are based on 4 estimators (Random Forest, Decision Tree, Extra Tree and Support Vector Machine) and 5 classifiers (k-Nearest Neighbours, Support Vector Machine, XGboost, Light GBM and Multi-Layer Perceptron), is compared and robustness of the RFE algorithm is examined. Results suggest that the combined model of extra tree plus catboost classifier offers the best performance in cancer identification, with an overall validation accuracy of 91% , 92.3%, 93.3% and 93.5% for 20, 30, 40 and 50 features respectively. The biological functions in cancer development of 50 selected genes is also explored through enrichment analysis and the results show that 12 out of 16 of our top features have already been identified to be specific with cancer and we also propose some more genes to be tested for future studies. Therefore, our method may be utilzed as an auxiliary diagnostic method to determine the actual clinicopathological status of a specific cancer.

Controllable Person Image Synthesis with Attribute-Decomposed GAN

This paper introduces the Attribute-Decomposed GAN, a novel generative model for controllable person image synthesis, which can produce realistic person images with desired human attributes (e.g., pose, head, upper clothes and pants) provided in various source inputs. The core idea of the proposed model is to embed human attributes into the latent space as independent codes and thus achieve flexible and continuous control of attributes via mixing and interpolation operations in explicit style representations. Specifically, a new architecture consisting of two encoding pathways with style block connections is proposed to decompose the original hard mapping into multiple more accessible subtasks. In source pathway, we further extract component layouts with an off-the-shelf human parser and feed them into a shared global texture encoder for decomposed latent codes. This strategy allows for the synthesis of more realistic output images and automatic separation of un-annotated attributes. Experimental results demonstrate the proposed method's superiority over the state of the art in pose transfer and its effectiveness in the brand-new task of component attribute transfer.
