$D^* D π$ and $B^* B π$ couplings from Dyson-Schwinger equations framework

Employing a unified Dyson-Schwinger/Bethe-Salpeter equations approach, we calculate the strong decay couplings $D^* D π$ and $B^* B π$ within the so-called impulse-approximation in the moving frame. The $B^* B π$ estimation is reported for the first time based on a Poincaré invariant computation of the associated Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes. Our predictions yield $g_{D^* D π}=16.22_{-0.01}^{+0.03}$ and $g_{B^* B π}=40.09_{-1.37}^{+1.51}$, along with corresponding static strong couplings of $\hat{g}_D=0.55_{-<0.01}^{+<0.01}$, $\hat{g}_B=0.50_{-0.02}^{+0.02}$, which are consistent with recent experimental and lattice data.

The electromagnetic form factors of heavy-light pseudo-scalar and vector mesons

We systematically investigate the electromagnetic form factors of heavy-light pseudo-scalar and vector mesons within the Dyson-Schwinger/Bethe-Salpeter equations framework for the first time. It is found that the charge radius of vector meson is larger than that of its pseudo-scalar counterpart. In heavy-light systems, the flavor symmetry breaking will lead to a splitting of the form factor of different quark, and the distribution range of lighter and heavier quark gradually expands and contracts, respectively. The competition between them together generates the electromagnetic form factors of meson. Our results can be compared with other theoretical calculations and future experimental data.

Distribution amplitudes of heavy-light pseudo-scalar and vector mesons from Dyson-Schwinger equations framework

We report the first Dyson-Schwinger equation predictions for the leading-twist distribution amplitudes of the $B^*$, $B_s^*$, and $B_c^*$ mesons, and extend the investigation to a broader set of heavy-light pseudo-scalar/vector mesons. Numerical analysis shows that, in flavor-asymmetric systems, the distribution amplitude is skewed toward the heavier quark, with the position of the maximum $\sim M^f_E/(M^f_E+M^g_E)$, where $M_E$ is the Euclidean constituent quark mass and $f$, $g$ denote the quark flavors. Spin effects are found to be subleading compared to the influence of valence-quark composition, and lead to heavier quarks carrying more light-front momentum in vector mesons than in their pseudo-scalar counterparts. Our results can be compared with both experimental and theoretical outcomes in the future.

Imaging the charge distributions of flavor-symmetric and -asymmetric mesons

We investigate the internal structure of a comprehensive set of pseudoscalar and vector mesons, including both flavor-symmetric and flavor-asymmetric systems, by reconstructing their charge distributions from electromagnetic form factors. To achieve this, we employ a Maximum Entropy Method optimized for charge distributions, utilizing previously published form factor data obtained within the Dyson-Schwingers and Bethe-Salpeter equations framework. Furthermore, we calculate the average distance between the valence quark and antiquark that constitute the meson, interpreting it as an estimate for both the meson's spatial size and the typical range of quark motion. Our results reveal that this distance for the lightest quarkonia is approximately five times larger than that for the heaviest. Moreover, due to spin effects, vector mesons exhibit sizes that are 5-15\% larger than their pseudoscalar counterparts.

Pion, Kaon and nucleon gravitational form factors

A unified set of predictions for pion, kaon and nucleon gravitational form factors is obtained using a symmetry-preserving truncation of each relevant quantum field equation. A crucial aspect of the study is the self-consistent characterization of the dressed quark-graviton vertices, applied when probing each quark flavor inside mesons or nucleons. The calculations reveal that each hadron's mass radius is smaller than its charge radius, matching available empirical inferences; moreover, core pressures are significantly greater than those in neutron stars. This set of predictions is expected to be instrumental as forthcoming experiments provide opportunities for validation.

Pion and kaon electromagnetic and gravitational form factors

A unified set of predictions for pion and kaon elastic electromagnetic and gravitational form factors is obtained using a symmetry-preserving truncation of each relevant quantum field equation. A key part of the study is a description of salient aspects of the dressed graviton + quark vertices. The calculations reveal that each meson's mass radius is smaller than its charge radius, matching available empirical inferences; and meson core pressures are commensurate with those in neutron stars. The analysis described herein paves the way for a direct calculation of nucleon gravitational form factors.

Pion distribution functions from low-order Mellin moments

Exploiting an evolution scheme for parton distribution functions (DFs) that is all-orders exact, contemporary lattice-QCD (lQCD) results for low-order Mellin moments of the pion valence quark DF are shown to be mutually consistent. The analysis introduces a means by which key odd moments can be obtained from the even moments in circumstances where only the latter are available. Combining these elements, one arrives at parameter-free lQCD-based predictions for the pointwise behaviour of pion valence, glue, and sea DFs, with sound uncertainty estimates. The behaviour of the pion DFs at large light-front momentum fraction, $x> 0.85$, is found to be consistent with QCD expectations and continuum analyses of pion structure functions, i.e., damping like $(1 -x)^{β_{\rm parton}}$, with $β_{\rm valence} \approx 2.4$, $β_{\rm glue} \approx 3.6$, $β_{\rm sea} \approx 4.6$. It may be possible to test these predictions using data from forthcoming experiments.

Empirical Determination of the Pion Mass Distribution

Existing pion+nucleus Drell-Yan and electron+pion scattering data are used to develop ensembles of model-independent representations of the pion generalised parton distribution (GPD). Therewith, one arrives at a data-driven prediction for the pion mass distribution form factor, $θ_2$. Compared with the pion elastic electromagnetic form factor, $θ_2$ is harder: the ratio of the radii derived from these two form factors is $r_π^{θ_2}/r_π= 0.79(3)$. Our data-driven predictions for the pion GPD, related form factors and distributions should serve as valuable constraints on theories of pion structure.

Vector-meson production and vector meson dominance

We consider the fidelity of the vector meson dominance (VMD) assumption as an instrument for relating the electromagnetic vector-meson production reaction $e + p \to e^\prime + V + p$ to the purely hadronic process $V + p \to V+p$. Analyses of the photon vacuum polarisation and the photon-quark vertex reveal that such a VMD Ansatz might be reasonable for light vector-mesons. However, when the vector-mesons are described by momentum-dependent bound-state amplitudes, VMD fails for heavy vector-mesons: it cannot be used reliably to estimate either a photon-to-vector-meson transition strength or the momentum dependence of those integrands that would arise in calculations of the different reaction amplitudes. Consequently, for processes involving heavy mesons, the veracity of both cross-section estimates and conclusions based on the VMD assumption should be reviewed, e.g., those relating to hidden-charm pentaquark production and the origin of the proton mass.

Chiral symmetry restoration and properties of Goldstone bosons at finite temperature

We study chiral symmetry restoration by analyzing thermal properties of QCD's (pseudo-)Goldstone bosons, especially the pion. The meson properties are obtained from the spectral densities of mesonic imaginary-time correlation functions. To obtain the correlation functions, we solve the Dyson-Schwinger equations and the inhomogeneous Bethe-Salpeter equations in the leading symmetry-preserving rainbow-ladder approximation. In the chiral limit, the pion and its partner sigma degenerate at the critical temperature $T_c$. At $T \gtrsim T_c$, it is found that the pion rapidly dissociates, which signals deconfinement phase transition. Beyond the chiral limit, the pion dissociation temperature can be used to define the pseudo-critical temperature of chiral phase crossover, which is consistent with that obtained by the maximum point of the chiral susceptibility. The parallel analysis for kaon and pseudoscalar $s\bar{s}$ suggests that heavy mesons may survive above $T_c$.

Chiral crossover transition from the Dyson-Schwinger equations in a sphere

Within the framework of Dyson--Schwinger equations of QCD, we study the effect of finite volume on the chiral phase transition in a sphere with the MIT boundary condition. We find that the chiral quark condensate $\langle\barψ ψ\rangle$ and pseudotransition temperature $T_{pc}$ of the crossover decreases as the volume decreases, until there is no chiral crossover transition at last. We find that the system for $R = \infty $\ fm is indistinguishable from $R=10$ fm and there is a significant decrease in $T_{pc}$ with $R$ as $R<4$ fm. When $R<1.5$ fm, there is no chiral transition in the system.

Elastic electromagnetic form factors of vector mesons

A symmetry-preserving approach to the two valence-body continuum bound-state problem is used to calculate the elastic electromagnetic form factors of the $ρ$-meson and subsequently to study the evolution of vector-meson form factors with current-quark mass. To facilitate a range of additional comparisons, $K^\ast$ form factors are also computed. The analysis reveals that: vector mesons are larger than pseudoscalar mesons; composite vector mesons are non-spherical, with magnetic and quadrupole moments that deviate $\sim 30$\% from point-particle values; in many ways, vector-meson properties are as much influenced by emergent mass as those of pseudoscalars; and vector meson electric form factors possess a zero at spacelike momentum transfer. Qualitative similarities between the electric form factors of the $ρ$ and the proton, $G_E^p$, are used to argue that the character of emergent mass in the Standard Model can force a zero in $G_E^p$. Morover, the existence of a zero in vector meson electric form factors entails that a single-pole vector meson dominance model can only be of limited use in estimating properties of off-shell vector mesons, providing poor guidance for systems in which the Higgs-mechanism of mass generation is dominant.
