More than Encoder: Introducing Transformer Decoder to Upsample

Medical image segmentation methods downsample images for feature extraction and then upsample them to restore resolution for pixel-level predictions. In such a schema, upsample technique is vital in restoring information for better performance. However, existing upsample techniques leverage little information from downsampling paths. The local and detailed feature from the shallower layer such as boundary and tissue texture is particularly more important in medical segmentation compared with natural image segmentation. To this end, we propose a novel upsample approach for medical image segmentation, Window Attention Upsample (WAU), which upsamples features conditioned on local and detailed features from downsampling path in local windows by introducing attention decoders of Transformer. WAU could serve as a general upsample method and be incorporated into any segmentation model that possesses lateral connections. We first propose the Attention Upsample which consists of Attention Decoder (AD) and bilinear upsample. AD leverages pixel-level attention to model long-range dependency and global information for a better upsample. Bilinear upsample is introduced as the residual connection to complement the upsampled features. Moreover, considering the extensive memory and computation cost of pixel-level attention, we further design a window attention scheme to restrict attention computation in local windows instead of the global range. We evaluate our method (WAU) on classic U-Net structure with lateral connections and achieve state-of-the-art performance on Synapse multi-organ segmentation, Medical Segmentation Decathlon (MSD) Brain, and Automatic Cardiac Diagnosis Challenge (ACDC) datasets. We also validate the effectiveness of our method on multiple classic architectures and achieve consistent improvement.

Rate-Splitting Multiple Access for Intelligent Reflecting Surface-Aided Secure Transmission

In this letter, we study a rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA)-based intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-aided multi-user multiple-input single-output (MISO) secure communication system with a potential eavesdropper (Eve). Aiming to maximize the minimum secrecy rate (SR) among all the legitimate users (LUs), a design problem for jointly optimizing the transmit beamforming with artificial noise (AN), the IRS beamforming, and the secrecy common rate allocation is formulated. Since the design problem is highly non-convex with coupled optimization variables, we develop a computationally efficient algorithm based on the alternating optimization (AO) technique to solve it suboptimally. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed design can significantly improve the max-min SR over the benchmark schemes without IRS or adopting other multiple access techniques. In particular, employing the RSMA strategy can substantially reduce the required numbers of IRS elements for achieving a target level of secrecy performance compared with the benchmark schemes.

Try to Avoid Attacks: A Federated Data Sanitization Defense for Healthcare IoMT Systems

Healthcare IoMT systems are becoming intelligent, miniaturized, and more integrated into daily life. As for the distributed devices in the IoMT, federated learning has become a topical area with cloud-based training procedures when meeting data security. However, the distribution of IoMT has the risk of protection from data poisoning attacks. Poisoned data can be fabricated by falsifying medical data, which urges a security defense to IoMT systems. Due to the lack of specific labels, the filtering of malicious data is a unique unsupervised scenario. One of the main challenges is finding robust data filtering methods for various poisoning attacks. This paper introduces a Federated Data Sanitization Defense, a novel approach to protect the system from data poisoning attacks. To solve this unsupervised problem, we first use federated learning to project all the data to the subspace domain, allowing unified feature mapping to be established since the data is stored locally. Then we adopt the federated clustering to re-group their features to clarify the poisoned data. The clustering is based on the consistent association of data and its semantics. After we get the clustering of the private data, we do the data sanitization with a simple yet efficient strategy. In the end, each device of distributed ImOT is enabled to filter malicious data according to federated data sanitization. Extensive experiments are conducted to evaluate the efficacy of the proposed defense method against data poisoning attacks. Further, we consider our approach in the different poisoning ratios and achieve a high Accuracy and a low attack success rate.

Alpha-particle generation from H-11B fusion initiated by laser-accelerated boron ions

Here we report the generation of MeV alpha-particles from H-11B fusion initiated by laser-accelerated boron ions. Boron ions with maximum energy of 6MeV and fluence of 10^9/MeV/sr@5MeV were generated from 60-nm-thick self-supporting boron nanofoils irradiated by 1J femtosecond pulses at an intensity of 10^19W/cm^2. By bombarding secondary hydrogenous targets with the boron ions, 3*10^5/sr alpha-particles from H-11B fusion were registered, which is consistent with the theoretical yield calculated from the measured boron energy spectra. Our results demonstrate an alternative way toward ultrashort MeV alpha-particle sources employing compact femtosecond lasers. The ion acceleration and product measurement scheme are referential for the studies on the ion stopping power and cross-section of the H-11B reaction in solid or plasma.

ASE: Anomaly Scoring Based Ensemble Learning for Imbalanced Datasets

Nowadays, many classification algorithms have been applied to various industries to help them work out their problems met in real-life scenarios. However, in many binary classification tasks, samples in the minority class only make up a small part of all instances, which leads to the datasets we get usually suffer from high imbalance ratio. Existing models sometimes treat minority classes as noise or ignore them as outliers encountering data skewing. In order to solve this problem, we propose a bagging ensemble learning framework $ASE$ (Anomaly Scoring Based Ensemble Learning). This framework has a scoring system based on anomaly detection algorithms which can guide the resampling strategy by divided samples in the majority class into subspaces. Then specific number of instances will be under-sampled from each subspace to construct subsets by combining with the minority class. And we calculate the weights of base classifiers trained by the subsets according to the classification result of the anomaly detection model and the statistics of the subspaces. Experiments have been conducted which show that our ensemble learning model can dramatically improve the performance of base classifiers and is more efficient than other existing methods under a wide range of imbalance ratio, data scale and data dimension. $ASE$ can be combined with various classifiers and every part of our framework has been proved to be reasonable and necessary.

Beamforming Optimization for Active Intelligent Reflecting Surface-Aided SWIPT

In this paper, we study an active IRS-aided simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) system. Specifically, an active IRS is deployed to assist a multi-antenna access point (AP) to convey information and energy simultaneously to multiple single-antenna information users (IUs) and energy users (EUs). Two joint transmit and reflect beamforming optimization problems are investigated with different practical objectives. The first problem maximizes the weighted sum-power harvested by the EUs subject to individual signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) constraints at the IUs, while the second problem maximizes the weighted sum-rate of the IUs subject to individual energy harvesting (EH) constraints at the EUs. The optimization problems are non-convex and difficult to solve optimally. To tackle these two problems, we first rigorously prove that dedicated energy beams are not required for their corresponding semidefinite relaxation (SDR) reformulations and the SDR is tight for the first problem, thus greatly simplifying the AP precoding design. Then, by capitalizing on the techniques of alternating optimization (AO), SDR, and successive convex approximation (SCA), computationally efficient algorithms are developed to obtain suboptimal solutions of the resulting optimization problems. Simulation results demonstrate that, given the same total system power budget, significant performance gains in terms of operating range of wireless power transfer (WPT), total harvested energy, as well as achievable rate can be obtained by our proposed designs over benchmark schemes (especially the one adopting a passive IRS). Moreover, it is advisable to deploy an active IRS in the proximity of the users for the effective operation of WPT/SWIPT.

CDEdit: A Highly Applicable Redactable Blockchain with Controllable Editing Privilege and Diversified Editing Types

Redactable blockchains allow modifiers or voting committees with modification privileges to edit the data on the chain. Trapdoor holders in chameleon-based hash redactable blockchains can quickly compute hash collisions for arbitrary data, and without breaking the link of the hash-chain. However, chameleon-based hash redactable blockchain schemes have difficulty solving the problem of multi-level editing requests and competing for modification privileges. In this paper, we propose CDEdit, a highly applicable redactable blockchain with controllable editing privilege and diversified editing types. The proposed scheme increases the cost of invalid or malicious requests by paying the deposit on each edit request. At the same time, the editing privilege is subdivided into request, modification, and verification privileges, and the modification privilege token is distributed efficiently to prevent the abuse of the modification privilege and collusion attacks. We use chameleon hashes with ephemeral trapdoor (CHET) and ciphertext policy attribute-based encryption (CP-ABE) to implement two editing types of transaction-level and block-level, and present a practical instantiation and security analysis. Finally, the implementation and evaluation show that our scheme only costs low-performance overhead and is suitable for multi-level editing requests and modification privilege competition scenarios.

Tilting flat bands in an empty microcavity

Recently microcavities with anisotropic materials are shown to be able to create novel bands with non-zero local Berry curvature. The anisotropic refractive index of the cavity layer is believed to be critical in opening an energy gap at the tilted Dirac points. In this work, we show that an anticrossing between a cavity mode and a Bragg mode can also form within an empty microcavity without any birefringent materials. Flat bands are observed within the energy gap due to the particular refractive index distribution of the sample. The intrinsic TE-TM splitting and XY splitting induce the squeezing of the cavity modes in momentum space, so that the flat bands are spin-dependently tilted. Our results pave the way to investigate the spin orbit coupling of photons in a simple microcavity without anisotropic cavity layers.

Wallpaper Texture Generation and Style Transfer Based on Multi-label Semantics

Textures contain a wealth of image information and are widely used in various fields such as computer graphics and computer vision. With the development of machine learning, the texture synthesis and generation have been greatly improved. As a very common element in everyday life, wallpapers contain a wealth of texture information, making it difficult to annotate with a simple single label. Moreover, wallpaper designers spend significant time to create different styles of wallpaper. For this purpose, this paper proposes to describe wallpaper texture images by using multi-label semantics. Based on these labels and generative adversarial networks, we present a framework for perception driven wallpaper texture generation and style transfer. In this framework, a perceptual model is trained to recognize whether the wallpapers produced by the generator network are sufficiently realistic and have the attribute designated by given perceptual description; these multi-label semantic attributes are treated as condition variables to generate wallpaper images. The generated wallpaper images can be converted to those with well-known artist styles using CycleGAN. Finally, using the aesthetic evaluation method, the generated wallpaper images are quantitatively measured. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can generate wallpaper textures conforming to human aesthetics and have artistic characteristics.

Entropic force between two horizons of dilaton black holes with a power-Maxwell field

In this paper, we consider $(n+1)$-dimensional topological dilaton de Sitter black holes with power-Maxwell field as thermodynamic systems. The thermodynamic quantities corresponding to the black hole horizon and the cosmological horizon respectively are interrelated. So the total entropy of the space-time should be the sum of the entropies of the black hole horizon and the cosmological horizon plus a corrected term which is produced by the association of the two horizons. We analyze the entropic force produced by the corrected term at given temperatures, which is affected by parameters and dimensions of the space-time. It is shown that the change of entropic force with the position ratio of two horizons in some region is similar to that of Lennard-Jones force with the position of particles. If the effect of entropic force is similar to that of Lennard-Jones force, and other forces are absent, the motion of the cosmological horizon relative to the black hole horizon would have an oscillating process. The entropic force between the two horizons is probably one of the participants to drive the evolution of universe.

A Reputation for Honesty

We analyze situations in which players build reputations for honesty rather than for playing particular actions. A patient player facing a sequence of short-run opponents makes an announcement about their intended action after observing an idiosyncratic shock, and before players act. The patient player is either an honest type whose action coincides with their announcement, or an opportunistic type who can freely choose their actions. We show that the patient player can secure a high payoff by building a reputation for being honest when the short-run players face uncertainty about which of the patient player's actions are currently feasible, but may receive a low payoff when there is no such uncertainty.

Based on the three subgraphs of knowledge graph, prominent teacher, student learning situation and suitable learning route could be visualized. Personalized exercises recommendation model is used to formulate the personalized exercise by algorithm based on the knowledge graph. Collaborative creation model is developed to realize the crowdsourcing construction mechanism. Though unfamiliarity with the learning mode of knowledge graph and learners' less attention to the knowledge structure, system based on Crowdsourcing Knowledge Graph can still get high acceptance around students and teachers

Phase transition and entropic force of de Sitter black hole in massive gravity

It is well known that de Sitter(dS) black holes generally have a black hole horizon and a cosmological horizon, both of which have Hawking radiation. But the radiation temperature of the two horizons is generally different, so dS black holes do not meet the requirements of thermal equilibrium stability, which brings certain difficulties to the study of the thermodynamic characteristics of black holes. In this paper, dS black hole is regarded as a thermodynamic system, and the effective thermodynamic quantities of the system are obtained. The influence of various state parameters on the effective thermodynamic quantities in the massive gravity space-time is discussed. The condition of the phase transition of the de Sitter black hole in massive gravity space-time is given. We consider that the total entropy of the dS black hole is the sum of the corresponding entropy of the two horizons plus an extra term from the correlation of the two horizons. By comparing the entropic force of interaction between black hole horizon and the cosmological horizon with Lennard-Jones force between two particles, we find that the change rule of entropic force between the two system is surprisingly the same. The research will help us to explore the real reason of accelerating expansion of the universe.

The entropic force between two horizons of charged Gauss-Bonnet Black hole in de Sitter Spacetime

The basic equations of the thermodynamic system give the relationship between the internal energy, entropy and volume of two neighboring equilibrium states. By using the functional relationship between the state parameters in the basic equation, we give the differential equation satisfied by the entropy of spacetime. We can obtain the expression of the entropy by solving the differential equationy. This expression is the sum of entropy corresponding to the two event horizons and the interaction term. The interaction term is a function of the ratio of the locations of the black hole horizon and the cosmological horizon. The entropic force, which is strikingly similar to the Lennard-Jones force between particles, varies with the ratio of the two event horizons. The discovery of this phenomenon makes us realize that the entropic force between the two horizons may be one of the candidates to promote the expansion of the universe.

Local galaxies with compact cores as the possible descendants of massive compact quiescent galaxies at high redshift

In order to test a possible evolutionary scenario of high-$z$ compact quiescent galaxies (cQGs) that they can survive as local compact cores embedded in local massive galaxies with different morphology classes, we explore the star formation histories of local compact cores according to their spectral analysis. We build a sample of 182 massive galaxies with compact cores (${M}_{*,{\rm core}} > 10^{10.6} {\rm M}_\odot$) at $0.02 \leq z \leq 0.06$ from SDSS DR7 spectroscopic catalogue. STARLIGHT package is used to analyze the median stacked spectra and derive the stellar ages and metallicities. Our main results show that local compact cores have the average age of about $12.1\pm0.6$ Gyr, indicating their early formation at $z > 3$, which is consistent with the formation redshifts of cQGs at $1 80\%$) will evolve into local massive ETGs according to dry minor merger, while some of them ($\sim 15\%$) will build a substantial stellar/gas discs according to the late-time gas accretion and sustaining star formation, and finally grow up to spiral galaxies.

Exciton interaction induced spin splitting in MoS$_2$ monolayer

By pumping nonresonantly a MoS$_2$ monolayer at $13$ K under a circularly polarized cw laser, we observe exciton energy redshifts that break the degeneracy between B excitons with opposite spin. The energy splitting increases monotonically with the laser power reaching as much as $18$ meV, while it diminishes with the temperature. The phenomenon can be explained theoretically by considering simultaneously the bandgap renormalization which gives rise to the redshift and exciton-exciton Coulomb exchange interaction which is responsible for the spin-dependent splitting. Our results offer a simple scheme to control the valley degree of freedom in MoS$_2$ monolayer and provide an accessible method in investigating many-body exciton exciton interaction in such materials.

I-BEAT: New ultrasonic method for single bunch measurement of ion energy distribution

The shape of a wave carries all information about the spatial and temporal structure of its source, given that the medium and its properties are known. Most modern imaging methods seek to utilize this nature of waves originating from Huygens' principle. We discuss the retrieval of the complete kinetic energy distribution from the acoustic trace that is recorded when a short ion bunch deposits its energy in water. This novel method, which we refer to as Ion-Bunch Energy Acoustic Tracing (I-BEAT), is a generalization of the ionoacoustic approach. Featuring compactness, simple operation, indestructibility and high dynamic ranges in energy and intensity, I-BEAT is a promising approach to meet the needs of petawatt-class laser-based ion accelerators. With its capability of completely monitoring a single, focused proton bunch with prompt readout it, is expected to have particular impact for experiments and applications using ultrashort ion bunches in high flux regimes. We demonstrate its functionality using it with two laser-driven ion sources for quantitative determination of the kinetic energy distribution of single, focused proton bunches.

The spectral energy distribution of the hyperluminous, hot dust-obscured galaxy W2246$-$0526

Hot dust-obscured galaxies (Hot DOGs) are a luminous, dust-obscured population recently discovered in the WISE All-Sky survey. Multiwavelength follow-up observations suggest that they are mainly powered by accreting supermassive black holes (SMBHs), lying in dense environments, and being in the transition phase between extreme starburst and UV-bright quasars. Therefore, they are good candidates for studying the interplay between SMBHs, star formation and environment. W2246$-$0526 (thereafter, W2246), a Hot DOG at $z\sim4.6$, has been taken as the most luminous galaxy known in the Universe. Revealed by the multiwavelength images, the previous Herschel SPIRE photometry of W2246 is contaminated by a foreground galaxy (W2246f), resulting in an overestimation of its total IR luminosity by a factor of about 2. We perform the rest-frame UV/optical-to-far-IR spectral energy distribution (SED) analysis with SED3FIT and re-estimate its physical properties. The derived stellar mass $M_\star = 4.3\times10^{11}~M_\odot$ makes it be among the most massive galaxies with spectroscopic redshift $z>4.5$. Its structure is extremely compact and requires an effective mechanism to puff-up. Most of ($>95\%$) its IR luminosity is from AGN torus emission, revealing the rapid growth of the central SMBH. We also predict that W2246 may have a significant molecular gas reservoir based on the dust mass estimation.
