Assessing the Ship Motion Prediction Capabilities of the Open-Source Model NEMOH Against Field Observations

Accurate ship motion prediction is critical for safe and efficient maritime operations, particularly in open ocean environments. This study evaluates the capability of NEMOH, an open-source potential flow boundary element solver, as an example of a ship motion prediction tool for real-world open ocean conditions. A linear model, known as the Response Amplitude Operator (RAO), is obtained using NEMOH, and is combined with the wave directional spectrum derived from the WaMoS-II marine radar on the research vessel Akademik Tryoshnikov during the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE) to predict ship motion responses in the frequency domain. Predictions of heave, pitch and roll are benchmarked against concurrent ship motion observations recorded by an onboard inertial measurement unit (IMU). The comparisons, based on the zeroth order moment of the ship motion spectrum, demonstrate a reliable heave prediction (Pearson correlation coefficient r=0.89, scatter index SI=0.41), a reasonable pitch prediction (r=0.80, SI=0.47), and an acceptable roll prediction (r=0.63, SI=0.84). More significant discrepancies for pitch and roll are identified under specific extreme sea conditions. The results demonstrate the capability of NEMOH, offering insights into its applicability for real-world maritime operations.

Optimizing Basis Function Selection in Constructive Wavelet Neural Networks and Its Applications

Wavelet neural network (WNN), which learns an unknown nonlinear mapping from the data, has been widely used in signal processing, and time-series analysis. However, challenges in constructing accurate wavelet bases and high computational costs limit their application. This study introduces a constructive WNN that selects initial bases and trains functions by introducing new bases for predefined accuracy while reducing computational costs. For the first time, we analyze the frequency of unknown nonlinear functions and select appropriate initial wavelets based on their primary frequency components by estimating the energy of the spatial frequency component. This leads to a novel constructive framework consisting of a frequency estimator and a wavelet-basis increase mechanism to prioritize high-energy bases, significantly improving computational efficiency. The theoretical foundation defines the necessary time-frequency range for high-dimensional wavelets at a given accuracy. The framework's versatility is demonstrated through four examples: estimating unknown static mappings from offline data, combining two offline datasets, identifying time-varying mappings from time-series data, and capturing nonlinear dependencies in real time-series data. These examples showcase the framework's broad applicability and practicality. All the code will be released at https://github.com/dshuangdd/CWNN.

FAMSeg: Fetal Femur and Cranial Ultrasound Segmentation Using Feature-Aware Attention and Mamba Enhancement

Accurate ultrasound image segmentation is a prerequisite for precise biometrics and accurate assessment. Relying on manual delineation introduces significant errors and is time-consuming. However, existing segmentation models are designed based on objects in natural scenes, making them difficult to adapt to ultrasound objects with high noise and high similarity. This is particularly evident in small object segmentation, where a pronounced jagged effect occurs. Therefore, this paper proposes a fetal femur and cranial ultrasound image segmentation model based on feature perception and Mamba enhancement to address these challenges. Specifically, a longitudinal and transverse independent viewpoint scanning convolution block and a feature perception module were designed to enhance the ability to capture local detail information and improve the fusion of contextual information. Combined with the Mamba-optimized residual structure, this design suppresses the interference of raw noise and enhances local multi-dimensional scanning. The system builds global information and local feature dependencies, and is trained with a combination of different optimizers to achieve the optimal solution. After extensive experimental validation, the FAMSeg network achieved the fastest loss reduction and the best segmentation performance across images of varying sizes and orientations.

MS-UMamba: An Improved Vision Mamba Unet for Fetal Abdominal Medical Image Segmentation

Recently, Mamba-based methods have become popular in medical image segmentation due to their lightweight design and long-range dependency modeling capabilities. However, current segmentation methods frequently encounter challenges in fetal ultrasound images, such as enclosed anatomical structures, blurred boundaries, and small anatomical structures. To address the need for balancing local feature extraction and global context modeling, we propose MS-UMamba, a novel hybrid convolutional-mamba model for fetal ultrasound image segmentation. Specifically, we design a visual state space block integrated with a CNN branch (SS-MCAT-SSM), which leverages Mamba's global modeling strengths and convolutional layers' local representation advantages to enhance feature learning. In addition, we also propose an efficient multi-scale feature fusion module that integrates spatial attention mechanisms, which Integrating feature information from different layers enhances the feature representation ability of the model. Finally, we conduct extensive experiments on a non-public dataset, experimental results demonstrate that MS-UMamba model has excellent performance in segmentation performance.

DCD: A Semantic Segmentation Model for Fetal Ultrasound Four-Chamber View

Accurate segmentation of anatomical structures in the apical four-chamber (A4C) view of fetal echocardiography is essential for early diagnosis and prenatal evaluation of congenital heart disease (CHD). However, precise segmentation remains challenging due to ultrasound artifacts, speckle noise, anatomical variability, and boundary ambiguity across different gestational stages. To reduce the workload of sonographers and enhance segmentation accuracy, we propose DCD, an advanced deep learning-based model for automatic segmentation of key anatomical structures in the fetal A4C view. Our model incorporates a Dense Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (Dense ASPP) module, enabling superior multi-scale feature extraction, and a Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) to enhance adaptive feature representation. By effectively capturing both local and global contextual information, DCD achieves precise and robust segmentation, contributing to improved prenatal cardiac assessment.

GenDMR: A dynamic multimodal role-swapping network for identifying risk gene phenotypes

Recent studies have shown that integrating multimodal data fusion techniques for imaging and genetic features is beneficial for the etiological analysis and predictive diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, there are several critical flaws in current deep learning methods. Firstly, there has been insufficient discussion and exploration regarding the selection and encoding of genetic information. Secondly, due to the significantly superior classification value of AD imaging features compared to genetic features, many studies in multimodal fusion emphasize the strengths of imaging features, actively mitigating the influence of weaker features, thereby diminishing the learning of the unique value of genetic features. To address this issue, this study proposes the dynamic multimodal role-swapping network (GenDMR). In GenDMR, we develop a novel approach to encode the spatial organization of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), enhancing the representation of their genomic context. Additionally, to adaptively quantify the disease risk of SNPs and brain region, we propose a multi-instance attention module to enhance model interpretability. Furthermore, we introduce a dominant modality selection module and a contrastive self-distillation module, combining them to achieve a dynamic teacher-student role exchange mechanism based on dominant and auxiliary modalities for bidirectional co-updating of different modal data. Finally, GenDMR achieves state-of-the-art performance on the ADNI public dataset and visualizes attention to different SNPs, focusing on confirming 12 potential high-risk genes related to AD, including the most classic APOE and recently highlighted significant risk genes. This demonstrates GenDMR's interpretable analytical capability in exploring AD genetic features, providing new insights and perspectives for the development of multimodal data fusion techniques.

Exploring Interference between Concurrent Skin Stretches

Proprioception is essential for coordinating human movements and enhancing the performance of assistive robotic devices. Skin stretch feedback, which closely aligns with natural proprioception mechanisms, presents a promising method for conveying proprioceptive information. To better understand the impact of interference on skin stretch perception, we conducted a user study with 30 participants that evaluated the effect of two simultaneous skin stretches on user perception. We observed that when participants experience simultaneous skin stretch stimuli, a masking effect occurs which deteriorates perception performance in the collocated skin stretch configurations. However, the perceived workload stays the same. These findings show that interference can affect the perception of skin stretch such that multi-channel skin stretch feedback designs should avoid locating modules in close proximity.

Deep Learning-Based Quantitative Assessment of Renal Chronicity Indices in Lupus Nephritis

Background: Renal chronicity indices (CI) have been identified as strong predictors of long-term outcomes in lupus nephritis (LN) patients. However, assessment by pathologists is hindered by challenges such as substantial time requirements, high interobserver variation, and susceptibility to fatigue. This study aims to develop an effective deep learning (DL) pipeline that automates the assessment of CI and provides valuable prognostic insights from a disease-specific perspective. Methods: We curated a dataset comprising 282 slides obtained from 141 patients across two independent cohorts with a complete 10-years follow-up. Our DL pipeline was developed on 60 slides (22,410 patch images) from 30 patients in the training cohort and evaluated on both an internal testing set (148 slides, 77,605 patch images) and an external testing set (74 slides, 27,522 patch images). Results: The study included two cohorts with slight demographic differences, particularly in age and hemoglobin levels. The DL pipeline showed high segmentation performance across tissue compartments and histopathologic lesions, outperforming state-of-the-art methods. The DL pipeline also demonstrated a strong correlation with pathologists in assessing CI, significantly improving interobserver agreement. Additionally, the DL pipeline enhanced prognostic accuracy, particularly in outcome prediction, when combined with clinical parameters and pathologist-assessed CIs Conclusions: The DL pipeline demonstrated accuracy and efficiency in assessing CI in LN, showing promise in improving interobserver agreement among pathologists. It also exhibited significant value in prognostic analysis and enhancing outcome prediction in LN patients, offering a valuable tool for clinical decision-making.

Online 4D Ultrasound-Guided Robotic Tracking Enables 3D Ultrasound Localisation Microscopy with Large Tissue Displacements

Super-Resolution Ultrasound (SRUS) imaging through localising and tracking microbubbles, also known as Ultrasound Localisation Microscopy (ULM), has demonstrated significant potential for reconstructing microvasculature and flows with sub-diffraction resolution in clinical diagnostics. However, imaging organs with large tissue movements, such as those caused by respiration, presents substantial challenges. Existing methods often require breath holding to maintain accumulation accuracy, which limits data acquisition time and ULM image saturation. To improve image quality in the presence of large tissue movements, this study introduces an approach integrating high-frame-rate ultrasound with online precise robotic probe control. Tested on a microvasculature phantom with translation motions up to 20 mm, twice the aperture size of the matrix array used, our method achieved real-time tracking of the moving phantom and imaging volume rate at 85 Hz, keeping majority of the target volume in the imaging field of view. ULM images of the moving cross channels in the phantom were successfully reconstructed in post-processing, demonstrating the feasibility of super-resolution imaging under large tissue motions. This represents a significant step towards ULM imaging of organs with large motion.

Hierarchical Information-Guided Spatio-Temporal Mamba for Stock Time Series Forecasting

Mamba has demonstrated excellent performance in various time series forecasting tasks due to its superior selection mechanism. Nevertheless, conventional Mamba-based models encounter significant challenges in accurately predicting stock time series, as they fail to adequately capture both the overarching market dynamics and the intricate interdependencies among individual stocks. To overcome these constraints, we introduce the Hierarchical Information-Guided Spatio-Temporal Mamba (HIGSTM) framework. HIGSTM introduces Index-Guided Frequency Filtering Decomposition to extract commonality and specificity from time series. The model architecture features a meticulously designed hierarchical framework that systematically captures both temporal dynamic patterns and global static relationships within the stock market. Furthermore, we propose an Information-Guided Mamba that integrates macro informations into the sequence selection process, thereby facilitating more market-conscious decision-making. Comprehensive experimental evaluations conducted on the CSI500, CSI800 and CSI1000 datasets demonstrate that HIGSTM achieves state-of-the-art performance.

Stabilization of singularly perturbed networked control systems over a single channel

This paper studies the emulation-based stabilization of nonlinear networked control systems with two time scales. We address the challenge of using a single communication channel for transmitting both fast and slow variables between the plant and the controller. A novel dual clock mechanism is proposed to schedule transmissions for this purpose. The system is modeled as a hybrid singularly perturbed dynamical system, and singular perturbation analysis is employed to determine individual maximum allowable transmission intervals for both fast and slow variables, ensuring semi-global practical asymptotic stability. Enhanced stability guarantees are also provided under stronger assumptions. The efficacy of the proposed method is illustrated through a numerical example.

A GPU Implementation of Multi-Guiding Spark Fireworks Algorithm for Efficient Black-Box Neural Network Optimization

Swarm intelligence optimization algorithms have gained significant attention due to their ability to solve complex optimization problems. However, the efficiency of optimization in large-scale problems limits the use of related methods. This paper presents a GPU-accelerated version of the Multi-Guiding Spark Fireworks Algorithm (MGFWA), which significantly improves the computational efficiency compared to its traditional CPU-based counterpart. We benchmark the GPU-MGFWA on several neural network black-box optimization problems and demonstrate its superior performance in terms of both speed and solution quality. By leveraging the parallel processing power of modern GPUs, the proposed GPU-MGFWA results in faster convergence and reduced computation time for large-scale optimization tasks. The proposed implementation offers a promising approach to accelerate swarm intelligence algorithms, making them more suitable for real-time applications and large-scale industrial problems. Source code is released at https://github.com/mxxxr/MGFWA.

Multi-Objective Complementary Control

This paper proposes a novel multi-objective control framework for linear time-invariant systems in which performance and robustness can be achieved in a complementary way instead of a trade-off. In particular, a state-space solution is first established for a new stabilizing control structure consisting of two independently designed controllers coordinated with a Youla-type operator ${\bm Q}$. It is then shown by performance analysis that these two independently designed controllers operate in a naturally complementary way for a tracking control system, due to the coordination function of ${\bm Q}$ driven by the residual signal of a Luenberger observer. Moreover, it is pointed out that ${\bm Q}$ could be further optimized with an additional gain factor to achieve improved performance, through a data-driven methodology for a measured cost function.

Sufficient Condition on Bipartite Consensus of Weakly Connected Matrix-weighted Networks

Recent advances in bipartite consensus on matrix-weighted networks, where agents are divided into two disjoint sets with those in the same set agreeing on a certain value and those in different sets converging to opposite values, have highlighted its potential applications across various fields. Traditional approaches often depend on the existence of a positive-negative spanning tree in matrix-weighted networks to achieve bipartite consensus, which greatly restricts the use of these approaches in engineering applications. This study relaxes that assumption by allowing weak connectivity within the network, where paths can be weighted by semidefinite matrices. By analyzing the algebraic constraints imposed by positive-negative trees and semidefinite paths, we derive new sufficient conditions for achieving bipartite consensus. Our findings are validated by numerical simulations.

Sufficient Conditions on Bipartite Consensus of Weakly Connected Matrix-weighted Networks

Recent advancements in bipartite consensus, a scenario where agents are divided into two disjoint sets with agents in the same set agreeing on a certain value and those in different sets agreeing on opposite or specifically related values, have highlighted its potential applications across various fields. Traditional research typically relies on the presence of a positive-negative spanning tree, which limits the practical applicability of bipartite consensus. This study relaxes that assumption by allowing for weak connectivity within the network, where paths can be weighted by semidefinite matrices. By exploring the algebraic constraints imposed by positive-negative trees and semidefinite paths, we derive sufficient conditions for achieving bipartite consensus. Our theoretical findings are validated through numerical results.

Double-Path Adaptive-correlation Spatial-Temporal Inverted Transformer for Stock Time Series Forecasting

Spatial-temporal graph neural networks (STGNNs) have achieved significant success in various time series forecasting tasks. However, due to the lack of explicit and fixed spatial relationships in stock prediction tasks, many STGNNs fail to perform effectively in this domain. While some STGNNs learn spatial relationships from time series, they often lack comprehensiveness. Research indicates that modeling time series using feature changes as tokens reveals entirely different information compared to using time steps as tokens. To more comprehensively extract dynamic spatial information from stock data, we propose a Double-Path Adaptive-correlation Spatial-Temporal Inverted Transformer (DPA-STIFormer). DPA-STIFormer models each node via continuous changes in features as tokens and introduces a Double Direction Self-adaptation Fusion mechanism. This mechanism decomposes node encoding into temporal and feature representations, simultaneously extracting different spatial correlations from a double path approach, and proposes a Double-path gating mechanism to fuse these two types of correlation information. Experiments conducted on four stock market datasets demonstrate state-of-the-art results, validating the model's superior capability in uncovering latent temporal-correlation patterns.

Multi-SIGATnet: A multimodal schizophrenia MRI classification algorithm using sparse interaction mechanisms and graph attention networks

Schizophrenia is a serious psychiatric disorder. Its pathogenesis is not completely clear, making it difficult to treat patients precisely. Because of the complicated non-Euclidean network structure of the human brain, learning critical information from brain networks remains difficult. To effectively capture the topological information of brain neural networks, a novel multimodal graph attention network based on sparse interaction mechanism (Multi-SIGATnet) was proposed for SZ classification was proposed for SZ classification. Firstly, structural and functional information were fused into multimodal data to obtain more comprehensive and abundant features for patients with SZ. Subsequently, a sparse interaction mechanism was proposed to effectively extract salient features and enhance the feature representation capability. By enhancing the strong connections and weakening the weak connections between feature information based on an asymmetric convolutional network, high-order interactive features were captured. Moreover, sparse learning strategies were designed to filter out redundant connections to improve model performance. Finally, local and global features were updated in accordance with the topological features and connection weight constraints of the higher-order brain network, the features being projected to the classification target space for disorder classification. The effectiveness of the model is verified on the Center for Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) and University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) datasets, achieving 81.9\% and 75.8\% average accuracy, respectively, 4.6\% and 5.5\% higher than the graph attention network (GAT) method. Experiments showed that the Multi-SIGATnet method exhibited good performance in identifying SZ.

TCGPN: Temporal-Correlation Graph Pre-trained Network for Stock Forecasting

Recently, the incorporation of both temporal features and the correlation across time series has become an effective approach in time series prediction. Spatio-Temporal Graph Neural Networks (STGNNs) demonstrate good performance on many Temporal-correlation Forecasting Problem. However, when applied to tasks lacking periodicity, such as stock data prediction, the effectiveness and robustness of STGNNs are found to be unsatisfactory. And STGNNs are limited by memory savings so that cannot handle problems with a large number of nodes. In this paper, we propose a novel approach called the Temporal-Correlation Graph Pre-trained Network (TCGPN) to address these limitations. TCGPN utilize Temporal-correlation fusion encoder to get a mixed representation and pre-training method with carefully designed temporal and correlation pre-training tasks. Entire structure is independent of the number and order of nodes, so better results can be obtained through various data enhancements. And memory consumption during training can be significantly reduced through multiple sampling. Experiments are conducted on real stock market data sets CSI300 and CSI500 that exhibit minimal periodicity. We fine-tune a simple MLP in downstream tasks and achieve state-of-the-art results, validating the capability to capture more robust temporal correlation patterns.
