Reductive Contact and Dipolar Interface Engineering Enable Stable Flexible CsSnI3 Nanowire Photodetectors

Lead-free tin-based halide perovskites are attractive for flexible and environmentally benign optoelectronics, but their application is limited by the rapid oxidation of Sn2+ to Sn4+ and poor operational stability. Here, we report a flexible CsSnI3 nanowire photodetector that achieves both high near-infrared photoresponse and long-term stability through synergistic aluminium-substrate contact engineering and dipolar interface modification. A 0.2 mm anodized aluminium foil serves as the flexible substrate, where localized laser ablation exposes metallic aluminium regions that act as reductive sites, effectively suppressing Sn2+ oxidation during nanowire growth. Simultaneously, a polar interlayer of 3-fluoro-2-nitroanisole is introduced to improve energy-level alignment, suppress interfacial deprotonation, and enhance charge extraction. The resulting device exhibits a responsivity of 0.39 A W-1, a specific detectivity of 1.38 * 10^13 Jones, and a wide linear dynamic range of 156 dB under 850 nm illumination. Moreover, the device retains over 85% of its initial photocurrent after 60 days in ambient air and maintains 94% of its initial photocurrent after 1000 bending cycles. This work establishes an effective strategy for stabilizing Sn-based perovskites toward high-performance flexible optoelectronic devices.

dInfer: An Efficient Inference Framework for Diffusion Language Models

Diffusion-based large language models (dLLMs) have emerged as a promising alternative to autoregressive (AR) LLMs, leveraging denoising-based generation to enable inherent parallelism. Even more and more open-sourced dLLM models emerge, yet their widespread adoption remains constrained by the lack of a standardized and efficient inference framework. We present dInfer, an efficient and extensible framework for dLLM inference. dInfer decomposes the inference pipeline into four modular components--model, diffusion iteration manager, decoding strategy, and KV-cache manager--and integrates novel algorithms for each component alongside system-level optimizations. Through this combination of algorithmic innovations and system enhancements, dInfer achieves substantial efficiency gains without compromising output quality on LLaDA-MoE. At batch size 1, it surpasses 1,100 tokens per second on HumanEval and averages over 800 tokens per second across six benchmarks on $8\times$ H800 GPUs. Compared to prior systems, dInfer delivers a $10\times$ speedup over Fast-dLLM while maintaining similar model performance. Even compared to the AR model (with a comparable number of activation parameters and performance) QWen2.5-3B, which is highly optimized with the latest vLLM inference engine, dInfer still delivers a $2$-$3\times$ speedup. The implementation of dInfer is open-sourced at https://github.com/inclusionAI/dInfer.

Real-time CARFAC Cochlea Model Acceleration on FPGA for Underwater Acoustic Sensing Systems

This paper presents a real-time, energy-efficient embedded system implementing an array of Cascade of Asymmetric Resonators with Fast-Acting Compression (CARFAC) cochlea models for underwater sound analysis. Built on the AMD Kria KV260 System-on-Module (SoM), the system integrates a Rust-based software framework on the processor for real-time interfacing and synchronization with multiple hydrophone inputs, and a hardware-accelerated implementation of the CARFAC models on a Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) for real-time sound pre-processing. Compared to prior work, the CARFAC accelerator achieves improved scalability and processing speed while reducing resource usage through optimized time-multiplexing, pipelined design, and elimination of costly division circuits. Experimental results demonstrate 13.5% hardware utilization for a single 64-channel CARFAC instance and a whole board power consumption of 3.11 W when processing a 256 kHz input signal in real time.

Multi-Agent-as-Judge: Aligning LLM-Agent-Based Automated Evaluation with Multi-Dimensional Human Evaluation

Nearly all human work is collaborative; thus, the evaluation of real-world NLP applications often requires multiple dimensions that align with diverse human perspectives. As real human evaluator resources are often scarce and costly, the emerging "LLM-as-a-judge" paradigm sheds light on a promising approach to leverage LLM agents to believably simulate human evaluators. Yet, to date, existing LLM-as-a-judge approaches face two limitations: persona descriptions of agents are often arbitrarily designed, and the frameworks are not generalizable to other tasks. To address these challenges, we propose MAJ-EVAL, a Multi-Agent-as-Judge evaluation framework that can automatically construct multiple evaluator personas with distinct dimensions from relevant text documents (e.g., research papers), instantiate LLM agents with the personas, and engage in-group debates with multi-agents to Generate multi-dimensional feedback. Our evaluation experiments in both the educational and medical domains demonstrate that MAJ-EVAL can generate evaluation results that better align with human experts' ratings compared with conventional automated evaluation metrics and existing LLM-as-a-judge methods.

A Hierarchical Probabilistic Framework for Incremental Knowledge Tracing in Classroom Settings

Knowledge tracing (KT) aims to estimate a student's evolving knowledge state and predict their performance on new exercises based on performance history. Many realistic classroom settings for KT are typically low-resource in data and require online updates as students' exercise history grows, which creates significant challenges for existing KT approaches. To restore strong performance under low-resource conditions, we revisit the hierarchical knowledge concept (KC) information, which is typically available in many classroom settings and can provide strong prior when data are sparse. We therefore propose Knowledge-Tree-based Knowledge Tracing (KT$^2$), a probabilistic KT framework that models student understanding over a tree-structured hierarchy of knowledge concepts using a Hidden Markov Tree Model. KT$^2$ estimates student mastery via an EM algorithm and supports personalized prediction through an incremental update mechanism as new responses arrive. Our experiments show that KT$^2$ consistently outperforms strong baselines in realistic online, low-resource settings.

The (3+1)-dimensional dispersionless integrable hierarchy and nonlinear Riemann-Hilbert problem associated with the Doubrov-Ferapontov modified heavenly equation

According to the classification of integrable complex Monge-Ampere equations by Doubrov and Ferapontov, the modified heavenly equation is a typical (3+1)-dimensional dispersionless and canonical integrable equation. In this paper we use the eigenfunctions of the Doubrov-Ferapontov modified heavenly equation to obtain a related hierarchy. Next we construct the Lax-Sato equations with Hamiltonian vector fields and Zakharov-Shabat type equations which are equivalent to the hierarchy. The nonlinear Riemann-Hilbert problem is also applied to study the solution of Doubrov-Ferapontov modified heavenly equation.

On one typical Einstein-Weyl equation: inverse spectral transform for theCauchy problem, longtime behaviour of the solutions and implicit solutions

In this paper, we study one typical Einstein-Weyl equation. It arises from Ferapontov and Kruglikov's investigation on the integrability of several dispersionless partial differential equations and the geometry of their formal linearizations. First, by using Manakov-Santini IST (inverse spectral transform) method, we investigate its Cauchy problem including the direct problem from the initial data, the time evolution of the scattering and spectral data, and the inverse problem. Second, based on the nonlinear RH (Riemann-Hilbert) dressing, the longtime behaviour of the solutions is constructed. In addition, some implicit solutions are presented.

Characterizing LLM-Empowered Personalized Story-Reading and Interaction for Children: Insights from Multi-Stakeholder Perspectives

Personalized interaction is highly valued by parents in their story-reading activities with children. While AI-empowered story-reading tools have been increasingly used, their abilities to support personalized interaction with children are still limited. Recent advances in large language models (LLMs) show promise in facilitating personalized interactions, but little is known about how to effectively and appropriately use LLMs to enhance children's personalized story-reading experiences. This work explores this question through a design-based study. Drawing on a formative study, we designed and developed StoryMate, an LLM-empowered personalized interactive story-reading tool for children, following an empirical study with children, parents, and education experts. Our participants valued the personalized features in StoryMate, and also highlighted the need to support personalized content, guiding mechanisms, reading context variations, and interactive interfaces. Based on these findings, we propose a series of design recommendations for better using LLMs to empower children's personalized story reading and interaction.

VoD: Learning Volume of Differences for Video-Based Deepfake Detection

The rapid development of deep learning and generative AI technologies has profoundly transformed the digital contact landscape, creating realistic Deepfake that poses substantial challenges to public trust and digital media integrity. This paper introduces a novel Deepfake detention framework, Volume of Differences (VoD), designed to enhance detection accuracy by exploiting temporal and spatial inconsistencies between consecutive video frames. VoD employs a progressive learning approach that captures differences across multiple axes through the use of consecutive frame differences (CFD) and a network with stepwise expansions. We evaluate our approach with intra-dataset and cross-dataset testing scenarios on various well-known Deepfake datasets. Our findings demonstrate that VoD excels with the data it has been trained on and shows strong adaptability to novel, unseen data. Additionally, comprehensive ablation studies examine various configurations of segment length, sampling steps, and intervals, offering valuable insights for optimizing the framework. The code for our VoD framework is available at https://github.com/xuyingzhongguo/VoD.

Adaptive Multi-Objective Bayesian Optimization for Capacity Planning of Hybrid Heat Sources in Electric-Heat Coupling Systems of Cold Regions

The traditional heat-load generation pattern of combined heat and power generators has become a problem leading to renewable energy source (RES) power curtailment in cold regions, motivating the proposal of a planning model for alternative heat sources. The model aims to identify non-dominant capacity allocation schemes for heat pumps, thermal energy storage, electric boilers, and combined storage heaters to construct a Pareto front, considering both economic and sustainable objectives. The integration of various heat sources from both generation and consumption sides enhances flexibility in utilization. The study introduces a novel optimization algorithm, the adaptive multi-objective Bayesian optimization (AMBO). Compared to other widely used multi-objective optimization algorithms, AMBO eliminates predefined parameters that may introduce subjectivity from planners. Beyond the algorithm, the proposed model incorporates a noise term to account for inevitable simulation deviations, enabling the identification of better-performing planning results that meet the unique requirements of cold regions. What's more, the characteristics of electric-thermal coupling scenarios are captured and reflected in the operation simulation model to make sure the simulation is close to reality. Numerical simulation verifies the superiority of the proposed approach in generating a more diverse and evenly distributed Pareto front in a sample-efficient manner, providing comprehensive and objective planning choices.

Surveying Attitudinal Alignment Between Large Language Models Vs. Humans Towards 17 Sustainable Development Goals

Large Language Models (LLMs) have emerged as potent tools for advancing the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, the attitudinal disparities between LLMs and humans towards these goals can pose significant challenges. This study conducts a comprehensive review and analysis of the existing literature on the attitudes of LLMs towards the 17 SDGs, emphasizing the comparison between their attitudes and support for each goal and those of humans. We examine the potential disparities, primarily focusing on aspects such as understanding and emotions, cultural and regional differences, task objective variations, and factors considered in the decision-making process. These disparities arise from the underrepresentation and imbalance in LLM training data, historical biases, quality issues, lack of contextual understanding, and skewed ethical values reflected. The study also investigates the risks and harms that may arise from neglecting the attitudes of LLMs towards the SDGs, including the exacerbation of social inequalities, racial discrimination, environmental destruction, and resource wastage. To address these challenges, we propose strategies and recommendations to guide and regulate the application of LLMs, ensuring their alignment with the principles and goals of the SDGs, and therefore creating a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future.

Noise-Aware Bayesian Optimization Approach for Capacity Planning of the Distributed Energy Resources in an Active Distribution Network

The growing penetration of renewable energy sources (RESs) in active distribution networks (ADNs) leads to complex and uncertain operation scenarios, resulting in significant deviations and risks for the ADN operation. In this study, a collaborative capacity planning of the distributed energy resources in an ADN is proposed to enhance the RES accommodation capability. The variability of RESs, characteristics of adjustable demand response resources, ADN bi-directional power flow, and security operation limitations are considered in the proposed model. To address the noise term caused by the inevitable deviation between the operation simulation and real-world environments, an improved noise-aware Bayesian optimization algorithm with the probabilistic surrogate model is proposed to overcome the interference from the environmental noise and sample-efficiently optimize the capacity planning model under noisy circumstances. Numerical simulation results verify the superiority of the proposed approach in coping with environmental noise and achieving lower annual cost and higher computation efficiency.

Synthesis of metalloborophene nanoribbons on Cu(110)

Metalloborophene, characterized by the presence of metal-centered boron wheels denoted as M\c{opyright}Bn, has garnered considerable attention in recent years due to its versatile properties and potential applications in fields such as electronics, spintronics, and catalysis. However, the experimental verification of metalloborophene has been challenging, mainly due to the unconventional two-dimensional (2D) boron networks. In this study, we employ scanning tunneling microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, low energy electron diffraction, and first-principles calculations to unveil Cu\c{opyright}B8 metalloborophene nanoribbons formed via spontaneous alloying after the deposition of boron on a heated Cu(110) substrate under ultrahigh vacuum condition. The thermodynamically preferred precursor, the anchoring of boron network to metal atoms, and anisotropic lattice mismatch are identified as pivotal factors in the formation of these metalloborophene nanoribbons. This discovery expands the repertoire of 2D materials and offers a potential pathway for the synthesis of other metalloborophenes.

ODBAE: a high-performance model identifying complex phenotypes in high-dimensional biological datasets

Identifying complex phenotypes from high-dimensional biological data is challenging due to the intricate interdependencies among different physiological indicators. Traditional approaches often focus on detecting outliers in single variables, overlooking the broader network of interactions that contribute to phenotype emergence. Here, we introduce ODBAE (Outlier Detection using Balanced Autoencoders), a machine learning method designed to uncover both subtle and extreme outliers by capturing latent relationships among multiple physiological parameters. ODBAE's revised loss function enhances its ability to detect two key types of outliers: influential points (IP), which disrupt latent correlations between dimensions, and high leverage points (HLP), which deviate from the norm but go undetected by traditional autoencoder-based methods. Using data from the International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium (IMPC), we show that ODBAE can identify knockout mice with complex, multi-indicator phenotypes - normal in individual traits, but abnormal when considered together. In addition, this method reveals novel metabolism-related genes and uncovers coordinated abnormalities across metabolic indicators. Our results highlight the utility of ODBAE in detecting joint abnormalities and advancing our understanding of homeostatic perturbations in biological systems.

Coordinated Dispatch of Energy Storage Systems in the Active Distribution Network: A Complementary Reinforcement Learning and Optimization Approach

The complexity and nonlinearity of active distribution network (ADN), coupled with the fast-changing renewable energy (RE), necessitate advanced real-time and safe dispatch approach. This paper proposes a complementary reinforcement learning (RL) and optimization approach, namely SA2CO, to address the coordinated dispatch of the energy storage systems (ESSs) in the ADN. The proposed approach leverages RL's capability to make fast decision and address the model inaccuracies, while optimization methods ensure the ADN security. Furthermore, a hybrid data-driven and expert-experience auxiliary neural network is formulated as a rapid security assessment component in the SA2CO algorithm, enabling dynamic switching between RL and optimization methodologies. Simulation results demonstrate the proposed method's effectiveness and scalability in achieving real-time, safe, and economical dispatch of multiple ESSs in the ADN, surpassing the performance of the state-of-the-art RL and optimization methods.

StorySparkQA: Expert-Annotated QA Pairs with Real-World Knowledge for Children's Story-Based Learning

Interactive story reading is a common parent-child activity, where parents expect to teach both language skills and real-world knowledge beyond the story. While increasing storytelling and reading systems have been developed for this activity, they often fail to infuse real-world knowledge into the conversation. This limitation can be attributed to the existing question-answering (QA) datasets used for children's education, upon which the systems are built, failing to capture the nuances of how education experts think when conducting interactive story reading activities. To bridge this gap, we design an annotation framework, empowered by existing knowledge graph to capture experts' annotations and thinking process, and leverage this framework to construct StorySparkQA dataset, which comprises 5,868 expert-annotated QA pairs with real-world knowledge. We conduct automated and human expert evaluations across various QA pair generation settings to demonstrate that our StorySparkQA can effectively support models in generating QA pairs that target real-world knowledge beyond story content. StorySparkQA is available at https://huggingface.co/datasets/NEU-HAI/StorySparkQA.

Exploring Parent's Needs for Children-Centered AI to Support Preschoolers' Interactive Storytelling and Reading Activities

Interactive storytelling is vital for preschooler development. While children's interactive partners have traditionally been their parents and teachers, recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) have sparked a surge of AI-based storytelling and reading technologies. As these technologies become increasingly ubiquitous in preschoolers' lives, questions arise regarding how they function in practical storytelling and reading scenarios and, how parents, the most critical stakeholders, experience and perceive these technologies. This paper investigates these questions through a qualitative study with 17 parents of children aged 3-6. Our findings suggest that even though AI-based storytelling and reading technologies provide more immersive and engaging interaction, they still cannot meet parents' expectations due to a series of interactive and algorithmic challenges. We elaborate on these challenges and discuss the possible implications of future AI-based interactive storytelling technologies for preschoolers.

The integrable hierarchy and the nonlinear Riemann-Hilbert problem associated with one typical Einstein-Weyl physico-geometric dispersionless system

From a specific series of exchange conditions for a one-parameter Hamiltonian vector field, we establish an integrable hierarchy using Lax pairs derived from the dispersionless partial differential equation. An exterior differential form of the integrable hierarchy is introduced, further confirming the existence of the tau function. Subsequently, we present the twistor structure of the hierarchy. By constructing the nonlinear Riemann Hilbert problem for the equation, the structure of the solution to the equation is better understood.
