Entanglement Model for Mode-Pairing Quantum Key Distribution

Mode-pairing (MP) quantum key distribution (QKD) eliminates the requirements of phase locking and phase tracking compared with twin-field (TF) QKD while still surpassing the fundamental rate-distance limit of QKD. The complexity of the experimental implementation is reduced while the efficiency can still be guaranteed. In MP-QKD, two communication parties need to pair two effective rounds according to the announced results by the third party. Therefore, it is not intuitive how to provide an entanglement protocol equivalent to the prepare-and-measure protocol for proving security. At present, the security of MP-QKD is rigorously proven by examining the consistency of the states detailly between MP-QKD and the fixed-pairing scheme under all of Eve's possible interference to obtain the equivalence, and verifying the security of the latter. Here, we directly present an entanglement model for MP-QKD by proposing a free-pairing entanglement scheme that is equivalent to MP-QKD. This entanglement model simplifies the security proof and provides a clearer insight into the foundation of MP-QKD. Besides, it could provide a theoretical framework for the comprehensive analysis of MP-QKD, such as facilitating practical security analysis. Additionally, we propose an optimized pairing strategy based on the entanglement model. The simulation results show an enhancement of 163\% in pairing efficiency with a reasonable pairing interval $2 \times 10^5$.

Quantum Phases of a Dipolar Fermi Gas with Laser-assisted Interwire Tunneling

We systematically investigate unconventional superfluid phases of fermionic dipolar particles lying in a double-wire setup with laser-assisted interwire tunneling. Our numerical simulations, based on the nonlocal Kohn-Sham Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation, reveal the existence of a large Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) region with a stripe phase under an imbalance of particle densities between two wires. When the laser-assisted interwire tunneling is present, it induces a transition from the FFLO phase to the topological superfluid phase and the associated Majorana zero modes exhibit an oscillation structure, which is significantly enhanced by the long-range nature of the interwire dipolar interaction. This distinguishes itself from the results obtained with usual contact interaction and offers new opportunities for manipulating and reshaping Majorana zero modes by adjusting the degree of the nonlocality and the interwire separation.

Itinerant ferromagnetism entrenched by the anisotropy of spin-orbit coupling in a dipolar Fermi gas

We investigate the the itinerant ferromagnetism in a dipolar Fermi atomic system with the anisotropic spin-orbit coupling (SOC),which is traditionally explored with isotropic contact interaction. We first study the ferromagnetism transition boundaries and the properties of the ground states through the density and spin-flip distribution in momentum space, and we find that both the anisotropy and the magnitude of the SOC play an important role in this process. We propose a helpful scheme and a quantum control method which can be applied to conquering the difficulties of previous experimental observation of itinerant ferromagnetism. Our further study reveals that exotic Fermi surfaces and an abnormal phase region can exist in this system by controlling the anisotropy of SOC, which can provide constructive suggestions for the research and the application of a dipolar Fermi gas. Furthermore, we also calculate the ferromagnetism transition temperature and novel distributions in momentum space at finite temperature beyond the ground states from the perspective of experiment.

Practical decoy-state round-robin differential-phaseshift quantum key distribution

To overcome the signal disturbance from the transmission process, recently, a new type of protocol named round-robin differential-phase-shift(RRDPS) quantum key distribution[Nature 509, 475(2014)] is proposed. It can estimate how much information has leaked to eavesdropper without monitoring bit error rates. In this paper, we compare the performance of RRDPS using different sources without and with decoy-state method, such as weak coherent pulses(WCPs) and heralded single photon source(HSPS). For practical implementations, we propose finite decoy-state method for RRDPS, the performance of which is close to the infinite one. Taking WCPs as an example, the three-intensity decoystate protocol can distribute secret keys over a distance of 128 km when the length of pulses packet is 32, which confirms the great practical interest of our method.
