Shimura Lifts of Weakly Holomorphic Modular Forms

We show how to realize the Shimura lift of arbitrary level and character using the vector-valued theta lifts of Borcherds. Using the regularization of Borcherds' lift we extend the Shimura lift to take weakly holomorphic modular forms of half-integral weight to meromorphic modular forms of even integral weight having poles at CM points.

On a Conjecture of Yui and Zagier

In this paper, we prove the conjecture of Yui and Zagier concerning the factorization of the resultants of minimal polynomials of Weber class invariants. The novelty of our approach is to systematically express differences of certain Weber functions as products of Borcherds products.

A magnetic modular form

In this paper, we prove a conjecture of Broadhurst and Zudilin \cite{BZ17} concerning a divisibility property of the Fourier coefficients of a meromorphic modular form using the generalization of the Shimura lift by Borcherds \cite{Borcherds98} and Hecke operators on vector-valued modular forms developed by Bruinier and Stein \cite{BS10}. Furthermore, we construct a family of meromorphic modular forms with this property.

An explicit construction of non-tempered cusp forms on $O(1,8n+1)$

We explicitly construct cusp forms on the orthogonal group of signature $(1,8n+1)$ for an arbitrary natural number $n$ as liftings from Maass cusp forms of level one. In our previous works, the fundamental tool to show the automorphy of the lifting was the converse theorem by Maass. In this paper, we use the Fourier expansion of the theta lifts by Borcherds instead. We also study cuspidal representations generated by such cusp forms and show that they are irreducible and that all of their non-archimedean local components are non-tempered while the archimedean component is tempered, if the Maass cusp forms are Hecke eigenforms. The standard $L$-functions of the cusp forms are proved to be products of symmetric square $L$-functions of the Hecke-eigen Maass cusp forms with shifted Riemann zeta functions.

Harmonic Maass forms associated to real quadratic fields

In this paper, we explicitly construct harmonic Maass forms that map to the weight one theta series associated by Hecke to odd ray class group characters of real quadratic fields. From this construction, we give precise arithmetic information contained in the Fourier coefficients of the holomorphic part of the harmonic Maass form, establishing the main part of a conjecture of the second author.

Modularity of generating series of winding numbers

The Shimura correspondence connects modular forms of integral weights and half-integral weights. One of the directions is realized by the Shintani lift, where the inputs are holomorphic differentials and the outputs are holomorphic modular forms of half-integral weight. In this article, we generalize this lift to differentials of the third kind. As an application we obtain a modularity result concerning the generating series of winding numbers of closed geodesics on the modular curve.

Heegner divisors in generalized Jacobians and traces of singular moduli

We prove an abstract modularity result for classes of Heegner divisors in the generalized Jacobian of a modular curve associated to a cuspidal modulus. Extending the Gross-Kohnen-Zagier theorem, we prove that the generating series of these classes is a weakly holomorphic modular form of weight 3/2. Moreover, we show that any harmonic Maass forms of weight 0 defines a functional on the generalized Jacobian. Combining these results, we obtain a unifying framework and new proofs for the Gross-Kohnen-Zagier theorem and Zagier's modularity of traces of singular moduli, together with new geometric interpretations of the traces with non-positive index.

Harmonic Eisenstein Series of Weight One

In this short note, we will construct a harmonic Eisenstein series of weight one, whose image under the $ξ$-operator is a weight one Eisenstein series studied by Hecke.

Renormalization and quantum modular forms, part I: Maass wave forms

Sander Zwegers showed that Ramanujan's mock theta functions are $q$-hypergeometric series, whose $q$-expansion coefficients are half of the Fourier coefficients of a non-holomorphic modular form. George Andrews, Henri Cohen, Freeman Dyson, and Dean Hickerson found a pair of $q$-hypergeometric series each of which contains half of the Fourier coefficients of Maass waveform of eigenvalue $1/4$. This series of papers shows that a $q$-series construction, called ``renormalization'', yields the other half of the Fourier coefficients from a series which contains half of them. This construction unifies examples associated with mock theta functions and examples associated with Maass waveforms. Thus confirming a conviction of Freeman Dyson. This construction is natural in the context of Don Zagier's quantum modular forms. Detailed discussion of the role quantum modular forms play in this construction is given. New examples associated to Maass waveforms are given in Part I. Part II contains new examples associated with mock theta functions, and classical modular forms. Part II contains an extensive survey of the ``renormalization'' construction. A large number of examples and open questions which share similarities to the main examples, but remain mysterious, are given.
