VeriReason: Reinforcement Learning with Testbench Feedback for Reasoning-Enhanced Verilog Generation

Automating Register Transfer Level (RTL) code generation using Large Language Models (LLMs) offers substantial promise for streamlining digital circuit design and reducing human effort. However, current LLM-based approaches face significant challenges with training data scarcity, poor specification-code alignment, lack of verification mechanisms, and balancing generalization with specialization. Inspired by DeepSeek-R1, we introduce VeriReason, a framework integrating supervised fine-tuning with Guided Reward Proximal Optimization (GRPO) reinforcement learning for RTL generation. Using curated training examples and a feedback-driven reward model, VeriReason combines testbench evaluations with structural heuristics while embedding self-checking capabilities for autonomous error correction. On the VerilogEval Benchmark, VeriReason delivers significant improvements: achieving 83.1% functional correctness on the VerilogEval Machine benchmark, substantially outperforming both comparable-sized models and much larger commercial systems like GPT-4 Turbo. Additionally, our approach demonstrates up to a 2.8X increase in first-attempt functional correctness compared to baseline methods and exhibits robust generalization to unseen designs. To our knowledge, VeriReason represents the first system to successfully integrate explicit reasoning capabilities with reinforcement learning for Verilog generation, establishing a new state-of-the-art for automated RTL synthesis. Probabilistic Task Parameterization of Tool-Tissue Interaction via Sparse Landmarks Tracking in Robotic Surgery

Accurate modeling of tool-tissue interactions in robotic surgery requires precise tracking of deformable tissues and integration of surgical domain knowledge. Traditional methods rely on labor-intensive annotations or rigid assumptions, limiting flexibility. We propose a framework combining sparse keypoint tracking and probabilistic modeling that propagates expert-annotated landmarks across endoscopic frames, even with large tissue deformations. Clustered tissue keypoints enable dynamic local transformation construction via PCA, and tool poses, tracked similarly, are expressed relative to these frames. Embedding these into a Task-Parameterized Gaussian Mixture Model (TP-GMM) integrates data-driven observations with labeled clinical expertise, effectively predicting relative tool-tissue poses and enhancing visual understanding of robotic surgical motions directly from video data.

Flooding Spread of Manipulated Knowledge in LLM-Based Multi-Agent Communities

The rapid adoption of large language models (LLMs) in multi-agent systems has highlighted their impressive capabilities in various applications, such as collaborative problem-solving and autonomous negotiation. However, the security implications of these LLM-based multi-agent systems have not been thoroughly investigated, particularly concerning the spread of manipulated knowledge. In this paper, we investigate this critical issue by constructing a detailed threat model and a comprehensive simulation environment that mirrors real-world multi-agent deployments in a trusted platform. Subsequently, we propose a novel two-stage attack method involving Persuasiveness Injection and Manipulated Knowledge Injection to systematically explore the potential for manipulated knowledge (i.e., counterfactual and toxic knowledge) spread without explicit prompt manipulation. Our method leverages the inherent vulnerabilities of LLMs in handling world knowledge, which can be exploited by attackers to unconsciously spread fabricated information. Through extensive experiments, we demonstrate that our attack method can successfully induce LLM-based agents to spread both counterfactual and toxic knowledge without degrading their foundational capabilities during agent communication. Furthermore, we show that these manipulations can persist through popular retrieval-augmented generation frameworks, where several benign agents store and retrieve manipulated chat histories for future interactions. This persistence indicates that even after the interaction has ended, the benign agents may continue to be influenced by manipulated knowledge. Our findings reveal significant security risks in LLM-based multi-agent systems, emphasizing the imperative need for robust defenses against manipulated knowledge spread, such as introducing ``guardian'' agents and advanced fact-checking tools.

On-chip multi-degree-of-freedom control of two-dimensional quantum and nonlinear materials

Two-dimensional materials (2DM) and their derived heterostructures have electrical and optical properties that are widely tunable via several approaches, most notably electrostatic gating and interfacial engineering such as twisting. While electrostatic gating is simple and has been ubiquitously employed on 2DM, being able to tailor the interfacial properties in a similar real-time manner represents the next leap in our ability to modulate the underlying physics and build exotic devices with 2DM. However, all existing approaches rely on external machinery such as scanning microscopes, which often limit their scope of applications, and there is currently no means of tuning a 2D interface that has the same accessibility and scalability as electrostatic gating. Here, we demonstrate the first on-chip platform designed for 2D materials with in situ tunable interfacial properties, utilizing a microelectromechanical system (MEMS). Each compact, cost-effective, and versatile device is a standalone micromachine that allows voltage-controlled approaching, twisting, and pressurizing of 2DM with high accuracy. As a demonstration, we engineer synthetic topological singularities, known as merons, in the nonlinear optical susceptibility of twisted hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), via simultaneous control of twist angle and interlayer separation. The chirality of the resulting moire pattern further induces a strong circular dichroism in the second-harmonic generation. A potential application of this topological nonlinear susceptibility is to create integrated classical and quantum light sources that have widely and real-time tunable polarization. Our invention pushes the boundary of available technologies for manipulating low-dimensional quantum materials, which in turn opens up the gateway for designing future hybrid 2D-3D devices for condensed-matter physics, quantum optics, and beyond.

Exploring Generative AI for Sim2Real in Driving Data Synthesis

Datasets are essential for training and testing vehicle perception algorithms. However, the collection and annotation of real-world images is time-consuming and expensive. Driving simulators offer a solution by automatically generating various driving scenarios with corresponding annotations, but the simulation-to-reality (Sim2Real) domain gap remains a challenge. While most of the Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) follows the de facto Generative Adversarial Nets (GANs)-based methods, the recent emerging diffusion probabilistic models have not been fully explored in mitigating Sim2Real challenges for driving data synthesis. To explore the performance, this paper applied three different generative AI methods to leverage semantic label maps from a driving simulator as a bridge for the creation of realistic datasets. A comparative analysis of these methods is presented from the perspective of image quality and perception. New synthetic datasets, which include driving images and auto-generated high-quality annotations, are produced with low costs and high scene variability. The experimental results show that although GAN-based methods are adept at generating high-quality images when provided with manually annotated labels, ControlNet produces synthetic datasets with fewer artefacts and more structural fidelity when using simulator-generated labels. This suggests that the diffusion-based approach may provide improved stability and an alternative method for addressing Sim2Real challenges.

On uniform and nonhomogeneous vector bundles over Grassmannians

We demonstrate the existence of a uniform and nonhomogeneous vector bundle $E$ of rank $(n-d)(m+1)-1$ over Grassmannian $\mathbb{G}(d,n)$, where $m>d$ and $1\le d \le n-d-1$ with a $\mathbb{P}$-homogeneity degree $h(E)=d$. Particularly, we establish an upper bound of $3(n-d)-2$ for the uniform-homogeneous shreshold of $\mathbb{G}(d,n)$. Additionally, we construct indecomposable uniform vector bundles of rank $(d+2)(n-d)+d-2+\sum\limits_{i=0}^p\tbinom{d-1+p-i}{p-i}(1+i)-\tbinom{p+d}{p}$ that are nonhomogeneous over $\mathbb{G}(d,n)$.

Benchmarking the Robustness of Panoptic Segmentation for Automated Driving

Precise situational awareness is required for the safe decision-making of assisted and automated driving (AAD) functions. Panoptic segmentation is a promising perception technique to identify and categorise objects, impending hazards, and driveable space at a pixel level. While segmentation quality is generally associated with the quality of the camera data, a comprehensive understanding and modelling of this relationship are paramount for AAD system designers. Motivated by such a need, this work proposes a unifying pipeline to assess the robustness of panoptic segmentation models for AAD, correlating it with traditional image quality. The first step of the proposed pipeline involves generating degraded camera data that reflects real-world noise factors. To this end, 19 noise factors have been identified and implemented with 3 severity levels. Of these factors, this work proposes novel models for unfavourable light and snow. After applying the degradation models, three state-of-the-art CNN- and vision transformers (ViT)-based panoptic segmentation networks are used to analyse their robustness. The variations of the segmentation performance are then correlated to 8 selected image quality metrics. This research reveals that: 1) certain specific noise factors produce the highest impact on panoptic segmentation, i.e. droplets on lens and Gaussian noise; 2) the ViT-based panoptic segmentation backbones show better robustness to the considered noise factors; 3) some image quality metrics (i.e. LPIPS and CW-SSIM) correlate strongly with panoptic segmentation performance and therefore they can be used as predictive metrics for network performance.

Local Manipulation of Skyrmion Lattice in Fe3GaTe2 at Room Temperature

Motivated by advances in spintronic devices, an extensive exploration is underway to uncover materials that host topologically protected spin textures, exemplified by skyrmions. One critical challenge involved in the potential application of skyrmions in van der Waals (vdW) materials is the attainment and manipulation of skyrmions at room temperature. In this study, we report the creation of intrinsic skyrmion state in van der Waals ferromagnet Fe3GaTe2. By employing variable temperature magnetic force microscopy, the skyrmion lattice can be locally manipulated on Fe3GaTe2 flake. The ordering of skyrmion state is further analyzed. Our result suggest Fe3GaTe2 emerges as a highly promising contender for the realization of skyrmion-based layered spintronic memory devices.

ClassLIE: Structure- and Illumination-Adaptive Classification for Low-Light Image Enhancement

Low-light images often suffer from limited visibility and multiple types of degradation, rendering low-light image enhancement (LIE) a non-trivial task. Some endeavors have been recently made to enhance low-light images using convolutional neural networks (CNNs). However, they have low efficiency in learning the structural information and diverse illumination levels at the local regions of an image. Consequently, the enhanced results are affected by unexpected artifacts, such as unbalanced exposure, blur, and color bias. To this end, this paper proposes a novel framework, called ClassLIE, that combines the potential of CNNs and transformers. It classifies and adaptively learns the structural and illumination information from the low-light images in a holistic and regional manner, thus showing better enhancement performance. Our framework first employs a structure and illumination classification (SIC) module to learn the degradation information adaptively. In SIC, we decompose an input image into an illumination map and a reflectance map. A class prediction block is then designed to classify the degradation information by calculating the structure similarity scores on the reflectance map and mean square error on the illumination map. As such, each input image can be divided into patches with three enhancement difficulty levels. Then, a feature learning and fusion (FLF) module is proposed to adaptively learn the feature information with CNNs for different enhancement difficulty levels while learning the long-range dependencies for the patches in a holistic manner. Experiments on five benchmark datasets consistently show our ClassLIE achieves new state-of-the-art performance, with 25.74 PSNR and 0.92 SSIM on the LOL dataset.

Bayesian mixed model inference for genetic association under related samples with brain network phenotype

Genetic association studies for brain connectivity phenotypes have gained prominence due to advances in non-invasive imaging techniques and quantitative genetics. Brain connectivity traits, characterized by network configurations and unique biological structures, present distinct challenges compared to other quantitative phenotypes. Furthermore, the presence of sample relatedness in most imaging genetics studies limits the feasibility of adopting existing network-response modeling. In this paper, we fill this gap by proposing a Bayesian network-response mixed-effect model that considers a network-variate phenotype and incorporates population structures including pedigrees and unknown sample relatedness. To accommodate the inherent topological architecture associated with the genetic contributions to the phenotype, we model the effect components via a set of effect subnetworks and impose an inter-network sparsity and intra-network shrinkage to dissect the phenotypic network configurations affected by the risk genetic variant. To facilitate uncertainty quantification of signaling components from both genotype and phenotype sides, we develop a Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm for posterior inference. We evaluate the performance and robustness of our model through extensive simulations. By further applying the method to study the genetic bases for brain structural connectivity using data from the Human Connectome Project with excessive family structures, we obtain plausible and interpretable results. Beyond brain connectivity genetic studies, our proposed model also provides a general linear mixed-effect regression framework for network-variate outcomes.

Vetaverse: A Survey on the Intersection of Metaverse, Vehicles, and Transportation Systems

Since 2021, the term "Metaverse" has been the most popular one, garnering a lot of interest. Because of its contained environment and built-in computing and networking capabilities, a modern car makes an intriguing location to host its own little metaverse. Additionally, the travellers don't have much to do to pass the time while traveling, making them ideal customers for immersive services. Vetaverse (Vehicular-Metaverse), which we define as the future continuum between vehicular industries and Metaverse, is envisioned as a blended immersive realm that scales up to cities and countries, as digital twins of the intelligent Transportation Systems, referred to as "TS-Metaverse", as well as customized XR services inside each Individual Vehicle, referred to as "IV-Metaverse". The two subcategories serve fundamentally different purposes, namely long-term interconnection, maintenance, monitoring, and management on scale for large transportation systems (TS), and personalized, private, and immersive infotainment services (IV). By outlining the framework of Vetaverse and examining important enabler technologies, we reveal this impending trend. Additionally, we examine unresolved issues and potential routes for future study while highlighting some intriguing Vetaverse services.

Establishing group-level brain structural connectivity incorporating anatomical knowledge under latent space modeling

Brain structural connectivity, capturing the white matter fiber tracts among brain regions inferred by diffusion MRI (dMRI), provides a unique characterization of brain anatomical organization. One fundamental question to address with structural connectivity is how to properly summarize and perform statistical inference for a group-level connectivity architecture, for instance, under different sex groups, or disease cohorts. Existing analyses commonly summarize group-level brain connectivity by a simple entry-wise sample mean or median across individual brain connectivity matrices. However, such a heuristic approach fully ignores the associations among structural connections and the topological properties of brain networks. In this project, we propose a latent space-based generative network model to estimate group-level brain connectivity. We name our method the attributes-informed brain connectivity (ABC) model, which compared with existing group-level connectivity estimations, (1) offers an interpretable latent space representation of the group-level connectivity, (2) incorporates the anatomical knowledge of nodes and tests its co-varying relationship with connectivity and (3) quantifies the uncertainty and evaluates the likelihood of the estimated group-level effects against chance. We devise a novel Bayesian MCMC algorithm to estimate the model. By applying the ABC model to study brain structural connectivity stratified by sex among Alzheimer's Disease (AD) subjects and healthy controls incorporating the anatomical attributes (volume, thickness and area) on nodes, our method shows superior predictive power on out-of-sample structural connectivity and identifies meaningful sex-specific network neuromarkers for AD.

Ensemble Ranking Model with Multiple Pretraining Strategies for Web Search

An effective ranking model usually requires a large amount of training data to learn the relevance between documents and queries. User clicks are often used as training data since they can indicate relevance and are cheap to collect, but they contain substantial bias and noise. There has been some work on mitigating various types of bias in simulated user clicks to train effective learning-to-rank models based on multiple features. However, how to effectively use such methods on large-scale pre-trained models with real-world click data is unknown. To alleviate the data bias in the real world, we incorporate heuristic-based features, refine the ranking objective, add random negatives, and calibrate the propensity calculation in the pre-training stage. Then we fine-tune several pre-trained models and train an ensemble model to aggregate all the predictions from various pre-trained models with human-annotation data in the fine-tuning stage. Our approaches won 3rd place in the "Pre-training for Web Search" task in WSDM Cup 2023 and are 22.6% better than the 4th-ranked team.

Feature-Enhanced Network with Hybrid Debiasing Strategies for Unbiased Learning to Rank

Unbiased learning to rank (ULTR) aims to mitigate various biases existing in user clicks, such as position bias, trust bias, presentation bias, and learn an effective ranker. In this paper, we introduce our winning approach for the "Unbiased Learning to Rank" task in WSDM Cup 2023. We find that the provided data is severely biased so neural models trained directly with the top 10 results with click information are unsatisfactory. So we extract multiple heuristic-based features for multi-fields of the results, adjust the click labels, add true negatives, and re-weight the samples during model training. Since the propensities learned by existing ULTR methods are not decreasing w.r.t. positions, we also calibrate the propensities according to the click ratios and ensemble the models trained in two different ways. Our method won the 3rd prize with a DCG@10 score of 9.80, which is 1.1% worse than the 2nd and 25.3% higher than the 4th.

An energy decomposition theorem for matrices and related questions

Given $A\subseteq GL_2(\mathbb{F}_q)$, we prove that there exist disjoint subsets $B, C\subseteq A$ such that $A = B \sqcup C$ and their additive and multiplicative energies satisfying \[ \max\{\,E_{+}(B),\, E_{\times}(C)\,\}\ll \frac{|A|^3}{M(|A|)}, \] where \begin{equation*} \label{eqn:MAminBVPolyLSSS} M(|A|) = \min\Bigg\{\,\frac{q^{4/3}}{|A|^{1/3}(\log|A|)^{2/3}},\, \frac{|A|^{4/5}}{q^{13/5}(\log|A|)^{27/10}}\,\Bigg\}. \end{equation*} We also study some related questions on moderate expanders over matrix rings, namely, for $A, B, C\subseteq GL_2(\mathbb{F}_q)$, we have \[|AB+C|, ~|(A+B)C|\gg q^4,\] whenever $|A||B||C|\gg q^{10 + 1/2}$. These improve earlier results due to Karabulut, Koh, Pham, Shen, and Vinh (2019).

Smart Prediction of the Complaint Hotspot Problem in Mobile Network

In mobile network, a complaint hotspot problem often affects even thousands of users' service and leads to significant economic losses and bulk complaints. In this paper, we propose an approach to predict a customer complaint based on real-time user signalling data. Through analyzing the network and user sevice procedure, 30 key data fields related to user experience have been extracted in XDR data collected from the S1 interface. Furthermore, we augment these basic features with derived features for user experience evaluation, such as one-hot features, statistical features and differential features. Considering the problems of unbalanced data, we use LightGBM as our prediction model. LightGBM has strong generalization ability and was designed to handle unbalanced data. Experiments we conducted prove the effectiveness and efficiency of this proposal. This approach has been deployed for daily routine to locate the hot complaint problem scope as well as to report affected users and area.
