Weighted mixed-norm estimates for circular averages and exceptional set estimates for the wave equation

We prove mixed-norm estimates for circular averages with respect to $\alpha$-dimensional fractal measures on $\mathbb{R}^2$, using circle tangency bounds when $\alpha \in (0,1]$ and a $\delta$-discretized slicing lemma for fractals when $\alpha \in (1,2]$. The former estimate is sharp, while the latter improves previous results for $\alpha \in (\frac{3}{2},2]$. These estimates can be viewed as X-ray-type extensions of Wolff's and Bourgain's circular maximal functions. As applications, we obtain new exceptional set estimates for the radial integrability of functions in Lebesgue spaces, as well as for the H\"older regularity in time of solutions to the linear wave equation on $\mathbb{R}^2$. The latter results are the first of their kind.

A weighted formulation of refined decoupling and inequalities of Mizohata-Takeuchi-type for the moment curve

Let $\Gamma$ be a compact patch of a well-curved $C^{n+1}$ curve in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with induced Lebesgue measure ${\rm d} \lambda$, and let $g \mapsto \widehat{g \,{\rm d}\lambda}$ be the Fourier extension operator for $\Gamma$. Then we have, for arbitrary non-negative weights $w$, \begin{equation*} \int_{B_R} |\widehat{g \,{\rm d}\lambda}|^2w \leq C_{n,a} R^{a} \sup_S \left(\int_S w\right)\int_\Gamma |g|^2 \, {\rm d} \lambda \end{equation*} for any $a> \frac{n-3}{2} + \frac{2}{n} - \frac{2}{n^2(n+1)}$, where the $\sup$ is over all $1$-neighbourhoods $S$ of hyperplanes whose normals are parallel to the tangent at some point of $\Gamma$. This represents partial progress on the Mizohata-Takeuchi conjecture for curves in dimensions $n \geq 3$, improving upon the exponent $a=n-1$ which can be obtained as a consequence of the Agmon-H\"ormander trace inequality. Our main tool in establishing this inequality will be a weighted formulation of refined decoupling for well-curved curves. We also discuss the sharpness of the exponents we obtain in this and in auxiliary results, and further explore this in the context of axiomatic decoupling for curves.

Weighted $L^2$ restriction and comparison of nondegeneracy conditions for quadratic manifolds of arbitrary codimensions

We systematically study weighted $L^2$ restriction for quadratic manifolds of arbitrary codimensions by sharp uniform Fourier decay estimates and a refinement of the Du-Zhang method. Comparison with prior results is also discussed. In addition,we obtain an almost complete relation diagram for all existing nondegeneracy conditions for quadratic manifolds of arbitrary codimensions. These conditions come from various topics in harmonic analysis related to "curvature": Fourier restriction, decoupling, Fourier decay, Fourier dimension, weighted restriction, and Radon-like transforms. The diagram has many implications, such as "best possible Stein-Tomas implies best possible $\ell^pL^p$ decoupling". The proof of the diagram requires a combination of ideas from Fourier analysis, complex analysis, convex geometry, geometric invariant theory, combinatorics, and matrix analysis.

A short proof of an identity related to Type IV superorthogonality

We provide a much shorter but even more powerful proof of an algebraic identity, which can be used to establish the direct and the converse inequality under Type IV superorthogonality. As an application, we obtain the optimal order of the formal constant in the direct inequality. This order turns out to be also sharp for Type III superorthogonality. When $p\geq 2$, our result recovers the optimal order of the constant in the Burkholder-Gundy inequality in martingale theory, and also recovers the currently best order of the constant in the reverse Littlewood-Paley inequality. We also introduce variants of Type IV superorthogonality, under which we prove the converse inequality.

Sharp restriction estimates for some degenerate higher codimensional quadratic surfaces

The Fourier restriction conjecture is a fundamental problem in harmonic analysis. In this paper, we investigate restriction estimates for degenerate higher codimensional quadratic surfaces and obtain sharp results for some types of degenerate cases. A major obstacle in establishing sharp restriction estimates is the failure of rescaling invariance, which is crucial for induction on scale to be effective. Motivated by the work of Guo and Oh (2022), we introduce a method, building on an iterative variant of the broad-narrow analysis, that does not heavily rely on induction on scale. To obtain suitable transversality conditions for this analysis and to derive desirable bounds for the broad part, we define a generalized notion of Jacobian, and establish its structural properties. These properties are proved using tools and techniques from both algebra and graph theory.

A study guide for the $\ell^2$ decoupling theorem for the paraboloid

This article serves as a study guide for the $\ell^2$ decoupling theorem for the paraboloid originally proved by Bourgain and Demeter. Given its popularity and importance, many expositions about the $\ell^2$ decoupling theorem already exist. Our study guide is intended to complement and combine these existing resources in order to provide a more gentle introduction to the subject.
