Quantum propagation for Berezin-Toeplitz operators

We describe the asymptotic behaviour of the quantum propagator generated by a Berezin-Toeplitz operator with real-valued principal symbol. We also give precise asymptotics for smoothed spectral projectors associated with the operator in the autonomous case; this leads us to introducting quantum states associated with immersed Lagrangian submanifolds. These descriptions involve geometric quantities of two origins, coming from lifts of the Hamiltonian flow to the prequantum bundle and the canonical bundle respectively. The latter are the main contribution of this article and are connected to the Maslov indices appearing in trace formulas, as will be explained in a forthcoming paper.

Regular Bohr-Sommerfeld rules for non-self-adjoint Berezin--Toeplitz operators and complex Lagrangian states

We describe the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of real-analytic, non-self-adjoint Berezin--Toeplitz operators, up to exponentially small error, on complex one-dimensional compact manifolds, under the hypothesis of regularity of the energy levels. These results form a complex version of the Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization conditions; they hold under a hypothesis that the skew-adjoint part is small but can be of principal order with respect to the semiclassical parameter. To this end, we develop a calculus of Fourier Integral Operators and Lagrangian states associated with complex Lagrangians; these tools are of independent interest.

Families of four-dimensional integrable systems with $S^1$-symmetries

The aim of this paper is to give new insights about families of integrable systems lifting a Hamiltonian $S^1$-space. Specifically, we study one-parameter families $(M^4,ω,F_t=(J,H_t))_{0 \leq t \leq 1}$ of systems with a fixed Hamiltonian $S^1$-space $(M,ω,J)$ and which are semitoric for certain values of the parameter $t$, with a focus on such families in which one singular point undergoes a Hamiltonian-Hopf bifurcation (also called nodal trade in the context of semitoric systems, and more generally almost toric fibrations). Beyond semitoric systems, we also study families containing hypersemitoric systems, and we investigate the local theory of a nodal trade.\\Building on and generalizing the ideas of a previous paper, we show how such families can be used to find explicit semitoric systems with certain desired invariants (bundled in the marked semitoric polygon). This allows us to make progress on the semitoric minimal model program by understanding and coming up with explicit systems for each strictly minimal type (i.e., those not admitting any toric or semitoric type blowdown). In order to obtain these systems, we develop strategies for constructing and understanding explicit examples of semitoric (and hypersemitoric) systems in general. One strategy we make use of is to start from a well-understood system (such as a toric system) and to explicitly induce Hamiltonian-Hopf bifurcations to produce focus-focus singular points. This is an expanded version of the technique used in the aforementioned previous paper, in order to apply it to semitoric systems which include non-trivial isotropy spheres in the underlying $S^1$-space (i.e., $\mathbb{Z}_k$-spheres), which occurs in several of the strictly minimal systems.\\In particular, we give an explicit one-parameter family of systems on $\mathbb{CP}^2$ which transitions between being of toric type, semitoric type, and hypersemitoric type depending on the value of the parameter. We study this system at each stage, computing the marked semitoric polygon of the semitoric system and determining several properties of the hypersemitoric system, including the existence of a unique flap and two parabolic orbits. Furthermore, we study the transitions between these stages.\\We also come up with new explicit semitoric systems on all Hirzebruch surfaces which, together with the previous systems and the systems already contained in the literature, gives an explicit model for every type of strictly minimal system. Moreover, we show how to obtain every strictly minimal system by applying sequences of alternating toric type blowups and blowdowns to simple explicit systems. In particular, we obtain that every strictly minimal semitoric polygon can be obtained from a semitoric system which is part of a family $(M,ω,F_t=(J,H_t))$ which is semitoric for all but a finite number of values of $t$, called a semitoric family.

The inverse spectral problem for quantum semitoric systems

Given a quantum semitoric system composed of pseudodifferential operators, Berezin-Toeplitz operators, or a combination of both, we obtain explicit formulas for recovering, from the semiclassical asymptotics of the joint spectrum, all symplectic invariants of the underlying classical semitoric system. Our formulas are based on the possibility to obtain good quantum numbers for joint eigenvalues from the bare data of the joint spectrum. In the spectral region corresponding to regular values of the momentum map, the algorithms developed by Dauge, Hall and the second author [27] produce such labellings. In our proof, it was crucial to extend these algorithms to the boundary of the spectrum, which led to the new notion of asymptotic half-lattices, and to globalize the resulting labellings. Using the construction given by Pelayo and the second author in [79], our results prove that semitoric systems are completely spectrally determined in an algorithmic way~: from the joint spectrum of a quantum semitoric system one can construct a representative of the isomorphism class of the underlying classical semitoric system. In particular, this recovers the uniqueness result obtained by Pelayo and the authors in [62,61], and completes it with the explicit computation of all invariants, including the twisting index. In the cases of the spin-oscillator and the coupled angular momenta, we implement the algorithms and illustrate numerically the computation of the invariants from the joint spectrum.

Berezin-Toeplitz operators, Kodaira maps, and random sections

We study the zeros of sections of the form $T_k s_k$ of a large power $L^{\otimes k} \to M$ of a holomorphic positive Hermitian line bundle over a compact K\''ahler manifold $M$, where $s_k$ is a random holomorphic section of $L^{\otimes k}$ and $T_k$ is a Berezin-Toeplitz operator, in the limit $k \to +\infty$. In particular, we compute the second order approximation of the expectation of the distribution of these zeros. In a ball of radius of order $k^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ around $x \in M$, assuming that the principal symbol $f$ of $T_k$ is real-valued and vanishes transversally, we show that this expectation exhibits two drastically different behaviors depending on whether $f(x) = 0$ or $f(x) \neq 0$. These different regimes are related to a similar phenomenon about the convergence of the normalized Fubini-Study forms associated with $T_k$: they converge to the K\''ahler form in the sense of currents as $k\rightarrow + \infty$, but not as differential forms (even pointwise). This contrasts with the standard case $f=1$, in which the convergence is in the $\mathscr{C}^{\infty}$-topology. From this, we are able to recover the zero set of $f$ from the zeros of $T_k s_k$.

Semitoric families

Semitoric systems are a type of four-dimensional integrable system for which one of the integrals generates a global $S^1$-action; these systems were classified by Pelayo and Vu Ngoc in terms of five symplectic invariants. We introduce and study semitoric families, which are one-parameter families of integrable systems with a fixed $S^1$-action that are semitoric for all but finitely many values of the parameter, with the goal of developing a strategy to find a semitoric system associated to a given partial list of semitoric invariants. We also enumerate the possible behaviors of such families at the parameter values for which they are not semitoric, providing examples illustrating nearly all possible behaviors, which describes the possible limits of semitoric systems with a fixed $S^1$-action. Furthermore, we introduce natural notions of blowup and blowdown in this context, investigate how semitoric families behave under these operations, and use this to prove that each Hirzebruch surface admits a semitoric family with certain desirable invariants; these families are related to the semitoric minimal model program. Finally, we give several explicit semitoric families on the first and second Hirzebruch surfaces showcasing various possible behaviors of such families which include new semitoric systems.

Spectral asymptotics of semiclassical unitary operators

This paper establishes an aspect of Bohr's correspondence principle, i.e. that quantum mechanics converges in the high frequency limit to classical mechanics, for commuting semiclassical unitary operators. We prove, under minimal assumptions, that the semiclassical limit of the convex hulls of the quantum spectrum of a collection of commuting semiclassical unitary operators converges to the convex hull of the classical spectrum of the principal symbols of the operators.

Bounds for fidelity of semiclassical Lagrangian states in K{ä}hler quantization

We define mixed states associated with submanifolds with probability densities in quantizable closed K{ä}hler manifolds. Then, we address the problem of comparing two such states via their fidelity. Firstly, we estimate the sub-fidelity and super-fidelity of two such states, giving lower and upper bounds for their fidelity, when the underlying submanifolds are two Lagrangian submanifolds intersecting transversally at a finite number of points, in the semiclassical limit. Secondly, we investigate a family of examples on the sphere, for which we manage to obtain a better upper bound for the fidelity. We conclude by stating a conjecture regarding the fidelity in the general case.

Symplectic geometry and spectral properties of classical and quantum coupled angular momenta

We give a detailed study of the symplectic geometry of a family of integrable systems obtained by coupling two angular momenta in a non trivial way. These systems depend on a parameter t $\in$ [0, 1] and exhibit different behaviors according to its value. For a certain range of values, the system is semitoric, and we compute some of its symplectic invariants. Even though these invariants have been known for almost a decade, this is to our knowledge the first example of their computation in the case of a non-toric semitoric system on a compact manifold (the only invariant of toric systems is the image of the momentum map). In the second part of the paper we quantize this system, compute its joint spectrum, and describe how to use this joint spectrum to recover information about the symplectic invariants.

Euler-MacLaurin formulas via differential operators

Recently there has been a renewed interest in asymptotic Euler-MacLaurin formulas, partly due to applications to spectral theory of differential operators. Using elementary means, we recover such formulas for compactly supported smooth functions f on intervals, polygons, and 3-dimensional polytopes, where the coefficients in the asymptotic expansion are sums of differential operators involving only derivatives of f in directions normal to the faces of the polytope. Our formulas apply to wedges of any dimension. This paper builds on, and is motivated by, works of Guillemin, Sternberg, and others, in the past ten years.

Inverse spectral theory for semiclassical Jaynes-Cummings systems

Quantum semitoric systems form a large class of quantum Hamiltonian integrable systems with circular symmetry which has received great attention in the past decade. They include systems of high interest to physicists and mathematicians such as the Jaynes\--Cummings model (1963), which describes a two-level atom interacting with a quantized mode of an optical cavity, and more generally the so-called systems of Jaynes\--Cummings type. In this paper we consider the joint spectrum of a pair of commuting semiclassical operators forming a quantum integrable system of Jaynes\--Cummings type. We prove, assuming the Bohr\--Sommerfeld rules hold, that if the joint spectrum of two of these systems coincide up to $\mathcal{O}(\hbar^2)$, then the systems are isomorphic.

Singular Bohr-Sommerfeld conditions for 1D Toeplitz operators: hyperbolic case

In this article, we state the Bohr-Sommerfeld conditions around a singular value of hyperbolic type of the principal symbol of a self-adjoint semiclassical Toeplitz operator on a compact connected Kähler surface. These conditions allow the description of the spectrum of the operator in a fixed size neighbourhood of the singularity. We provide numerical computations for three examples, each associated to a different topology.

Singular Bohr-Sommerfeld conditions for 1D Toeplitz operators: elliptic case

In this article, we state the Bohr-Sommerfeld conditions around a global minimum of the principal symbol of a self-adjoint semiclassical Toeplitz operator on a compact connected Kähler surface, using an argument of normal form which is obtained thanks to Fourier integral operators. These conditions give an asymptotic expansion of the eigenvalues of the operator in a neighbourhood of fixed size of the singularity. We also recover the usual Bohr-Sommerfeld conditions away from the critical point. We end by investigating an example on the two-dimensional torus.
