Variational Inequalities for Bilinear Averaging Operators over Convex Bodies

We study $q$-variation inequality for bilinear averaging operators over convex bodies $(G_t)_{t>0}$ defined by \begin{align*} \mathbf{A}_t^G(f_1,f_2)(x) & =\frac{1}{|G_t|}\int_{G_t} f_1(x+y_1)f_2(x+y_2)\, dy_1\, dy_2, \quad x\in \Bbb R^d. \end{align*} where $G_t$ are the dilates of a convex body $G$ in $\Bbb R^{2d}$. We prove that $$\|V_q(\mathbf{A}_t^G(f_1,f_2): t>0) \|_{L^p} \lesssim \|f_1\|_{L^{p_1}} \|f_2\|_{L^{p_2}},$$ for $2<q<\infty$, $1<p_1,p_2\le \infty$, $1/2<p<\infty$ with $1/p=1/p_1+1/p_2$. The target space $L^p$ should be replaced by $L^{p,\infty}$ for $p_1=1$ and/or $p_2=1$, and by dyadic BMO when $p_1=p_2=\infty$. As applications, we obtain variational inequalities for bilinear discrete averaging operators, bilinear averaging operators of Demeter-Tao-Thiele, and ergodic bilinear averaging operators. As a byproduct, we also obtain the same mapping properties for a new class of bilinear square functions involving conditional expectation, which are of independent interest.

Coefficient of performance at maximum cooling power of a simplified quantum dot refrigerator model with resistance

A simplified analytical model of single-level quantum dot (QD) refrigerator was studied without considering the electron spin and Coulomb interaction. Based on the ballistic transport of electrons between two reservoirs across the QD, the Joule heat of the system was assumed to be generated from the Ohmic contacts between the QD and reservoirs. By using the transition rate equation, the performance of the QD refrigerator was studied with respect to the electron transmission probability and the partition ratio (i.e., the fraction of Joule heat generated in the system that releases into the cold reservoir). The analytical expression of the maximum coefficient of performance was obtained under the exoreversible working condition. The Carnot-bound-dependent coefficient of performance at maximum cooling power of the QD system was also demonstrated numerically. The results of this work may provide some guidance for the design of mesoscopic refrigerators.

Sharp inequalities for linear combinations of orthogonal martingales

For any two real-valued continuous-path martingales $X=\{X_t\}_{t\geq 0}$ and $Y=\{Y_t\}_{t\geq 0}$, with $X$ and $Y$ being orthogonal and $Y$ being differentially subordinate to $X$, we obtain sharp $L^p$ inequalities for martingales of the form $aX+bY$ with $a, b$ real numbers. The best $L^p$ constant is equal to the norm of the operator $aI+bH$ from $L^p$ to $L^p$, where $H$ is the Hilbert transform on the circle or real line. The values of these norms were found by Hollenbeck, Kalton and Verbitsky \cite{HKV}.

A multi-candidate electronic voting scheme with unlimited participants

In this paper a new multi-candidate electronic voting scheme is constructed with unlimited participants. The main idea is to express a ballot to allow voting for up to k out of the m candidates and unlimited participants. The purpose of vote is to select more than one winner among $m$ candidates. Our result is complementary to the result by Sun peiyong$'$ s scheme, in the sense, their scheme is not amenable for large-scale electronic voting due to flaw of ballot structure. In our scheme the vote is split and hidden, and tallying is made for $G\ddot{o}del$ encoding in decimal base without any trusted third party, and the result does not rely on any traditional cryptography or computational intractable assumption. Thus the proposed scheme not only solves the problem of ballot structure, but also achieves the security including perfect ballot secrecy, receipt-free, robustness, fairness and dispute-freeness.

Weighted jump and variational inequalities for rough operators

In this paper, we systematically study weighted jump and variational inequalities for rough operators. More precisely, we show some weighted jump and variational inequalities for the families $\mathcal T:=\{T_\varepsilon\}_{\varepsilon>0}$ of truncated singular integrals and $\mathcal M_Ω:=\{M_{Ω,t}\}_{t>0}$ of averaging operators with rough kernels, which are defined respectively by $$ T_\varepsilon f(x)=\int_{|y|>\varepsilon}\frac{Ω(y')}{|y|^n}f(x-y)dy$$ and $$M_{Ω,t} f(x)=\frac1{t^n}\int_{|y| 1$.

Variational inequalities for the commutators of rough operators with BMO functions

In this paper, starting with a relatively simple observation that the variational estimates of the commutators of the standard Calderón-Zygmund operators with the BMO functions can be deduced from the weighted variational estimates of the standard Calderón-Zygmund operators themselves, we establish similar variational estimates for the commutators of the BMO functions with rough singular integrals which do not admit any weighted variational estimates. The proof involves many Littlewood-Paley type inequalities with commutators as well as Bony decomposition and related para-product estimates.

Some jump and variational inequalities for the Calderón commutators and related operators

In this paper, we establish jump and variational inequalities for the Calderón commutators, which are typical examples of non-convolution Calderón-Zygmund operators. For this purpose, we also show jump and variational inequalities for para-products and commutators from pseudo-differential calculus, which are of independent interest. New ingredients in the proofs involve identifying Carleson measures constructed from sequences of stopping times, in addition to many Littlewood-Paley type estimates with gradient.

Weak type (1,1) bound criterion for singular integral with rough kernel and its applications

In this paper, a weak type (1,1) bound criterion is established for singular integral operator with rough kernel. As some applications of this criterion, we prove some important operators with rough kernel in harmonic analysis, such as Calderón commutator, higher order Calderón commutator, general Calderón commutator, Calderón commutator of Bajsanski-Coifman type and general singular integral of Muckenhoupt type, are all of weak type (1,1).

Riesz transforms associated with higher-order Schrödinger type operators

In this paper, let $L=L_{0}+V$ be a Schrödinger type operator where $L_{0}$ is higher order elliptic operator with complex coefficients in divergence form and $V$ is signed measurable function, under the strongly subcritical assumption on $V$, the authors study the $L^{q}$ boundedness of Riesz transforms $\nabla^{m}L^{-1/2}$ for $q\leq 2$ and obtain a sharp result. Furthermore, the authors impose extra regularity assumptions on $V$ to obtain the $L^{q}$ boundedness of Riesz transforms $\nabla^{m}L^{-1/2}$ for $q>2$. As an application, the main results can be applied to the operator $L=(-Δ)^{m}-γ|x|^{-2m}$ for suitable $γ$

$L^1$-Dini conditions and limiting behavior of weak type estimates for singular integrals

In 2006, Janakiraman [10] showed that if $Ω$ with mean value zero on $S^{n-1}$ satisfies the condition \[ \sup_{|ξ|=1}\int_{S^{n-1}}|Ω(θ)-Ω(θ+δξ)|dσ(θ)\leq Cnδ\int_{S^{n-1}}|Ω(θ)|dσ(θ),\quad 0<δ<\frac{1}{n},\ (\ast) \] then for the singular integral operator $T_Ω$ with homogeneous kernel, the following limiting behavior holds: \[\lim\limits_{λ\rightarrow 0}λm(\{x\in\mathbb{R}^n:|T_Ωf(x)|>λ\})= \frac{1}{n}\|Ω\|_{1}\|f\|_{1},\quad \text{for}\ f\in L^1(\mathbb{R}^n)\ \text{with}\ f\geq 0.\ (\ast\ast)\] In the present paper, we prove that if replacing the condition $(\ast)$ by more general condition, the $L^1$-Dini condition, then the limiting behavior $(\ast\ast)$ still holds for the singular integral $T_Ω$. In particular, we give an example which satisfies the $L^1$-Dini condition, but does not satisfy $(\ast)$. Hence, we improve essentially the above result given in [10]. To prove our conclusion, we show that the $L^1$-Dini conditions defined respectively via the rotation and translation on $\mathbb{R}^n$ are equivalent (see Theorem 2.5 below), which has its own interest in the theory of singular integrals. Moreover, similar limiting behavior for the fractional integral operator $T_{Ω,α}$ with homogeneous kernel is also established in this paper.

Weighted bound for commutators

Let $K$ be the Calderón-Zygmund convolution kernel on $\mathbb{R}^d (d\geq2)$. Define the commutator associated with $K$ and $a\in L^\infty(\mathbb{R}^d)$ by \[ T_af(x)=p.v. \int K(x-y)m_{x,y}a\cdot f(y)dy. \] Recently, Grafakos and Honz\'ık [5] proved that $T_a$ is of weak type (1,1) for $d=2$. In this paper, we show that $T_a$ is also weighted weak type (1,1) with the weight $|x|^α\,(-2<α<0)$ for $d=2$. Moreover, we prove that $T_a$ is bounded on weighted $L^p(\mathbb{R}^d)\,(1<p<\infty)$ for all $d\ge2$.

Jump and variational inequalities for rough operators

In this paper, we systematically study jump and variational inequalities for rough operators, whose research have been initiated by Jones {\it et al}. More precisely, we show some jump and variational inequalities for the families $\mathcal T:=\{T_\varepsilon\}_{\varepsilon>0}$ of truncated singular integrals and $\mathcal M:=\{M_t\}_{t>0}$ of averaging operators with rough kernels, which are defined respectively by $$ T_\varepsilon f(x)=\int_{|y|>\varepsilon}\frac{Ω(y')}{|y|^n}f(x-y)dy $$ and $$M_t f(x)=\frac1{t^n}\int_{|y|<t}Ω(y')f(x-y)dy, $$ where the kernel $Ω$ belongs to $L\log^+\!\!L(\mathbf S^{n-1})$ or $H^1(\mathbf S^{n-1})$ or $\mathcal{G}_α(\mathbf S^{n-1})$ (the condition introduced by Grafakos and Stefanov). Some of our results are sharp in the sense that the underlying assumptions are the best known conditions for the boundedness of corresponding maximal operators.

Compactness of commutators of bilinear maximal Calderón-Zygmund singular integral operators

Let $T$ be a bilinear Calderón-Zygmund singular integral operator and $T_*$ be its corresponding truncated maximal operator. The commutators in the $i$-$th$ entry and the iterated commutators of $T_*$ are defined by $$ T_{\ast,b,1}(f,g)(x)=\sup_{δ>0}\bigg|\iint_{|x-y|+|x-z|>δ}K(x,y,z)(b(y)-b(x))f(y)g(z)dydz\bigg|, $$ $$T_{\ast,b,2}(f,g)(x)=\sup_{δ>0}\bigg|\iint_{|x-y|+|x-z|>δ}K(x,y,z)(b(z)-b(x))f(y)g(z)dydz\bigg|,$$ \begin{align*} T_{\ast,(b_1,b_2)}(f,g)(x)=\sup\limits_{δ>0}\bigg|\iint_{|x-y|+|x-z|>δ} K(x,y,z)(b_1(y)-b_1(x))(b_2(z)-b_2(x))f(y)g(z)dydz\bigg|. \end{align*} In this paper, the compactness of the commutators $T_{\ast,b,1}$, $T_{\ast,b,2}$ and $T_{\ast,(b_1,b_2)}$ on $L^r(\mathbb{R}^n))$ is established.

Domain structures and superdislocations of La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 thin films grown on SrTiO3 substrates

The domain structures and dislocations in epitaxial thin films of La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 grown on SrTiO3 substrates by pulsed laser deposition were investigated using Bragg-contrast diffraction and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. It revealed that the films contained the 1/2[100]o and 1/2[10-1]o types partial threading dislocations, the 90 degree - and 120 degree - types of twin- domain boundaries, and two types 1/2[010]o, 1/2[111]o, of antiphase boundaries, which are often observed in bulk materials. In addition, two types of superdislocations were detected; one consisted of two 1/2[111]o dislocations and a 1/2[111]o antiphase boundary, and the other was composed of two 1/2[010]o dislocations and a 1/2[010]o antiphase boundary. These superdislocations, domain boundaries, and their relationships were extensively explored.

Effect due to charge symmetry violation on the Paschos-Wolfenstein relation

The modification of the Paschos-Wolfenstein relation is investigated when the charge symmetry violations of valence and sea quark distributions in the nucleon are taken into account. We also study qualitatively the impact of charge symmetry violation (CSV) effect on the extraction of $\sin^{2}θ_{w}$ from deep inelastic neutrino- and antineutrino-nuclei scattering within the light-cone meson-baryon fluctuation model. We find that the effect of CSV is too small to give a sizable contribution to the NuTeV result with various choices of mass difference inputs, which is consistence with the prediction that the strange-antistrange asymmetry can account for largely the NuTeV deviation in this model. It is noticeable that the effect of CSV might contribute to the NuTeV deviation when the larger difference between the internal momentum scales, $α_{p}$ of the proton and $α_{n}$ of the neutron, is considered.

Nucleon sea in the effective chiral quark model

The asymmetries of both light-flavor antiquark $\bar{d}(x)-\bar{u}(x)$ and strange-antistrange $s(x)-\bar{s}(x)$ distributions of the nucleon sea are considered with more details in the effective chiral quark model. We find that the asymmetric distribution of light-flavor antiquarks $\bar{d}(x)-\bar{u}(x)$ matches the experiment data well and that the asymmetry of strange and antistrange distributions can bring about 60-100% correction to the NuTeV anomaly of $\sin^{2}θ_{w}$, which are three standard deviations from the world average value measured in other electroweak processes. The results on the correction to the NuTeV anomaly are insensitive to the inputs of the constituent quark distributions and the cut-off parameters. The ratios of $\bar{d}(x)/\bar{u}(x)$ and $s(x)/\bar{s}(x)$ are also discussed, and it is found that the ratio $s(x)/\bar{s}(x)$ is compatible with the available experiments with an additional symmetric sea contribution being considered effectively.
