Fully stabilized 25 GHz frequency comb for frequency calibration of optical spectrum analyzer

Optical spectrometers are widely used in scientific and industrial applications, and precise frequency calibration is essential for ensuring their reliable performance. Traditionally, spectrometers have been calibrated using reference gas cells or reference lamps. However, such conventional methods are not enough to meet the demands for high accuracy and stability. Although frequency-stabilized lasers offer excellent frequency uncertainty, they provide only a single calibration point at a fixed frequency, which is unsuitable for wide-range spectrometer calibration. In this work, we demonstrate a fully stabilized, high-repetition rate electro-optic frequency comb (EO comb) as an absolute frequency reference providing multiple calibration points over a broad spectral range. Our 25 GHz EO comb provides a broadband spectrum spanning from 189.5 THz to 196 THz (corresponding to 1530 nm to 1582 nm), traceable to a frequency standard with a relative standard uncertainty of 10^-13. The well-defined and evenly spaced comb modes can be spectrally resolved by conventional optical spectrometers, enabling wide-range, high-precision frequency calibration. We directly calibrated a commercial spectrometer by referencing its measured frequency values to our well-defined comb modes, thereby evaluating the frequency error with a standard uncertainty of 20 MHz (or relative standard uncertainty of 10^-7), which is limited by the Type A uncertainty (repeatability) of the spectrometer. The proposed method is simple to implement and provides multiple calibration points referenced to the frequency standards over a broad spectral range. This approach improves both the calibration and performance evaluation of spectrometers, and it contributes to the advancement of optical metrology.

Fully viable DHOST bounce with extra scalar

In this paper we construct a class of Degenerate Higher-Order Scalar-Tensor (DHOST) theories with an extra scalar field, which admits viable solutions of bouncing universe satisfying the following requirements: (i) absence of Belinski-Khalatnikov-Lifshitz (BKL) instability, ghost and gradient instability, (ii) absence of superluminality, (iii) generation of nearly scale-invariant curvature perturbations and very small tensor-to-scalar ratio, and (iv) conventional asymptotics in the distant past and future, where gravity sector is described by General Relativity and the DHOST scalar has a canonical form of Lagrangian. We also expect our models to have sufficiently small non-Gaussianities of primordial curvature perturbations to be compatible with observations. As such, this work exemplifies for the first time the fully viable two-field DHOST bouncing cosmology, which is free of instability and superluminality problems as well as compatible with observations.

Bridging between reheating and late-time observations in quintessential inflation

We propose an idea to build a bridge between reheating and late-time observations in quintessential inflation by backtracking the evolution of the inflaton field from the present time to the end of reheating. This idea is implemented when the potential gradient is negligible compared to the Hubble friction, rendering the inflaton field frozen, till the present time. We find a simple analytic relation between the reheating temperature and the observational parameters for dark energy, and numerically confirm its validity for typical models of quintessential inflation. This relation is universal and can apply to all quintessential inflation models with any reheating mechanism. It also implies that any quintessential inflation model with a successful reheating with the reheating temperature $1\textrm{MeV}\lesssim T_\textrm{re}\lesssim 10^{15}\textrm{GeV}$ predicts the equation of state of dark energy today extremely close to $-1$, i.e. $-1+10^{-60}\lesssim w_0\lesssim -1+10^{-24}$, unless the inflaton field unfreezes before the present time.

Spin-Orbit Torque Engineering in β-W/CoFeB Heterostructures via Ta and V Alloying at Interfaces

Spin-orbit torque manifested as an accumulated spin-polarized moment at nonmagnetic normal metal, and ferromagnet interfaces is a promising magnetization switching mechanism for spintronic devices. To fully exploit this in practice, materials with a high spin Hall angle, i.e., a charge-to-spin conversion efficiency, are indispensable. To date, very few approaches have been made to devise new nonmagnetic metal alloys. Moreover, new materials need to be compatible with semiconductor processing. Here we introduce W-Ta and W-V alloys and deploy them at the interface between $β$-W/CoFeB layers. First, spin Hall conductivities of W-Ta and W-V structures with various compositions are carried out by first-principles band calculations, which predict the spin Hall conductivity of the W-V alloy is improved from $-0.82 \times 10^3$ S/cm that of W to $-1.98 \times 10^3$ S/cm. Subsequently, heterostructure fabrication and spin-orbit torque properties are characterized experimentally. By alloying $β$-W with V at a concentration of 20 at%, we observe a large enhancement of the absolute value of spin Hall conductivity of up to $-(2.77 \pm 0.31) \times 10^3$ S/cm. By employing X-ray diffraction and scanning transmission electron microscopy, we further explain the enhancement of spin-orbit torque efficiency is stemmed from W-V alloy between W and CoFeB.

Enhancement of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in thin ferromagnetic films by atomic-scale modulation of interfaces

To stabilize the non-trivial spin textures, e.g., skyrmions or chiral domain walls in ultrathin magnetic films, an additional degree of freedom such as the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (IDMI) must be induced by the strong spin-orbit coupling (SOC) of a stacked heavy metal layer. However, advanced approaches to simultaneously control IDMI and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) are needed for future spin-orbitronic device implementations. Here, we show an effect of atomic-scale surface modulation on the magnetic properties and IDMI in ultrathin films composed of 5d heavy metal/ferromagnet/4d(5d) heavy metal or oxide interfaces, such as Pt/CoFeSiB/Ru, Pt/CoFeSiB/Ta, and Pt/CoFeSiB/MgO. The maximum IDMI value corresponds to the correlated roughness of the bottom and top interfaces of the ferromagnetic layer. The proposed approach for significant enhancement of PMA and IDMI through the interface roughness engineering at the atomic scale offers a powerful tool for the development of the spin-orbitronic devices with the precise and reliable controllability of their functionality.
