Maximally nodal sextic surfaces and linear determinantal representations

We prove that every maximally nodal sextic surface\,(with 65 nodes) $X \subset \mathbb{P}_{\mathbb{C}}^3$ contains a symmetric half-even set of nodes of cardinality 35. It follows that the associated half-quadratic sheaf is the cokernel of a symmetric $6 \times 6$ matrix of linear forms, yielding a linear determinantal representation of $X$. In particular, after a suitable Serre twist, the half-quadratic sheaf is an Ulrich sheaf of rank 1. As an example, we exhibit an explicit $6 \times 6$ matrix of linear forms whose determinant defines the Barth sextic surface.

Counting $h^0(D)$ on primary Burniat surfaces

We study the cohomology of divisors on a Burniat surface $X$ with $K_X^2=6$. We provide an algorithm for computing the cohomology groups of arbitrary divisors on $X$. As an application, we prove that there are no Ulrich line bundles\,(with respect to an arbitrary polarization), and that there exists an Ulrich vector bundle of rank 2 with respect to $3K_X$. The existence of Ulrich vector bundle of rank 2 was previously established by Casnati, but our construction yields one that cannot be obtained by his method.

Positivity of double point divisors

The non-isomorphic locus of a general projection from an embedded smooth projective variety to a hypersurface moves in a linear system of an effective divisor which we call the double point divisor. David Mumford proved that the double point divisor from outer projection is always base point free, and Bo Ilic proved that it is ample except for a Roth variety. The first aim of this paper is to show that the double point divisor from outer projection is very ample except in the Roth case. This answers a question of Bo Ilic. Unlike the case of outer projection, the double point divisor from inner projection may not be base point free nor ample. However, Atsushi Noma proved that it is semiample except when a variety is neither a Roth variety, a scroll over a curve, nor the second Veronese surface. In this paper, we investigate when the double point divisor from inner projection is base point free or big.

Exceptional collections on Dolgachev surfaces associated with degenerations

Dolgachev surfaces are simply connected minimal elliptic surfaces with $p_g=q=0$ and of Kodaira dimension 1. These surfaces were constructed by logarithmic transformations of rational elliptic surfaces. In this paper, we explain the construction of Dolgachev surfaces via $\mathbb Q$-Gorenstein smoothing of singular rational surfaces with two cyclic quotient singularities. This construction is based on the paper by Lee-Park. Also, some exceptional bundles on Dolgachev surfaces associated with $\mathbb Q$-Gorenstein smoothing are constructed based on the idea of Hacking. In the case if Dolgachev surfaces were of type $(2,3)$, we describe the Picard group and present an exceptional collection of maximal length. Finally, we prove that the presented exceptional collection is not full, hence there exist a nontrivial phantom category in the derived category.

Ulrich bundles on intersections of two 4-dimensional quadrics

In this paper, we investigate the existence of Ulrich bundles on a smooth complete intersection of two $4$-dimensional quadrics in $\mathbb P^5$ by two completely different methods. First, we find good ACM curves and use Serre correspondence in order to construct Ulrich bundles, which is analogous to the construction on a cubic threefold by Casanellas-Hartshorne-Geiss-Schreyer. Next, we use Bondal-Orlov's semiorthogonal decomposition of the derived category of coherent sheaves to analyze Ulrich bundles. Using these methods, we prove that any smooth intersection of two 4-dimensional quadrics in $\mathbb P^5$ carries an Ulrich bundle of rank $r$ for every $r \ge 2$. Moreover, we provide a description of the moduli space of stable Ulrich bundles.

On derived categories of nonminimal Enriques surfaces

By Orlov's formula, the derived category of blow up must contain the original variety as a semiorthogonal component. This arises an interesting question: does there exist a variety $X$ such that $\operatorname{D}^{\sf b}(X)$ does not admit an exceptional collection of maximal length, but $\operatorname{D}^{\sf b}(\operatorname{Bl}_{x} X)$ admits such a collection? We give such an example where $X$ is a minimal Enriques surface.
