Two dimensional vertex-decorated Lieb lattice with exact mobility edges and robust flat bands

The mobility edge (ME) that marks the energy separating extended and localized states is a central concept in understanding the metal-insulator transition induced by disordered or quasiperiodic potentials. MEs have been extensively studied in three dimensional disorder systems and one-dimensional quasiperiodic systems. However, the studies of MEs in two dimensional (2D) systems are rare. Here we propose a class of 2D vertex-decorated Lieb lattice models with quasiperiodic potentials only acting on the vertices of a (extended) Lieb lattice. By mapping these models to the 2D Aubry-André model, we obtain exact expressions of MEs and the localization lengths of localized states, and further demonstrate that the flat bands remain unaffected by the quasiperiodic potentials. Finally, we propose a highly feasible scheme to experimentally realize our model in a quantum dot array. Our results open the door to studying and realizing exact MEs and robust flat bands in 2D systems.

Gigantic magnetochiral anisotropy in the topological semimetal ZrTe5

Topological materials with broken inversion symmetry can give rise to nonreciprocal responses, such as the current rectification controlled by magnetic fields via magnetochiral anisotropy. Bulk nonreciprocal responses usually stem from relativistic corrections and are always very small. Here we report our discovery that ZrTe5 crystals in proximity to a topological quantum phase transition present gigantic magnetochiral anisotropy, which is the largest ever observed to date. We argue that a very low carrier density, inhomogeneities, and a torus-shaped Fermi surface induced by breaking of inversion symmetry in a Dirac material are central to explain this extraordinary property.

Exact mobility edges for 1D quasiperiodic models

Mobility edges (ME), i.e. critical energies which separate absolutely continuous spectrum and purely point spectrum, is an important issue in quantum physics. So far there are two experimentally feasible 1D quasiperiodic models that have been discovered to have exact mobility edge. However, all the theoretical studies have remained at the numerical level. In this paper, we rigorously prove the existence and give the precise location of the MEs for these models.

Duality between two generalized Aubry-Andre models with exact mobility edges

A mobility edge (ME) in energy separating extended from localized states is a central concept in understanding various fundamental phenomena like the metal-insulator transition in disordered systems. In one-dimensional quasiperiodic systems, there exist a few models with exact MEs, and these models are beneficial to provide exact understanding of ME physics. Here we investigate two widely studied models including exact MEs, one with an exponential hopping and one with a special form of incommensurate on-site potential. We analytically prove that the two models are mutually dual, and further give the numerical verification by calculating the inverse participation ratio and Husimi function. The exact MEs of the two models are also obtained by calculating the localization lengths and using the duality relations. Our result may provide insight into realizing and observing exact MEs in both theory and experiment.

Exact non-Hermitian mobility edges in one-dimensional quasicrystal lattice with exponentially decaying hopping and its dual lattice

We analytically determine the non-Hermitian mobility edges of a one-dimensional quasiperiodic lattice model with exponential decaying hopping and complex potentials as well as its dual model, which is just a non-Hermitian generalization of the Ganeshan-Pixley-Das Sarma model with nonreciprocal nearest-neighboring hopping. The presence of non-Hermitian term destroys the self-duality symmetry and thus prevents us exploring the localization-delocalization point through looking for self-dual points. Nevertheless, by applying Avila's global theory, the Lyapunov exponent of the Ganeshan-Pixley-Das Sarma model can be exactly derived, which enables us to get an analytical expression of mobility edge of the non-Hermitian dual model. Consequently, the mobility edge of the original model is obtained by using the dual transformation, which creates exact mappings between the spectra and wavefunctions of these two models.

Uplink Transmission Design for Crowded Correlated Cell-Free Massive MIMO-OFDM Systems

In cell-free massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, user equipments (UEs) are served by many distributed access points (APs), where channels are correlated due to finite angle-delay spread in realistic outdoor wireless propagation environments. Meanwhile, the number of UEs is growing rapidly for future fully networked society. In this paper, we focus on the uplink transmission design in crowded correlated cell-free massive MIMO-OFDM systems with limited number of orthogonal pilots. For the pilot transmission phase, we identify active UEs based on non-orthogonal pilot phase shift hopping patterns and non-orthogonal adjustable phase shift pilots (APSP). We derive a closed-form expression of mean square error of channel estimation (MSE-CE) and obtain an optimal condition for minimizing MSE-CE. According to this condition, the APSP set allocation scheme is proposed. Furthermore, for the data transmission, the max-min power control algorithm is devised to maximize the minimum spectral efficiency (SE) lower bound among active UEs. Simulation results indicate significant performance gains in terms of MSE-CE for the proposed APSP set allocation scheme. The proposed power control scheme can further improve the minimum SE among active UEs. Hence, they are crucial for crowded correlated cell-free massive MIMO-OFDM systems.

Coexistence of zero Lyapunov exponent and positive Lyapunov exponent for new quasi-periodic Schr$\ddot{o}$dinger operator

In this paper we solve a problem about the Schr$\ddot{o}$dinger operator with potential $v(θ)=2λcos2πθ/(1-αcos2πθ),\ (|α|<1)$ in physics. With the help of the formula of Lyapunov exponent in the spectrum, the coexistence of zero Lyapunov exponent and positive Lyapunov exponent for some parameters is first proved, and there exists a curve that separates them. The spectrum in the region of positive Lyapunov exponent is purely pure point spectrum with exponentially decaying eigenfunctions for almost every frequency and almost every phase. From the research, we realize that the infinite potential $v(θ)=2λtan^2(πθ)$ has zero Lyapunov exponent for some energies if $0<|λ|<1$.

Large Intelligent Surface Aided Physical Layer Security Transmission

In this paper, we investigate a large intelligent surface-enhanced (LIS-enhanced) system, where a LIS is deployed to assist secure transmission. Our design aims to maximize the achievable secrecy rates in different channel models, i.e., Rician fading and (or) independent and identically distributed Gaussian fading for the legitimate and eavesdropper channels. In addition, we take into consideration an artificial noise-aided transmission structure for further improving system performance. The difficulties of tackling the aforementioned problems are the structure of the expected secrecy rate expressions and the non-convex phase shift constraint. To facilitate the design, we propose two frameworks, namely the sample average approximation based (SAA-based) algorithm and the hybrid stochastic projected gradient-convergent policy (hybrid SPG-CP) algorithm, to calculate the expectation terms in the secrecy rate expressions. Meanwhile, majorization minimization (MM) is adopted to address the non-convexity of the phase shift constraint. In addition, we give some analyses on two special scenarios by making full use of the expectation terms. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithms effectively optimize the secrecy communication rate for the considered setup, and the LIS-enhanced system greatly improves secrecy performance compared to conventional architectures without LIS.

Topological semimetal state and field-induced Fermi surface reconstruction in antiferromagnetic monopnictide NdSb

We report the experimental realization of Dirac semimetal state in NdSb, a material with antiferromagnetic ground state. The occurrence of topological semimetal state has been well supported by our band structure calculations and the experimental observation of chiral anomaly induced negative magnetoresistance. A field-induced Fermi surface reconstruction is observed, in response to the change of spin polarization. The observation of topological semimetal state in a magnetic material provides an opportunity to investigate the magneto-topological phenomena.

Single Crystal Growth of the New Pressure-induced-superconductor CrAs via Chemical Vapor Transport

Mono-arsenide CrAs, endures a helical anti-ferromagnetic order transition at~ 265 K under ambient pressure. Recently, pressure-induced-superconductivity was discovered vicinity to the helical anti-ferromagnetic order in CrAs[Wei Wu et al., Nature Communications 5, 5508 (2014).]. However, the size of crystal grown via tin flux method is as small as 1 mm in longest dimension. In this work, we report the single crystal growth of CrAs with size of 1 * 5 * 1 mm3 via chemical vapor transport method and its physical properties.
