Small sets of genuinely nonlocal GHZ states in multipartite systems

A set of orthogonal multipartite quantum states are called (distinguishability-based) genuinely nonlocal if they are locally indistinguishable across any bipartition of the subsystems. In this work, we consider the problem of constructing small genuinely nonlocal sets consisting of generalized GHZ states in multipartite systems. For system (C^2)^(\otimes N) where N is large, using the language of group theory, we show that a tiny proportion Θ[1/2^(N/2)] of the states among the N-qubit GHZ basis suffice to exhibit genuine nonlocality. Similar arguments also hold for the canonical generalized GHZ bases in systems (C^d)^(\otimes N), wherever d is even and N is large. What is more, moving to the condition that any fixed N is given, we show that d + 1 genuinely nonlocal generalized GHZ states exist in (C^d)^(\otimes N), provided the local dimension d is sufficiently large. As an additional merit, within and beyond an asymptotic sense, the latter result also indicates some evident limitations of the "trivial othogonality-preserving local measurements" (TOPLM) technique that has been utilized frequently for detecting genuine nonlocality.

Block designs with $\gcd(r,λ)=1$ admitting flag-transitive automorphism groups

In this paper, we present a classification of $2$-designs with $\gcd(r,λ)=1$ admitting flag-transitive automorphism groups. If $G$ is a flag-transitive automorphism group of a non-trivial $2$-design $\mathcal{D}$ with $\gcd(r,λ)=1$, then either $(\mathcal{D},G)$ is one of the known examples described in this paper, or $\mathcal{D}$ has $q = p^{d}$ points with $p$ prime and $G$ is a subgroup of $AΓL_{1}(q)$.

Flag-transitive non-symmetric $2$-designs with $(r,λ)=1$ and exceptional groups of Lie type

This paper determined all pairs $(\mathcal{D},G)$ where $\mathcal{D}$ is a non-symmetric 2-$(v,k,λ)$ design with $(r,λ)=1$ and $G$ is the almost simple flag-transitive automorphism group of $\mathcal{D}$ with an exceptional socle of Lie type. We prove that if $T\trianglelefteq G\leq Aut(T)$ where $T$ is an exceptional group of Lie type, then $T$ must be the Ree group or Suzuki group, and there are five classes of non-isomorphic designs $\mathcal{D}$.

Single DNA conformations and biological function

From a nanoscience perspective, cellular processes and their reduced in vitro imitations provide extraordinary examples for highly robust few or single molecule reaction pathways. A prime example are biochemical reactions involving DNA molecules, and the coupling of these reactions to the physical conformations of DNA. In this review, we summarise recent results on the following phenomena: We investigate the biophysical properties of DNA-looping and the equilibrium configurations of DNA-knots, whose relevance to biological processes are increasingly appreciated. We discuss how random DNA-looping may be related to the efficiency of the target search process of proteins for their specific binding site on the DNA molecule. And we dwell on the spontaneous formation of intermittent DNA nanobubbles and their importance for biological processes, such as transcription initiation. The physical properties of DNA may indeed turn out to be particularly suitable for the use of DNA in nanosensing applications.
