Precognition in Task-oriented Dialogue Understanding: Posterior Regularization by Future Context

Task-oriented dialogue systems have become overwhelmingly popular in recent researches. Dialogue understanding is widely used to comprehend users' intent, emotion and dialogue state in task-oriented dialogue systems. Most previous works on such discriminative tasks only models current query or historical conversations. Even if in some work the entire dialogue flow was modeled, it is not suitable for the real-world task-oriented conversations as the future contexts are not visible in such cases. In this paper, we propose to jointly model historical and future information through the posterior regularization method. More specifically, by modeling the current utterance and past contexts as prior, and the entire dialogue flow as posterior, we optimize the KL distance between these distributions to regularize our model during training. And only historical information is used for inference. Extensive experiments on two dialogue datasets validate the effectiveness of our proposed method, achieving superior results compared with all baseline models.

HeteroQA: Learning towards Question-and-Answering through Multiple Information Sources via Heterogeneous Graph Modeling

Community Question Answering (CQA) is a well-defined task that can be used in many scenarios, such as E-Commerce and online user community for special interests. In these communities, users can post articles, give comment, raise a question and answer it. These data form the heterogeneous information sources where each information source have their own special structure and context (comments attached to an article or related question with answers). Most of the CQA methods only incorporate articles or Wikipedia to extract knowledge and answer the user's question. However, various types of information sources in the community are not fully explored by these CQA methods and these multiple information sources (MIS) can provide more related knowledge to user's questions. Thus, we propose a question-aware heterogeneous graph transformer to incorporate the MIS in the user community to automatically generate the answer. To evaluate our proposed method, we conduct the experiments on two datasets: $\text{MSM}^{\text{plus}}$ the modified version of benchmark dataset MS-MARCO and the AntQA dataset which is the first large-scale CQA dataset with four types of MIS. Extensive experiments on two datasets show that our model outperforms all the baselines in terms of all the metrics.

S+PAGE: A Speaker and Position-Aware Graph Neural Network Model for Emotion Recognition in Conversation

Emotion recognition in conversation (ERC) has attracted much attention in recent years for its necessity in widespread applications. Existing ERC methods mostly model the self and inter-speaker context separately, posing a major issue for lacking enough interaction between them. In this paper, we propose a novel Speaker and Position-Aware Graph neural network model for ERC (S+PAGE), which contains three stages to combine the benefits of both Transformer and relational graph convolution network (R-GCN) for better contextual modeling. Firstly, a two-stream conversational Transformer is presented to extract the coarse self and inter-speaker contextual features for each utterance. Then, a speaker and position-aware conversation graph is constructed, and we propose an enhanced R-GCN model, called PAG, to refine the coarse features guided by a relative positional encoding. Finally, both of the features from the former two stages are input into a conditional random field layer to model the emotion transfer.

RIO: Rotation-equivariance supervised learning of robust inertial odometry

This paper introduces rotation-equivariance as a self-supervisor to train inertial odometry models. We demonstrate that the self-supervised scheme provides a powerful supervisory signal at training phase as well as at inference stage. It reduces the reliance on massive amounts of labeled data for training a robust model and makes it possible to update the model using various unlabeled data. Further, we propose adaptive Test-Time Training (TTT) based on uncertainty estimations in order to enhance the generalizability of the inertial odometry to various unseen data. We show in experiments that the Rotation-equivariance-supervised Inertial Odometry (RIO) trained with 30% data achieves on par performance with a model trained with the whole database. Adaptive TTT improves models performance in all cases and makes more than 25% improvements under several scenarios.

Mining the Benefits of Two-stage and One-stage HOI Detection

Two-stage methods have dominated Human-Object Interaction (HOI) detection for several years. Recently, one-stage HOI detection methods have become popular. In this paper, we aim to explore the essential pros and cons of two-stage and one-stage methods. With this as the goal, we find that conventional two-stage methods mainly suffer from positioning positive interactive human-object pairs, while one-stage methods are challenging to make an appropriate trade-off on multi-task learning, i.e., object detection, and interaction classification. Therefore, a core problem is how to take the essence and discard the dregs from the conventional two types of methods. To this end, we propose a novel one-stage framework with disentangling human-object detection and interaction classification in a cascade manner. In detail, we first design a human-object pair generator based on a state-of-the-art one-stage HOI detector by removing the interaction classification module or head and then design a relatively isolated interaction classifier to classify each human-object pair. Two cascade decoders in our proposed framework can focus on one specific task, detection or interaction classification. In terms of the specific implementation, we adopt a transformer-based HOI detector as our base model. The newly introduced disentangling paradigm outperforms existing methods by a large margin, with a significant relative mAP gain of 9.32% on HICO-Det. Small Signal Analysis of SQUID Direct Readout Schemes

To better understand the working principles of Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) direct readout schemes, which work in different bias and amplifier modes with different internal feedback schemes, we present the complete circuit analyses on SQUID small-signal model. SQUID bias and amplifier circuits are analyzed using SQUID Thevenin equivalent circuit, and the general equivalent circuit of SQUID with different internal feedback schemes is derived and analyzed with a trans-impedance amplifier model. Transfer characteristics and noise performances of different direct readout schemes are analyzed and experimentally characterized. It is shown that amplifier noise suppression is only dependent on SQUID flux-to-voltage transfer coefficient and is irrelevant to the configuration of bias and amplifier; SQUID with an internal feedback scheme improves the transfer coefficient with voltage feedback and regulates the dynamic resistance with current feedback.

Relation Aware Semi-autoregressive Semantic Parsing for NL2SQL

Natural language to SQL (NL2SQL) aims to parse a natural language with a given database into a SQL query, which widely appears in practical Internet applications. Jointly encode database schema and question utterance is a difficult but important task in NL2SQL. One solution is to treat the input as a heterogeneous graph. However, it failed to learn good word representation in question utterance. Learning better word representation is important for constructing a well-designed NL2SQL system. To solve the challenging task, we present a Relation aware Semi-autogressive Semantic Parsing (\MODN) ~framework, which is more adaptable for NL2SQL. It first learns relation embedding over the schema entities and question words with predefined schema relations with ELECTRA and relation aware transformer layer as backbone. Then we decode the query SQL with a semi-autoregressive parser and predefined SQL syntax. From empirical results and case study, our model shows its effectiveness in learning better word representation in NL2SQL.

Mining geometric constraints from crowd-sourced radio signals and its application to indoor positioning

Crowd-sourcing has become a promising way to build} a feature-based indoor positioning system that has lower labour and time costs. It can make full use of the widely deployed infrastructure as well as built-in sensors on mobile devices. One of the key challenges is to generate the reference feature map (RFM), a database used for localization, by {aligning crowd-sourced {trajectories according to associations embodied in the data. In order to facilitate the data fusion using crowd-sourced inertial sensors and radio signals, this paper proposes an approach to adaptively mining geometric information. This is the essential for generating spatial associations between trajectories when employing graph-based optimization methods. The core idea is to estimate the functional relationship to map the similarity/dissimilarity between radio signals to the physical space based on the relative positions obtained from inertial sensors and their associated radio signals. Namely, it is adaptable to different modalities of data and can be implemented in a self-supervised way. We verify the generality of the proposed approach through comprehensive experimental analysis: i) qualitatively comparing the estimation of geometric mapping models and the alignment of crowd-sourced trajectories; ii) quantitatively evaluating the positioning performance. The 68\% of the positioning error is less than 4.7 $\mathrm{m}$ using crowd-sourced RFM, which is on a par with manually collected RFM, in a multi-storey shopping mall, which covers more than 10, 000 $ \mathrm{m}^2 $.

Improve Diverse Text Generation by Self Labeling Conditional Variational Auto Encoder

Diversity plays a vital role in many text generating applications. In recent years, Conditional Variational Auto Encoders (CVAE) have shown promising performances for this task. However, they often encounter the so called KL-Vanishing problem. Previous works mitigated such problem by heuristic methods such as strengthening the encoder or weakening the decoder while optimizing the CVAE objective function. Nevertheless, the optimizing direction of these methods are implicit and it is hard to find an appropriate degree to which these methods should be applied. In this paper, we propose an explicit optimizing objective to complement the CVAE to directly pull away from KL-vanishing. In fact, this objective term guides the encoder towards the "best encoder" of the decoder to enhance the expressiveness. A labeling network is introduced to estimate the "best encoder". It provides a continuous label in the latent space of CVAE to help build a close connection between latent variables and targets. The whole proposed method is named Self Labeling CVAE~(SLCVAE). To accelerate the research of diverse text generation, we also propose a large native one-to-many dataset. Extensive experiments are conducted on two tasks, which show that our method largely improves the generating diversity while achieving comparable accuracy compared with state-of-art algorithms.

Orthogonal Weight Normalization: Solution to Optimization over Multiple Dependent Stiefel Manifolds in Deep Neural Networks

Orthogonal matrix has shown advantages in training Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs), but such matrix is limited to be square for the hidden-to-hidden transformation in RNNs. In this paper, we generalize such square orthogonal matrix to orthogonal rectangular matrix and formulating this problem in feed-forward Neural Networks (FNNs) as Optimization over Multiple Dependent Stiefel Manifolds (OMDSM). We show that the rectangular orthogonal matrix can stabilize the distribution of network activations and regularize FNNs. We also propose a novel orthogonal weight normalization method to solve OMDSM. Particularly, it constructs orthogonal transformation over proxy parameters to ensure the weight matrix is orthogonal and back-propagates gradient information through the transformation during training. To guarantee stability, we minimize the distortions between proxy parameters and canonical weights over all tractable orthogonal transformations. In addition, we design an orthogonal linear module (OLM) to learn orthogonal filter banks in practice, which can be used as an alternative to standard linear module. Extensive experiments demonstrate that by simply substituting OLM for standard linear module without revising any experimental protocols, our method largely improves the performance of the state-of-the-art networks, including Inception and residual networks on CIFAR and ImageNet datasets. In particular, we have reduced the test error of wide residual network on CIFAR-100 from 20.04% to 18.61% with such simple substitution. Our code is available online for result reproduction.

Direct Data Domain STAP using Sparse Representation of Clutter Spectrum

Space-time adaptive processing (STAP) is an effective tool for detecting a moving target in the airborne radar system. Due to the fast-changing clutter scenario and/or non side-looking configuration, the stationarity of the training data is destroyed such that the statistical-based methods suffer performance degradation. Direct data domain (D3) methods avoid non-stationary training data and can effectively suppress the clutter within the test cell. However, this benefit comes at the cost of a reduced system degree of freedom (DOF), which results in performance loss. In this paper, by exploiting the intrinsic sparsity of the spectral distribution, a new direct data domain approach using sparse representation (D3SR) is proposed, which seeks to estimate the high-resolution space-time spectrum with only the test cell. The simulation of both side-looking and non side-looking cases has illustrated the effectiveness of the D3SR spectrum estimation using focal underdetermined system solution (FOCUSS) and norm minimization. Then the clutter covariance matrix (CCM) and the corresponding adaptive filter can be effectively obtained. Since D3SR maintains the full system DOF, it can achieve better performance of output signal-clutter-ratio (SCR) and minimum detectable velocity (MDV) than current D3 methods, e.g., direct data domain least squares (D3LS). Thus D3SR is more effective against the range-dependent clutter and interference in the non-stationary clutter scenario.
