Soliton, breathers, positons and rogue waves for the vector complex modified Korteweg-de Vries equation

This paper constructs the $N$-fold Darboux transformation (DT) for the vector complex modified Korteweg-de Vries (vcmKdV) equation and presents its determinant representation. Utilizing the DT and multi-fold eigenvalue degeneracy, we derive globally bounded solutions for the vcmKdV equation, including $N$-bright-bright-bright solitons, $N$-dark-bright-bright solitons, $N$-breathers, $N$-positon solutions, and $N$th-order rogue wave solutions." All these solutions are globally bounded. Graphical representations of bright-bright-bright and dark-bright-bright soliton solutions are provided, illustrating phenomena where periodic oscillatory waves coexist or interact with solitons. The collision scenarios of the two-bright-bright-bright solution have been investigated by using the asymptotic analysis. The bounded Akhmediev breather, the bounded breather with dark-bright soliton and breather-breather mixed waves are graphically shown. We give the graphs of the positon solution, the rogue wave and the rogue wave mixes with dark-bright solitons and breathers.

ET White Paper: To Find the First Earth 2.0

We propose to develop a wide-field and ultra-high-precision photometric survey mission, temporarily named "Earth 2.0 (ET)". This mission is designed to measure, for the first time, the occurrence rate and the orbital distributions of Earth-sized planets. ET consists of seven 30cm telescopes, to be launched to the Earth-Sun's L2 point. Six of these are transit telescopes with a field of view of 500 square degrees. Staring in the direction that encompasses the original Kepler field for four continuous years, this monitoring will return tens of thousands of transiting planets, including the elusive Earth twins orbiting solar-type stars. The seventh telescope is a 30cm microlensing telescope that will monitor an area of 4 square degrees toward the galactic bulge. This, combined with simultaneous ground-based KMTNet observations, will measure masses for hundreds of long-period and free-floating planets. Together, the transit and the microlensing telescopes will revolutionize our understandings of terrestrial planets across a large swath of orbital distances and free space. In addition, the survey data will also facilitate studies in the fields of asteroseismology, Galactic archeology, time-domain sciences, and black holes in binaries.

Higher-order rogue wave dynamics for a derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation

The the mixed Chen-Lee-Liu derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation (CLL-NLS) can be considered as simplest model to approximate the dynamics of weakly nonlinear and dispersive waves, taking into account the self-steepnening effect (SSE). The latter effect arises as a higher-order correction of the nonlinear Schrördinger equation (NLS), which is known to describe the dynamics of pulses in nonlinear fiber optics, and constiutes a fundamental part of the generalized NLS. Similar effects are decribed within the framework of the modified NLS, also referred to as the Dysthe equation, in hydrodynamics. In this work, we derive fundamental and higher-order solutions of the CLL-NLS by applying the Darboux transformation (DT). Exact expressions of non-vanishing boundary solitons, breathers and a hierarchy of rogue wave solutions are presented. In addition, we discuss the localization characters of such rogue waves, by characterizing their length and width. In particular, we describe how the localization properties of first-order NLS rogue waves can be modified by taking into account the SSE, presented in the CLL-NLS. This is illustrated by use of an analytical and a graphical method. The results may motivate similar analytical studies, extending the family of the reported rogue wave solutions as well as possible experiments in several nonlinear dispersive media, confirming these theoretical results.

Theoretical and experimental evidence of non-symmetric doubly localized rogue waves

We present determinant expressions for vector rogue wave solutions of the Manakov system, a two-component coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equation. As special case, we generate a family of exact and non-symmetric rogue wave solutions of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation up to third-order, localized in both space and time. The derived non-symmetric doubly-localized second-order solution is generated experimentally in a water wave flume for deep-water conditions. Experimental results, confirming the characteristic non-symmetric pattern of the solution, are in very good agreement with theory as well as with numerical simulations, based on the modified nonlinear Schrödinger equation, known to model accurately the dynamics of weakly nonlinear wave packets in deep-water.

The higher order Rogue Wave solutions of the Gerdjikov-Ivanov equation

We construct higher order rogue wave solutions for the Gerdjikov-Ivanov equation explicitly in term of determinant expression. Dynamics of both soliton and non-soliton solutions is discussed. A family of solutions with distinct structures are presented, which are new to the Gerdjikov-Ivanov equation.
