Gauge hierarchy problem, supersymmetry and fermionic symmetry

We reconsider the gauge hierarchy problem from the viewpoint of effective field theories and a high-energy physics, motivated by the alternative scenario that the standard model holds up to a high-energy scale such as the Planck scale. The problem is restated as the question whether it is possible to construct a low-energy effective theory and the interaction with heavy particles, without spoiling the structure of a high-energy physics supported by an excellent concept. Based on this reinterpretation, we give a conjecture that theories with hidden fermionic symmetries can be free from the gauge hierarchy problem and become candidates of the physics beyond and/or behind the standard model, and present toy models with particle-ghost symmetries as illustrative examples and a prototype model for the grand unification.

Inflation from radion gauge-Higgs potential at Planck scale

We study whether the inflation is realized based on the radion gauge-Higgs potential obtained from the one-loop calculation in the 5-dimensional gravity coupled to a $U(1)$ gauge theory. We show that the gauge-Higgs can give rise to inflation in accord with the astrophysical data and the radion plays a role in fixing the values of physical parameters. We clarify the reason why the radion dominated inflation and the hybrid inflation cannot occur in our framework.

Local particle-ghost symmetry

We study the quantization of systems with local particle-ghost symmetries. The systems contain ordinary particles including gauge bosons and their counterparts obeying different statistics. The particle-ghost symmetry is a kind of fermionic symmetry, different from the space-time supersymmetry and the BRST symmetry. Subsidiary conditions on states guarantee the unitarity of systems.

Finiteness, duality, and fermionic symmetry

We propose a framework for a new type of finite field theories based on a hidden duality between an ultra-violet and an infra-red region. Physical quantities do not receive radiative corrections at a fundamental scale or the fixed point of the duality transformation, and this feature is compatible with models possessing a specific fermionic symmetry. Theories can be tested indirectly by relations among parameters, reflecting underlying symmetries.

Quantization of systems with $OSp(2|2)$ symmetry

We study the quantization of systems that contain both ordinary fields with a positive norm and their counterparts obeying different statistics. The systems have novel fermionic symmetries different from the space-time supersymmetry and the BRST symmetry. The unitarity of systems holds by imposing subsidiary conditions on states.

Fermionic scalar field

We reexamine the connection between spin and statistics through the quantization of a complex scalar field, using the formulation with the property that the hermitian conjugate of canonical momentum for a variable is just the canonical momentum for the hermitian conjugate of the variable. Starting from an ordinary Lagrangian density and imposing the anti-commutation relations on the field, we find that the difficulty stems from not the ill-definiteness (or unboundedness) of the energy and the breakdown of the causality but the appearance of states with negative norms. It is overcome by introducing an ordinary scalar field to form a doublet of fermionic symmetries, although the system becomes empty leaving the vacuum state alone. These features also hold for the system with a spinor field imposing the commutation relations on.

Radion stabilization in the presence of Wilson line phase

We study the stabilization of an extra-dimensional radius in the presence of a Wilson line phase of an extra $U(1)$ gauge symmetry on a five-dimensional space-time, using the effective potential relating both the radion and the Wilson line phase at the one-loop level. We find that the radion can be stabilized by the introduction of a small number of fermions.

Family number, Wilson line phases and hidden supersymmetry

We study the relationship between the family number of chiral fermions and the Wilson line phases, based on the orbifold family unification. We find that flavor numbers are independent of the Wilson line phases relating extra-dimensional components of gauge bosons, as far as the standard model gauge symmetry is respected. This feature originates from a hidden quantum-mechanical supersymmetry.

Naturalness, Conformal Symmetry and Duality

We reconsider the naturalness from the viewpoint of effective field theories, motivated by the alternative scenario that the standard model holds until a high-energy scale such as the Planck scale. We propose a calculation scheme of radiative corrections utilizing a hidden duality, in the expectation that the unnaturalness for scalar masses might be an artifact in the effective theory and it could be improved if features of an ultimate theory are taken in.

Hidden Nambu mechanics - A variant formulation of Hamiltonian systems -

We propose a variant formulation of Hamiltonian systems by the use of variables including redundant degrees of freedom. We show that Hamiltonian systems can be described by extended dynamics whose master equation is the Nambu equation or its generalization. Partition functions associated with the extended dynamics in many degrees of freedom systems are given. Our formulation can also be applied to Hamiltonian systems with first class constraints.

Orbifold Family Unification on 6 Dimensions

We study the possibility of family unification on the basis of SU(N) gauge theory on the 6-dimensional space-time, $M^4\times T^2/Z_N$. We obtain enormous numbers of models with three families of SU(5) matter multiplets and those with three families of the standard model multiplets, from a single massless Dirac fermion with a higher-dimensional representation of SU(N), through the orbifold breaking mechanism.

Tera Scale Remnants of Unification and Supersymmetry at Planck Scale

We predict new particles at the Tera scale based on the assumptions that the standard model gauge interactions are unified around the gravitational scale with a big desert and new particles originate from hypermultiplets as remnants of supersymmetry, and propose a theoretical framework at the Tera scale and beyond, that has predictability.

SUSY Breaking from Exotic U(1)

We propose a mechanism that the soft supersymmetry breaking masses can be induced from the dynamical rearrangement of local U(1) symmetry in a five-dimensional model. The U(1) symmetry possesses several extraordinary features. The eigenstates of U(1) do not equal to those of boundary conditions. The U(1) charge of standard model particles does not equal to that of superpartners. A large U(1) charge hierarchy among superpartners and a standard model gauge singlet is necessary in order to obtain the masses of O(1)TeV.

Soft Supersymmetry Breaking Masses and $μ$ Parameter from Dynamical Rearrangement of Exotic U(1) Symmetries

We propose a mechanism that the soft supersymmetry breaking masses and $μ$ parameter can be induced from the dynamical rearrangement of local U(1) symmetries in a five-dimensional model. It offers to a solution of $μ$ problem if there is a large hierarchy among the relevant U(1) charge of Higgsinos and that of hidden fields which stabilize the extra-dimensional component of U(1) gauge boson.

Limitation on Magnitude of $D$-components

We study the magnitude of $D$-components in a generic supersymmetric field theory. There exists $F$-component whose vacuum expectation value is comparable to or bigger than that of $D$-component, in the absence of Fayet-Iliopoulos term, the large hierarchy in the charge spectrum and strongly interacting higher-dimensional couplings in the Kähler potential, if contributions from other terms than $F$ and $D$-terms are negligible.

Fermion Mass Hierarchy in Lifshitz Type Gauge Theory

We study the origin of fermion mass hierarchy and flavor mixing in a Lifshitz type extension of the standard model including an extra scalar field. We show that the hierarchical structure can originate from renormalizable interactions. In contrast to the Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism, the higher the dimension of associated operators, the heavier the fermion masses. Tiny masses for left-handed neutrinos are obtained without introducing right-handed neutrinos.
