Low-energy excitations of the Hubbard model on the Kagomé lattice

The Hubbard model on the Kagomé lattice is investigated in a metallic phase at half-filling. By introducing anisotropic electron hopping on the lattice, we control geometrical frustration and clarify how the lattice geometry affects physical properties. By means of the fluctuation exchange (FLEX) approximation, we calculate the spin and charge susceptibilities, the one-particle spectral function, the quasi-particle renormalization factor, and the Fermi velocity. It is found that geometrical frustration of the Kagomé lattice suppresses the instability to various ordered states through the strong reduction of the wavevector dependence of susceptibilities, thereby stabilizing the formation of quasi-particles due to the almost isotropic spin fluctuations in the Brillouin zone. These characteristic properties are discussed in connection with the effects of geometrical frustration in the strong coupling regime.

Effects of degenerate orbitals on the Hubbard model

Stability of a metallic state in the two-orbital Hubbard model at half-filling is investigated. We clarify how spin and orbital fluctuations are enhanced to stabilize the formation of quasi-particles by combining dynamical mean field theory with the quantum Monte Carlo simulations. These analyses shed some light on the reason why the metallic phase is particularly stable when the intra- and inter-band Coulomb interactions are nearly equal.

Stability of a metallic state in the two-orbital Hubbard model

Electron correlations in the two-orbital Hubbard model at half-filling are investigated by combining dynamical mean field theory with the exact diagonalization method. We systematically study how the interplay of the intra- and inter-band Coulomb interactions, together with the Hund coupling, affects the metal-insulator transition. It is found that if the intra- and inter-band Coulomb interactions are nearly equal, the Fermi-liquid state is stabilized due to orbital fluctuations up to fairly large interactions, while the system is immediately driven to the Mott insulating phase away from this condition. The effects of the isotropic and anisotropic Hund coupling are also addressed.

Electron Transport through T-Shaped Double-Dots System

Correlation effects on electron transport through a system of T-shaped double-dots are investigated, for which only one of the dots is directly connected to the leads. We evaluate the local density of states and the conductance by means of the non-crossing approximation at finite temperatures as well as the slave-boson mean field approximation at zero temperature. It is found that the dot which is not directly connected to the leads considerably influences the conductance, making its behavior quite different from the case of a single-dot system. In particular, we find a novel phenomenon in the Kondo regime with a small inter-dot coupling, i.e. Fano-like suppression of the Kondo-mediated conductance, when two dot levels coincide with each other energetically.

Spectral functions in itinerant electron systems with geometrical frustration

The Hubbard model with geometrical frustration is investigated in a metallic phase close to half-filling. We calculate the single particle spectral function for the triangular lattice within dynamical cluster approximation, which is further combined with non-crossing approximation and fluctuation exchange approximation to treat the resulting cluster Anderson model. It is shown that frustration due to non-local correlations suppresses short-range antiferromagnetic fluctuations and thereby assists the formation of heavy quasi-particles near half-filling.

Heavy Quasi-Particle in the Two-Orbital Hubbard Model

The two-orbital Hubbard model with the Hund coupling is investigated in a metallic phase close to the Mott insulator. We calculate the one-particle spectral function and the optical conductivity within dynamical mean field theory, for which the effective impurity problem is solved by using the non-crossing approximation. For a metallic system close to quarter filling, a heavy quasi-particle band is formed by the Hubbard interaction, the effective mass of which is not so sensitive to the orbital splitting and the Hund coupling. In contrast, a heavy quasi-particle band near half filling disappears in the presence of the orbital splitting, but is induced again by the introduction of the Hund coupling, resulting in a different type of heavy quasi-particles.

Correlation Effects on the Double Exchange Model in a Ferromagnetic Metallic Phase

The effect of the Hubbard interaction among conduction electrons on the double exchange model is investigated in a ferromagnetic metallic phase. Applying iterative perturbation theory to the Hubbard interaction within dynamical mean field theory, we calculate the one-particle spectral function and the optical conductivity, in which coherent-potential approximation is further used to treat the ferromagnetic Hund coupling between conduction electrons and localized spins. Identifying the decrease of the magnetization for the localized spin with the increase of the temperature, we discuss the temperature dependence of the one-particle spectrum and the optical conductivity. It is found that the interplay between the Hund coupling and the Hubbard interaction dramatically changes the spectral function, while it is somehow obscured in the optical conductivity.
