PEGASUS (Pfs Emission-line GAlaxy SUrvey with Subaru): II. Metal Poor AGNs in High Equivalent-Width Narrow-Band Emitters

We present Subaru 'Ōnohi'ula Prime Focus Spectrograph (PFS) optical--NIR spectroscopic follow-up of high-equivalent-width (EW) narrow-band (NB) emission-line galaxies selected from Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program, to assess whether high-EW sources preferentially host low-metallicity AGNs. PFS spectroscopy yielded secure identifications for 583 targets, including 581 sources with reliable PFS redshift solutions and two manually identified $z\sim4$ interlopers. We construct BPT diagnostics for the 70 objects with significant detections in all four BPT lines. Among them, $\sim34\%$ are located in the AGN region of the BPT diagram, suggesting that AGNs constitute a significant fraction of the sample. A non-negligible fraction does not populate the classical AGN branch; instead, it lies in the intermediate ``valley'' between the star-forming and AGN sequences. Comparison to Cloudy models suggests that the valley population is consistent with sub-solar metallicities. Three He II/[Ne V]-detected sources are also found in the star-forming region of the BPT diagram and extend to lower-metallicity solutions, consistent with $Z/Z_{\odot}\approx0.25-0.5$ ($12+\log({\rm O/H})\approx8.1-8.4$). One object shows a clear broad H$α$ component; a multi-component fit yields $M_{\rm BH}\approx8.8\times10^{6} M_{\odot}$ and $λ_{\rm Edd}\approx0.035$, consistent with near-solar narrow-line region metallicity. The fraction of point-like sources in the parent target sample ($22\%\pm2\%$) is intermediate between those of star-forming galaxies ($12\%\pm5\%$) and AGN ($33\%\pm10\%$), consistent with a contribution from compact components. Stacked [O III] line profiles show no clear evidence for strong outflows. Our findings suggest that high-EW NB selection efficiently identifies candidates for metal-poor AGNs.

$\textit{Nāpōwawā`enakaulua}$: a close quasar pair at cosmic dawn in the Aether survey

We present the discovery and first characterization of $\textit{Nāpōwawā`enakaulua}$: the most compact known quasar pair candidate in the Epoch of Reionization, with a projected separation of only $0.98^{\prime\prime}$ ($\approx 5.56$ pkpc at $z \sim 6.08$) and a velocity offset of $Δv \simeq 15 \text{ km s}^{-1}$. Using spectroscopy from JWST/NIRSpec IFU, as part of the $\textit{Aether survey}$, Gemini/GNIRS and GMOS we characterize the continuum and emission line properties of the two quasars, enabling constraints on their black hole masses ($M_{\text{BH}} \simeq 1.5 \times 10^9$ and $4.0 \times 10^8\,M_\odot$), accretion states ($λ_{\text{Edd}} \simeq 1.23$ and $1.07$), and systemic redshifts ($z_{\rm sys} \simeq 6.0781$ and $6.0785$). We place this pair in the cosmological context by comparing the chance of occurrence to extrapolations of high-$z$ quasar clustering measurements at larger scales, resulting in a $\sim 2-3$ order of magnitude excess with respect to expectations. This excess hints at an underlying population of merger-triggered quasar pairs at cosmic dawn or to a denser-than-average galactic environment. $\textit{Nāpōwawā`enakaulua}$ thus represents a crucial signpost to investigate the mass assembly of the first massive galaxies and black holes.

GREX-PLUS Science Book v2

GREX-PLUS (Galaxy Reionization EXplorer and PLanetary Universe Spectrometer) is a mission candidate for a JAXA strategic L-class mission to be launched in the 2030s. Its primary science goals are two-fold: galaxy formation and evolution, and planetary system formation and evolution. The GREX-PLUS spacecraft will carry a telescope with a 1 m primary mirror aperture cooled down to 50 K. The two science instruments will be onboard: a wide-field camera in the 2--8 $μ$m wavelength band and a high-resolution spectrometer with a wavelength resolution of 30,000 in the 10--18 $μ$m band. The GREX-PLUS wide-field camera aims to detect the first generation of galaxies at redshift $z>15$. The GREX-PLUS high-resolution spectrometer aims to identify the location of the water ``snowline'' in protoplanetary disks. Both instruments will provide unique datasets for a broad range of scientific topics, including galaxy mass assembly, the origin of supermassive blackholes, infrared background radiation, molecular spectroscopy in the interstellar medium, transit spectroscopy of exoplanet atmospheres, planetary atmospheres in the Solar System, and so on. This document is the second version of a collection of scientific themes that can be achieved with GREX-PLUS. Each section in Chapters~2 and 3 is based on presentations at several GREX-PLUS Science Workshops.

Extreme Enrichment at Cosmic Dawn: Three FeII-Strong Quasars at z > 6 from the JWST Aether survey

We present three outliers on the quasar main sequence at z>6, as revealed by JWST/NIRSpec IFU observations from the Aether survey, a program targeting ~200 quasars at cosmic dawn. The quasars, J0216-5226, J0320-3521, and J1429+5447, exhibit exceptionally strong FeII emission and weak H$β$ and [OIII] lines, indicating rapid chemical enrichment within the first Gyr of cosmic history. Their FeII strengths ($R_{\rm{FeII},\lambda4570} \equiv \rm{EW}_{\rm{FeII}}/\rm{EW}_{\rm{H}β}$) range between ~2.5-3.6, placing them among the top ~3% of SDSS quasars at ($0\lesssim z\lesssim 1$). The H$α$ emission lines of J0216-5226 and J1429+5447 imply black hole masses of $\sim1-7\times10^9$ M$_{\odot}$ with $λ_{\rm{Edd}}\sim0.1-0.6$, comparable to typical high-z quasars, although virial black hole masses may be systematically overestimated in strong FeII emitters. In contrast, J0320-3521 hosts a lower mass black hole of $\sim0.2-2\times10^9$ M$_{\odot}$, suggesting possible super-Eddington rate accretion with $λ_{\rm{Edd}}$~0.5-6.0. The IFU data of J0320-3521 reveal a distinct emission-line region at a projected distance of ~1.5 kpc, consistent with either an interacting companion or ionized gas associated to the quasar. We further identify a complex environment around J1429+5447, including two candidate companion galaxies or extended ionized gas structures. These quasars with bright emission-line regions, J0320-3521 and J1429+5447, are radio-loud sources, while J0216-5226 remains undetected in radio ($R_{5\rm{GHz,} \,3σ}\lesssim4$). Together, these results confirm previous findings that highly enriched, rapidly growing black holes were already in place at cosmic dawn. Despite the small sample size, our results further highlight the diversity in environment and radio-jet properties among quasars that otherwise share the same extreme region of the quasar fundamental plane.

A Wide and Deep Exploration of Radio-detected Active Galactic Nuclei with Subaru HSC (WERGS). XIII. High-z Radio Quasar Selection from HSC--VLASS over $\sim1200$ deg$^2$

We report the results of $g-$, $r-$, $i-$, and $z-$dropout selections based on optical identifications of Very Large Array Sky Survey (VLASS) radio sources using the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program survey (HSC--SSP). By positional crossmatching within $1.''5$ between the VLASS Epoch~2 catalog and the HSC--SSP Wide-layer catalog ($i \lesssim 26$), we obtain $\sim$400 high-redshift radio AGN candidates at $z \gtrsim 4$ over a $\approx1200~\mathrm{deg}^2$ survey footprint, extending optimistically to $z \sim 7$. Their $i$-band AB magnitudes range from $i_\mathrm{AB} \simeq 24$--26, placing most below the SDSS detection limit. By further crossmatching the HSC--VLASS dropout catalog with VLA Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty-centimeters (FIRST) at 1.4~GHz, the LOFAR Two-metre Sky Survey (LoTSS) at 144~MHz, and the TIFR GMRT Sky Survey (TGSS) at 150~MHz, we obtain multi-frequency radio measurements for the majority of the sample. Approximately 85\% of the sources have three radio detections. The majority of the high-$z$ candidates show flat to moderately steep radio spectra ($-1 \lesssim α\lesssim 0$, with $f_ν\propto ν^α$), while some also exhibit turnover radio spectra, demonstrating a broad diversity of radio spectral properties among the dropout-selected candidates. SED fitting yields typical AGN bolometric luminosities of $\log(L_{\rm bol}/{\rm erg\,s^{-1}})\sim46.5$--47.5. We also find that the comoving number density declines from the $g$-dropout to the $z$-dropout regimes, with substantial decreases toward higher redshift, suggesting fewer luminous radio AGN candidates toward reionization.

Applications of Nambu Non-equilibrium Thermodynamics to Specific Phenomena

We apply Nambu non-equilibrium thermodynamics (NNET), a dynamics with multiple Hamiltonians coupled to entropy-induced dissipation, to paradigmatic far-from-equilibrium systems. Concretely, we construct NNET realizations for the Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction (oscillatory), the Hindmarsh-Rose neuron model (spiking), and the Lorenz and Chen systems (chaotic), and analyze their dynamical and thermodynamic signatures. Across all cases the velocity field cleanly decomposes into a non-dissipative Nambu part and a dissipative entropy-gradient part, anchored by a model-independent quasi-conserved quantity. This construction reproduces cycles, spikes, and strange-attractor behavior. These results demonstrate that NNET provides a unified, quantitatively consistent framework for oscillatory, spiking, and chaotic non-equilibrium systems, offering a systematic description beyond the Onsager-type near-equilibrium linear-response framework and complementary to nonlinear geometric formulations such as GENERIC.

SHELLQs. Black Hole Mass and Eddington Ratio Distributions of Intermediate-Luminosity Quasars at 6<z<7

We present near-infrared spectroscopy of 21 quasars at 6.07 < z < 6.90 obtained with JWST/NIRSpec and Subaru/MOIRCS. These targets have absolute ultraviolet magnitudes of -25 < M_1450 < -22 and are drawn from a sample of z>6 quasars identified in the Subaru High-z Exploration of Low-Luminosity Quasars (SHELLQs) project. These quasars occupy the intermediate-luminosity regime between luminous quasars and the faint high-redshift AGNs uncovered by JWST. We detect broad Balmer emission lines and MgII 2798 with underlying continua from the NIRSpec and MOIRCS targets, respectively. The virial black hole masses of this sample span a wide range of 7.2 < log M_BH/M_sun < 9.4, with Eddington ratios of -1.3 < log L_bol/L_Edd < 0.4. Combining these measurements with our previous mass estimates for other SHELLQs quasars, we construct a sample of 27 quasars with M_BH estimates at 6 < z < 7 and derive the distributions of M_BH and L_bol/L_Edd. When compared with luminosity-matched quasars at z ~ 1.3, we find median offsets of delta log M_BH/M_sun = -0.4 and Delta log L_bol/L_Edd = 0.2 in the high-redshift sample. In addition, 11% of the high-redshift quasars are accreting near or above the Eddington limit. As a systematic check, adopting the Eddington-ratio-dependent calibration of single-epoch M_BH estimates increases the inferred super-Eddington fraction to 22%. These results indicate that a representative population of distant supermassive black holes undergo a rapid accretion phase, although not as extreme as that seen in the most luminous quasar population, consistent with the anti-hierarchical growth scenario of supermassive black holes.

Electroweak Baryogenesis in Top-Philic Type-III Two-Higgs-Doublet Model motivated by the $t\bar{t}$ Excess at the LHC

The CMS and ATLAS Collaborations have reported a $t\bar{t}$ threshold enhancement possibly involving a pseudoscalar toponium quasi-bound state and an elementary pseudoscalar. Identifying the elementary pseudoscalar with the CP-odd Higgs boson, we investigate electroweak baryogenesis in the top-philic Type-III two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM), whose scalar sector may support a strong first-order electroweak phase transition. We compare two scenarios: explicit CP violation and transitional CP violation (TCPV). In the first, a complex additional top-quark Yukawa coupling induces a spatially varying phase of the top-quark mass across the bubble wall. This generates a chiral asymmetry that electroweak sphalerons convert into baryon asymmetry. In TCPV, CP symmetry would be broken inside the bubble wall but preserved in the vacuum in the absence of explicit CP violation. A small explicit CP-violating bias would favor one of the otherwise CP-conjugate wall configurations, avoiding exact cancellation of the generated baryon asymmetry. This could allow baryogenesis without large explicit CP violation, potentially alleviating electric dipole moment constraints. Combining a one-loop finite-temperature analysis of bubble nucleation with transport calculations, we find that electroweak baryogenesis with explicit CP violation remains possible, although this conclusion depends on the thermal-resummation schemes. No viable TCPV solution is found in the parameter regions explored.

Discovery of four Narrow-line Type-1 Quasars at z = 2.54 -- 6.06 with Subaru 'Onohi'ula PFS-SSP

We report the discovery of four narrow-line type-1 quasars (NLQ1s) from the Subaru 'Onohi'ula Prime Focus Spectrograph Subaru Strategic Program (PFS-SSP). To extend a comprehensive understanding of this population to the distant universe, we searched for broad-line AGNs (quasars) whose rest-UV spectral shapes resemble those of local NLS1 galaxies, utilizing the Ly$α$ line profile. We identified four NLQ1s, including one candidate, at $z=2.54$ -- $6.06$. The obtained spectra show a prominent Ly$α$ emission line with a very low continuum level. The measured full width at half maximum (FWHM) of Ly$α$ ranges from $1410 \ \mathrm{km\,s^{-1}}$ to $1510 \ \mathrm{km\,s^{-1}}$ with a mean of $\sim 1430 \,\mathrm{km\,s^{-1}}$. Although we used only line width information for the NLQ1 selection, the resulting equivalent widths (EW) of Ly$α$ are higher (the mean $\sim 190$\,Å\ in the rest frame) than the typical values of quasars. Two quasars have exceptionally large Ly$α$ luminosity, accounting for $\sim 3$ -- $4$\% of the bolometric luminosity. We measured black hole masses and Eddington ratios for three objects whose C\,\textsc{iv} line is available. The resulting black hole masses are $\sim 10^{6.9}$ -- $10^{7.7}\, M_{\odot}$ with high Eddington ratios ($> 0.1$), consistent with those of NLS1 galaxies reported in the low-$z$ universe. N\,\textsc{v} and C\,\textsc{iv} broad absorption lines are detected in one object. This quasar can be classified as a mini-BAL quasar, which further supports the idea that this NLQ1 is indeed a luminous version of an NLS1 galaxy.

Aether-SHELLQs: JWST integral-field spectroscopy of candidate obscured quasars at z ~ 6

We present James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) NIRSpec integral field unit (IFU) observations of six galaxies at $z \sim 6$, obtained as part of the Aether project (General Observers program 5645). The targets were originally identified by the Subaru High-$z$ Exploration of Low-Luminosity Quasars (SHELLQs) survey, as candidate obscured quasars with luminous ($\gtrsim10^{43}$ erg s$^{-1}$) but narrow ($\lesssim500$ km s$^{-1}$) Ly$α$ emission. Two objects exhibit a broad component in their Balmer lines (FWHM $>3000$ km s$^{-1}$), indicating the presence of active galactic nuclei (AGNs), while the remaining four show similar profiles in permitted and forbidden lines. Combining these data with similar SHELLQs objects reported previously, we find that the presence of broad lines is strongly correlated with Ly$α$ luminosity ($L_{\rm Lyα}$); the inferred AGN fraction is $>$77 % and $<$15 % above and below $L_{\rm Lyα} =10^{44}$ erg s$^{-1}$, respectively. Dust-extinction corrections inferred from the Balmer decrement would imply unrealistically high Ly$α$ luminosities, suggesting that the line-emitting gas consists of multiple zones. The IFU data reveal diverse spatial structures. The AGN hosts are compact, whereas the other galaxies show extended ionized gas on scales up to 10 kpc and star formation rates of 60 - 600 $M_\odot$ yr$^{-1}$. One of the extended objects exhibits a signature of rotation, while most of the others show little ordered kinematics, with velocity widths (FWHM) up to 200 - 300 km s$^{-1}$. These objects populate the intermediate luminosity regime between classical luminous quasars and the low-luminosity AGNs discovered by JWST, including Little Red Dots, potentially linking the two populations.

A $z \sim$ 6.2 Quasar on the Local M$_{\rm BH}$-$σ_{\rm \ast}$ Relation Quenching Its Host Galaxy from the Aether Survey

We report JWST/NIRSpec integral field unit (IFU) observations of the quasar J1512$+$4422 at $z \sim 6.2$ from the Aether survey. At $\sim$900 Myr after the Big Bang, this object already lies on the $M_{\rm BH}$-$σ_\ast$ relation found in the local universe, with an $M_{\rm BH} \simeq 8.9\times10^8\,M_\odot$ and a stellar velocity dispersion $σ_\ast \simeq 288$ km s$^{-1}$. We detect an outflow with a velocity of $\sim$478 km s$^{-1}$ in the nuclear region, which likely extends to $\sim$3.2 kpc in projection and has a median velocity of $\sim$352 km s$^{-1}$. The outflow dynamical time scale ($\sim$ 9 Myr) is consistent with the time scale of the current quenching process based on the star formation history as reported previously. The total mass outflow rate (92.6$^{+92.6}_{-74.1}$ M$_{\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$) is larger than the current star formation rate (0.9$^{+3.8}_{-0.8}$ or 4.3$^{+5.8}_{-3.7}$ M$_{\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$), and the total kinetic energy outflow rate (0.6$^{+0.6}_{-0.5}$\% of quasar luminosity) meets the threshold for negative quasar feedback as suggested by simulations. These results suggest that the outflow is capable of suppressing/quenching the star formation activity within the host galaxy. Furthermore, J1512$+$4422 exhibits $σ_\ast$, stellar mass and size similar to those of $z \gtrsim$ 3 quiescent/post-starburst galaxies, implying a link between the two. Overall, for objects like J1512$+$4422, the evolution of their SMBHs and host galaxies appears to be tightly coupled within the first billion years. The quasar feedback likely plays a critical role in both placing them on the $M_{\rm BH}$--$σ_\ast$ relation and quenching.

Inflation Model Based on Virasoro Squeezing

We propose a novel mechanism for realizing slow-roll inflation that is fully consistent with observational data, based on conformal transformations acting exclusively on a complex scalar field -- without coupling to the gravitational sector. These transformations generically produce a plateau in the inflaton potential, as guaranteed by the maximum modulus theorem, thereby naturally satisfying the slow-roll conditions. Our framework utilizes squeezing operations generated by the Virasoro algebra without central extension, as developed in our earlier work. The resulting inflationary potentials depend on the Virasoro mode $n$, the power $m$ of the original potential, and the squeezing parameter $θ$. We present approximate analytical expressions at leading order for the special case $n=-2$, and perform numerical analyses for both $n=-2$ and other values of $n$. These reveal parameter regimes in which the predicted cosmological observables $(n_{s},r)$ align remarkably well with current CMB measurements.

Nambu Non-equilibrium Thermodynamics: Axiomatic Formulation and Foundation

We present a theoretical framework for non-equilibrium thermodynamics, termed Nambu Non-equilibrium Thermodynamics (NNET), which unifies reversible dynamics described by the Nambu bracket and irreversible processes driven by entropy gradients. The formulation provides a covariant description of systems far from equilibrium, where entropy may transiently decrease as a result of reversible circulations or exchanges with the surroundings, extending the applicability of conventional thermodynamic formalisms. As an illustrative example, a triangular chemical reaction system is analyzed. It is shown that, without assuming detailed balance or linearity, two geometric structures that behave as conserved quantities in the reversible limit naturally emerge: one associated with cyclic symmetry in the reaction space, and another that vanishes under symmetric reaction rates. These results demonstrate that NNET provides a unified and covariant formulation for describing both cyclic dynamics and dissipative processes within a single theoretical structure.

Subaru High-$z$ Exploration of Low-Luminosity Quasars (SHELLQs). XXV. Large-scale environments of low-luminosity quasars at $z\sim6$ traced by Ly$α$ emitters

High-$z$ quasars are believed to reside in massive dark matter haloes (DMHs), suggesting that they reside in galaxy overdense regions. However, previous observations have shown a range of environments around them. These fields have been limited to luminous quasars ($M_{1450}\lesssim-25$), for which photoevaporation may hinder galaxy formation in their vicinity. Here, we present Subaru/Hyper-Suprime Cam observations of the environments of four low-luminosity quasars ($-24<M_{1450}<-22$) at $z\sim6.18$, which are expected to have a smaller photoevaporation effect. We detect Lyman $α$ emitters (LAEs) with narrowband NB872 imaging, and measure the local LAE overdensity. One quasar (J0844$-$0132) resides in an overdense region ($δ_\mathrm{LAE}=1.97\pm0.40$), whereas the other three fields are consistent with no overdensity. These results hold over the proximity zone of each quasar, suggesting that the diverse environment around quasars is independent of photoevaporation. We find no significant correlation between the LAE overdensities and the characteristics of host galaxies and supermassive black holes. Our quasars have host stellar mass measurements from JWST, allowing us to compare them with the LAE overdensity around galaxies without quasar activity with comparable stellar masses. We find that the LAE overdensity in the J0844$-$0132 field is stronger than that of galaxies with similar stellar mass at $z\sim6$.

Blackbody Quasar and Radio Source (BBQSORS): A Candidate of Transitional Little Red Dots with a $T\sim10^4\ K$ Blackbody Spectrum

We report Subaru/PFS spectroscopic follow-up of a radio-loud quasar at $z=1.715$ from the UNVEIL radio AGN catalog and with X-ray detections. The PFS spectrum displays a broad MgII emission line with an $\mathrm{FWHM}\gtrsim4000\ km/s$, accompanied by a narrow absorption feature. The spectrum reveals a characteristic $Λ$-shape over the rest-frame wavelength ranging $\sim1500-3500\ Å$. This underlying UV continuum is too curved to be reproduced by simply applying dust extinction to the spectrum of typical unobscured quasars. Alternatively, it is well described by a blackbody spectrum with a temperature of $T\approx10000\ K$. This result is in good agreement with its UV to MIR photometry that can be well modeled by three blackbody components representing the SMBH envelope ($\mathit{T}\approx9700\ K$), dust torus ($T\approx1500\ K$), and host galaxy dust ($T\approx80\ K$). The source is marginally detected in the GALEX NUV, revealing a potential V-shaped spectral energy distribution around $1400\ Å$, reminiscent of the spectral feature reported for recently discussed LRDs whose V-shapes occur around $3000-4000\ Å$. This wavelength shift is broadly consistent with the temperature contrast between our blackbody component, with $T\sim10^4\ K$, and the lower effective temperature of $T\sim5000\ K$ expected for an optically thick photosphere surrounding the SMBH in LRDs. These properties suggest that this source might be caught in a transient evolutionary phase in which the dense gas envelope characteristic of LRD has begun to fragment, allowing us to witness the emergence of a quasar from an LRD-like state.

Possible mixing between elementary and bound state fields in the $t\bar{t}$ production excess at the LHC

Recent report by CMS Collaboration on the excess of top and anti-top pair production is studied, under the hypothesis of the coexistence of a toponium $(η_t)$ and an additional elementary field $(Ψ)$. We examine the scenario where toponium and an additional field are mixed, and consider the plausible scenarios in that case. Two scenarios are examined: one is the minimal model with $Ψ$ close to the inert Higgs doublet, and the other is embedded into the two Higgs doublet models (2HDM), where $Ψ$ is one of the two Higgs scalars after transforming the basis. The value of the each coupling constant is restricted by the Multicritical Point Principle (MPP). Consistency with the data gives constraints on a mixing angle $θ (-45^\circ\leθ\le45^\circ)$, with which the mass eigenstate $Ψ^\prime$ contributing to the excess is defined by $Ψ^\prime=Ψ\cos θ+ η_t\sin θ$. The obtained results are $|θ| \le 13^{\circ}$ for the minimum scenario, and $|θ| \le 1^{\circ}$ for the second scenario of 2HDM(Type II and Y). We also briefly discuss the comparison with Type I and X.

Reduction of Complex Dynamics in Far-from-equilibrium Systems: Nambu Non-equilibrium Thermodynamics

Far-from-equilibrium thermodynamic systems dominated by strong nonlinearity are reformulated within a dynamical framework based on the Nambu bracket formalism. It is demonstrated that general complex nonlinear non-equilibrium systems can be locally reduced to a simple form of Nambu Non-equilibrium Thermodynamics (NNET). Furthermore, mathematical and dynamical obstacles encountered in extending this reduction globally are discussed, and a generalized formulation that incorporates nonlinear effects through mixed higher-order tensors is proposed.

SHELLQs. Bridging the Gap: JWST Unveils Obscured Quasars in the Most Luminous Galaxies at z > 6

The unprecedented sensitivity of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has uncovered a surprisingly abundant population of mildly obscured, low-luminosity active galactic nuclei (AGNs) in the epoch of reionization (EoR). However, the link between these objects and classical unobscured quasars remains a mystery. Here we report the discovery of obscured quasars hosted by the most luminous galaxies at z > 6, possibly bridging the gap between the two AGN populations. The 13 objects presented here were originally selected from a rest-frame ultraviolet (UV) imaging survey over >1000 deg2, and were known to have luminous (>10^{43} erg/s) narrow Ly-alpha emission. With JWST/NIRSpec follow-up observations, we found that 7 out of 11 objects with narrow Ly-alpha exhibit a broad component in H I Balmer lines and He I lines, but not in [O III] and other forbidden lines. Mild dust obscuration (0 < Av < 3) is inferred from the Balmer decrements. The estimated intrinsic luminosities suggest that our broad line (BL) objects are the long-sought UV-obscured counterparts of luminous quasars in the EoR. They host supermassive black holes (SMBHs) with masses 10^(7.8-9.1) Msun, undergoing sub-Eddington to Eddington accretion. Most of the BL objects are spatially unresolved, and are close to "little red dots" with their blue rest-UV and red rest-optical colors. We estimate the AGN number density among similarly luminous Ly-alpha emitters to be larger than 2 x 10^(-8) /Mpc3. This density is comparable to that of classical quasars with similar continuum luminosities, suggesting that a substantial fraction of active SMBHs are obscured in the EoR and have been overlooked in past rest-UV surveys.
