Velocity dependence of the mass modifications of $ρ$ and $ω$ mesons in 12 GeV $p+A$ reactions

This study measured the invariant mass spectra of $ρ$ and $ω$ mesons in the $e^+e^-$ decay channel for 12 GeV (12.9 GeV/$c$) $p+\mathrm{C}$ and $p+\mathrm{Cu}$ reactions ($\sqrt{s}_{NN}=5.1$ GeV) at the KEK 12-GeV Proton Synchrotron. The measured spectra were divided into three $βγ$ regions to examine their velocity dependence. Across all regions, significant excesses were observed on the low-mass side of the $ω$ meson peak, beyond the contributions of known hadronic sources, in the data of the C and Cu targets. Model calculations were subsequently performed to evaluate the magnitudes of the mass modifications of $ρ$ and $ω$ mesons.

Development of the Range Counter for the COMET Phase-$α$ Experiment

The COMET Phase-$α$ experiment aims to evaluate the novel muon transport beamline for the muon-to-electron conversion search at J-PARC, Japan. A dedicated Range Counter (RC) was developed to measure the momentum spectrum of transported negative muons with momenta of 30--100 MeV/$c$. The RC consists of graphite momentum degraders, a muon absorber, and plastic scintillation counters ($\rm T_0$, $\rm T_1$, and $\rm T_2$) to detect decay-in-orbit (DIO) electrons from stopped muons. The number of muons stopped in the absorber is reconstructed from the decay time distribution. A copper absorber was selected due to the short lifetime of muonic atoms in copper, which enhances signal separation. The counters' performance was evaluated experimentally. The $\rm T_0$ Counter, made of a $200\times 200\times 0.5~{\rm mm^3}$ scintillator plate, achieved a muon-trigger efficiency exceeding 99.9%. The $\rm T_1$ and $\rm T_2$ Counters also demonstrated high electron-detection efficiencies of $>99$%. Based on these results, simulation studies estimate the acceptance for reconstructing the number of DIO electrons from the absorber to be approximately 47% with a corresponding signal purity of 60% against muon capture-induced backgrounds.

Analysis of spectral modification of $ϕ$ mesons at finite density using a transport approach in the 12 GeV pA reactions

The hadron spectrum at finite density is an important observable for exploring the origin of hadron masses. In the KEK-PS E325 experiment, the di-electron decays of phi mesons inside and outside nuclei were measured using 12 GeV pA reactions. In the previous analysis, a significant excess was observed on the low-mass side of the phi meson peak in the data for slow-moving phi mesons ($βγ=p_ϕ/m_ϕ<1.25$) with the Cu target, and in-medium vector meson spectral modification was verified. We newly employed the PHSD transport approach to take into account the time evolution of spatial density distribution of the target nuclei. Consistent with the previous analysis, a significant excess was observed in the present analysis as well. It was found that incorporating momentum dependence into the spectral modification leads to better agreement with the experimental results. For the slow-moving $ϕ$ mesons with the Cu target, the newly obtained modification parameters are consistent with those from the previous analysis within the uncertainties.

Development of a SciFi-based beam monitor for COMET

COMET is a leading experiment to search for coherent conversion of $μ^- \mathrm{N}\to e^- \mathrm{N}$ with a high-intensity pulsed muon beamline, produced by the innovative slow extraction techniques. Therefore, it is critical to measure the characteristics of the muon beam. We set up a Muon Beam Monitor (MBM), where scintillation fibers (SciFi) weaved in the cross shape are coupled to silicon photomultipliers (SiPM), to measure the spatial profile and timing structure of the extracted muon beam for COMET. The MBM detector has been tested successfully with a proton beamline in China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) and taken data with good performance in the commissioning run called COMET Phase-$α$. Experience of the MBM development, such as the mechanical structure and electronics readout, and its beam measurement results will be shared.

The overview of the spin physics at RHIC-PHENIX experiment

In Spiring 2005, RHIC successfully completed its first long data collection run with polarized proton beams. PHENIX accumulated ten fold larger statistics with higher polarization than the previous spin physics run in 2003. This contribution will introduce the RHIC-PHENIX experiment and present our recent results.
