K-Theoretic Generalized Donaldson-Thomas Invariants

We introduce the notion of almost perfect obstruction theory on a Deligne-Mumford stack and show that stacks with almost perfect obstruction theories have virtual structure sheaves which are deformation invariant. The main components in the construction are an induced embedding of the coarse moduli sheaf of the intrinsic normal cone into the associated obstruction sheaf stack and the construction of a $K$-theoretic Gysin map for sheaf stacks. We show that many stacks of interest admit almost perfect obstruction theories. As a result, we are able to define virtual structure sheaves and $K$-theoretic classical and generalized Donaldson-Thomas invariants of sheaves and complexes on Calabi-Yau threefolds.

A new method toward the Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence via quasi-maps

The Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence claims that the Gromov-Witten invariant of the quintic Calabi-Yau 3-fold should be related to the Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten invariant of the associated Landau-Ginzburg model via wall crossings. In this paper, we consider the stack of quasi-maps with a cosection and introduce sequences of stability conditions which enable us to interpolate between the moduli stack for Gromov-Witten invariants and the moduli stack for Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten invariants.

Quantum singularity theory via cosection localization

We generalize the cosection localized Gysin map to intersection homology and Borel-Moore homology, which provides us with a purely topological construction of the Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten invariants and some GLSM invariants.

Fano visitors, Fano dimension and orbifold Fano hosts

In arXiv:1503.00125, the authors proved that every complete intersection smooth projective variety $Y$ is a Fano visitor, i.e. its derived category $D^b(Y)$ is equivalent to a full triangulated subcategory of the derived category $D^b(X)$ of a smooth Fano variety $X$, called a Fano host of $Y$. They also introduced the notion of Fano dimension of $Y$ as the smallest dimension of a Fano host $X$ and obtained an upper bound for the Fano dimension of each complete intersection variety. In this paper, we provide a Hodge-theoretic criterion for the existence of a Fano host which enables us to determine the Fano dimensions precisely for many interesting examples, such as low genus curves, quintic Calabi-Yau 3-folds and general complete intersection Calabi-Yau varieties. Next we initiate a systematic search for more Fano visitors. We generalize the methods of arXiv:1503.00125 to prove that smooth curves of genus at most 4 are all Fano visitors and general curves of genus at most 9 are Fano visitors. For surfaces and higher dimensional varieties, we find more examples of Fano visitors and raise natural questions. We also generalize Bondal's question and study triangulated subcategories of derived categories of Fano orbifolds. We proved that there are Fano orbifolds whose derived categories contain derived categories of orbifolds associated to quasi-smooth complete intersections in weighted projective spaces, Jacobians of curves, generic Enriques surfaces, some families of Kummer surfaces, bielliptic surfaces, surfaces with $κ=1,$ classical Godeaux surfaces, product-quotient surfaces, holomorphic symplectic varieties, etc. From these constructions, we found Fano orbifolds whose derived categories contain quasi-phantom categories or phantom categories.

Localizing virtual fundamental cycles for semi-perfect obstruction theories

Recently H.-L. Chang and J. Li generalized the theory of virtual fundamental class to the setting of semi-perfect obstruction theory. A semi-perfect obstruction theory requires only the local existence of a perfect obstruction theory with compatibility conditions. In this paper, we generalize the torus localization, the cosection localization and their combination, to the setting of semi-perfect obstruction theory. As an application, we show that the Jiang-Thomas theory of virtual signed Euler characteristic works without the technical quasi-smoothness assumption from derived algebraic geometry.

Categorification of Donaldson-Thomas invariants via Perverse Sheaves

We show that there is a perverse sheaf on a fine moduli space of stable sheaves on a smooth projective Calabi-Yau 3-fold, which is locally the perverse sheaf of vanishing cycles for a local Chern-Simons functional, possibly after taking an etale Galois cover. This perverse sheaf lifts to a mixed Hodge module and gives us a cohomology theory which enables us to define the Gopakumar-Vafa invariants mathematically.

Product vectors in the ranges of multi-partite states with positive partial transposes and permanents of matrices

In this paper, we consider a system of homogeneous algebraic equations in complex variables and their conjugates, which arise naturally from the range criterion for separability of PPT states. We examine systematically these equations to get sufficient conditions for the existence of nontrivial solutions. This gives us possible upper bounds of ranks of PPT entangled edge states and their partial transposes. We will focus on the multi-partite cases which are much more delicate than the bi-partite cases. We use the notion of permanents of matrices as well as techniques from algebraic geometry through the discussion.

All complete intersection varieties are Fano visitors

We prove that the derived category of a smooth complete intersection variety is equivalent to a full subcategory of the derived category of a smooth projective Fano variety. This enables us to define some new invariants of smooth projective varieties and raise many interesting questions.

Torus localization and wall crossing for cosection localized virtual cycles

Since its introduction in 1995 by Li-Tian and Behrend-Fantechi, the theory of virtual fundamental class has played a key role in algebraic geometry, defining important invariants such as the Gromov-Witten invariant and the Donaldson-Thomas invariant. Quite a few methods for handling the virtual fundamental classes were discovered such as torus localization, degeneration, virtual pullback and cosection localization. Often combining these methods turns out to be quite effective. In this paper, we prove virtual pullback, torus localization and wall crossing formulas for cosection localized virtual cycles.

Surjectivity of the hyperkähler Kirwan map

We study a class of group actions on hyperkähler manifolds which we call actions of linear type. If $M$ is a hyperkähler manifold possessing such a $G$-action, the hyperkähler Kirwan map is surjective if and only if the natural restriction $H^\ast(M / G) \to H^\ast(M / G)$ is surjective. We prove that this restriction is an isomorphism below middle degree and an injection in middle degree. As a consequence, the hyperkähler Kirwan map is surjective except possibly in middle degree, and its kernel may be determined from the kernel of the ordinary Kirwan map. These results apply in particular to hypertoric varieties, hyperpolygon spaces, and Nakajima quiver varieties.

Categorification of Donaldson-Thomas invariants by Perverse Sheaves

We show that there is a natural perverse sheaf on the moduli space of semistable sheaves on a smooth projective Calabi-Yau 3-fold which is locally the perverse sheaf of vanishing cycles for a local Chern-Simons functional. This gives us a cohomology theory whose Euler numbers are Donaldson-Thomas invariants.

Poincare invariants are Seiberg-Witten invariants

We prove a conjecture of Durr, Kabanov and Okonek which provides an algebro-geometric theory of Seiberg-Witten invariants for all smooth projective surfaces. Our main technique is the cosection localization principle of virtual cycles.

Compactified moduli spaces of rational curves in projective homogeneous varieties

The space of smooth rational curves of degree $d$ in a projective variety $X$ has compactifications by taking closures in the Hilbert scheme, the moduli space of stable sheaves or the moduli space of stable maps respectively. In this paper we compare these compactifications by explicit blow-ups and -downs when $X$ is a projective homogeneous variety and $d\leq 3$. Using the comparison result, we calculate the Betti numbers of the compactifications when $X$ is a Grassmannian variety.

Localizing Virtual Cycles by Cosections

We show that a cosection of the obstruction sheaf of a perfect obstruction theory localizes the virtual cycle to the non-surjective locus of the cosection. We give algebraic constructions of localized Gysin maps and localized virtual cycles. Various applications of these constructions are discussed.
