Optimized detection of high-dimensional entanglement

Entanglement detection is one of the most conventional tasks in quantum information processing. While most experimental demonstrations of high-dimensional entanglement rely on fidelity-based witnesses, these are powerless to detect entanglement within a large class of entangled quantum states, the so-called unfaithful states. In this paper, we introduce a highly flexible automated method to construct optimal tests for entanglement detection given a bipartite target state of arbitrary dimension, faithful or unfaithful, and a set of local measurement operators. By restricting the number or complexity of the considered measurement settings, our method outputs the most convenient protocol which can be implemented using a wide range of experimental techniques such as photons, superconducting qudits, cold atoms or trapped ions. With an experimental quantum optics setup that can prepare and measure arbitrary high-dimensional mixed states, we implement some $3$-setting protocols generated by our method. These protocols allow us to experimentally certify 2- and 3-unfaithful entanglement in 4-dimensional photonic states, some of which contain well above 50% of noise.

Cyclic three-level-pulse-area theorem for enantioselective state transfer of chiral molecules

We derive a pulse-area theorem for a cyclic three-level system, an archetypal model for exploring enantioselective state transfer (ESST) in chiral molecules driven by three linearly polarized microwave pulses. By dividing the closed-loop excitation into two separate stages, we obtain both amplitude and phase conditions of three control fields to generate high fidelity of ESST. As a proof of principle, we apply this pulse-area theorem to the cyclohexylmethanol molecules ($\text{C}_{7}\text{H}_{14}\text{O}$), for which three rotational states are connected by the $a$-type, $b$-type, and $c$-type components of the transition dipole moments in both center-frequency resonant and detuned conditions. Our results show that two enantiomers with opposite handedness can be transferred to different target states by designing three microwave pulses that satisfy the amplitude and phase conditions at the transition frequencies. The corresponding control schemes are robust against the time delays between the two stages. We suggest that the two control fields used in the second stage should be applied simultaneously for practical applications. This work contributes an alternative pulse-area theorem to the field of quantum control, which has the potential to determine the chirality of enantiomers in a mixture.

Stereo CenterNet based 3D Object Detection for Autonomous Driving

Recently, three-dimensional (3D) detection based on stereo images has progressed remarkably; however, most advanced methods adopt anchor-based two-dimensional (2D) detection or depth estimation to address this problem. Nevertheless, high computational cost inhibits these methods from achieving real-time performance. In this study, we propose a 3D object detection method, Stereo CenterNet (SC), using geometric information in stereo imagery. SC predicts the four semantic key points of the 3D bounding box of the object in space and utilizes 2D left and right boxes, 3D dimension, orientation, and key points to restore the bounding box of the object in the 3D space. Subsequently, we adopt an improved photometric alignment module to further optimize the position of the 3D bounding box. Experiments conducted on the KITTI dataset indicate that the proposed SC exhibits the best speed-accuracy trade-off among advanced methods without using extra data.

Pathways for entanglement based quantum communication in the face of high noise

Entanglement based quantum communication offers an increased level of security in practical secret shared key distribution. One of the fundamental principles enabling this security -- the fact that interfering with one photon will destroy entanglement and thus be detectable -- is also the greatest obstacle. Random encounters of traveling photons, losses and technical imperfections make noise an inevitable part of any quantum communication scheme, severely limiting distance, key rate and environmental conditions in which QKD can be employed. Using photons entangled in their spatial degree of freedom, we show that the increased noise resistance of high-dimensional entanglement, can indeed be harnessed for practical key distribution schemes. We perform quantum key distribution in eight entangled paths at various levels of environmental noise and show key rates that, even after error correction and privacy amplification, still exceed $1$ bit per photon pair and furthermore certify a secure key at noise levels that would prohibit comparable qubit based schemes from working.

Monogamy of quantum discord

The original quantum discord (QD) is shown to be not monogamous except for the three-qubit states. Recently, a complete monogamy relation for multiparty quantum system was established for entanglement in [Phys. Rev. A. {101}, 032301~(2020)], and in addition, a new multipartite generalization of QD was proposed in [Phys. Rev. Lett. {124}, 110401~(2020)]. In this work, we firstly define the complete monogamy for this multipartite quantum discord (MQD) and the global quantum discord (GQD). MQD, with the same spirit as the complete monogamy of entanglement, is said to be completely monogamous (i) if it does not increase under coarsening of subsystems and (ii) if some given combination of subsystems reach the total amount of the correlation, then all other combination of subsystems that do not include all the given subsystems do not contain such a correlation any more. Here, coarsening of subsystems means discarding or combining some subsystems up to the given partition. Simultaneously, the complete monogamy of GQD is also defined with slight modification on the coarsening relation.Consequently, we explore all the coarsening relations of MQD and show that it is completely monogamous with a modicum assumption. In addition, with the same spirit, we investigate all the coarsening relations for GQD and show that GQD is not completely monogamous. That is, in the sense of the complete monogamy relation, MQD as a generalization of the original QD captures the nature of such a quantum correlation, and thus it is nicer than GQD as a generalization.

Nonlocality, steering and quantum state tomography in a single experiment

We investigate whether paradigmatic measurements for quantum state tomography, namely mutually unbiased bases and symmetric informationally complete measurements, can be employed to certify quantum correlations. For this purpose, we identify a simple and noise-robust correlation witness for entanglement detection, steering and nonlocality that can be evaluated based on the outcome statistics obtained in the tomography experiment. This allows us to perform state tomography on entangled qutrits, a test of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering and a Bell inequality test, all within a single experiment. We also investigate the trade-off between quantum correlations and subsets of tomographically complete measurements as well as the quantification of entanglement in the different scenarios. Finally, we perform a photonics experiment in which we demonstrate quantum correlations under these flexible assumptions, namely with both parties trusted, one party untrusted and both parties untrusted.

Transcritical transition of the fluid around the interface

In this letter, we provide fundamental insights into the dynamic transcritical transition process using molecular dynamics simulations. A transcritical region, which covers three different fluid states, was discovered as a substitute for the traditional interface. The physical properties, such as temperature and density, exhibited a highly non-linear distribution in the transcritical region. Meanwhile, the surface tension was found to exist throughout the transcritical region, and the magnitude was directly proportional to $ - ρ\cdot {\nabla ^2}ρ$

Experimental Demonstration of Instrument-specific Quantum Memory Effects and Non-Markovian Process Recovery for Common-Cause Processes

The duration, strength and structure of memory effects are crucial properties of physical evolution. Due to the invasive nature of quantum measurement, such properties must be defined with respect to the probing instruments employed. Here, using a photonic platform, we experimentally demonstrate this necessity via two paradigmatic processes: future-history correlations in the first process can be erased by an intermediate quantum measurement; for the second process, a noisy classical measurement blocks the effect of history. We then apply memory truncation techniques to recover an efficient description that approximates expectation values for multi-time observables. Our proof-of-principle analysis paves the way for experiments concerning more general non-Markovian quantum processes and highlights where standard open systems techniques break down.

Pchatbot: A Large-Scale Dataset for Personalized Chatbot

Natural language dialogue systems raise great attention recently. As many dialogue models are data-driven, high-quality datasets are essential to these systems. In this paper, we introduce Pchatbot, a large-scale dialogue dataset that contains two subsets collected from Weibo and Judicial forums respectively. To adapt the raw dataset to dialogue systems, we elaborately normalize the raw dataset via processes such as anonymization, deduplication, segmentation, and filtering. The scale of Pchatbot is significantly larger than existing Chinese datasets, which might benefit the data-driven models. Besides, current dialogue datasets for personalized chatbot usually contain several persona sentences or attributes. Different from existing datasets, Pchatbot provides anonymized user IDs and timestamps for both posts and responses. This enables the development of personalized dialogue models that directly learn implicit user personality from the user's dialogue history. Our preliminary experimental study benchmarks several state-of-the-art dialogue models to provide a comparison for future work. The dataset can be publicly accessed at Github.

Existence of solutions for first-order Hamiltonian stochastic impulsive differential equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions

In this paper, we study the sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions of first-order Hamiltonian stochastic impulsive differential equations under Dirichlet boundary value conditions. By using the variational method, we first obtain the corresponding energy functional. And by using Legendre transformation, we obtain the conjugation of the functional. Then the existence of critical point is obtained by mountain pass lemma. Finally, we assert that the critical point of the energy functional is the mild solution of the first order Hamiltonian stochastic impulsive differential equation. Finally, an example are presented to illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of our results.

Controlling directed atomic motion and second-order tunneling of a spin-orbit-coupled atom in optical lattices

We theoretically explore the tunneling dynamics for the tight-binding (TB) model of a single spin-orbit-coupled atom trapped in an optical lattice subjected to lattice shaking and to time-periodic Zeeman field. By means of analytical and numerical methods, we demonstrate that the spin-orbit (SO) coupling adds some new results to the tunneling dynamics in both multiphoton resonance and far-off-resonance parameter regimes. When the driving frequency is resonant with the static Zeeman field (multi-photon resonances), we obtain an unexpected new dynamical localization (DL) phenomenon where the single SO-coupled atom is restricted to making perfect two-site Rabi oscillation accompanied by spin flipping.By using the unconventional DL phenomenon, we are able to generate a ratchetlike effect which enables directed atomic motion towards different directions and accompanies periodic spin-flipping under the action of SO coupling. For the far-off-resonance case, we show that by suppressing the usual inter-site tunneling alone, it is possible to realize a type of spin-conserving second-order tunneling between next-nearest-neighboring sites, which is not accessible in the conventional lattice system without SO coupling. We also show that simultaneous controls of the usual inter-site tunneling and the SO-coupling-related second-order-tunneling are necessary for quasienergies flatness (collapse) and completely frozen dynamics to exist. These results may be relevant to potential applications such as spin-based quantum information processing and design of novel spintronics devices.

Long-distance entanglement purification for quantum communication

High-quality long-distance entanglement is essential for both quantum communication and scalable quantum networks. Entanglement purification is to distill high-quality entanglement from low-quality entanglement in a noisy environment and it plays a key role in quantum repeaters. The previous significant entanglement purification experiments require two pairs of low-quality entangled states and were demonstrated in table-top. Here we propose and report a high-efficiency and long-distance entanglement purification using only one pair of hyperentangled states. We also demonstrate its practical application in entanglement-based quantum key distribution (QKD). One pair of polarization spatial-mode hyperentanglement was distributed over 11 km multicore fiber (noisy channel). After purification, the fidelity of polarization entanglement arises from 0.771 to 0.887 and the effective key rate in entanglement-based QKD increases from 0 to 0.332. The values of Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) inequality of polarization entanglement arises from 1.829 to 2.128. Moreover, by using one pair of hyperentanglement and deterministic controlled-NOT gate, the total purification efficiency can be estimated as 6.6x10^3 times than the experiment using two pairs of entangled states with spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) sources. Our results offer the potential to be implemented as part of a full quantum repeater and large scale quantum network.

Experimental high-dimensional quantum teleportation

Quantum teleportation provides a way to transmit unknown quantum states from one location to another. In the quantum world, multilevel systems which enable high-dimensional systems are more prevalent. Therefore, to completely rebuild the quantum states of a single particle remotely, one needs to teleport multilevel (high-dimensional) states. Here, we demonstrate the teleportation of high-dimensional states in a three-dimensional six-photon system. We exploit the spatial mode of a single photon as the high-dimensional system, use two auxiliary entangled photons to realize a deterministic three-dimensional Bell state measurement. The fidelity of teleportation process matrix is F=0.596\pm0.037. Through this process matrix, we can prove that our teleportation is both nonclassical and genuine three dimensional. Our work paves the way to rebuild complex quantum systems remotely and to construct complex quantum networks.

A Method to Generate High Precision Mesh Model and RGB-D Datasetfor 6D Pose Estimation Task

Recently, 3D version has been improved greatly due to the development of deep neural networks. A high quality dataset is important to the deep learning method. Existing datasets for 3D vision has been constructed, such as Bigbird and YCB. However, the depth sensors used to make these datasets are out of date, which made the resolution and accuracy of the datasets cannot full fill the higher standards of demand. Although the equipment and technology got better, but no one was trying to collect new and better dataset. Here we are trying to fill that gap. To this end, we propose a new method for object reconstruction, which takes into account the speed, accuracy and robustness. Our method could be used to produce large dataset with better and more accurate annotation. More importantly, our data is more close to the rendering data, which shrinking the gap between the real data and synthetic data further.

A Bayesian Inference Framework for Procedural Material Parameter Estimation

Procedural material models have been gaining traction in many applications thanks to their flexibility, compactness, and easy editability. We explore the inverse rendering problem of procedural material parameter estimation from photographs, presenting a unified view of the problem in a Bayesian framework. In addition to computing point estimates of the parameters by optimization, our framework uses a Markov Chain Monte Carlo approach to sample the space of plausible material parameters, providing a collection of plausible matches that a user can choose from, and efficiently handling both discrete and continuous model parameters. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our framework, we fit procedural models of a range of materials---wall plaster, leather, wood, anisotropic brushed metals and layered metallic paints---to both synthetic and real target images.

Experimental Entanglement Quantification for Unknown Quantum States in a Semi-Device-Independent Manner

Using the concept of non-degenerate Bell inequality, we show that quantum entanglement, the critical resource for various quantum information processing tasks, can be quantified for any unknown quantum states in a semi-device-independent manner, where the quantification is based on the experimentally obtained probability distribution and beforehand knowledge on quantum dimension only. Specifically, as an application of our approach on multi-level systems, we experimentally quantify the entanglement of formation and the entanglement of distillation for qutrit-qutrit quantum systems. In addition, to demonstrate our approach for multi-partite systems, we further quantify the geometry measure of entanglement of three-qubit quantum systems. Our results supply a general way to reliably quantify entanglement in multi-level and multi-partite systems, thus paving the way to characterize many-body quantum systems by quantifying involved entanglement.

MaterialGAN: Reflectance Capture using a Generative SVBRDF Model

We address the problem of reconstructing spatially-varying BRDFs from a small set of image measurements. This is a fundamentally under-constrained problem, and previous work has relied on using various regularization priors or on capturing many images to produce plausible results. In this work, we present MaterialGAN, a deep generative convolutional network based on StyleGAN2, trained to synthesize realistic SVBRDF parameter maps. We show that MaterialGAN can be used as a powerful material prior in an inverse rendering framework: we optimize in its latent representation to generate material maps that match the appearance of the captured images when rendered. We demonstrate this framework on the task of reconstructing SVBRDFs from images captured under flash illumination using a hand-held mobile phone. Our method succeeds in producing plausible material maps that accurately reproduce the target images, and outperforms previous state-of-the-art material capture methods in evaluations on both synthetic and real data. Furthermore, our GAN-based latent space allows for high-level semantic material editing operations such as generating material variations and material morphing.
