Interactive Gadolinium-Free MRI Synthesis: A Transformer with Localization Prompt Learning

Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CE-MRI) is crucial for tumor detection and diagnosis, but the use of gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) in clinical settings raises safety concerns due to potential health risks. To circumvent these issues while preserving diagnostic accuracy, we propose a novel Transformer with Localization Prompts (TLP) framework for synthesizing CE-MRI from non-contrast MR images. Our architecture introduces three key innovations: a hierarchical backbone that uses efficient Transformer to process multi-scale features; a multi-stage fusion system consisting of Local and Global Fusion modules that hierarchically integrate complementary information via spatial attention operations and cross-attention mechanisms, respectively; and a Fuzzy Prompt Generation (FPG) module that enhances the TLP model's generalization by emulating radiologists' manual annotation through stochastic feature perturbation. The framework uniquely enables interactive clinical integration by allowing radiologists to input diagnostic prompts during inference, synergizing artificial intelligence with medical expertise. This research establishes a new paradigm for contrast-free MRI synthesis while addressing critical clinical needs for safer diagnostic procedures. Codes are available at https://github.com/ChanghuiSu/TLP.

Compression of Entanglement Improves Quantum Communication

Shared entanglement can significantly amplify classical correlations between systems interacting over a limited quantum channel. A natural avenue is to use entanglement of the same dimension as the channel because this allows for unitary encodings, which preserve global coherence until a measurement is performed. Contrasting this, we here demonstrate a distributed task based on a qubit channel, for which irreversible encoding operations can outperform any possible coherence-preserving protocol. This corresponds to using high-dimensional entanglement and encoding information by compressing one of the subsystems into a qubit. Demonstrating this phenomenon requires the preparation of a four-dimensional maximally entangled state, the compression of two qubits into one and joint qubit-ququart entangled measurements, with all modules executed at near-optimal fidelity. We report on a proof-of-principle experiment that achieves the advantage by realizing separate systems in distinct and independently controlled paths of a single photon. Our result demonstrates the relevance of high-dimensional entanglement and non-unitary operations for enhancing the communication capabilities of standard qubit transmissions.

FocalCount: Towards Class-Count Imbalance in Class-Agnostic Counting

In class-agnostic object counting, the goal is to estimate the total number of object instances in an image without distinguishing between specific categories. Existing methods often predict this count without considering class-specific outputs, leading to inaccuracies when such outputs are required. These inaccuracies stem from two key challenges: 1) the prevalence of single-category images in datasets, which leads models to generalize specific categories as representative of all objects, and 2) the use of mean squared error loss during training, which applies uniform penalization. This uniform penalty disregards errors in less frequent categories, particularly when these errors contribute minimally to the overall loss. To address these issues, we propose {FocalCount}, a novel approach that leverages diverse feature attributes to estimate the number of object categories in an image. This estimate serves as a weighted factor to correct class-count imbalances. Additionally, we introduce {Focal-MSE}, a new loss function that integrates binary cross-entropy to generate stronger error gradients, enhancing the model's sensitivity to errors in underrepresented categories. Our approach significantly improves the model's ability to distinguish between specific classes and general counts, demonstrating superior performance and scalability in both few-shot and zero-shot scenarios across three object counting datasets. The code will be released soon.

Quantum stochastic communication via high-dimensional entanglement

Entanglement has the ability to enhance the transmission of classical information over a quantum channel. However, fully harvesting this advantage typically requires complex entangling measurements, which are challenging to implement and scale with the system's size. In this work, we consider a natural quantum information primitive in which the message to be communicated is selected stochastically. We introduce a protocol that leverages high-dimensional entanglement to perform this task perfectly, without requiring quantum interference between particles at the measurement station. We experimentally demonstrate the protocol's scalability in an optical setup using 8-dimensional entanglement and multi-outcome detection, providing a practical solution for stochastic communication and a robust method for certifying the dimensionality of entanglement in communication experiments.

FLAME: Financial Large-Language Model Assessment and Metrics Evaluation

LLMs have revolutionized NLP and demonstrated potential across diverse domains. More and more financial LLMs have been introduced for finance-specific tasks, yet comprehensively assessing their value is still challenging. In this paper, we introduce FLAME, a comprehensive financial LLMs evaluation system in Chinese, which includes two core evaluation benchmarks: FLAME-Cer and FLAME-Sce. FLAME-Cer covers 14 types of authoritative financial certifications, including CPA, CFA, and FRM, with a total of approximately 16,000 carefully selected questions. All questions have been manually reviewed to ensure accuracy and representativeness. FLAME-Sce consists of 10 primary core financial business scenarios, 21 secondary financial business scenarios, and a comprehensive evaluation set of nearly 100 tertiary financial application tasks. We evaluate 6 representative LLMs, including GPT-4o, GLM-4, ERNIE-4.0, Qwen2.5, XuanYuan3, and the latest Baichuan4-Finance, revealing Baichuan4-Finance excels other LLMs in most tasks. By establishing a comprehensive and professional evaluation system, FLAME facilitates the advancement of financial LLMs in Chinese contexts. Instructions for participating in the evaluation are available on GitHub: https://github.com/FLAME-ruc/FLAME.

ReverseNER: A Self-Generated Example-Driven Framework for Zero-Shot Named Entity Recognition with Large Language Models

This paper presents ReverseNER, a method aimed at overcoming the limitation of large language models (LLMs) in zero-shot named entity recognition (NER) tasks, arising from their reliance on pre-provided demonstrations. ReverseNER tackles this challenge by constructing a reliable example library composed of dozens of entity-labeled sentences, generated through the reverse process of NER. Specifically, while conventional NER methods label entities in a sentence, ReverseNER features reversing the process by using an LLM to generate entities from their definitions and subsequently expand them into full sentences. During the entity expansion process, the LLM is guided to generate sentences by replicating the structures of a set of specific \textsl{feature sentences}, extracted from the task sentences by clustering. This expansion process produces dozens of entity-labeled task-relevant sentences. After constructing the example library, the method selects several semantically similar entity-labeled examples for each task sentence as references to facilitate the LLM's entity recognition. We also propose an entity-level self-consistency scoring mechanism to improve NER performance with LLMs. Experiments show that ReverseNER significantly outperforms other zero-shot NER methods with LLMs, marking a notable improvement in NER for domains without labeled data, while declining computational resource consumption.

A New Adversarial Perspective for LiDAR-based 3D Object Detection

Autonomous vehicles (AVs) rely on LiDAR sensors for environmental perception and decision-making in driving scenarios. However, ensuring the safety and reliability of AVs in complex environments remains a pressing challenge. To address this issue, we introduce a real-world dataset (ROLiD) comprising LiDAR-scanned point clouds of two random objects: water mist and smoke. In this paper, we introduce a novel adversarial perspective by proposing an attack framework that utilizes water mist and smoke to simulate environmental interference. Specifically, we propose a point cloud sequence generation method using a motion and content decomposition generative adversarial network named PCS-GAN to simulate the distribution of random objects. Furthermore, leveraging the simulated LiDAR scanning characteristics implemented with Range Image, we examine the effects of introducing random object perturbations at various positions on the target vehicle. Extensive experiments demonstrate that adversarial perturbations based on random objects effectively deceive vehicle detection and reduce the recognition rate of 3D object detection models.

Multiple scattering suppression for in vivo optical coherence tomography measurement using B-scan-wise multi-focus averaging method

We demonstrate a method that reduces the noise caused by multi-scattering (MS) photons in an \invivo optical coherence tomography image. This method combines a specially designed image acquisition (i.e., optical coherence tomography scan) scheme and subsequent complex signal processing. For the acquisition, multiple cross-sectional images (frames) are sequentially acquired while the depth position of the focus is altered for each frame by an electrically tunable lens. In the signal processing, the frames are numerically defocus-corrected, and complex averaged. Because of the inconsistency in the MS-photon trajectories among the different electrically tunable lens-induced defocus, this averaging reduces the MS signal. This method was validated using a scattering phantom and in vivo unanesthetized small fish samples, and was found to reduce MS noise even for unanesthetized in vivo measurement.

SCIGS: 3D Gaussians Splatting from a Snapshot Compressive Image

Snapshot Compressive Imaging (SCI) offers a possibility for capturing information in high-speed dynamic scenes, requiring efficient reconstruction method to recover scene information. Despite promising results, current deep learning-based and NeRF-based reconstruction methods face challenges: 1) deep learning-based reconstruction methods struggle to maintain 3D structural consistency within scenes, and 2) NeRF-based reconstruction methods still face limitations in handling dynamic scenes. To address these challenges, we propose SCIGS, a variant of 3DGS, and develop a primitive-level transformation network that utilizes camera pose stamps and Gaussian primitive coordinates as embedding vectors. This approach resolves the necessity of camera pose in vanilla 3DGS and enhances multi-view 3D structural consistency in dynamic scenes by utilizing transformed primitives. Additionally, a high-frequency filter is introduced to eliminate the artifacts generated during the transformation. The proposed SCIGS is the first to reconstruct a 3D explicit scene from a single compressed image, extending its application to dynamic 3D scenes. Experiments on both static and dynamic scenes demonstrate that SCIGS not only enhances SCI decoding but also outperforms current state-of-the-art methods in reconstructing dynamic 3D scenes from a single compressed image. The code will be made available upon publication.

DynamicAvatars: Accurate Dynamic Facial Avatars Reconstruction and Precise Editing with Diffusion Models

Generating and editing dynamic 3D head avatars are crucial tasks in virtual reality and film production. However, existing methods often suffer from facial distortions, inaccurate head movements, and limited fine-grained editing capabilities. To address these challenges, we present DynamicAvatars, a dynamic model that generates photorealistic, moving 3D head avatars from video clips and parameters associated with facial positions and expressions. Our approach enables precise editing through a novel prompt-based editing model, which integrates user-provided prompts with guiding parameters derived from large language models (LLMs). To achieve this, we propose a dual-tracking framework based on Gaussian Splatting and introduce a prompt preprocessing module to enhance editing stability. By incorporating a specialized GAN algorithm and connecting it to our control module, which generates precise guiding parameters from LLMs, we successfully address the limitations of existing methods. Additionally, we develop a dynamic editing strategy that selectively utilizes specific training datasets to improve the efficiency and adaptability of the model for dynamic editing tasks.

Quantum-classical correspondence of non-Hermitian spin-orbit coupled bosonic junction

We investigate the classical-quantum correspondence of non-Hermitian Spin-orbit (SO)-coupled bosonic junctions, where an effective decay term is introduced in one of the two wells. Starting from the normalized two-point functions, we analytically demonstrate that the mean-field system has a classical Hamiltonian structure, and we successfully derive a non-Hermitian discrete nonlinear Schrödinger (Gross-Pitaevskii) equation. We discover that near the symmetry-breaking phase transition point, the correspondence between classical (mean-field) and quantum dynamics is more likely to break down. When the effective spin-orbit coupling (SOC) strength assumes half-integer values, atomic self-trapping in the non-lossy well definitely occurs, regardless of the system parameters, and the quantum dynamics is insensitive to the number of particles. Additionally, we reveal that in both the mean-field and many-particle models, the SOC effects can greatly promote the synchronous periodic oscillations between the spin-up and spin-down components, and this synchronization dynamics is protected by a symmetry mechanism.

Dispersive wave propagation in disordered flexible fibers enhances stress attenuation

We experimentally and computationally analyze impact-shock-induced stress wave propagation in packings of disordered flexible fibers. We find that dispersive wave propagation, associated with large stress attenuation, occurs much more prevalently in systems with larger fiber aspect ratios and moderate fiber flexibility. We trace these features to the microstructural properties of fiber contact chains and the energy-trapping abilities of deformable fibers. These findings provide new insights into physics of the shock-impacted flexible fiber packings and open the way towards an improved granular-material-based damping technology.

Quaternion Nuclear Norm minus Frobenius Norm Minimization for color image reconstruction

Color image restoration methods typically represent images as vectors in Euclidean space or combinations of three monochrome channels. However, they often overlook the correlation between these channels, leading to color distortion and artifacts in the reconstructed image. To address this, we present Quaternion Nuclear Norm Minus Frobenius Norm Minimization (QNMF), a novel approach for color image reconstruction. QNMF utilizes quaternion algebra to capture the relationships among RGB channels comprehensively. By employing a regularization technique that involves nuclear norm minus Frobenius norm, QNMF approximates the underlying low-rank structure of quaternion-encoded color images. Theoretical proofs are provided to ensure the method's mathematical integrity. Demonstrating versatility and efficacy, the QNMF regularizer excels in various color low-level vision tasks, including denoising, deblurring, inpainting, and random impulse noise removal, achieving state-of-the-art results.

Experimental Catalytic Amplification of Asymmetry

The manipulation and transformation of quantum resources are key parts of quantum mechanics. Among them, asymmetry is one of the most useful operational resources, which is widely used in quantum clocks, quantum metrology, and other tasks. Recent studies have shown that the asymmetry of quantum states can be significantly amplified with the assistance of correlating catalysts which are finite-dimensional auxiliaries. In the experiment, we perform translationally invariant operations, ensuring that the asymmetric resources of the entire system remain non-increasing, on a composite system composed of a catalytic system and a quantum system. The experimental results demonstrate an asymmetry amplification of 0.0172\pm0.0022 in the system following the catalytic process. Our work showcases the potential of quantum catalytic processes and is expected to inspire further research in the field of quantum resource theories.

Fiber-level Woven Fabric Capture from a Single Photo

Accurately rendering the appearance of fabrics is challenging, due to their complex 3D microstructures and specialized optical properties. If we model the geometry and optics of fabrics down to the fiber level, we can achieve unprecedented rendering realism, but this raises the difficulty of authoring or capturing the fiber-level assets. Existing approaches can obtain fiber-level geometry with special devices (e.g., CT) or complex hand-designed procedural pipelines (manually tweaking a set of parameters). In this paper, we propose a unified framework to capture fiber-level geometry and appearance of woven fabrics using a single low-cost microscope image. We first use a simple neural network to predict initial parameters of our geometric and appearance models. From this starting point, we further optimize the parameters of procedural fiber geometry and an approximated shading model via differentiable rasterization to match the microscope photo more accurately. Finally, we refine the fiber appearance parameters via differentiable path tracing, converging to accurate fiber optical parameters, which are suitable for physically-based light simulations to produce high-quality rendered results. We believe that our method is the first to utilize differentiable rendering at the microscopic level, supporting physically-based scattering from explicit fiber assemblies. Our fabric parameter estimation achieves high-quality re-rendering of measured woven fabric samples in both distant and close-up views. These results can further be used for efficient rendering or converted to downstream representations. We also propose a patch-space fiber geometry procedural generation and a two-scale path tracing framework for efficient rendering of fabric scenes.

Real-Time Multi-Scene Visibility Enhancement for Promoting Navigational Safety of Vessels Under Complex Weather Conditions

The visible-light camera, which is capable of environment perception and navigation assistance, has emerged as an essential imaging sensor for marine surface vessels in intelligent waterborne transportation systems (IWTS). However, the visual imaging quality inevitably suffers from several kinds of degradations (e.g., limited visibility, low contrast, color distortion, etc.) under complex weather conditions (e.g., haze, rain, and low-lightness). The degraded visual information will accordingly result in inaccurate environment perception and delayed operations for navigational risk. To promote the navigational safety of vessels, many computational methods have been presented to perform visual quality enhancement under poor weather conditions. However, most of these methods are essentially specific-purpose implementation strategies, only available for one specific weather type. To overcome this limitation, we propose to develop a general-purpose multi-scene visibility enhancement method, i.e., edge reparameterization- and attention-guided neural network (ERANet), to adaptively restore the degraded images captured under different weather conditions. In particular, our ERANet simultaneously exploits the channel attention, spatial attention, and reparameterization technology to enhance the visual quality while maintaining low computational cost. Extensive experiments conducted on standard and IWTS-related datasets have demonstrated that our ERANet could outperform several representative visibility enhancement methods in terms of both imaging quality and computational efficiency. The superior performance of IWTS-related object detection and scene segmentation could also be steadily obtained after ERANet-based visibility enhancement under complex weather conditions.

BiGS: Bidirectional Gaussian Primitives for Relightable 3D Gaussian Splatting

We present Bidirectional Gaussian Primitives, an image-based novel view synthesis technique designed to represent and render 3D objects with surface and volumetric materials under dynamic illumination. Our approach integrates light intrinsic decomposition into the Gaussian splatting framework, enabling real-time relighting of 3D objects. To unify surface and volumetric material within a cohesive appearance model, we adopt a light- and view-dependent scattering representation via bidirectional spherical harmonics. Our model does not use a specific surface normal-related reflectance function, making it more compatible with volumetric representations like Gaussian splatting, where the normals are undefined. We demonstrate our method by reconstructing and rendering objects with complex materials. Using One-Light-At-a-Time (OLAT) data as input, we can reproduce photorealistic appearances under novel lighting conditions in real time.

Deep Inertia $L_p$ Half-Quadratic Splitting Unrolling Network for Sparse View CT Reconstruction

Sparse view computed tomography (CT) reconstruction poses a challenging ill-posed inverse problem, necessitating effective regularization techniques. In this letter, we employ $L_p$-norm ($0<p<1$) regularization to induce sparsity and introduce inertial steps, leading to the development of the inertial $L_p$-norm half-quadratic splitting algorithm. We rigorously prove the convergence of this algorithm. Furthermore, we leverage deep learning to initialize the conjugate gradient method, resulting in a deep unrolling network with theoretical guarantees. Our extensive numerical experiments demonstrate that our proposed algorithm surpasses existing methods, particularly excelling in fewer scanned views and complex noise conditions.
