Vector meson production associated with a lepton pair in $e^+$ $e^-$ annihilation

In this work, we investigate a novel production mechanism of vector mesons, exemplified by the production of a neutral vector meson associated with a lepton pair in $e^+e^-$ annihilation, i.e., $e^+e^-\to V l^+l^-$ ($V=J/ψ, ρ^0, ω, ϕ$, and $l=μ, τ$). These vector meson production channels can be precisely accounted within QED. The production rates of these processes are dominated by those diagrams where the vector meson is emitted from either the incident electron or positron, which exhibit a $\ln^2 m_l^2$ enhancement stemming from the triple collinear limit of leptons. Our numerical analysis indicates that the corresponding production rates are substantial enough to warrant the observation of these novel vector meson production channels at BESIII and Belle II experiments in near future.

Strange-antistrange and charm-anticharm asymmetries of pion in 't Hooft model

As a sequel of our preceding work [S. Hu et al., Phys. Rev. D 108 (2023) 9, 094040], we investigate the strange-antistrange and charm-anticharm asymmetries in the parton distribution functions (PDFs) of a light flavored meson, exemplified by the first excited pion in the 't Hooft model, {\it viz.}, QCD in two spacetime dimensions with infinite number of colors. Counted as an ${\cal O}(1/N_c)$ effect, the intrinsic strange content necessarily originates from the higher Fock component of the light flavored meson, which entails infinite towers of $K$ and $\overline{K}$ mesons. Numerical studies reveal that, with $m_u/m_d=1/2$, the $s$-$\bar{s}$ and $c$-$\bar{c}$ asymmetries of the first excited $π^-$ can reach per cents level. While the $s$-$\bar{s}$ asymmetry predicted from the meson cloud model (MCM) grossly align with the rigorous approach, there exists severe discrepancy between two approaches on the $c$-$\bar{c}$ asymmetry.

Absence of ferromagnetic instability and weak spin-orbit coupling effect in AV$_3$Sb$_5$ (A = Cs, Rb, and K)

A family of V-based kagome metals AV$_3$Sb$_5$ (A = Cs, Rb, K) presents an intriguing platform for exploring the interplay of time-reversal symmetry breaking, nontrivial topological bands, and electron correlations, resulting in a range of exotic quantum states, including the anomalous Hall effect, unconventional charge density waves, and superconductivity. These features prompt critical questions regarding the roles of magnetism and spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in these systems. Our density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrate a notable sensitivity of the magnetic properties to the choice of $k$-point mesh used in Brillouin zone integrations. Specifically, we find that using a dense $k$-point mesh yields a nonmagnetic pristine phase characterized by paramagnetic susceptibility, consistent with the recently observed Pauli paramagnetic behavior in single crystalline samples at high temperatures. In contrast, a coarser $k$-point mesh significantly increases the density of states at the Fermi level, inducing a ferromagnetic instability that satisfies the Stoner criterion. Moreover, our results show that the effect of SOC on both the geometric and electronic structures is minimal, with only a slight gap opening at the Dirac points, indicating a weak SOC influence in these materials. Importantly, our DFT band structure calculations closely align with angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy data, reinforcing the notion of weak electron correlations in these kagome metals. This refined understanding challenges recent theoretical assertions that the interplay of magnetism, SOC, and electron correlations is essential for determining the nature of charge density waves in AV$_3$Sb$_5$.

A tale of Bethe logarithms: leptonic widths of $χ_{cJ}$ and Lamb shift

The rare annihilation decays of $P$-wave spin-triplet quarkonia into lepton pair have to proceed via two-photon intermediate state, which are plagued with the infrared divergence symptom. We recognize that the physical root of the IR divergence and its remedy is the same as the Lamb shift in QED. In this work we provide a complete solution to this IR problem by including the effect of the higher Fock component of the $χ_{cJ}$ state, {\it viz.}, the $c\bar{c}(^3S_1^{(1)})$ pair accompanied with a very long wavelength photon. Adding the contributions from the leading and next-to-leading order Fock components together, we arrive at the IR finite and factorization scale independent predictions for leptonic widths of $χ_{cJ}(nP)$. The Bethe logarithms associated with these exclusive reactions are found to have rather different traits from those associated with Lamb shift. We present numerical predictions by employing several influential quark potential models. The predicted leptonic widths of $χ_{cJ}(nP)$ are sizable and the observation prospect for $e^+e^-\to χ_{cJ}(1P,2P)$ at BESIII looks bright. The future observation of $e^+e^-\to X(3872)$ will shed important light on the $c\bar{c}$ content of the $X(3872)$ meson.

Next-to-leading-order electroweak correction to $H\to Z^0γ$

Inspired by the recent observation of the Higgs boson radiative decay into $Z^0$ by {\tt ATLAS} and {\tt CMS} Collaborations, we investigate the next-to-leading-order (NLO) electroweak correction to this rare decay process in Standard Model (SM). Implementing the on-shell renormalization scheme, we find that the magnitude of the NLO electroweak correction may reach $7\%$ of the leading order (LO) prediction, much more significant than that of the NLO QCD correction, which is merely about $0.3\%$. After incorporating the ${\cal O}(α)$ correction, the predicted partial width from various $α$ schemes tend to converge to each other. Including both NLO electroweak and QCD corrections, the SM prediction for the branching fraction shifts from the LO value of $(1.40-1.71)\times 10^{-3}$ to $(1.55\pm 0.06)\times 10^{-3}$, considerably lower than the measured value ${\cal B}_{\rm exp}[H\to Z^0γ]=(3.4\pm 1.1)\times 10^{-3}$. Resolving this alarming discrepancy clearly calls for further theoretical investigations, and, more importantly, experimental efforts from {\tt HL-LHC} and the prospective Higgs factories such as {\tt CEPC} and {\tt FCC-ee}.

Photoproduction of fully charmed tetraquark at electron-ion colliders

In this work, we investigate the inclusive photoproduction of the $C$-odd, $S$-wave fully charmed tetraquark at electron-ion colliders within the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization framework, at the lowest order in velocity and $α_s$. The value of the NRQCD long-distance matrix element is estimated from two phenomenological potential models. Our studies reveal that the photoproduction of the $1^{+-}$ fully charmed tetraquark may be difficult to observe at HERA and the EicC; nevertheless, its observation prospect at the EIC appears to be bright.

Two-loop QCD corrections to Higgs radiative decay to vector quarkonium

The exclusive production of $J/ψ$ through Higgs boson radiative decay may serve a clean channel to extracting the charm quark Yukawa coupling. We calculate the two-loop QCD corrections to $H\rightarrow J/ψ(Υ)+γ$ using an optimized nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) approach. We compute the ${\cal O}(α_s^2)$ correction in the direct channel, where Higgs directly couples to $c\bar{c}$, as well as the ${\cal O}(α_s)$ correction in the indirect channel, {\it viz.}, $H\toγ^*γ$ followed by the virtual photon fragmentation into $J/ψ$. Incorporating the destructive interference between the direct and indirect channels, we present to date the most accurate predictions for Higgs boson radiative decay into vector quarkonium, $\mathcal{B}(H\rightarrow J/ψ+γ) = 3.27_{-0.07}^{+0.30}{}^{+0.06}_{-0.06}{}_{-0.13}^{+0.13}\times 10^{-6}$, and $\mathcal{B}(H\rightarrow Υ+γ)= 1.34_{-0.31}^{+0.75}{}^{+0.25}_{-0.20}{}^{+0.05}_{-0.05}\times 10^{-8}$.

Next-to-next-to-leading-order QCD corrections to pion electromagnetic form factors

We investigate the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD radiative corrections to the pion electromagnetic form factor with large momentum transfer. We explicitly verify the validity of the collinear factorization to two-loop order for this observable, and obtain the respective IR-finite two-loop hard-scattering kernel in the closed form. The NNLO QCD correction turns to be positive and significant. Incorporating this new ingredient of correction, we then make a comprehensive comparison between the finest theoretical predictions and numerous pion form factor measurements in both space-like and time-like regions. Our phenomenological analysis provides strong constraint on the second Gegenbauer moment of the pion light-cone distribution amplitude (LCDA) obtained from recent lattice QCD studies.

Confronting perturbative QCD with the hardest exclusive reactions: kaon electromagnetic form factors

Among countless channels of hard exclusive reactions, the kaon electromagnetic form factors (EMFFs) are of special interest, which have been measured up to $Q^2 \sim 50\;{\rm GeV}^2$ in the timelike domain. The kaon EMFFs thereby serve an ideal platform to critically examine the validity and effectiveness of perturbative QCD (pQCD) in accounting for hard exclusive processes. In this work we confront the pQCD predictions that incorporate the next-to-next-to-leading-order (NNLO) perturbative corrections, with the available kaon EMFFs data set from experimental measurements and from lattice predictions. The inclusion of the NNLO corrections turns out to have a substantial and positive impact. If the profiles of the kaon light-cone distribution amplitudes (LCDAs) are taken from the recent lattice QCD prediction by {\tt LPC} Collaboration, the satisfactory agreement between theory and data can be reached for both charged and neutral kaons, in both spacelike and timelike large-$Q^2$ domains.

Light quark mass dependence of nucleon mass to two-loop order

We investigate the nucleon self energy through the sixth chiral order in the covariant $SU(2)$ chiral perturbation theory ($χ$PT) in the single baryon sector. The validity of the extended on-mass-shell (EOMS) renormalization scheme is explicitly verified to two-loop order, manifested by the miraculous cancellation of all nonlocal divergences and power-counting-breaking (PCB) terms that are nonanalytic in pion mass. Using the $σ_{πN}$ term determined from the latest lattice simulation to constrain some unknown higher-order low energy constants (LECs), we predict the nucleon mass in the chiral limit to be $856.6\pm 1.7$ MeV. It is found that the EOMS scheme exhibits quite satisfactory convergence behavior through ${\cal O}(q^6)$ around physical point. We also predict the pion mass dependence of the nucleon mass to the accuracy of ${\cal O}(q^6)$, which is in satisfactory agreement with the recent lattice results over a wide range of pion mass.

Soft pattern of gravitational Rutherford scattering from heavy target mass expansion

We investigate the soft behavior of the tree-level Rutherford scattering processes mediated via $t$-channel one-graviton exchange. We consider two types of Rutherford scattering processes, {\it e.g.}, a low-energy massless structureless projectile (up to spin-$1$) hits a static massive composite particle carrying various spins (up to spin-$2$), and a slowly-moving light projectile hits a heavy static composite target. The unpolarized cross sections in the first type are found to exhibit universal forms at the first two orders in $1/M$ expansion, yet differ at the next-to-next-to-leading order, though some terms at this order still remain universal or depend on the target spin in a definite manner. The unpolarized cross sections in the second type are universal at the lowest order in projectile velocity expansion and through all orders in $1/M$, independent of the spins of both projectile and target. The universality partially breaks down at relative order-$v^2/M^2$, albeit some terms at this order still depend on the target spin in a specific manner.

Exclusive production of double light neutral mesons at the $e^+e^-$ colliders

In this work we investigate the exclusive production of a pair of light neutral mesons in $e^+e^-$ annihilation, where the final state bears an even $C$-parity. The production processes can be initiated via the photon fragmentation or the non-fragmentation mechanism. While the fragmentation contribution can be rigorously accounted, the non-fragmentation contributions are calculated within the framework of collinear factorization, where only the leading-twist light-cone distribution amplitudes (LCDAs) of mesons are considered. Mediately solely by the non-fragmentation mechanism, the production rates of double light neutral pseudoscalar mesons are too small to be observed at the commissioning $e^+e^-$ facilities. In contrast, the production rates of a pair of light neutral vector mesons are greatly amplified owing to the significant kinematic enhancement brought by the fragmentation mechanism. It is found that, at $\sqrt{s}=3.77$ GeV, after including the destructive interference between the non-fragmentation and fragmentation contributions, the production rates for $e^+e^-\to ρ^{0}ρ^{0}$ and $ρ^0ω$ can be lowered by about 10\% and 30\% relative to the fragmentation predictions. Future precise measurement of these exclusive double neutral vector meson production channels at {\tt BESIII} experiment may provide useful constraints on the LCDAs of light vector mesons.

Driving Mechanism and Dynamic Fluctuations of Charge Density Waves in the Kagome Metal ScV$_6$Sn$_6$

In a new family of V-based kagome metals RV$_6$Sn$_6$ (R = Sc, Y, La), only ScV$_6$Sn$_6$ was observed to exhibit the unusual charge density wave (CDW) with a $\sqrt{3}{\times}\sqrt{3}$ in-plane ordering and a tripling of the unit cell along the $c$-axis. However, the driving mechanism of such a $\sqrt{3}{\times}\sqrt{3}{\times}$3 CDW order is elusive. Here, using first-principles density-functional theory calculations, we demonstrate that the $\sqrt{3}{\times}\sqrt{3}{\times}$2 or $\sqrt{3}{\times}\sqrt{3}{\times}$3 CDW order is driven by a Jahn-Teller-like effect where the interlayer dimerization of Sn atoms in kagome bilayers is accompanied by a charge redistribution between such Sn atoms and its associated gap opening. It is revealed that the free energy of the $\sqrt{3}{\times}\sqrt{3}{\times}$3 phase becomes lower than that of the $\sqrt{3}{\times}\sqrt{3}{\times}$2 phase above $T_{\rm CDW}$ mostly due to the emergence of a large configurational entropy. Such a high-entropy phase shows dynamic fluctuations between its degenerate configurations but, as the temperature lowers below $T_{\rm CDW}$, it can be kinetically trapped to release a sizable entropy. Our findings not only identify the driving mechanism and order-disorder transition of the CDW in ScV$_6$Sn$_6$ but also provide an ideal platform for investigating strong CDW fluctuations in V-based kagome metals.

Hard-scattering approach to strongly hindered electric dipole transitions between heavy quarkonia

The conventional wisdom in dealing with electromagnetic transition between heavy quarkonia is the multipole expansion, when the emitted photon has a typical energy of order quarkonium binding energy. Nevertheless, in the case when the energy carried by the photon is of order typical heavy quark momentum, the multipole expansion doctrine is expected to break down. In this work, we apply the "hard-scattering" approach originally developed to tackle the strongly hindered magnetic dipole ($M1$) transition [Y.~Jia {\it et al.}, Phys. \ Rev. \ D. 82, 014008 (2010)] to the strongly hindered electric dipole ($E1$) transition between heavy quarkonia. We derive the factorization formula for the strongly hindered $E1$ transition rates at the lowest order in velocity and $α_s$ in the context of the non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD), and conduct a detailed numerical comparison with the standard predictions for various bottomonia and charmonia $E1$ transition processes.

Double-Real-Virtual and Double-Virtual-Real Corrections to the Three-Loop Thrust Soft Function

We compute the ${\cal O}(α_s^3)$ double-real-virtual (RRV) and double-virtual-real (VVR) soft contributions to the thrust/zero-jettiness event shape. The result clears up one of the most stubborn obstacles toward the complete ${\cal O}(α_s^3)$ thrust soft function. The results presented here serve as the key input to realize the next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic prime (N${}^3$LL') % and even the next-to-next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic (N${}^4$LL) resummation of the thrust event shape. The obtained results also constitute the important ingredients of the $N$-jettiness-subtraction scheme at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N${}^3$LO).

Light-cone and quasi generalized parton distributions in the 't Hooft model

We present a comprehensive study of the light-cone generalized parton distribution (GPD) and quasi-GPD of a flavor-neutral meson in the 't Hooft model, {\it i.e.}, two-dimensional QCD (\QCDtw) in the $N_c\to\infty$ limit. With the aid of the Hamiltonian approach, we construct the light-cone GPD in terms of the meson's light-cone wave function in the framework of light-front quantization, and express the quasi-GPD in terms of the meson's Bars-Green wave functions and the chiral angle in the framework of equal-time quantization. We show that, both analytically and numerically, the quasi-GPD does approach the light-cone GPD when the meson is boosted to the infinite momentum frame, which justifies the tenet underlying the large momentum effective theory for the off-forward parton distribution. Upon taking the forward limit, the light-cone and quasi-GPDs reduce to the light-cone and quasi-PDFs. As a bonus, we take this chance to correct the incomplete expression of the quasi-PDFs in the 't Hooft model reported in our preceding work [Y. Jia et al. Phys. Rev. D 98, 054011 (2018)].

Heavy quark fragmentation function in 't Hooft Model

We carry out a comprehensive study of the quark-to-meson fragmentation function in the 't Hooft model, i.e., the two-dimensional Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) in $N_c\to \infty$ limit, following the operator definition pioneered by Collins and Soper. We apply the Hamiltonian approach as well as the diagrammatic approach to construct the functional form of the quark-to-meson fragmentation function in terms of the meson's light-cone wave function. For the sake of comparison, we also investigate the heavy quark fragmentation into quarkonium in two-dimensional QCD within the framework of the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization, at the lowest order in quark velocity. In the heavy quark limit, the quark fragmentation function obtained from the {\it ab initio} method agrees well, both analytically and numerically, with that obtained from the NRQCD approach. This agreement might be regarded as a nontrivial justification for the validity of both field-theoretical approaches to compute the heavy quark fragmentation function.

${\mathcal O}(α_s^2)$ corrections to $J/ψ+χ_{c0,1,2}$ production at $B$ factories

We compute the ${\mathcal O}(α_s^2)$ corrections to the exclusive channels $e^+e^-\to J/ψ+χ_{cJ}$ ($J=0,1,2$) at $\sqrt{s}=10.58$ GeV within the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization framework. The validity of NRQCD factorization at ${\cal O}(α_s^2)$ has been confirmed for these double-charmonium exclusive production processes. We analyze the impact of the $\mathcal{O}(α_s^2)$ corrections on the polarized and unpolarized cross sections, as well as the $J/ψ$ angular distributions, which largely reduce the renormalization scale dependence but increase the ${\mathcal O}(α_s)$ NRQCD predictions to some extent for $χ_{c0,1}$. With high numerical accuracy, our predictions for $σ(J/ψ+χ_{c1,2})$ through ${\mathcal O}(α_s^2)$ are compatible with the upper limit of the \texttt{Belle} measurement. Although the theoretical prediction for $σ(J/ψ+χ_{c0})$ is consistent with both \texttt{Belle} and \texttt{BaBar} measurements within uncertainties, there still exists serious tension between the predicted and the measured profiles for the $J/ψ$ angular distribution. Regarding the bright observation prospect of the $e^+e^-\to J/ψ+χ_{c1,2}$ channels in \texttt{Belle 2} experiment, it is interesting to compare the future measurements with our NRQCD predictions. The more accurate measurement of $e^+e^-\to J/ψ+χ_{0}$ at \texttt{Belle 2} will also help to clarify the long-standing puzzle of $J/ψ$ angular distribution.
