Optimal slit width for high-precision orbital angular momentum measurement using angular double-slit interferometry

We demonstrate an optimization of angular double-slit interferometry for accurate measurement of orbital angular momentum (OAM) of vortex beams. By scanning the dynamic double slits, the topological charge (TC) magnitude is directly determined from the oscillation frequency of the on-axis intensity. Based on repeated experimental investigations, we establish a critical criterion for slit width selection: to avoid phase truncation or period overlap, the angular width of each slit must exactly match the spiral phase period 2{\pi}/|l|. Under this optimal condition, the interference pattern exhibits the highest visibility and the measurement error is minimized. Experiments for l = 5, 10, and 15 are performed as representative examples, and the universality of this criterion is confirmed. Furthermore, by introducing an additional phase shift, the sign of the TC is unambiguously determined, as demonstrated for l = 10 and l = -15. This simple, robust method provides a high-precision pathway for OAM metrology.

Giant second-order nonlinearity in twisted bilayer graphene

In the second-order response regime, the Hall voltage can be nonzero without breaking the time-reversal symmetry, as long as the system is noncentrosymmetric. There are multiple mechanisms with different scaling rules that contribute to the nonlinear Hall effect (NLHE). The intrinsic contribution is closely related to the Berry curvature dipole and has been extensively investigated recently. The study of the extrinsic contribution, however, is scarce, although it can enter the NLHE even in the leading order. Here, we report a giant nonlinear transport response in TBG, in which the intrinsic mechanism is forbidden. The magnitude and direction of the second-order nonlinearity can be effectively tuned by the gate voltage. The peak value of the second-order Hall conductivity close to the full filling of the moir\'e band reaches 8.76 ${\mu}mSV^{-1}$, four-order larger than those detected in $WTe_2$. The observed giant second-order nonlinearity can be understood from the collaboration of the asymmetric scattering of electrons off the static (Coulomb impurities) and dynamic disorders (phonons) in noncentrosymmetric crystals. It is mainly determined by the skew-scattering contribution from impurities at 1.7 K. The skew-scattering from phonons has a much larger coupling coefficient as suggested by the scaling results, and becomes as important as the impurity contribution as the temperature rises. Our observations demonstrate the potential of TBG in studying nonlinear response and possible rectification applications.

Studies on the switching speed effect of the phase shift keying in SLED for generating high power microwave

SLAC energy doubler (SLED) type radio-frequency pulse compressors are widely used in large-scale particle accelerators for converting long-duration moderate-power input pulse into short-duration high-power output pulse. The phase shift keying (PSK) is one of the key components in SLED pulse compression systems. Performance of the PSK will influence the output characteristics of SLED, such as rise-time of the output pulse, the maximal peak power gain, and the energy efficiency. In this paper, high power microwave source based on power combining and pulse compression of conventional klystrons was introduced, the nonideal PSK with slow switching speed and without power output during the switching process were investigated, the experimental results with nonideal PSK agreed well with the analytical results.
