Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy of superconducting (La,Pr)3Ni2O7/SrLaAlO4 heterostructures

Ruddlesden-Popper bilayer nickelate thin film superconductors discovered under ambient pressure enable vast possibilities for investigating electronic structures of the superconducting state. Here, we report angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) measurements of 1, 2, and 3 unit-cell epitaxial La2.85Pr0.15Ni2O7 films grown on SrLaAlO4 substates, through pure-oxygen in situ sample transportation. Evidence obtained using photons with distinct probing depths shows that conduction is localized primarily at the first unit cell near the interface. Scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), together with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), indicates that interfacial Sr diffusion and pronounced p-d hybridization gradient may collectively account for the interfacial confinement of conduction. Fermi surface maps reveal hole doping compared to non-superconducting ambient-pressure bulk crystals. Measurements of dispersive band structures suggest the contributions from both Ni dx2-y2 and dz2 orbitals at the Fermi level. Density functional theory (DFT) + U calculations capture qualitative features of the ARPES results, consistent with a hole-doped scenario. These findings constrain theoretical models of the superconducting mechanism and suggest potential for enhancing superconductivity in nickelates under ambient pressure.

Some results on probabilities of moderate deviations

Let $\{X, X_{n}; n \geq 1\}$ be a sequence of i.i.d. non-degenerate real-valued random variables with $\mathbb{E}X^{2} < \infty$. Let $S_{n} = \sum_{i=1}^{n} X_{i}$, $n \geq 1$. Let $g(\cdot): ~[0, \infty) \rightarrow [0, \infty)$ be a nondecreasing regularly varying function with index $ρ\geq 0$ and $\lim_{t \rightarrow \infty} g(t) = \infty$. Let $μ= \mathbb{E}X$ and $σ^{2} = \mathbb{E}(X - μ)^{2}$. In this paper, on the scale $g(\log n)$, we obtain precise asymptotic estimates for the probabilities of moderate deviations of the form $\displaystyle \log \mathbb{P}\left(S_{n} - n μ> x \sqrt{ng(\log n)} \right)$, $\displaystyle \log \mathbb{P}\left(S_{n} - n μ< -x \sqrt{ng(\log n)} \right)$, and $\displaystyle \log \mathbb{P}\left(\left|S_{n} - n μ\right| > x \sqrt{ng(\log n)} \right)$ for all $x > 0$. Unlike those known results in the literature, the moderate deviation results established in this paper depend on both the variance and the asymptotic behavior of the tail distribution of $X$.

UI-TARS: Pioneering Automated GUI Interaction with Native Agents

This paper introduces UI-TARS, a native GUI agent model that solely perceives the screenshots as input and performs human-like interactions (e.g., keyboard and mouse operations). Unlike prevailing agent frameworks that depend on heavily wrapped commercial models (e.g., GPT-4o) with expert-crafted prompts and workflows, UI-TARS is an end-to-end model that outperforms these sophisticated frameworks. Experiments demonstrate its superior performance: UI-TARS achieves SOTA performance in 10+ GUI agent benchmarks evaluating perception, grounding, and GUI task execution. Notably, in the OSWorld benchmark, UI-TARS achieves scores of 24.6 with 50 steps and 22.7 with 15 steps, outperforming Claude (22.0 and 14.9 respectively). In AndroidWorld, UI-TARS achieves 46.6, surpassing GPT-4o (34.5). UI-TARS incorporates several key innovations: (1) Enhanced Perception: leveraging a large-scale dataset of GUI screenshots for context-aware understanding of UI elements and precise captioning; (2) Unified Action Modeling, which standardizes actions into a unified space across platforms and achieves precise grounding and interaction through large-scale action traces; (3) System-2 Reasoning, which incorporates deliberate reasoning into multi-step decision making, involving multiple reasoning patterns such as task decomposition, reflection thinking, milestone recognition, etc. (4) Iterative Training with Reflective Online Traces, which addresses the data bottleneck by automatically collecting, filtering, and reflectively refining new interaction traces on hundreds of virtual machines. Through iterative training and reflection tuning, UI-TARS continuously learns from its mistakes and adapts to unforeseen situations with minimal human intervention. We also analyze the evolution path of GUI agents to guide the further development of this domain.

Some asymptotic behaviors for the plug-in estimator of entropy

In the present paper, we consider the plug-in estimator of Shannon's entropy defined on a finite alphabet which is assumed to dynamically vary as the sample size increases. The asymptotic behaviors for the plug-in estimator, such as, asymptotic normality, Berry-Esseen bound and moderate deviation principle, are established.

Large deviation inequalities for the nonlinear unbalanced urn model

In the present paper, we consider the two-color nonlinear unbalanced urn model, under a drawing rule reinforced by an $\mathbb{R}^+$-valued concave function and an unbalanced replacement matrix. The large deviation inequalities for the nonlinear unbalanced urn model are established by using the stochastic approximation theory. As an auxiliary theory, we give a specific large deviation inequality for a general stochastic approximation algorithm.

Flat bands and distinct density wave orders in correlated Kagome superconductor CsCr$_3$Sb$_5$

Kagome metal CsV$_3$Sb$_5$ has attracted much recent attention due to the coexistence of multiple exotic orders and the associated proposals to mimic unconventional high temperature superconductors. Nevertheless, magnetism and strong electronic correlations -- two essential ingredients for unconventional superconductivity, are absent in this V-based Kagome metal. CsCr$_3$Sb$_5$ is a newly discovered Cr-based parallel of CsV$_3$Sb$_5$, in which magnetism appears with charge density wave and superconductivity at different temperature and pressure regions. Enhanced electronic correlations are also suggested by theoretical proposals due to the calculated flat bands. Here, we report angle-resolved photoemission measurements and first-principles calculations on this new material system. Electron energy bands and the associated orbitals are resolved. Flat bands are observed near the Fermi level. Doping dependent measurements on Cs(Cr$_x$V$_{1-x}$)$_3$Sb$_5$ reveal a gradually enhanced band renormalization from CsV$_3$Sb$_5$ to CsCr$_3$Sb$_5$, accompanied by distinct spatial symmetry breaking states in the phase diagram.

Cramer's moderate deviations of modularity in network

Complex networks play a crucial role in understanding physical, biological, social and technological systems. One of the most relevant features of graphs representing real systems is community structure. In this paper, for a specific partition of a given network, we prove the Cramer's moderate deviations of modularity for the partition when the size of the network gets large.

Subrelativistic Alternating Phase Focusing Dielectric Laser Accelerators

We demonstrate a silicon-based electron accelerator that uses laser optical near fields to both accelerate and confine electrons over extended distances. Two dielectric laser accelerator (DLA) designs were tested, each consisting of two arrays of silicon pillars pumped symmetrically by pulse front tilted laser beams, designed for average acceleration gradients 35 and 50 MeV/m respectively. The DLAs are designed to act as alternating phase focusing (APF) lattices, where electrons, depending on the electron-laser interaction phase, will alternate between opposing longitudinal and transverse focusing and defocusing forces. By incorporating fractional period drift sections that alter the synchronous phase between $\pm 60^\circ$ off crest, electrons captured in the designed acceleration bucket experience half the peak gradient as average gradient while also experiencing strong confinement forces that enable long interaction lengths. We demonstrate APF accelerators with interaction lengths up to 708 $μ$m and energy gains up to 23.7 $\pm$ 1.07 keV FWHM, a 25$\%$ increase from starting energy, demonstrating the ability to achieve substantial energy gains with subrelativistic DLA.

Two-dimensional phase diagram of the charge density wave in doped CsV$_3$Sb$_5$

Kagome superconductors AV$_3$Sb$_5$ (A = K, Rb and Cs) have attracted much recent attention due to the coexistence of multiple exotic orders. Among them, the charge density wave (CDW) order has been shown to host various unconventional behaviors. Here, we investigate the CDW order by a combination of both bulk and surface doping methods. While element substitutions in bulk doping change both carriers and the crystal lattice, the surface doping primarily tunes the carrier concentration. As such, our results reveal a two-dimensional phase diagram of the CDW in doped CsV$_3$Sb$_5$. In the lightly bulk doped regime, the existence of CDW order is reversible by tuning the carrier concentration. But excessive bulk doping permanently destroys the CDW, regardless of the carrier doping level. These results provide insights to the origin of the CDW from both electronic and structural degrees of freedom. They also open an avenue for manipulating the exotic CDW order in Kagome superconductors.

Well-posedness and propagation of chaos for jump-type McKean-Vlasov SDEs with irregular coefficients

In this paper, we study the existence and pathwise uniqueness of strong solutions for jump-type McKean-Vlasov SDEs with irregular coefficients but uniform linear growth assumption. Moreover, the propagation of chaos and the convergence rate for Euler's scheme of jump-type McKean-Vlasov SDEs are also obtained by taking advantage of Yamada-Watanabe's approximation approach and stopping time.

Anisotropic magnetoresistance in single cubic crystals: A theory and its verification

A theory of anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) and planar Hall effect (PHE) in single cubic crystals and its experimental verifications are presented for the current in the (001) plane. In contrast to the general belief that AMR and PHE in single crystals are highly sensitive to many internal and external effects and have no universal features, the theory predicts universal angular dependencies of longitudinal and transverse resistivity and various characteristics when magnetization rotates in the (001) plane, the plane perpendicular to the current, and the plane containing the current and [001] direction. The universal angular dependencies are verified by the experiments on Fe30Co70 single cubic crystal film. The findings provide new avenues for fundamental research and applications of AMR and PHE, because single crystals offer advantages over polycrystalline materials for band structure and crystallographic orientation engineering.

A unique van Hove singularity in kagome superconductor CsV$_{3-x}$Ta$_x$Sb$_5$ with enhanced superconductivity

Van Hove singularity (VHS) has been considered as a driving source for unconventional superconductivity. A VHS in two-dimensional (2D) materials consists of a saddle point connecting electron-like and hole-like bands. In a rare case, when a VHS appears at Fermi level, both electron-like and hole-like conduction can coexist, giving rise to an enhanced density of states as well as an attractive component of Coulomb interaction for unconventional electronic pairing. However, this van Hove scenario is often destroyed by an incorrect chemical potential or competing instabilities. Here, by using angle-resolved photoemission measurements, we report the observation of a VHS perfectly aligned with the Fermi level in a kagome superconductor CsV$_{3-x}$Ta$_x$Sb$_5$ (x~0.4), in which a record-high superconducting transition temperature is achieved among all the current variants of AV$_3$Sb$_5$ (A=Cs, Rb, K) at ambient pressure. Doping dependent measurements reveal the important role of van Hove scenario in boosting superconductivity, and spectroscopic-imaging scanning tunneling microscopy measurements indicate a distinct superconducting state in this system.

Tunable van Hove singularity without structural instability in Kagome metal CsTi$_3$Bi$_5$

In Kagome metal CsV$_3$Sb$_5$, multiple intertwined orders are accompanied by both electronic and structural instabilities. These exotic orders have attracted much recent attention, but their origins remain elusive. The newly discovered CsTi$_3$Bi$_5$ is a Ti-based Kagome metal to parallel CsV$_3$Sb$_5$. Here, we report angle-resolved photoemission experiments and first-principles calculations on pristine and Cs-doped CsTi$_3$Bi$_5$ samples. Our results reveal that the van Hove singularity (vHS) in CsTi$_3$Bi$_5$ can be tuned in a large energy range without structural instability, different from that in CsV$_3$Sb$_5$. As such, CsTi$_3$Bi$_5$ provides a complementary platform to disentangle and investigate the electronic instability with a tunable vHS in Kagome metals.

Physical essence of propagable fractional-strength optical vortices in free space

Fractional-order vector vortex beams are recently demonstrated to be new carriers of fractional-strength optical vortices. However, why can those new vortex beams formed by the combination of both unstable states propagate stably in free space? Here, we solve this scientific problem by revealing the physical essence of propagable fractional-strength optical vortices in free space.Three new understandings regarding those peculiar vortex beams are therefore proposed, namely Abbe diffraction limit, phase evolution of vortex beam, and phase binary time vector property. For the first one, owing to Abbe diffraction limit, the inherent polarization modes are intertwined together, thereby maintaining the entire peculiar vortex beams in free space. For the second one, we demonstrate the phase evolution of vortex beam, which is the physical reason of polarization rotation of fractional-order VVBs. For the third one, the phase is not merely a scalar attribute of light beam, but manifests a binary time vector property. This work provides entirely different physical viewpoints on the phase of vortex beam and Abbe diffraction limit, which may deepen our knowledge on the behavior of light beam in classical optics.

We obtain the same conclusions using a simple and clever way to simplify the proof and weaken the conditions in \cite{BHY} by the properties of Dini continuous and Taylor expansion.

High Gradient Silicon Carbide Immersion Lens Ultrafast Electron Sources

We present two compact ultrafast electron injector designs with integrated focusing that provide high peak brightness of up to $1.9*10^{12} A/m^2Sr^2$ with 10s of electrons per laser pulse using silicon carbide electrodes and silicon nanotip emitters. We demonstrate a few centimeter scale 96 keV immersion lens electron source and a 57 keV immersion lens electron source with a 19 kV/mm average acceleration gradient, nearly double the typical 10 kV/mm used in DC electron sources. The brightness of the electron sources is measured alongside start-to-end simulations including space charge effects. These sources are suitable for dielectric laser accelerator experiments, ultrafast electron diffraction, and other applications where a compact high brightness electron source is required.
