We show that every complete entire self-shrinking solution on complex Euclidean space to the Kahler-Ricci flow must be generated from a quadratic potential.
We derive a priori interior Hessian estimates for special Lagrangian equation with critical and supercritical phases in general higher dimensions. Our unified approach leads to sharper estimates even for the previously known three dimensional and convex solution cases.
We prove longtime existence and estimates for solutions to a fully nonlinear Lagrangian parabolic equation with locally $C^{1,1}$ initial data $u_0$ satisfying either (1) $-(1+η) I_n\leq D^2u_0 \leq (1+η)I_n$ for some positive dimensional constant $η$, (2) $u_0$ is weakly convex everywhere or (3) $u_0$ satisfies a large supercritical Lagrangian phase condition.
We construct singular solutions to special Lagrangian equa- tions with subcritical phases and minimal surface systems. A priori estimate breaking families of smooth solutions are also produced cor- respondingly. A priori estimates for special Lagrangian equations with certain convexity are largely known by now.
We show that (a) any entire graphic self-shrinking solution to the Lagrangian mean curvature flow in ${\mathbb C}^{m}$ with the Euclidean metric is flat; (b) any space-like entire graphic self-shrinking solution to the Lagrangian mean curvature flow in ${\mathbb C}^{m}$ with the pseudo-Euclidean metric is flat if the Hessian of the potential is bounded below quadratically; and (c) the Hermitian counterpart of (b) for the Kähler Ricci flow.
The coupling between negative and positive index medium waveguides is investigated theoretically in this paper. A coupled mode theory is developed for such a waveguide system and its validity is verified. Interesting phenomena in the coupled waveguides are demonstrated, which occur in the case when the negative index medium waveguide in isolation guides its mode backward. A new type of coupled mode solution that varies exponentially with the coupling length is found in the special case when the propagation constants of two individual waveguides are nearly the same. A coupler operating in this case is insensitive to the coupling length, and its coupling efficiency can reach 100% as long as the coupling length is long enough. However, when the propagation constants of the two individual waveguides differ greatly, the coupled mode solution is still a periodic function of the coupling length, but the coupled power is output backward. In addition, the modes in the composite waveguide system are also studied using the coupled mode theory, and their fundamental properties are revealed.
We derive a Liouville type result for special Lagrangian equations with certain "convexity" and restricted linear growth assumptions on the solutions.
We derive a priori interior Hessian and gradient estimates for special Lagrangian equation of phase at least a critical value in dimension three.
We derive a priori interior Hessian estimates for the special Lagrangian equation $σ_{2}=1$ in dimension three.
We derive explicit, uniform, a priori interior Hessian and gradient estimates for special Lagrangian equations of all phases in dimension two.
We show that any global solution to the special Lagrangian equations with the phase larger than a critical value must be quadratic.
We classify homogeneous degree $d\neq2$ solutions to fully nonlinear elliptic equations.
The concept of Lorentz scalar quark confinement has a long history and is still widely used despite its well-known theoretical faults. We point out here that the predictions of scalar confinement also conflict directly with experiment. We investigate the dependence of heavy-light meson mass differences on the mass of the light quark. In particular, we examine the strange and non-strange D mesons. We find that the predictions of scalar confinement are in considerable conflict with measured values.
We construct smooth metrics on 2-manifold with nonpositive Gauss curvature which cannot be (C^3) locally isometrically embedded in R^3. Moreover, the Gauss curvature of the metric can be made negative except for one point.
We prove that any homogeneous order one solution to 3-d nondivergence elliptic equations must be linear.
We derive a Bernstein type result for the special Lagrangian equation, namely, any global convex solution must be quadratic. In terms of minimal surfaces, the result says that any global minimal Lagrangian graph with convex potential must be a hyper-plane.
We prove the doubling property of L-caloric measure corresponding to the second order parabolic equation in the whole space and in Lipschitz domains. For parabolic equations in the divergence form, a weaker form of the doubling property follows easily from a recent result, the backward Harnack inequality, and known estimates of Green's function. Our method works for both the divergence and nondivergence cases. Moreover, the backward Harnack inequality and estimates of Green's function are not needed in the course of proof.
