Cotorsion pairs in cluster categories of type $A_{\infty}^{\infty}$

In this paper, we give a complete classification of cotorsion pairs in a cluster category $\mathscr{C}$ of type $A^\infty_\infty$ via certain configurations of arcs, called $τ$-compact Ptolemy diagrams, in an infinite strip with marked points. As applications, we classify $t$-structures and functorially finite rigid subcategories in $\mathscr{C}$, respectively. We also deduce Liu-Paquette's classification of cluster tilting categories of $\mathscr{C}$ and Ng's classification of torsion pairs in the cluster category of type $A_\infty$.

Two-photon superbunching of pseudothermal light in a Hanbury Brown-Twiss interferometer

Two-photon superbunching of pseudothermal light is observed with single-mode continuous-wave laser light in a linear optical system. By adding more two-photon paths via three rotating ground glasses,g(2)(0) = 7.10 is experimentally observed. The second-order temporal coherence function of superbunching pseudothermal light is theoretically and experimentally studied in detail. It is predicted that the degree of coherence of light can be increased dramatically by adding more multi-photon paths. For instance, the degree of the second- and third-order coherence of the superbunching pseudothermal light with five rotating ground glasses can reach 32 and 7776, respectively. The results are helpful to understand the physics of superbunching and to improve the visibility of thermal light ghost imaging.

Self-protected nanoscale thermometry based on spin defects in silicon carbide

Quantum sensors with solid state electron spins have attracted considerable interest due to their nanoscale spatial resolution.A critical requirement is to suppress the environment noise of the solid state spin sensor. Here we demonstrate a nanoscale thermometer based on silicon carbide (SiC) electron spins. We experimentally demonstrate that the performance of the spin sensor is robust against dephasing due to a self protected machenism. The SiC thermometry may provide a promising platform for sensing in a noisy environment ,e.g. biological system sensing.

Scalable fabrication of single silicon vacancy defect arrays in silicon carbide using focused ion beam

In this work, we present a method for targeted, maskless, and scalable fabrication of single silicon vacancy (VSi) defect arrays in silicon carbide (SiC) using focused ion beam. The resolution of implanted VSi defects is limited to a few tens of nanometers, defined by the diameter of the ion beam. Firstly, we studied the photoluminescence (PL) spectrum and optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) of the generated defect spin ensemble, confirming that the synthesized centers were in the desired defect state. Then we investigated the fluorescence properties of single VSi defects and our measurements indicate the presence of a photostable single photon source. Finally, we find that the Si++ ion to VSi defect conversion yield increases as the implanted dose decreases. The reliable production of VSi defects in silicon carbide could pave the way for its applications in quantum photonics and quantum information processing.

Superbunching pseudothermal light

A novel and simple superbunching pseudothermal light source is introduced based on common instruments such as laser, lens, pinhole and groundglass. $g^{(2)}(0)=3.66 \pm 0.02$ is observed in the suggested scheme by employing two rotating groundglass. Quantum and classical theories are employed to interpret the observed superbunching effect. It is predicted that $g^{(2)}(0)$ can reach $2^N$ if $N$ rotating groundglass were employed. These results are helpful to understand the physics of superbunching. The proposed superbunching pseudothermal light may serve as a new type of light to study the second- and higher-order coherence of light and have potential application in improving the visibility of thermal light ghost imaging.

High-efficiency spontaneous terahertz emission from electrically-excited plasmons in AlGaN/GaN two-dimensional electron gas

The advance of terahertz science and technology yet lays wait for the breakthrough in high-efficiency and high-power solid-state terahertz sources applicable at room temperature. Plasmon in two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) has long been pursued as a type of promising active medium for terahertz emitters. However, a high wall-plug efficiency sufficient for high-power operation has not been achieved. Here we report spontaneous terahertz emission tunable in a frequency range from 0.3 to 2.5 THz through electrical excitation of plasmon or plasmon-polariton modes in a grating-gate coupled AlGaN/GaN 2DEG at 7 K. A wall-plug efficiency ranging from $10^{-6}$ to $10^{-1}$ is found by tuning the energy (4.5 eV to 0.5 eV) of tunneling electrons between the grating gates and the 2DEG. The total emission power, albeit below 15 nW, is already detectable by using a direct terahertz field-effect transistor detector based on the same type of 2DEG. The findings indicate that both high-efficiency and high-power terahertz plasmon-polariton emission could be obtained by a proper injection of tunneling electrons with low energy and high current density.

Matching-Based Selection with Incomplete Lists for Decomposition Multi-Objective Optimization

The balance between convergence and diversity is a key issue of evolutionary multi-objective optimization. The recently proposed stable matching-based selection provides a new perspective to handle this balance under the framework of decomposition multi-objective optimization. In particular, the stable matching between subproblems and solutions, which achieves an equilibrium between their mutual preferences, implicitly strikes a balance between the convergence and diversity. Nevertheless, the original stable matching model has a high risk of matching a solution with a unfavorable subproblem which finally leads to an imbalanced selection result. In this paper, we propose an adaptive two-level stable matching-based selection for decomposition multi-objective optimization. Specifically, borrowing the idea of stable matching with incomplete lists, we match each solution with one of its favorite subproblems by restricting the length of its preference list during the first-level stable matching. During the second-level stable matching, the remaining subproblems are thereafter matched with their favorite solutions according to the classic stable matching model. In particular, we develop an adaptive mechanism to automatically set the length of preference list for each solution according to its local competitiveness. The performance of our proposed method is validated and compared with several state-of-the-art evolutionary multi-objective optimization algorithms on 62 benchmark problem instances. Empirical results fully demonstrate the competitive performance of our proposed method on problems with complicated Pareto sets and those with more than three objectives.

Coherent control of a strongly driven silicon vacancy optical transition in diamond

The ability to prepare, optically read out and coherently control single quantum states is a key requirement for quantum information processing. Optically active solid state emitters have emerged as promising candidates with their prospects for on chip integration as quantum nodes and sources of coherent photons for connecting these nodes. Under strongly driving resonant laser field, such quantum emitter can exhibit quantum behavior such as Autler-Townes splitting and Mollow triplet spectrum. Here we demonstrate coherent control of a strongly driven optical transition in silicon vacancy (SiV) center in diamond. Rapid optical detection of photons enabled the observation of time resolved coherent Rabi oscillations and the Mollow triplet from an optical transition of a single SiV defect. Detection with a probing transition further confirmed Autler-Townes splitting generated by a strong laser field. Coherence time of the emitted photons is shown to be comparable to its lifetime and robust under very strong driving laser field, which is promising for generation of indistinguishable photons.

Cluster categories for marked surfaces: punctured case

We study the cluster categories arising from marked surfaces (with punctures and non-empty boundaries). By constructing skewed-gentle algebras, we show that there is a bijection between tagged curves and string objects. Applications include interpreting dimensions of $\operatorname{Ext}^1$ as intersection numbers of tagged curves and Auslander-Reiten translation as tagged rotation. An important consequence is that the cluster(-tilting) exchange graphs of such cluster categories are connected.

Imaging around corners with single-pixel detector by computational ghost imaging

We have designed a single-pixel camera with imaging around corners based on computational ghost imaging. It can obtain the image of an object when the camera cannot look at the object directly. Our imaging system explores the fact that a bucket detector in a ghost imaging setup has no spatial resolution capability. A series of experiments have been designed to confirm our predictions. This camera has potential applications for imaging around corner or other similar environments where the object cannot be observed directly.

Fermionic ghost imaging

Ghost imaging with thermal fermions is calculated based on two-particle interference in Feynman's path integral theory. It is found that ghost imaging with thermal fermions can be simulated by ghost imaging with thermal bosons and classical particles. Photons in pseudothermal light are employed to experimentally study fermionic ghost imaging. Ghost imaging with thermal bosons and fermions is discussed based on the point-to-point (spot) correlation between the object and image planes. The employed method offers an efficient guidance for future ghost imaging with real thermal fermions, which may also be generalized to study other second-order interference phenomena with fermions.

High-efficiency generation of nanoscale single silicon vacancy defect array in silicon carbide

Color centers in silicon carbide have increasingly attracted attention in recent years owing to their excellent properties such as single photon emission, good photostability, and long spin coherence time even at room temperature. As compared to diamond which is widely used for holding Nitrogen-vacancy centers, SiC has the advantage in terms of large-scale, high-quality and low cost growth, as well as advanced fabrication technique in optoelectronics, leading to the prospects for large scale quantum engineering. In this paper, we report experimental demonstration of the generation of nanoscale $V_{Si}$ single defect array through ion implantation without the need of annealing. $V_{Si}$ defects are generated in pre-determined locations with resolution of tens of nanometers. This can help in integrating $V_{Si}$ defects with the photonic structures which, in turn, can improve the emission and collection efficiency of $V_{Si}$ defects when it is used in spin photonic quantum network. On the other hand, the defects are shallow and they are generated $\sim 40nm$ below the surface which can serve as critical resources in quantum sensing application.

Second-order Fermionic Interference with Independent Photons

The experimental study of the second-order interference with fermions is much less than the one with bosons since it is much more difficult to do experiments with fermions than with photons. Based on the conclusion that the behavior of two identical classical particles has exactly half fermionic and half bosonic characteristics (PRA \textbf{88}, 012130 (2013)), we have studied the second-order interference of fermions via the second-order interference of photons in Hanbury Brown-Twiss and Hong-Ou-Mandel interferometers, respectively. The experimental results are consistent with the theoretical predictions, which serve as an efficient guidance for the future interference experiments with fermions. The employed method offers an interesting and convenient way to study the coherence of fermions.

Silted algebras

We study endomorphism algebras of 2-term silting complexes in derived categories of hereditary finite dimensional algebras, or more generally of $\mathop{\rm Ext}\nolimits$-finite hereditary abelian categories. Module categories of such endomorphism algebras are known to occur as hearts of certain bounded $t$-structures in such derived categories. We show that the algebras occurring are exactly the algebras of small homological dimension, which are algebras characterized by the property that each indecomposable module either has injective dimension at most one, or it has projective dimension at most one.

Measuring mode indices of a partially coherent vortex beam with HBT type experiment

It is known that the cross-correlation function (CCF) of a partially coherent vortex (PCV) beam shows a robust link with the radial and azimuthal mode indices. However, the previous proposals are difficult to measure the CCF in practical system, especially in the case of astronomical objects. In this letter, we demonstrate experimentally that the Hanbury Brown and Twiss effect can be used to measure the mode indices of the original vortex beam and investigate the relationship between the spatial coherent width and the characterization of CCF of a PCV beam. The technique we exploit is quite efficient and robust, and it may be useful in the field of free space communication and astronomy which are related to the photon's orbital angular momentum.

Endomorphism algebras of 2-term silting complexes

We study possible values of the global dimension of endomorphism algebras of 2-term silting complexes. We show that for any algebra $A$ whose global dimension $\mathop{\rm gl. dim}\nolimits A\leq 2$ and any 2-term silting complex $\mathbf{P}$ in the bounded derived category ${D^b(A)}$ of $A$, the global dimension of $\mathop{\rm End}\nolimits_{D^b(A)}(\mathbf{P})$ is at most 7. We also show that for each $n>2$, there is an algebra $A$ with $\mathop{\rm gl. dim}\nolimits A=n$ such that ${D^b(A)}$ admits a 2-term silting complex $\mathbf{P}$ with $\mathop{\rm gl. dim}\nolimits \mathop{\rm End}\nolimits_{D^b(A)}(\mathbf{P})$ infinite.

Hanbury-Brown and Twiss effect without quantum interference in photon counting regime

Usually HBT effect can be interpreted by classical (intensity fluctuation correlation) and quantum (interference of two-photon probability amplitudes) theories properly at the same time. In this manuscript, we report a deliberately designed experiment in which two chaotic light beams has the same intensity fluctuation but mutual-orthogonal polarizations to each other so there will be no interference of two-photon probability amplitudes. Classical and quantum theory give different predictions on if there should be HBT (photon bunching) effect or not in the experiment. The experiment results are used to test the two different predictions. At the end, both the temporal and spatial HBT effects are observed.

CVD nanodiamonds with non-blinking, near transform-limited linewidths emitters

Near transform-limited single photon sources are required for perfect photon indistinguishability in quantum networks. Having such sources in nanodiamonds is particularly important since it can enable engineering hybrid quantum photonic systems. In this letter, we report the generation of optically stable, nearly transform-limited single silicon vacancy emitters in nanodiamonds. Lines as narrow as 325 MHz are reported, which is comparable to the lifetime limited linewidth. Moreover, the emitters exhibit minimal spectrum diffusion and absolute photostability, even if pumped well above saturation. Our results suggest that nanodiamonds can host color centers with supreme properties suitable for hybrid photonic devices and quantum information.
