Towards Bulk Locality: A Systematic Construction of Contact Interactions from Chord Diagrams

Chord diagrams encode boundary correlators in the double-scaled holographic Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model, but currently capture only a limited class of bulk interactions that yield pure power-law correlators. In this article, we investigate a general construction based on Fock-space flux models with arbitrary periodic lattice size, clarifies how lattice dimensions control probe configurations and bulk contact vertices. Developing a systematic matching scheme and using the chord path integral formalism, we compute three- to six-point contact correlators and reproduce a broad class of AdS$_2$ scalar contact Witten diagrams, including those with logarithmic singularities. The results demonstrate that chord diagrams, in full generality, provide a microscopic description of bulk contact interactions and thereby establish a principled framework for reconstructing bulk locality from boundary data.

Correlated helimagnetic configuration in a nonsymmorphic magnetic nodal semimetal

Nonsymmorphic magnetic Weyl semimetal materials such as ReAlX (Re=rare earth, X=Si/Ge) provide a unique opportunity to explore the correlated phenomena between Weyl fermions and nontrivial magnetic configurations. To be specific, we study a lattice model in which the magnetic configuration is determined by the competition among ferromagnetic (FM) interaction, the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, and the Kondo coupling $K_0$ to the Weyl fermion. Both quantum and finite-temperature phase transitions between FM and correlated nesting helical configurations are found. Different from the uncorrelated helimagnet that decouples from the Weyl fermions, this correlated helimagnet induces a magnetic Brillouin zone with a $K_0$-dependent nesting in the band structure of the conduction electrons instead of the monopole-like Weyl cone. By measuring the current induced by the chiral magnetic effect on the conduction electron with nesting Weyl nodes, one can distinguish the correlated nesting helical order from the ferromagnetism because the chiral magnetic effect is considerably suppressed in the former case. These properties we find here may explain the experimental observations in ReAlX.

Dissipationless topological quantum computation for Majorana objects in sparse-dense mixed encoding process

Topological quantum computation based on Majorana objects is subject to a significant challenge because at least some of the two-qubit quantum gates rely on the fermion (either charge or spin) parity of the qubits. This dependency renders the quantum operations involving these gates probabilistic when attempting to advance quantum processes within the quantum circuit model. Such an approach leads to significant information loss whenever measurements yield the undesired fermion parity. To resolve the problem of wasting information, we devise topological operations that allow for the non-dissipative correction of information from undesired fermion parity to the desired one. We will use the sparse-dense mixed encoding process for the controlled-NOT gate as an example to explain how corrections can be implemented without affecting the quantum information carried by the computational qubits. This correction process can be applied {to} either the undesired input qubits or the fermion parity-dependent quantum gates, and it works for both Majorana-zero-mode-based and Majorana-edge-mode-based topological quantum computation.

Intrinsic chiral topological superconductor thin films

Superconductors (SCs) with nontrivial topological band structures in the normal state have been discovered recently in bulk materials. When such SCs are made into thin films, quantum tunneling and Cooper pairing take place between the topological surface states (TSSs) on the opposing surfaces. Here, we find that chiral topological superconductivity with spontaneous time-reversal symmetry breaking emerges on the surface of such thin film SCs. There is a mirror symmetry that protects a novel nonunitary orbital and spin triplet pairing of the TSS. In the mirror diagonal space, the chiral topological SC manifests as two independent chiral $p$-wave spin-triplet pairing states, in which each is a two-dimensional superconducting analog of the Anderson-Brinkman-Morel state in superfluid $^3$He with in-plane exchange fields. A rich topological phase diagram governed by the nontrivial $\mathbb{Z}\oplus\mathbb{Z}$ topological invariant is obtained with gapless chiral Majorana edge modes and anyonic Majorana vortices. We further construct a three dimensional lattice model with a topological band structure and SC pairings, which is motivated by Fe-based SCs such as Fe(Te,Se). We demonstrate the realization of the proposed intrinsic chiral topological superconductor in the quasi-two-dimensional thin-film limit. Our findings enable thin-film SCs with nontrivial $Z_2$ band structures as a single-material platform for intrinsic chiral topological superconductivity with both vortex and boundary Majorana excitations for topological quantum device making.

Moir\'e semiconductors on twisted bilayer dice lattice

We propose an effective lattice model for the moir\'e structure of the twisted bilayer dice lattice. In the chiral limit, we find that there are flat bands at the zero-energy level at any twist angle besides the magic ones and these flat bands are broadened by small perturbation away from the chiral limit. The flat bands contain both bands with zero Chern number which originate from the destructive interference of the states on the dice lattice and the topological nontrivial bands at the magic angle. The existence of the flat bands can be detected from the peak-splitting structure of the optical conductance at all angles, while the transition peaks do not split and only occur at magic angles in twisted bilayer graphene.

Universal topological quantum computation with strongly correlated Majorana edge modes

Majorana-based quantum gates are not complete for performing universal topological quantum computation while Fibonacci-based gates are difficult to be realized electronically and hardly coincide with the conventional quantum circuit models. In Ref. \cite{hukane}, it has been shown that a strongly correlated Majorana edge mode in a chiral topological superconductor can be decomposed into a Fibobacci anyon $\tau$ and a thermal operator anyon $\varepsilon$ in the tricritical Ising model. The deconfinement of $\tau$ and $\varepsilon$ via the interaction between the fermion modes yields the anyon {collisions} and gives the braiding of either $\tau$ or $\varepsilon$. With these braidings, the complete members {of} a set of universal gates, the Pauli gates, the Hadamard gate and extra phase gates for 1-qubit as well as controlled-not gate for 2-qubits, are topologically assembled. Encoding quantum information and reading out the computation results can be carried out through electric signals. With the sparse-dense mixed encodings, we set up the quantum circuit {where the controlled-not gate turns out { to be} a probabilistic gate} and design the corresponding devices with thin films of the chiral topological superconductor. As an example of the universal topological quantum computing, we show the application to Shor's integer factorization algorithm.

Topological superconductor from superconducting topological surface states and fault-tolerant quantum computing

The chiral $p$-wave superconductor/superfluid in two dimensions (2D) is the simplest and most robust system for topological quantum computation . Candidates for such topological superconductors/superfluids in nature are very rare. A widely believed chiral $p$-wave superfluid is the Moore-Read state in the $\nu=\frac{5}2$ fractional quantum Hall effect, although experimental evidence are not yet conclusive. Experimental realizations of chiral $p$-wave superconductors using quantum anomalous Hall insulator-superconductor hybrid structures have been controversial. Here we report a new mechanism for realizing 2D chiral $p$-wave superconductors on the surface of 3D $s$-wave superconductors that have a topological band structure and support superconducting topological surface states (SC-TSS), such as the iron-based superconductor Fe(Te,Se). We find that tunneling and pairing between the SC-TSS on the top and bottom surfaces in a thin film or between two opposing surfaces of two such superconductors can produce an emergent 2D time-reversal symmetry breaking chiral topological superconductor. The topologically protected anyonic vortices with Majorana zero modes as well as the chiral Majorana fermion edge modes can be used as a platform for more advantageous non-abelian braiding operations. We propose a novel device for the CNOT gate with six chiral Majorana fermion edge modes, which paves the way for fault-tolerant universal quantum computing.

Quantum chaos associated with emergent ergosurface in transition layer between type-I and type-II Weyl semimetals

We present emergent ergosurfaces (ES) in a transition layer between type-I and type-II Weyl semimetals (WSMs). The Hawking temperature defined by the surface gravity at the acoustic event horizon which coincides with the ES when the tangent velocity $v_{\parallel}$ is small is in a measurable interval. On the type-II WSM side, i.e., inside the {ES when $v_{\parallel}$ is large}, the motion of the quasiparticles may be chaotic {after} a critical surface as they are governed by an effective inverted oscillator potential induced by the mismatch between the type-I and type-II Weyl nodes. In a relevant lattice model, we calculate out of time ordered correlators (OTOCs). We find that the OTOCs are fast scrambling with a quantum Lyapunov exponent in high temperature and the scrambling is saturated after the Ehrenfest time. This confirms the quantum chaotic behavior.

Magneto-optical Conductance of Kane Fermion Gas in Low Frequencies

Kane fermion is the counterpart of the Dirac fermion with pseudospin-1. Due to the existence of a bunch of gapless modes associated with Landau levels, the magnetic transport property of Kane fermion gas is very different from that of the Dirac semimetal. We calculate the magneto-optical conductance of the Kane fermion gas. We find that these gapless modes will contribute to a series of resonant peaks in low frequencies. We find that these peaks can explain the low frequency absorbance spectrum in a recent experiment for the Kane fermion material Hg$_{1-x}$Cd$_x$Te.
