Improved Ultrasound Attenuation Coefficient Estimation Using Spectral Normalization on Local Interference-Free Single-Scatterer Power Spectrum

Ultrasound attenuation coefficient estimation (ACE) can be utilized to quantify liver fat content, offering significant diagnostic potential in addressing the growing global public health issue of non-alcoholic fatty liver and other chronic liver diseases. Among ACE methods, the reference frequency method (RFM) proposed recently possesses the advantages of being system-independent and not requiring reference phantom. However, the presence of large oscillations in frequency power ratio decay curves leads to unstable ACE results with RFM, originating from noise as well as constructive and destructive interference in the backscattered signal's power spectrum. To address this issue, we propose an improved RFM version where a single-scatterer power spectrum estimator is incorporated to restore interference free single-scatterer power spectrum, thereby reducing oscillations in the frequency power ratio decay curves and greatly improving the accuracy of ACE.

Thermo-electrical modelling of the ATLAS ITk Strip Detector

In this paper we discuss the use of linked thermal and electrical network models to predict the behaviour of a complex silicon detector system. We use the silicon strip detector for the ATLAS Phase-II upgrade to demonstrate the application of such a model and its performance. With this example, a thermo-electrical model is used to test design choices, validate specifications, predict key operational parameters such as cooling system requirements, and optimize operational aspects like the temperature profile over the lifetime of the experiment. The model can reveal insights into the interplay of conditions and components in the silicon module, and it is a valuable tool for estimating the headroom to thermal runaway, all with very moderate computational effort.

LHC Dark Matter Working Group: Next-generation spin-0 dark matter models

Dark matter (DM) simplified models are by now commonly used by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations to interpret searches for missing transverse energy ($E_T^\mathrm{miss}$). The coherent use of these models sharpened the LHC DM search program, especially in the presentation of its results and their comparison to DM direct-detection (DD) and indirect-detection (ID) experiments. However, the community has been aware of the limitations of the DM simplified models, in particular the lack of theoretical consistency of some of them and their restricted phenomenology leading to the relevance of only a small subset of $E_T^\mathrm{miss}$ signatures. This document from the LHC Dark Matter Working Group identifies an example of a next-generation DM model, called $\textrm{2HDM+a}$, that provides the simplest theoretically consistent extension of the DM pseudoscalar simplified model. A comprehensive study of the phenomenology of the $\textrm{2HDM+a}$ model is presented, including a discussion of the rich and intricate pattern of mono-$X$ signatures and the relevance of other DM as well as non-DM experiments. Based on our discussions, a set of recommended scans are proposed to explore the parameter space of the $\textrm{2HDM+a}$ model through LHC searches. The exclusion limits obtained from the proposed scans can be consistently compared to the constraints on the $\textrm{2HDM+a}$ model that derive from DD, ID and the DM relic density.

Dark Matter with multi-annihilation channels and AMS-02 positron excess and antiproton

AMS-02 provided the unprecedented statistics in the measurement of the positron fraction from cosmic rays. That may offer a unique opportunity to distinguish the positron spectrum coming from various dark matter (DM) annihilation channels, if DM is the source of this positron excess. Therefore, we consider the scenario that the DM can annihilate into leptonic, quark, and massive gauge boson channels simultaneously with floating branching ratios to test this hypothesis. We also study the impacts from MAX, MED, MIN, and DC diffusion models as well as from isothermal, NFW, and Einasto DM density profiles on our results. We found two parameter regions that can satisfy both AMS-02 $\frac{e^+}{e^++e^-}$ and $\bar{p}/p$ datasets at 95\% CL. i) Under the NFW-MIN combination with $M_χ\subset[10,30]$ TeV. ii) Under the Einasto-DC combination with $M_χ\subset[500,1500]$ GeV.
