Mathematical modeling of quantum noise and the quality of hardware components of quantum computers

In the present paper methods and algorithms of modeling quantum operations for quantum computer integrated circuits design are developed. We examine different ways of quantum operation descriptions, including operator-sums, unitary representations, Choi-Jamiolkowski state representations and the corresponding chi-matrices, as well as quantum system evolution operators. The results of modeling of practically important quantum gates: SQiSW (square root of i-SWAP gate), controlled-NOT (CNOT), and controlled Z-transform (CZ) subject to different decoherence mechanisms are presented. These mechanisms include analysis of depolarizing quantum noise and processes of amplitude and phase relaxation. Finally, we consider error correction of phase flip, and the tasks of creating and maintaining the entanglement, as well as its breaking for two- and multi-qubit realizations of quantum operations. Importance of the present analysis for the quality and efficiency of quantum information technologies in practical applications is discussed.

Quantum polarization transformations in anisotropic dispersive medium

Based on the concept of chi-matrix and Choi-Jamiolkowski states we develop the approach of quantum process reconstruction. Special attention is paid to the adequacy of applied reconstruction models. The approach is applied to the statistical reconstruction of the polarization transformations in anisotropic and dispersive media realized by means of quartz plates and taking into account spectral shape of input states.

Hyper-relativistic mechanics and superluminal particles

Recent experiments by OPERA with high energy neutrinos, as well as astrophysics observation data, may possibly prove violations of underlying principles of special relativity theory. This paper attempts to present an elementary modification of relativistic mechanics that is consistent both with the principles of mechanics and with Dirac's approach to derivation of relativistic quantum equations. Our proposed hyper-relativistic model is based on modified dispersion relations between energy and momentum of a particle. Predictions of the new theory significantly differ from the standard model, as the former implies large Lorentz gamma-factors (ratio of particle energy to its mass). First of all, we study model relationships that describe hypothetical motion of superluminal neutrinos. Next, we analyze characteristics of Cherenkov radiation of photons and non-zero mass particles in vacuum. Afterwards, we derive generalized Lorentz transformations for a hyper-relativistic case, resulting in a radical change in the law of composition of velocities and particle kinematics. Finally, we study a hyper-relativistic version of Dirac equation and some of its properties. In present paper we attempted to use plain language to make it accessible not only to scientists but to undergraduate students as well.

Accuracy features for quantum process tomography using superconductor phase qubits

We propose a method for precision statistical control of quantum processes based on superconductor phase qubits. Using the universal quantum tomography method, we provide a detailed analysis of accuracy of tomography for a 2-qubit gate SQiSW, which arises due to capacitive coupling between qubits. The developed approach could be successfully applied for quality and efficiency problems of superconductor quantum information technologies.

Application of root density estimator to problems of statistical data analysis is demonstrated. Four sets of basis functions based on Chebyshev-Hermite, Laguerre, Kravchuk and Charlier polynomials are considered. The sets may be used for numerical analysis in problems of reconstructing statistical distributions by experimental data. Examples of numerical modeling are given.

Statistical properties of fidelity in quantum tomography protocols in Hilbert spaces of different dimensions

A throughout study of statistical characteristics of fidelity in different protocols of quantum tomography is given. We consider protocols based on geometry of platonic solids and other polyhedrons with high degree of symmetry such as fullerene and its dual polyhedron. Characteristics of fidelity in different protocols are compared to the theoretical level of the minimum possible level of fidelity loss. Tomography of pure and mixed states in Hilbert spaces of different dimension is analyzed. Results of this work could be used for a better control of quantum gates and quantum states in quantum information technologies.

Statistical Estimation of Quantum Tomography Protocols Quality

A novel operational method for estimating the efficiency of quantum state tomography protocols is suggested. It is based on a-priori estimation of the quality of an arbitrary protocol by means of universal asymptotic fidelity distribution and condition number, which takes minimal value for better protocol. We prove the adequacy of the method both with numerical modeling and through the experimental realization of several practically important protocols of quantum state tomography.

On the Informational Aspects of Interfering Quantum States

In present work we study informational measures for the problem of interference of quantum particles. We demonstrate that diffraction picture in the far field, which is given by probability density of particle momentum distribution, represents a mixture of probability densities of corresponding Schmidt modes, while the number of modes is equal to the number of slits at the screen. Also, for the first time we introduce informational measures to study the quality of interference picture and analyze the relation between visibility of interference picture and Schmidt number. Furthermore, we consider interference aspects of the problem of a quantum particle tunneling between two potential wells. This framework is applied to describing various isotopic modifications of ammonia molecule. Finally, we calculate limits on the maximum possible degree of entanglement between quantum system and its environment, which is imposed by measurements

Bell-type Models and Statistical Description of Quantum Systems

We consider dynamics of hidden variables for measurements in a generalized bell-type model for a single spin using natural assumptions. The evolution of the system, which can be expressed as dynamic chaos is studied. The equilibrium state that the system evolves to asymptotically is consistent with the predictions of quantum theory. The thesis of incompleteness of quantum mechanics in dynamic interpretation and completeness in statistical interpretation are developed. Conceptual problems of quantum mechanics such as violations of Bell inequalities, negative probabilities, complementarity principle, Einstein's locality and others are discussed.

Optimal protocol for quantum state tomography

We develop a practical quantum tomography protocol and implement measurements of pure states of ququarts realized with polarization states of photon pairs (biphotons). The method is based on an optimal choice of the measuring scheme's parameters that provides better quality of reconstruction for the fixed set of statistical data. A high accuracy of the state reconstruction (above 0.99) indicates that developed methodology is adequate.

The sixth Hilbert's problem and the principles of quantum informatics

By the example of a Fourier transform, the possibilities of Hilbert space geometry applications for statistical model construction are analyzed. In accordance with Bohr's complementarity principle, mutually-complementary coordinate and momentum representations are presented. It was demonstrated that the characteristic function of coordinate distribution may be considered as a convolution of the psi-function in momentum representation and vice versa. The naturalness of coordinate and momentum operators introduction is demonstrated. A probabilistic interpretation of Hilbert space geometry is given. Cauchy-Bunyakowsky (Cauchy-Schwartz), Cramer-Rao and uncertainty inequalities are considered in the same framework. The principal postulates of quantum informatics as a natural science are presented. It is demonstrated that quantum informatics serves as a theoretic basis for both probability theory and quantum mechanics.

Entanglement of Quantum States, Thermodynamical Statistical Distributions and Physical Nature of Temperature

Thermodynamical equilibrium is considered as an effect of quantum entangling of the vacuum state of a system. An explicit mathematical model of multi- particle entangled pure quantum states is developed and analyzed. In the framework, the process of measurement results in probability distributions that exactly correspond to the heat equilibrium of a system in a thermostat.

Polarization ququarts

We discuss the concept of polarization states of four-dimensional quantum systems based on frequency non-degenerate biphoton field. Several quantum tomography protocols were developed and implemented for measurement of an arbitrary state of ququart. A simple method that does not rely on interferometric technique is used to generate and measure the sequence of states that can be used for quantum communication purposes.

Schmidt information and entanglement in quantum systems

The purpose of this paper is to study entanglement of quantum states by means of Schmidt decomposition. The notion of Schmidt information which characterizes the non-randomness of correlations between two observers that conduct measurements of EPR-states is proposed. In two important particular cases - a finite number of Schmidt modes with equal probabilities and Gaussian correlations- Schmidt information is equal to Shannon information. A universal measure of a dependence of two variables is proposed. It is based on Schmidt number and it generalizes the classical Pearson correlation coefficient. It is demonstrated that the analytical model obtained can be applied to testing the numerical algorithm of Schmidt modes extraction. A thermodynamic interpretation of Schmidt information is given. It describes the level of entanglement and correlations of micro-system with its environment

Correspondence principle and evolution of physics

Based on the Bohr's correspondence principle it is shown that relativistic mechanics and quantum mechanics may be considered as generalizations of classical mechanics. A comparative description of relativistic and classical mechanics is given using three main principles: the definition of momentum, the main law of dynamics (Newton's second law) and the law of conservation of energy. The difference of relativistic mechanics from classical mechanics is due to the new definition of momentum that is proportional to energy and velocity. It is shown that new relativistic laws of dynamics make it necessary to change kinematical relations of classical mechanics such as the law of velocity composition, coordinate transformation etc. It is demonstrated that quantum mechanics may be considered as a rational statistical generalization of classical mechanics. Statistical conformities in quantum mechanics are fundamental and are not due to the incomplete information about the system. From all possible multi-parametric statistical models the root model is most remarkable. Constructing of a root multi-parametric statistical model leads to obtaining such frequencies and base functions in Fourier decomposition so that classical laws of motion are fulfilled in average. Root model leads to a consistent condition that connects eigenvectors and eigenvalues of a mechanical system that is described by a matrix equation of Heisenberg. Matrix equation of Heisenberg leads to an operator equation. The solution of the operator equation may be considered as the construction of Hamiltonian of the system and a move to the Schrodinger representation. The considered approach naturally leads to the notion of momentum operator, fundamental commutation relations, density matrix and Liouville equation construction etc.

Statistical Reconstruction of arbitrary spin states of particles: root approach

A method of quantum tomography of arbitrary spin particle states is developed on the basis of the root approach. It is shown that the set of mutually complementary distributions of angular momentum projections can be naturally described by a set of basis functions based on the Kravchuk polynomials. The set of Kravchuk basis functions leads to a multi-parametric statistical distribution that generalizes the binomial distribution. In order to analyze a statistical inverse problem of quantum mechanics, we investigated the likelihood equation and the statistical properties of the obtained estimates. The conclusions of the analytical researches are approved by the results of numerical calculations.

Analysis of localized Schmidt decomposition modes and of entanglement in atomic and optical quantum systems with continuous variables

We investigate the procedure of Schmidt modes extraction in systems with continuous variables. An algorithm based on singular value matrix decomposition is applied to the study of entanglement in an "atom-photon" system with spontaneous radiation. Also, this algorithm is applied to the study of a bi-photon system with spontaneous parametric down conversion with type-II phase matching for broadband pump. We demonstrate that dynamic properties of entangled states in an atom-photon system with spontaneous radiation are defined by a parameter equal to the product of the fine structure constant and the atom-electron mass ratio. We then consider the evolution of the system during radiation and show that the atomic and photonic degrees of freedom are entangling for the times of the same order of magnitude as the excited state life-time. Then the degrees of freedom are de-entangling and asymptotically approach to the level of small residual entanglement that is caused by momentum dispersion of the initial atomic packet. Finally, we investigate the process of coherence loss between modes in type-II parametric down conversion that is caused by non-linear crystal properties.
