High energy evolution for Gribov-Zwanziger confinement: solution to the equation

In this paper we solved the new evolution equation for high energy scattering amplitudethat stems from the Gribov-Zwanziger approach to the confinement of quarks and gluons. We found that (1) the energy dependence of the scattering amplitude turns out to be the same as for QCD BFKL evolution; (2) the spectrum of the new equation does not depend on the details of the Gribov-Zwanzinger approach and (3) all eigenfunctions coincide with the eigenfunctions of the QCD BFKL equation at large transverse momenta $κ\,\geq\,1$. The numerical calculations show that there exist no new eigenvalues with the eigenfunctions which decrease faster than solutions of the QCD BFKL equation at large transverse momenta. The structure of the gluon propagator in Gribov-Zwanziger approach, that stems from the lattice QCD and from the theoretical evaluation, results in the exponential suppression of the eigenfunctions at long distances and in the resolution of the difficulties, which the Colour Glass Condensate (CGC) and some other approaches, based on perturbative QCD, face at large impact parameters. We can conclude that the confinement of quark and gluons, at least in the form of Gribov-Zwanziger approach, does not influence on the scattering amplitude except solving the long standing theoretical problem of its behaviour at large impact parameters.

Strangeness and light fragment production at high baryon density

We discuss medium effects on light cluster production in the QCD phase diagram within a generalized Beth-Uhlenbeck (GBU) approach by relating Mott transition lines to those for chemical freeze-out. We find that in heavy-ion collisions at highest energies provided by the LHC light cluster abundances should follow the statistical model because of low baryon densities. At low energies in the nuclear fragmentation region, where the freeze-out interferes with the liquid-gas phase transition, selfenergy and Pauli blocking effects are important. At intermediate energies the HADES, FAIR and NICA experiments can give new information. The GBU approach provides new insights to strange hadron production in this energy domain for explaining the "horn" effects.

Advanced Bent Crystal Collimation Studies at the Tevatron (T-980)

The T-980 bent crystal collimation experiment at the Tevatron has recently acquired substantial enhancements. First, two new crystals - a 16-strip one manufactured and characterized by the INFN Ferrara group and a quasi-mosaic crystal manufactured and characterized by the PNPI group. Second, a two plane telescope with 3 high-resolution pixel detectors per plane along with corresponding mechanics, electronics, control and software has been manufactured, tested and installed in the E0 crystal region. The purpose of the pixel telescope is to measure and image channeled (CH), volume-reflected (VR) and multiple volume-reflected (MVR) beam profiles produced by bent crystals. Third, an ORIGIN-based system has been developed for thorough analysis of experimental and simulation data. Results of analysis are presented for different types of crystals used from 2005 to present for channeling and volume reflection including pioneering tests of two-plane crystal collimation at the collider, all in comparison with detailed simulations.

Crystal experiments on efficient beam extraction

Silicon crystal was channeling and extracting 70-GeV protons from the U-70 accelerator with efficiency of 85.3+-2.8% as measured for a beam of 10^12 protons directed towards crystals of 2 mm length in spills of 1-2 s duration. The experimental data follow very well the prediction of Monte Carlo simulations. This success is important to devise a more efficient use of the U-70 accelerator in Protvino and provides a crucial support for implementation of crystal-assisted collimation of gold ion beam in RHIC and slow extraction from AGS onto E952, now in preparation at Brookhaven Nat'l Lab. Future applications, spanning in the energy from sub-GeV (medical) to order of 1 GeV (scraping in the SNS, extraction from COSY) to order of 1 TeV and beyond (scraping in the Tevatron, LHC, VLHC), can benefit from these studies.

Progress in crystal extraction and collimation

Recent IHEP Protvino experiments show efficiencies of crystal-assisted slow extraction and collimation of 85.3+-2.8%, at the intensities of the channeled beam on the order of 10^12 proton per spill of 2 s duration. The obtained experimental data well follows the theory predictions. We compare the measurements against theory and outline the theoretical potential for further improvement in the efficiency of the technique. This success is important for the efficient use of IHEP accelerator and for implementation of crystal-assisted collimation at RHIC and slow extraction from AGS onto E952, now in preparation. Future applications, spanning in the energy from order of 1 GeV (scraping in SNS, slow extraction from COSY and medical accelerators) to order of 1 TeV and beyond (scraping in Tevatron, LHC, VLHC), can benefit from these studies.
