Phonon origin of high Tc in Superconducting cuprates

Eliashberg theory (ET) generalized for the account of the peculiar properties of the finite zone width electron-phonon (EP) systems with the non constant electron density of states, the electron-hole nonequivalence, chemical potential renormalization with doping and frequency, and electron correlations in the vertex function is used for the study of Tc in cuprates. The phonon contribution to the nodal anomalous electron Green function (GF) in cuprates is considered. The pairing on the full width of the electron zone was taken into account, not just on the Fermi surface. It is found that the finite zone width phenomenon in the newly derived Eliashberg equations for the finite zone width EP system together with the abrupt fall of the density of states above the Fermi surface are the crucial factors for the appearance of the high temperature superconductivity phenomenon. It is shown that near the optimal doping in the hole-doped cuprates high value is reproduced with the EP interaction constant obtained from tunnel experiments.

Influence of Cooper pairing on the inelastic processes in a gas of Fermi atoms

Correlation properties in ultracold Fermi gas with negative scattering length and its impact on the three-body recombination is analyzed. We find that Cooper pairing enhances the recombination rate in contrast to the decrease of this rate accompanying Bose-Einstein condensation in a Bose gas. This trend is characteristic for all interval of temperatures T<Tc.

Anomalous Hall effect for the phonon heat conductivity in paramagnetic dielectric

The theory of anomalous Hall effect for the heat transfer in a paramagnetic dielectric, discovered experimentally in [1], is developed. The appearance of the phonon heat flux normal to both the temperature gradient and the magnetic field is connected with the interaction of magnetic ions with the crystal field oscillations. In crystals with an arbitrary phonon spectrum this interaction creates the elliptical polarization of phonons. The kinetics related to phonon scattering induced by the spin-phonon interaction determines an origin of the off-diagonal phonon density matrix. The combination of the both factors is decisive for the phenomenon under consideration.

Formation of a condensed state with macroscopic number of phonons in ultracold Bose gases

A mechanism for the formation of a new type of stationary state with macroscopical number of phonons in condensed atomic gases is proposed. This mechanism is based on generating longitudinal phonons as a result of parametric resonance caused by a permanent modulation of the transverse trap frequency in an elongated trap. The phonon-phonon interaction predetermines the self-consistent evolution which is completed with macroscopic population of one from all levels within the energy interval of parametric amplification. This level proves to be shifted to the edge of this interval. All other levels end the evolution with zero population.

Condensation of phonons in an ultracold Bose gas

We consider the generation of longitudinal phonons in an elongated Bose-condensed gas at zero temperature due to parametric resonance as a result of the modulation of the transverse trap frequency. The nonlinear temporal evolution with account of the phonon-phonon interaction leads self-consistently to the formation of the stationary state with the macroscopic occupation of a single phonon quantum state.

The structure of the ground superfluid state in a gas of Fermi atoms near the Feshbach resonance

Within the framework of the variational approach the ground state is studied in a gas of Fermi atoms near the Feshbach resonance at negative scattering length. The structure of the originating superfluid state is formed by two coherently bound subsystems. One subsystem is that of quasi molecules in the closed channel and the other is a system of pairs of atoms in the open channel. The set of equations derived allows us to describe the properties of the ground state at an arbitrary magnitude of the parameters. In particular, it allows one to find a gap in the spectrum of single-particle Fermi excitations and sound velocity characterizing a branch of collective Bose excitations.

Relaxation of the Bose-condensate oscillations in the mesoscopic system at T=0

The general system is given of nonlinear equations describing dissipationless evolution of the oscillating Bose-condensate. The relaxation of transverse oscillations of the condensate in a trap of the cylindric symmetry is considered. The evolution occurs due to parametric resonance coupling the transverse mode with the longitudinal ones. The nonlinear rescattering in the subsystem of discrete longitudinal modes results in suppression of the return of energy, yielding dissipationless nonmonotonic relaxation of transverse oscillations in the condensate.

The nonlinear damping of Bose-Einstein condensate oscillations at ultra-low temperatures

We analyze the damping of the transverse breathing mode in an elongated trap at ultralow temperatures. The damping occurs due to the parametric resonance entailing the energy transfer to the longitudinal degrees of freedom. It is found that the nonlinear coupling between the transverse and discrete longitudinal modes can result in an anomalous behavior of the damping as a function of time with the partially reversed pumping of the breathing mode. The picture revealed explains the results observed in [16].

The anomalous tunneling of Bose-condensate excitations

We discuss the tunneling of phonon excitations across a potential barrier separating two condensate bulks. It is shown that the strong barrier proves to be transparent for the excitations at low energy $ε$. Moreover, the transmission is reduced with increasing $ε$ in contrast to the standard dependence. This anomalous behavior is due to an existence of the quasiresonance interaction. The origin of this interaction is a result of the formation of the special well determined by the density distribution of condensate in the vicinity of a high barrier.

The Damping of the Bose-Condensate Oscillations in a Trap at Zero Temperature

We discuss an existence of the damping for the radial condensate oscillations in a cylindric trap at zero temperature. The damping is a result of the parametric resonance leading to energy transfer from the coherent condensate oscillations to the longitudinal sound waves within a finite frequency interval. The parametric resonance is due to the oscillations of the sound velocity. The triggering amplitudes at zero temperature are associated with the zero-point oscillations.

The spectral properties of non-condensate particles in Bose-condensed atomic hydrogen

The strong spin-dipole relaxation, accompanying BEC in a gas of atomic hydrogen, determines the formation of a quasistationary state with a flux of particles in energy space to the condensate. This state is characterized by a significant enhancement of the low-energy distribution of non-condensate particles resulting in a growth of their spatial density in the trap. This growth leads to the anomalous reconstruction of the optical spectral properties of non-condensate particles.

Manifestation of superfluidity in an evolving Bose-condensed gas

We study the generation of excitations due to an ''impurity''(static perturbation) placed into an oscillating Bose-condensed gas in the time-dependent trapping field. It is shown that there are two regions for the position of the local perturbation. In the first region the condensate flows around the ''impurity'' without generation of excitations demonstrating superfluid properties. In the second region the creation of excitations occurs, at least within a limited time interval, revealing destruction of superfluidity. The phenomenon can be studied by measuring the damping of condensate oscillations at different positions of the ''impurity''.

Supercurrent Stability in a Quasi-1D Weakly Interacting Bose Gas

We discuss a possibility of observing superfluid phenomena in a quasi-1D weakly interacting Bose gas at finite temperatures. The weakness of interaction in combination with generic properties of 1D liquids can result in a situation when relaxational time of supercurrent is essentially larger than the time of experimental observation, and the behavior of the system is indistinguishable from that of a genuine superfluid.

The Rotational Structure of Molecules In the Quantum He4 and He3 Liquids

It is shown that the drastic distinction in the rotational structure of molecules in the He4 and He3 liquids observed in [1] is due to the difference in the spectral density of excitations regardless of the hydrodynamic properties. The large width of rotational levels in the He3 is determined by particle-hole excitations whereas the small density of phonon excitations results only in the small broadening of levels in the He4.

Quasicondensation in 2D Interacting Bose Gas: Quantum Monte Carlo Study

We present a detailed Monte Carlo study of correlations in an interacting two-dimensional Bose gas. The data for one-particle density matrix in coordinate representation are compared to the results for the local many-particle density correlators, which are responsible for the recombination rate in real experiments. We found that the appearance and growth of quasicondensate fluctuations changes local correlations between the particles well before the Kosterlitz-Thouless transition point. The amplitude of the $1/m!$-effect is very sensitive even to a rather moderate interaction, and is considerably smaller than its limiting value.

Collapse and Bose-Einstein condensation in a trapped Bose-gas with negative scattering length

We find that the key features of the evolution and collapse of a trapped Bose condensate with negative scattering length are predetermined by the particle flux from the above-condensate cloud to the condensate and by 3-body recombination of Bose-condensed atoms. The collapse, starting once the number of Bose-condensed atoms reaches the critical value, ceases and turns to expansion when the density of the collapsing cloud becomes so high that the recombination losses dominate over attractive interparticle interaction. As a result, we obtain a sequence of collapses, each of them followed by dynamic oscillations of the condensate. In every collapse the 3-body recombination burns only a part of the condensate, and the number of Bose-condensed atoms always remains finite. However, it can comparatively slowly decrease after the collapse, due to the transfer of the condensate particles to the above-condensate cloud in the course of damping of the condensate oscillations.

Evolution of Correlation Properties and Appearance of Broken Symmetry in the Process of Bose-Einstein Condensation

We consider the self-evolution of strongly non-equilibrium interacting Bose gas. Due to the mere fact of large (as compared to unity) occupation numbers in the initial state the problem is directly reduced to the question of temporal evolution of the statistical matrix diagonal in the coherent-state representation. Strictly speaking, gauge symmetry is not destroyed even when the long-range ordering is completed, owing to the ineviatble averaging over the ensemble. Actual symmetry breaking can occur only as a result of introducing a small term of the Hamiltonian violating conservation of particles, or quantum-mechanical measurement, also implying non-conservation of particles.
