Matrix-product operator dualities in integrable lattice models

Matrix-product operators (MPOs) appear throughout the study of integrable lattice models, notably as the transfer matrices. They can also be used as transformations to construct dualities between such models, both invertible (including unitary) and non-invertible (including discrete gauging). We analyse how the local Yang--Baxter integrable structures are modified under such dualities. We see that the $\check{R}$-matrix, that appears in the baxterization approach to integrability, transforms in a simple manner. We further argue for a broad class of MPO dualities that the usual Yang--Baxter $R$-matrix should be extended. This extended $R$-matrix satisfies modified algebraic relations, including a modified Yang--Baxter algebra previously identified in the unitary case, that altogether give a local integrable structure underlying the commuting transfer matrices of the dual model. We illustrate these results with two case studies, analysing an invertible unitary MPO and a non-invertible MPO both applied to the canonical XXZ spin chain. The former is the cluster entangler, arising in the study of symmetry-protected topological phases, while the latter is the Kramers--Wannier duality. We show several results for MPOs with exact MPO inverses that are of independent interest.

Lattice non-invertible symmetry from non-commuting transfer matrices

Conventional quantum integrability is encoded in a commuting algebra of transfer matrices. By contrast, several models possess additional non-commuting conserved charges with important physical consequences, yet the nature of the corresponding symmetry has remained elusive. Focusing on the XXZ spin chain at roots of unity, we show that the non-Abelian analogue of the commuting transfer-matrix algebra is governed by quadratic relations following from a new class of unbalanced Yang--Baxter/RLL relations. This quadratic algebra is shown to encode precisely the Onsager algebra, for which we construct explicit matrix-product representations of both its generators and its duality defect line. The latter obeys $\mathbb{Z}_N$ Tambara--Yamagami fusion rules, thereby providing a lattice realization of the topological defect lines of the compactified boson conformal field theory. Our results identify non-Abelian transfer-matrix algebras as a microscopic origin for Onsager symmetry and dualities in lattice models.

Exact Quantum Many-Body Scars in 2D Quantum Gauge Models

Quantum many-body scars (QMBS) serve as important examples of ergodicity-breaking phenomena in quantum many-body systems. Despite recent extensive studies, exact QMBS are rare in dimensions higher than one. In this paper, we study a two-dimensional quantum $\mathbb{Z}_2$ gauge model that is dual to a two-dimensional spin-$1/2$ XY model defined on bipartite graphs. We identify the exact eigenstates of the XY model with a tower structure as exact QMBS. Exploiting the duality transformation, we show that the exact QMBS of the XY model (and XXZ model) after the transformation are the exact QMBS of the dual $\mathbb{Z}_2$ gauge model. This construction is versatile and has potential applications for finding new QMBS in other higher-dimensional models.

Norms, overlaps and Yangian descendants for the Haldane-Shastry spin chain

The Haldane-Shastry spin chain is a prototypical integrable model with long-range interactions, notable for hosting quasiparticles with fractional statistics and serving as a discrete analogue of a conformal field theory. Its remarkable simplicity is closely tied to a full Yangian spin symmetry. While the highest-weight states for this symmetry are known explicitly, a systematic treatment of the descendant states, needed for the computation of various physical quantities, has remained incomplete. In this work, we provide a detailed construction of these descendants in terms of the algebraic Bethe ansatz following recent work of Ferrando et al. In the limit of extreme twist, it includes the Gelfand-Tsetlin basis. As an application, we derive product and determinant formulae for norms and overlaps of these states.

StomaD2: An All-in-One System for Intelligent Stomatal Phenotype Analysis via Diffusion-Based Restoration Detection Network

Stomata play a crucial role in regulating plant physiological processes and reflecting environmental responses. However, accurate and high-throughput stomatal phenotyping remains challenging, as conventional approaches rely on destructive sampling and manual annotation, restricting large-scale and field deployment. To overcome these limitations, a noninvasive restoration-detection integrated framework, termed StomaD2, is developed to achieve accurate and fast stomatal phenotyping under complex imaging conditions. The framework incorporates a diffusion-based restoration module to recover degraded images and a specialized rotated object detection network tailored to the small, dense, and cluttered characteristics of stomata. The proposed network enhances feature representation through three key innovations: a column-wise structure for global feature interaction, context-aware resampling and reweighting mechanism to improve multi-scale consistency, and a feature reassembly module to boost discrimination against complex backgrounds. In extensive comparisons, StomaD2 demonstrated state-of-the-art performance. On public Maize and Wheat datasets, it achieved accuracies of 0.994 and 0.992, respectively, significantly outperforming existing benchmarks. When benchmarked against ten other advanced models, including Oriented Former and YOLOv12, StomaD2 achieved a top-tier F1-score/mAP of 0.989. The framework is integrated into a user-friendly, field-operable system that supports the fast extraction of eight stomatal phenotypes, such as density and conductance. Validated on more than 130 plant species, StomaD2's results highlight its strong generalizability and potential for large-scale phenotyping, plant physiology analysis, and precision agriculture applications.

Towers of Quantum Many-body Scars from Integrable Boundary States

We construct several models with multiple quantum many-body scars (QMBS) using integrable boundary states (IBS). Specifically, we focus on the tilted Néel states, which are parametrized IBS for the spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain, and show that these states can be used to construct a tower of scar states. Our models exhibit periodic revival dynamics, showcasing a characteristic behavior of superpositions of QMBS. Furthermore, the tower of QMBS found in this study possesses a restricted spectrum generating algebra (RSGA) structure, indicating that QMBS are equally spaced in energy. This approach can be extended to two-dimensional models, which can be decomposed into an array of one-dimensional models. In this case, the tilted Néel states again serve as parent states for multiple scar states. These states demonstrate low entanglement entropy, marking them as exact scar states. Notably, their entanglement entropy adheres to the sub-volume law, further solidifying the nonthermal properties of QMBS. Our results provide novel insights into constructing QMBS using IBS, thereby illuminating the connection between QMBS and integrable models.

Rational $Q$-systems for integrable spin chains without $U(1)$ symmetry

The $Q$-system is an efficient method for finding complete physical solutions of Bethe ansatz equations, but so far its application has been confined to systems possessing $U(1)$ symmetry. We extend the rational $Q$-system framework to integrable spin chains without $U(1)$ symmetry, exemplified by the closed XXZ model with anti-diagonal twists and the open XXZ model with non-diagonal boundary fields. We demonstrate that the $Q$-system can be derived by combining $TQ$-relation with fusion relations of higher-spin transfer matrices. This yields $QQ$-relations analogous to the $U(1)$ symmetric case but incorporating additional inhomogeneous terms. We present numerical solutions that are validated against exact diagonalization, confirming that it generates all and exclusively physical solutions.

Global symmetries of quantum lattice models under non-invertible dualities

Non-invertible dualities/symmetries have become an important tool in the study of quantum field theories and quantum lattice models in recent years. One of the most studied examples is non-invertible dualities obtained by gauging a discrete group. When the physical system has more global symmetries than the gauged symmetry, it has not been thoroughly investigated how those global symmetries transform under non-invertible duality. In this paper, we study the change of global symmetries under non-invertible duality of gauging a discrete group $G$ in the context of (1+1)-dimensional quantum lattice models. We obtain the global symmetries of the dual model by focusing on different Hilbert space sectors determined by the $\mathrm{Rep}(G)$ symmetry. We provide general conjectures of global symmetries of the dual model forming an algebraic ring of the double cosets. We present concrete examples of the XXZ models and the duals, providing strong evidence for the conjectures.

Distributed Retrieval-Augmented Generation

As large language models (LLMs) become increasingly adopted on edge devices, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) is gaining prominence as a solution to address factual deficiencies and hallucinations by integrating external knowledge. However, centralized RAG architectures face significant challenges in data privacy and scalability. For instance, smart healthcare services often rely on collecting sensitive patient data and building a centralized knowledge base to provide better diagnosis and treatment advice, while privacy concerns significantly impede this process. Besides, maintaining a comprehensive and continuously updated knowledge base is costly, particularly in response to regional epidemics and rapidly mutating viruses. To address these challenges, this paper introduces Distributed Retrieval-Augmented Generation (DRAG), a novel framework that improves data privacy by eliminating the need for a centralized knowledge base and restoring data control to owners. DRAG incorporates a Topic-Aware Random Walk (TARW) algorithm that leverages LLMs to extract query topics and facilitate targeted peer discovery within a peer-to-peer network, enabling efficient knowledge retrieval in decentralized environments. Extensive experiments across three diverse datasets and LLMs demonstrate that DRAG with TARW achieves near-centralized RAG performance by using half as many messages as flooding. The code is available at https://github.com/xuchenhao001/DRAG.

Spectrum-preserving deformations of integrable spin chains with open boundaries

We discover a family of local deformations that leave part of the spectrum intact for strongly interacting and exactly solvable quantum many-body systems. Since the deformation preserves the Bethe Ansatz equations (BAE), it is dubbed the iso-BAE flow. Although all theories on the flow share the same BAE, the spectra are different. Part of the spectrum remains intact along the whole flow. Such states are protected by an emergent symmetry. The remaining parts of the spectrum change continuously along the flow and are doubly degenerate for even length spin chains. For odd length chains, the deformed spectrum also comprises doubly degenerate pairs apart from the sector with magnon number $(L+1)/2$, where $L$ is the length of the spin chain. We discuss the iso-BAE flow for the ${\rm XXX}_{1/2}$ model in detail and show that the iso-BAE flows exist for more general models including $q$-deformed XXZ as well as higher spin ${\rm XXX}_{s}$ spin chains.

Rational Q-systems at Root of Unity I. Closed Chains

The solution of Bethe ansatz equations for XXZ spin chain with the parameter $q$ being a root of unity is infamously subtle. In this work, we develop the rational $Q$-system for this case, which offers a systematic way to find all physical solutions of the Bethe ansatz equations at root of unity. The construction contains two parts. In the first part, we impose additional constraints to the rational $Q$-system. These constraints eliminate the so-called Fabricius-McCoy (FM) string solutions, yielding all primitive solutions. In the second part, we give a simple procedure to construct the descendant tower of any given primitive state. The primitive solutions together with their descendant towers constitute the complete Hilbert space. We test our proposal by extensive numerical checks and apply it to compute the torus partition function of the 6-vertex model at root of unity.

The Floquet Baxterisation

Quantum integrability has proven to be a useful tool to study quantum many-body systems out of equilibrium. In this paper we construct a generic framework for integrable quantum circuits through the procedure of Floquet Baxterisation. The integrability is guaranteed by establishing a connection between Floquet evolution operators and inhomogeneous transfer matrices obtained from the Yang-Baxter relations. This allows us to construct integrable Floquet evolution operators with arbitrary depths and various boundary conditions. Furthermore, we focus on the example related to the staggered 6-vertex model. In the scaling limit we establish a connection of this Floquet protocol with a non-rational conformal field theory. Employing the properties of the underlying affine Temperley--Lieb algebraic structure, we demonstrate the dynamical anti-unitary symmetry breaking in the easy-plane regime. We also give an overview of integrability-related quantum circuits, highlighting future research directions.

Integrable Quantum Circuits from the Star-Triangle Relation

The star-triangle relation plays an important role in the realm of exactly solvable models, offering exact results for classical two-dimensional statistical mechanical models. In this article, we construct integrable quantum circuits using the star-triangle relation. Our construction relies on families of mutually commuting two-parameter transfer matrices for statistical mechanical models solved by the star-triangle relation, and differs from previously known constructions based on Yang-Baxter integrable vertex models. At special value of the spectral parameter, the transfer matrices are mapped into integrable quantum circuits, for which infinite families of local conserved charges can be derived. We demonstrate the construction by giving two examples of circuits acting on a chain of $Q-$state qudits: $Q$-state Potts circuits, whose integrability has been conjectured recently by Lotkov et al., and $\mathbb{Z}_Q$ circuits, which are novel to our knowledge. In the first example, we present for $Q=3$ a connection to the Zamolodchikov-Fateev 19-vertex model.

Quantum many-body scars in spin models with multibody interactions

We introduce and study several classes of quantum spin models with multi-body interactions that exhibit quantum many-body scars. The models are constructed by two different methods: one exploiting boundary states in integrable spin chains and the other based on a variant of existing methods such as restricted spectrum generating algebras. The first method allows us to construct deformations of the Majumdar-Ghosh and Affleck-Kennedy-Lieb-Tasaki models -- prototypes of frustration-free systems. With the second method, we construct a large class of spin-$1$ models involving scalar spin chirality in both one and two dimensions. Interestingly, in some cases, the models so constructed have towers of scar states of different character. For each example, we show that the scar states behave differently from thermal states by comparing their spectral and dynamical properties with those of other states. We also show that a superposition of the scar states constructed by the second method exhibits perfectly periodic revivals in the dynamics.

Youku-mPLUG: A 10 Million Large-scale Chinese Video-Language Dataset for Pre-training and Benchmarks

To promote the development of Vision-Language Pre-training (VLP) and multimodal Large Language Model (LLM) in the Chinese community, we firstly release the largest public Chinese high-quality video-language dataset named Youku-mPLUG, which is collected from Youku, a well-known Chinese video-sharing website, with strict criteria of safety, diversity, and quality. Youku-mPLUG contains 10 million Chinese video-text pairs filtered from 400 million raw videos across a wide range of 45 diverse categories for large-scale pre-training. In addition, to facilitate a comprehensive evaluation of video-language models, we carefully build the largest human-annotated Chinese benchmarks covering three popular video-language tasks of cross-modal retrieval, video captioning, and video category classification. Youku-mPLUG can enable researchers to conduct more in-depth multimodal research and develop better applications in the future. Furthermore, we release popular video-language pre-training models, ALPRO and mPLUG-2, and our proposed modularized decoder-only model mPLUG-video pre-trained on Youku-mPLUG. Experiments show that models pre-trained on Youku-mPLUG gain up to 23.1% improvement in video category classification. Besides, mPLUG-video achieves a new state-of-the-art result on these benchmarks with 80.5% top-1 accuracy in video category classification and 68.9 CIDEr score in video captioning, respectively. Finally, we scale up mPLUG-video based on the frozen Bloomz with only 1.7% trainable parameters as Chinese multimodal LLM, and demonstrate impressive instruction and video understanding ability. The zero-shot instruction understanding experiment indicates that pretraining with Youku-mPLUG can enhance the ability to comprehend overall and detailed visual semantics, recognize scene text, and leverage open-domain knowledge.

Generalised Onsager Algebra in Quantum Lattice Models

The Onsager algebra is one of the cornerstones of exactly solvable models in statistical mechanics. Starting from the generalised Clifford algebra, we demonstrate its relations to the graph Temperley-Lieb algebra, and a generalisation of the Onsager algebra. We present a series of quantum lattice models as representations of the generalised Clifford algebra, possessing the structure of a special type of the generalised Onsager algebra. The integrability of those models is presented, analogous to the free fermionic eight-vertex model. We also mention further extensions of the models and physical properties related to the generalised Onsager algebras, hinting at a general framework that includes families of quantum lattice models possessing the structure of the generalised Onsager algebras.

An exact solution to asymptotic Bethe equation

We present an exact solution to the asymptotic Bethe equation of weakly anisotropic Heisenberg spin chain, which is a set of non-linear algebraic equations. The solution describes the low-energy excitations above ferromagnetic ground state with fixed magnetisation, and it has a close relation to generalised Jacobi polynomial. It is equivalent to a generalised Stieltjes problem and in the continuous limit, it becomes a Riemann-Hilbert problem closely related to the finite-gap solutions of classical Landau-Lifshitz field theory.

Conjectures on Hidden Onsager Algebra Symmetries in Interacting Quantum Lattice Models

We conjecture the existence of hidden Onsager algebra symmetries in two interacting quantum integrable lattice models, i.e. spin-1/2 XXZ model and spin-1 Zamolodchikov-Fateev model at arbitrary root of unity values of the anisotropy. The conjectures relate the Onsager generators to the conserved charges obtained from semi-cyclic transfer matrices. The conjectures are motivated by two examples which are spin-1/2 XX model and spin-1 U(1)-invariant clock model. A novel construction of the semi-cyclic transfer matrices of spin-1 Zamolodchikov-Fateev model at arbitrary root of unity value of the anisotropy is carried out via transfer matrix fusion procedure.
