Coherent terahertz magnon-phonon three-wave mixing in a layered antiferromagnet

The coherent nonlinear dynamics between collective excitations, such as magnons and phonons, drive emergent phenomena in quantum materials, yet their direct observation remains a central challenge. Here, using double-terahertz-pump optical-probe spectroscopy, we report the direct observation of coherent magnon-phonon three-wave mixing in the layered antiferromagnetic insulator FePS$_{3}$. We resolve both second- and third-order nonlinear responses of antiferromagnetic magnons and identify a suite of nonlinear couplings in two-dimensional (2D) coherent spectra, including definitive sum- and difference-frequency generation between magnons and phonons. These results lay the groundwork for exploiting coherent nonlinearities to entangle magnetic and vibrational excitations, opening avenues for quantum control and hybrid quantum technologies in the terahertz regime.

GaMMA: Towards Joint Global-Temporal Music Understanding in Large Multimodal Models

In this paper, we propose GaMMA, a state-of-the-art (SoTA) large multimodal model (LMM) designed to achieve comprehensive musical content understanding. GaMMA inherits the streamlined encoder-decoder design of LLaVA, enabling effective cross-modal learning between music and language. By incorporating audio encoders in a mixture-of-experts manner, GaMMA effectively unifies both time-series and non-time-series music understanding tasks within one set of parameters. Our approach combines carefully curated datasets at scale with a progressive training pipeline, effectively pushing the boundaries of music understanding via pretraining, supervised fine-tuning (SFT), and reinforcement learning (RL). To comprehensively assess both temporal and non-temporal capability of music LMMs, we introduce MusicBench, the largest music-oriented benchmark, comprising 3,739 human-curated multiple-choice questions covering diverse aspects of musical understanding. Extensive experiments demonstrate that GaMMA establishes new SoTA in the music domain, achieving 79.1% accuracy on MuchoMusic, 79.3% on MusicBench-Temporal, and 81.3% on MusicBench-Global, consistently outperforming previous methods.

When Missing Becomes Structure: Intent-Preserving Policy Completion from Financial KOL Discourse

Key Opinion Leader (KOL) discourse on social media is widely consumed as investment guidance, yet turning it into executable trading strategies without injecting assumptions about unspecified execution decisions remains an open problem. We observe that the gaps in KOL statements are not random deficiencies but a structured separation: KOLs express directional intent (what to buy or sell and why) while leaving execution decisions (when, how much, how long) systematically unspecified. Building on this observation, we propose an intent-preserving policy completion framework that treats KOL discourse as a partial trading policy and uses offline reinforcement learning to complete the missing execution decisions around the KOL-expressed intent. Experiments on multimodal KOL discourse from YouTube and X (2022-2025) show that KICL achieves the best return and Sharpe ratio on both platforms while maintaining zero unsupported entries and zero directional reversals, and ablations confirm that the full framework yields an 18.9% return improvement over the KOL-aligned baseline.

Evolution of effective magnetic exchange interaction under spin dilution in SrIr$_{1-x}$Sn$_x$O$_3$

Resonant inelastic X-ray scattering measurements reveal robust magnetic excitations in the perovskite iridates SrIr$_{1-x}$Sn$_x$O$_3$. We analyzed the dispersions of the magnetic excitation with spin-dilution ratio $x$ = 0, 0.03, 0.06, 0.1, and 0.2, crossing from semi-metal to spin-diluted while antiferromagnetically ordered insulators. The extracted effective magnetic exchange interactions decrease continuously upon increasing spin dilution, and their evolution follows a simple spin-dilution scaling law. These results not only verify the strong electron-correlation nature of the metallic parent SrIrO$_3$, but also reveal the entanglement of the charge and spin dynamics in this system.

Observation of cooperative strong coupling between optical phonon and crystal-field excitations in a pseudo Jahn-Teller system

Cooperative interactions between localized electronic excitations and crystal lattice are central to the emergence of complex structural phases in materials. However, the scaling relations governing these collective behaviors remain largely unexplored. Here, using magneto-Raman spectroscopy, we report the direct observation of the strongly coupled optical phonon and non-degenerate crystal-field excitations (CFEs) in ErFeO3. By independently tuning the effective population of Jahn-Teller-active erbium ions through temperature and chemical dilution with Jahn-Teller-inactive yttrium ions, we identify the coupling strength varies linearly with the square root of electronic excitations population. Notably, Y-doping reveals the hybridization gap reduces significantly faster than predicted by density scaling alone, indicating phonon coherence is essential for establishing this cooperative interaction. Our findings highlight the role of optical phonons in mediating short-range interactions that drive cooperative Jahn-Teller effect, evidencing the pathway for tailoring electronic and vibrational properties of Jahn-Teller materials through population control.

Electric-Field Induced Spin Wave Nonreciprocity in Noncoplanar Magnets

We show that an electric field can induce nonreciprocal spin wave dispersion in magnetic insulators with negligible spin-orbit coupling. The electric field controls the direction and magnitude of nonreciprocity through a nonlinear magnetoelectric effect without switching the magnetic ground state. By deriving spin space group symmetry constraints, we find only a subset of noncoplanar magnets exhibits this property, and identify a few candidates. For the example of hexagonal lattice tetrahedral antiferromagnet, our effective field theory analysis and microscopic model calculation yield results that are fully consistent with the symmetry analysis.

Evolution from intralayer to interlayer superconductivity in a bilayer $t$-$J$ model

Motivated by the bilayer cuprate superconductors and nickelate superconductor La$_3$Ni$_2$O$_7$, we investigate the evolution from intralayer to interlayer superconductivity based on a bilayer two-leg $t$-$J$-$J_{\bot}$ model, where $t$ is the in-plane electron hopping, $J$ is the in-plane spin interaction, and $J_{\bot}$ is the inter-plane spin interaction. By means of the density matrix renormalization group calculations, we obtain the quantum phase diagram of the system by tuning $J_{\bot}$ in a large doping range $\delta = 1/8 - 1/2$. We find that a large $J_{\bot}$ can always drive an interlayer superconductivity by coupling the two layers in both the Luther-Emery liquid and Luttinger liquid states. By coupling two Luther-Emery liquid states, the in-plane superconductivity evolves to inter-plane superconductivity either through an intermediate charge density wave (CDW) phase or directly, depending on doping ratio. This emergent CDW phase, which exists over a finite doping range, appears to develop from the CDW state of the two-leg ladder at $\delta = 1/4$. By coupling two Luttinger liquids, the in-plane Luttinger liquids show a transition to the inter-plane superconducting phase at large $J_{\bot}$, as reported in previous literature. Interestingly, in the intermediate $J_{\bot}$ regime we find that while the in-plane Luttinger-liquid features remain stable, the inter-plane superconductivity can develop an enhanced quasi-long-range order with the power exponent $K^{zz}_{\rm SC} \sim 1$. At last, we show that the interlayer superconductivity is also stable by coupling the bilayer three-leg $t$-$J$ ladders by a strong $J_{\bot}$ interaction, from both the Luther-Emery liquid and Luttinger-liquid states.

Summing Real Time Feynman Paths of Lattice Polaron with Matrix Product States

We study numerically the real time dynamics of lattice polarons by combining the Feynman path integral and the matrix product state (MPS) approach. By constructing and solving a flow equation, we show that the integrand, viewed as a multivariable function of polaron world line parameters, can be compressed as a low bond dimension MPS, thereby allowing for efficient evaluation of various dynamical observables. We establish the effectiveness of our method by benchmarking the calculated polaron spectral function in one dimension against available results. We further demonstrate its potential by presenting the polaron spectral function in two dimensions and simulating polaron diffusion in both one and two dimensions.

Giant Magnetocaloric Effect in Spin Supersolid Candidate Na$_2$BaCo(PO$_4$)$_2$

Supersolid, an exotic quantum state of matter that consists of particles forming an incompressible solid structure while simultaneously showing superfluidity of zero viscosity [1], is one of the long-standing pursuits in fundamental research [2, 3]. Although the initial report of $^4$He supersolid turned out to be an artifact [4], this intriguing quantum matter has inspired enthusiastic investigations into ultracold quantum gases [5-8]. Nevertheless, the realization of supersolidity in condensed matter remains elusive. Here we find evidence for a quantum magnetic analogue of supersolid -- the spin supersolid -- in the recently synthesized triangular-lattice antiferromagnet Na$_2$BaCo(PO$_4$)$_2$ [9]. Notably, a giant magnetocaloric effect related to the spin supersolidity is observed in the demagnetization cooling process, manifesting itself as two prominent valley-like regimes, with the lowest temperature attaining below 100 mK. Not only is there an experimentally determined series of critical fields but the demagnetization cooling profile also shows excellent agreement with the theoretical simulations with an easy-axis Heisenberg model. Neutron diffractions also successfully locate the proposed spin supersolid phases by revealing the coexistence of three-sublattice spin solid order and interlayer incommensurability indicative of the spin superfluidity. Thus, our results indicate a strong entropic effect of the spin supersolid phase in a frustrated quantum magnet and open up a viable and promising avenue for applications in sub-Kelvin refrigeration, especially in the context of persistent concerns about helium shortages [10, 11].

Magnetic switching of phonon angular momentum in a ferrimagnetic insulator

Circularly polarized phonons offer a new route for mediating angular momentum in solids. However, controlling phonon angular momentum without altering the material's structure or composition remains challenging. Here, we demonstrate the non-volatile switching of angular momentum-carrying phonons by leveraging intrinsic ferrimagnetism in an insulator. We find a pair of chiral phonons with giant energy splitting reaching 20% of the phonon frequency, due to spontaneously broken time-reversal symmetry. With a moderate magnetic field, the phonon angular momentum of the two chiral phonon branches can be switched along with the magnetization. Notably, near the critical temperature, the effective phonon magnetic moment is enhanced, reaching 2.62 Bohr magneton, exceeding the moment of a magnon. A microscopic model based on phonon-magnon coupling accounts for the observations. Furthermore, we identify two types of phononic domains with opposite phonon Zeeman splitting and propose the existence of topologically protected phononic edge modes at domain boundaries. These results demonstrate effective manipulation of chiral phonons with magnetism, and pave the way for engineering chiral phononic domains on the micrometer scale.

Transient selection of competing order in frustrated spin Peierls systems after a quench

We study theoretically the dynamics of frustrated spin Peierls systems after a quench from the paramagnetic state to the magnetically ordered state. By constructing and numerical simulating a minimal model, we show that it can exhibit a transient non-collinear magnetic order before settling in the equilibrium collinear magnetic order. The transient magnetic order is selected by the phonon fluctuations originated from the initial state. Our results reveal a mechanism for controlling the phases of matter by exploiting incoherent, nonequilibrium fluctuations.

Time-domain interferometry of electron weak localization through terahertz nonlinear response

We study theoretically the nonlinear optical response of disordered electrons in the regime of weak (anti)localization. Our analytical and numerical calculations reveal that, in orthogonal/symplectic class systems, two consecutive, phase coherent optical pulses generates an electric current echo that appears after the second pulse, and at a time equal to the pulse delay time. The current echo reflects the quantum interference between a self-intersecting electron path and its time reversal partner, and, therefore, provide a time-domain interferometry of weak (anti)localization. Our results can be potentially tested on disordered metal films by using terahertz two-dimensional coherent spectroscopy or ultrafast transport measurements.

ByteComposer: a Human-like Melody Composition Method based on Language Model Agent

Large Language Models (LLM) have shown encouraging progress in multimodal understanding and generation tasks. However, how to design a human-aligned and interpretable melody composition system is still under-explored. To solve this problem, we propose ByteComposer, an agent framework emulating a human's creative pipeline in four separate steps : "Conception Analysis - Draft Composition - Self-Evaluation and Modification - Aesthetic Selection". This framework seamlessly blends the interactive and knowledge-understanding features of LLMs with existing symbolic music generation models, thereby achieving a melody composition agent comparable to human creators. We conduct extensive experiments on GPT4 and several open-source large language models, which substantiate our framework's effectiveness. Furthermore, professional music composers were engaged in multi-dimensional evaluations, the final results demonstrated that across various facets of music composition, ByteComposer agent attains the level of a novice melody composer.

Photon echo and fractional excitation lensing of $S=1/2$ XY spin chain

We study numerically the two-dimensional coherent spectrum (2DCS) of the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid hosted by the $S=1/2$ XY spin chain. The 2DCS characterizes the system's third order nonlinear magnetic response triggered by three pulses, separated successively by the delay time and the waiting time. It exhibits a photon echo signal resulting from a lensing process of the fractional excitations: A pair of photon-excited fractional excitations, initially moving apart, reverse their direction of motion, and annihilate each other. In the XY chain, the nonlinearity in the dispersion relation of the Jordan-Wigner fermions leads to the dispersion of the fractional excitation wave packets and thereby suppresses lensing. The magnitude of the echo signal decreases exponentially with increasing delay time. The decay rate scales with the temperature $T$ as $T^n$ at low temperature, where $n$ is the leading order of the Jordan-Wigner fermion dispersion, and as $T$ at high temperature. By contrast, as the waiting time increases, the magnitude of the echo signal saturates, reflecting the integrability of the system. Our results illustrate the effectiveness of the 2DCS in detecting subtle dynamical properties of optical excitations in spin chains.

Fluctuation-induced first order phase transitions in Kitaev-like $d^4$ honeycomb magnet

We study numerically a bosonic analog of the Kitaev honeycomb model, which is a minimal model for $4d^4/5d^4$ quantum magnets with honeycomb lattice geometry. We construct its phase diagram by a combination of Landau theory analysis and quantum Monte Carlo simulations. In particular, we show that the phase boundaries between the paramagnetic state and magnetically ordered states are generically fluctuation-induced first order phase transitions. Our results are potentially applicable to Ru$^{4+}$- and Ir$^{5+}$-based honeycomb magnets.

Semantic Graph Neural Network with Multi-measure Learning for Semi-supervised Classification

Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have attracted increasing attention in recent years and have achieved excellent performance in semi-supervised node classification tasks. The success of most GNNs relies on one fundamental assumption, i.e., the original graph structure data is available. However, recent studies have shown that GNNs are vulnerable to the complex underlying structure of the graph, making it necessary to learn comprehensive and robust graph structures for downstream tasks, rather than relying only on the raw graph structure. In light of this, we seek to learn optimal graph structures for downstream tasks and propose a novel framework for semi-supervised classification. Specifically, based on the structural context information of graph and node representations, we encode the complex interactions in semantics and generate semantic graphs to preserve the global structure. Moreover, we develop a novel multi-measure attention layer to optimize the similarity rather than prescribing it a priori, so that the similarity can be adaptively evaluated by integrating measures. These graphs are fused and optimized together with GNN towards semi-supervised classification objective. Extensive experiments and ablation studies on six real-world datasets clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed model and the contribution of each component.

Spin Excitation Spectra of Anisotropic Spin-$1/2$ Triangular Lattice Heisenberg Antiferromagnets

Investigation of dynamical excitations is difficult but crucial to the understanding of many exotic quantum phenomena discovered in quantum materials. This is particularly true for highly frustrated quantum antiferromagnets whose dynamical properties deviate strongly from theoretical predictions made based on the spin-wave or other approximations. Here we present a large-scale numerical calculation on the dynamical correlation functions of spin-$1/2$ triangular Heisenberg model using a state-of-the-art tensor network renormalization group method. The calculated results allow us to gain for the first time a comprehensive picture on the nature of spin excitation spectra in this highly frustrated quantum system. It provides a quantitative account for all the key features of the dynamical spectra disclosed by inelastic neutron scattering measurements for $\rm Ba_3CoSb_2O_9$, revealing the importance of the interplay between low- and high-energy excitations and its renormalization effect to the low-energy magnon bands and high-energy continuums. We identify the longitudinal Higgs modes in the intermediate-energy scale and predict the energy and momentum dependence of spectral functions along the three principal axes that can be verified by polarized neutron scattering experiments. Furthermore, we find that the spin excitation spectra weakly depend on the anisotropic ratio of the antiferromagnetic interaction.

Autoregressive neural Slater-Jastrow ansatz for variational Monte Carlo simulation

Direct sampling from a Slater determinant is combined with an autoregressive deep neural network as a Jastrow factor into a fully autoregressive Slater-Jastrow ansatz for variational quantum Monte Carlo, which allows for uncorrelated sampling. The elimination of the autocorrelation time leads to a stochastic algorithm with provable cubic scaling (with a potentially large prefactor), i.e. the number of operations for producing an uncorrelated sample and for calculating the local energy scales like $\mathcal{O}(N_s^3)$ with the number of orbitals $N_s$. The implementation is benchmarked on the two-dimensional $t-V$ model of spinless fermions on the square lattice.
