Joint Gaussian Beam Pattern and Its Optimization for Positioning-Assisted Systems

Beamforming is a fundamental technology that not only enhances communication efficiency but also lays the foundation for massive multiple-input multiple-output~(MIMO) systems. However, its reliance on accurate channel state information (CSI) estimation introduces significant training overhead and feedback costs, especially in large-scale antenna systems. In this paper, we investigate positioning-assisted beamforming as a competitive alternative to the CSI-based methods, which circumvents the complicated CSI estimation. In particular, we analyze the outage probability of positioning-assisted systems with joint Gaussian beams and derive its closed-form expressions for both two-dimensional~(2D) and three-dimensional~(3D) scenarios. Based on these results, we also derive closed-form expressions for the optimal joint Gaussian beam pattern. The optimal solution is independent of the positioning error distribution in 2D scenarios but depends on it in 3D cases. Subsequently, the asymptotic performance of the approximation error is analyzed. Numerical results verify the derived outage probability expressions, and show the effectiveness of the beam pattern optimization.

Deep Learning Applications Based on WISE Infrared Data: Classification of Stars, Galaxies and Quasars

The Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) has detected hundreds of millions of sources over the entire sky. However, classifying them reliably is a great challenge due to degeneracies in WISE multicolor space and low detection levels in its two longest-wavelength bandpasses. In this paper, the deep learning classification network, IICnet (Infrared Image Classification network), is designed to classify sources from WISE images to achieve a more accurate classification goal. IICnet shows good ability on the feature extraction of the WISE sources. Experiments demonstrates that the classification results of IICnet are superior to some other methods; it has obtained 96.2% accuracy for galaxies, 97.9% accuracy for quasars, and 96.4% accuracy for stars, and the Area Under Curve (AUC) of the IICnet classifier can reach more than 99%. In addition, the superiority of IICnet in processing infrared images has been demonstrated in the comparisons with VGG16, GoogleNet, ResNet34, MobileNet, EfficientNetV2, and RepVGG-fewer parameters and faster inference. The above proves that IICnet is an effective method to classify infrared sources.

The Effectiveness of Haptic Properties Under Cognitive Load: An Exploratory Study

With the rise of wearables, haptic interfaces are increasingly favored to communicate information in an ambient manner. Despite this expectation, existing guidelines are developed in studies where the participant's focus is entirely on the haptic task. In this work, we systematically study the cognitive load imposed by properties of a haptic signal. Participants wear a haptic device on their forearm, and are asked to perform a 1-back task. Each experimental condition isolates an individual property of the haptic signal (e.g., amplitude, waveform, rhythm) and participants are asked to identify the gradient of the data. We evaluate each condition across 16 participants, measuring participants' response times, error rates, and qualitative and quantitative surveys (e.g., NASA TLX). Our results indicate that gender and language differences may impact preference for some properties, that participants prefer properties that can be rapidly identified, and that amplitude imposes the lowest cognitive load.

Two_Generalizations_for_Quadratic_Residue_Codes_over_Finite_Fields

It's well known that the quadratic residue code over finite fields is an interesting class of cyclic codes for its higher minimum distance. Let $g$ be a positive integer and $p,p_{1},\ldots, p_{g}$ be distinct odd primes, the present paper generalizes the constructions for the quadratic residue code with length $p$ to be the length $n=p_{1}\cdots p_{g}$, and to be the case $m$-th residue codes with length $p$ over finite fields, where $m\geq 2$ is a positive integer. Furthermore, a criterion for that these codes are self-orthogonal or complementary dual is obtained, and then the corresponding counting formula are given. In particular, the minimum distance of all 24 quaternary quadratic residue codes $[15,8]$ are determined.
