Booster-based beam recycling for swap-out injection at the High Energy Photon Source

Fourth-generation synchrotron light sources employ ultralow-emittance storage rings with stringent injection requirements. On-axis swap-out injection alleviates the dependence on storage-ring dynamic aperture, but high-charge operation requires an efficient injector architecture capable of producing high-charge replacement bunches. This paper presents the accelerator physics design and performance analysis of a booster-based beam-recycling swap-out injection scheme implemented at the High Energy Photon Source (HEPS). In this approach, the full-energy booster serves as both an injector and a high-energy accumulator. An extracted storage-ring bunch is returned to the booster, merged with a low-charge bunch previously injected from the linac and accelerated to full energy. Following high-energy damping, the merged bunch is reinjected into the original storage-ring bucket. The scheme avoids the need for a dedicated accumulator ring while enabling high-charge bunch replacement. The recycling scheme was commissioned through staged machine studies. Full recycling-chain simulations, commissioning studies, and measured performance analysis are presented. The measured results characterize the recycling operation and quantify the transmission efficiency and performance limitations of the complete recycling loop. These results demonstrate the feasibility of the booster-based beam-recycling architecture and establish its operational basis for high-charge swap-out injection in future fourth-generation synchrotron light sources.

Unsupervised Social Event Detection via Hybrid Graph Contrastive Learning and Reinforced Incremental Clustering

Detecting events from social media data streams is gradually attracting researchers. The innate challenge for detecting events is to extract discriminative information from social media data thereby assigning the data into different events. Due to the excessive diversity and high updating frequency of social data, using supervised approaches to detect events from social messages is hardly achieved. To this end, recent works explore learning discriminative information from social messages by leveraging graph contrastive learning (GCL) and embedding clustering in an unsupervised manner. However, two intrinsic issues exist in benchmark methods: conventional GCL can only roughly explore partial attributes, thereby insufficiently learning the discriminative information of social messages; for benchmark methods, the learned embeddings are clustered in the latent space by taking advantage of certain specific prior knowledge, which conflicts with the principle of unsupervised learning paradigm. In this paper, we propose a novel unsupervised social media event detection method via hybrid graph contrastive learning and reinforced incremental clustering (HCRC), which uses hybrid graph contrastive learning to comprehensively learn semantic and structural discriminative information from social messages and reinforced incremental clustering to perform efficient clustering in a solidly unsupervised manner. We conduct comprehensive experiments to evaluate HCRC on the Twitter and Maven datasets. The experimental results demonstrate that our approach yields consistent significant performance boosts. In traditional incremental setting, semi-supervised incremental setting and solidly unsupervised setting, the model performance has achieved maximum improvements of 53%, 45%, and 37%, respectively.

M2HGCL: Multi-Scale Meta-Path Integrated Heterogeneous Graph Contrastive Learning

Inspired by the successful application of contrastive learning on graphs, researchers attempt to impose graph contrastive learning approaches on heterogeneous information networks. Orthogonal to homogeneous graphs, the types of nodes and edges in heterogeneous graphs are diverse so that specialized graph contrastive learning methods are required. Most existing methods for heterogeneous graph contrastive learning are implemented by transforming heterogeneous graphs into homogeneous graphs, which may lead to ramifications that the valuable information carried by non-target nodes is undermined thereby exacerbating the performance of contrastive learning models. Additionally, current heterogeneous graph contrastive learning methods are mainly based on initial meta-paths given by the dataset, yet according to our deep-going exploration, we derive empirical conclusions: only initial meta-paths cannot contain sufficiently discriminative information; and various types of meta-paths can effectively promote the performance of heterogeneous graph contrastive learning methods. To this end, we propose a new multi-scale meta-path integrated heterogeneous graph contrastive learning (M2HGCL) model, which discards the conventional heterogeneity-homogeneity transformation and performs the graph contrastive learning in a joint manner. Specifically, we expand the meta-paths and jointly aggregate the direct neighbor information, the initial meta-path neighbor information and the expanded meta-path neighbor information to sufficiently capture discriminative information. A specific positive sampling strategy is further imposed to remedy the intrinsic deficiency of contrastive learning, i.e., the hard negative sample sampling issue. Through extensive experiments on three real-world datasets, we demonstrate that M2HGCL outperforms the current state-of-the-art baseline models.

CoCA-MDD: A Coupled Cross-Attention based Framework for Streaming Mispronunciation Detection and Diagnosis

Mispronunciation detection and diagnosis (MDD) is a popular research focus in computer-aided pronunciation training (CAPT) systems. End-to-end (e2e) approaches are becoming dominant in MDD. However an e2e MDD model usually requires entire speech utterances as input context, which leads to significant time latency especially for long paragraphs. We propose a streaming e2e MDD model called CoCA-MDD. We utilize conv-transformer structure to encode input speech in a streaming manner. A coupled cross-attention (CoCA) mechanism is proposed to integrate frame-level acoustic features with encoded reference linguistic features. CoCA also enables our model to perform mispronunciation classification with whole utterances. The proposed model allows system fusion between the streaming output and mispronunciation classification output for further performance enhancement. We evaluate CoCA-MDD on publicly available corpora. CoCA-MDD achieves F1 scores of 57.03% and 60.78% for streaming and fusion modes respectively on L2-ARCTIC. For phone-level pronunciation scoring, CoCA-MDD achieves 0.58 Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) value on SpeechOcean762.

0.75 Gbit/s high-speed classical key distribution with mode-shift keying chaos synchronization of Fabry-Perot lasers

High-speed physical key distribution is diligently pursued for secure communication. In this paper, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a scheme of high-speed key distribution using mode-shift keying chaos synchronization between two multi-longitudinal-mode Fabry-Perot lasers commonly driven by a super-luminescent diode. Legitimate users dynamically select one of the longitudinal modes according to private control codes to achieve mode-shift keying chaos synchronization. The two remote chaotic light waveforms are quantized to generate two raw random bit streams, and then those bits corresponding to chaos synchronization are sifted as shared keys by comparing the control codes. In this method, the transition time, i.e., the chaos synchronization recovery time is determined by the rising time of the control codes rather than the laser transition response time, so the key distribution rate is improved greatly. Our experiment achieved 0.75-Gbit/s key distribution rate with a bit error rate of 3.8*10-3 over 160-km fiber transmission with dispersion compensation. The entropy rate of the laser chaos is evaluated as 16 Gbit/s, which determines the ultimate final key rate together with key generation ratio. It is therefore believed that the method pays a way for Gbit/s physical key distribution.

Cooperative control of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy via crystal structure and orientation in single-crystal flexible SrRuO3 membranes

Flexible magnetic materials with robust and controllable perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) are highly desirable for developing flexible high-performance spintronic devices. However, it is still challenge to fabricate PMA films through current techniques of direct deposition on polymers. Here, we report a facile method for synthesizing single-crystal freestanding SrRuO3 (SRO) membranes with controlled crystal structure and orientation using water-soluble Ca3-xSrxAl2O6 sacrificial layers. Through cooperative effect of crystal structure and orientation engineering, flexible SrRuO3 membranes reveal highly tunable magnetic anisotropy from in-plane to our-of-plane with a remarkable PMA energy of 7.34*106 erg/cm3. Based on the first-principles calculations, it reveals that the underlying mechanism of PMA modulation is intimately correlated with structure-controlled Ru 4d-orbital occupation, as well as the spin-orbital matrix element differences, dependent on the crystal orientation. In addition, there are no obvious changes of the magnetism after 10,000 bending cycles, indicating an excellent magnetism reliability in the prepared films. This work provides a feasible approach to prepare the flexible oxide films with strong and controllable PMA.

Temporal Spinwave Fabry-Perot Interferometry via Coherent Population Trapping

Ramsey spectroscopy via coherent population trapping (CPT) is essential in precision measurements. The conventional CPT-Ramsey fringes contain numbers of almost identical oscillations and so that it is difficult to identify the central fringe. Here, we experimentally demonstrate a temporal spinwave Fabry-Pérot interferometry via double-$Λ$ CPT of laser-cooled $^{87}$Rb atoms. Due to the constructive interference of temporal spinwaves, the transmission spectrum appears as a comb of equidistant peaks in frequency domain and thus the central Ramsey fringe can be easily identified. From the optical Bloch equations for our five-level double-$Λ$ system, the transmission spectrum is analytically explained by the Fabry-Pérot interferometry of temporal spinwaves. Due to small amplitude difference between the two Landé factors, each peak splits into two when the external magnetic field is not too weak. This peak splitting can be employed to measure an unknown magnetic field without involving magneto-sensitive transitions.

Photon statistics and bunching of a chaotic semiconductor laser

The photon statistics and bunching of a semiconductor laser with external optical feedback are investigated experimentally and theoretically. In a chaotic regime, the photon number distribution is measured and undergoes a transition from Bose-Einstein distribution to Poisson distribution with increasing the mean photon number. The second order degree of coherence decreases gradually from 2 to 1. Based on Hanbury Brown-Twiss scheme, pronounced photon bunching is observed experimentally for various injection currents and feedback strengths, which indicates the randomness of the associated emission light. Near-threshold injection currents and strong feedback strengths modify exactly the laser performance to be more bunched. The macroscopic chaotic dynamics is confirmed simultaneously by high-speed analog detection. The theoretical results qualitatively agree with the experimental results. It is potentially useful to extract randomness and achieve desired entropy source for random number generator and imaging science by quantifying the control parameters.
