NATLM: Detecting Defects in NFT Smart Contracts Leveraging LLM

Security issues are becoming increasingly significant with the rapid evolution of Non-fungible Tokens (NFTs). As NFTs are traded as digital assets, they have emerged as prime targets for cyber attackers. In the development of NFT smart contracts, there may exist undiscovered defects that could lead to substantial financial losses if exploited. To tackle this issue, this paper presents a framework called NATLM(NFT Assistant LLM), designed to detect potential defects in NFT smart contracts. The framework effectively identifies four common types of vulnerabilities in NFT smart contracts: ERC-721 Reentrancy, Public Burn, Risky Mutable Proxy, and Unlimited Minting. Relying exclusively on large language models (LLMs) for defect detection can lead to a high false-positive rate. To enhance detection performance, NATLM integrates static analysis with LLMs, specifically Gemini Pro 1.5. Initially, NATLM employs static analysis to extract structural, syntactic, and execution flow information from the code, represented through Abstract Syntax Trees (AST) and Control Flow Graphs (CFG). These extracted features are then combined with vectors of known defect examples to create a matrix for input into the knowledge base. Subsequently, the feature vectors and code vectors of the analyzed contract are compared with the contents of the knowledge base. Finally, the LLM performs deep semantic analysis to enhance detection capabilities, providing a more comprehensive and accurate identification of potential security issues. Experimental results indicate that NATLM analyzed 8,672 collected NFT smart contracts, achieving an overall precision of 87.72%, a recall of 89.58%, and an F1 score of 88.94%. The results outperform other baseline experiments, successfully identifying four common types of defects.

Comparative Analysis of Blockchain Systems

Blockchain is a type of decentralized distributed database. Unlike traditional relational database management systems, it does not require management or maintenance by a third party. All data management and update processes are open and transparent, solving the trust issues of centralized database management systems. Blockchain ensures network-wide consistency, consensus, traceability, and immutability. Under the premise of mutual distrust between nodes, blockchain technology integrates various technologies, such as P2P protocols, asymmetric encryption, consensus mechanisms, and chain structures. Data is distributed and stored across multiple nodes, maintained by all nodes, ensuring transaction data integrity, undeniability, and security. This facilitates trusted information sharing and supervision. The basic principles of blockchain form the foundation for all related research. Understanding the working principles is essential for further study of blockchain technology. There are many platforms based on blockchain technology, and they differ from one another. This paper will analyze the architecture of blockchain systems at each layer, focusing on the principles and technologies of blockchain platforms such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Hyperledger Fabric. The analysis will cover their scalability and security and highlight their similarities, differences, advantages, and disadvantages.

Unveiling Wash Trading in Popular NFT Markets

As emerging digital assets, NFTs are susceptible to anomalous trading behaviors due to the lack of stringent regulatory mechanisms, potentially causing economic losses. In this paper, we conduct the first systematic analysis of four non-fungible tokens (NFT) markets. Specifically, we analyze more than 25 million transactions within these markets, to explore the evolution of wash trade activities. Furthermore, we propose a heuristic algorithm that integrates the network characteristics of transactions with behavioral analysis, to detect wash trading activities in NFT markets. Our findings indicate that NFT markets with incentivized structures exhibit higher proportions of wash trading volume compared to those without incentives. Notably, the LooksRare and X2Y2 markets are detected with wash trading volume proportions as high as 94.5% and 84.2%, respectively.

An Overview of AI and Blockchain Integration for Privacy-Preserving

With the widespread attention and application of artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technologies, privacy protection techniques arising from their integration are of notable significance. In addition to protecting privacy of individuals, these techniques also guarantee security and dependability of data. This paper initially presents an overview of AI and blockchain, summarizing their combination along with derived privacy protection technologies. It then explores specific application scenarios in data encryption, de-identification, multi-tier distributed ledgers, and k-anonymity methods. Moreover, the paper evaluates five critical aspects of AI-blockchain-integration privacy protection systems, including authorization management, access control, data protection, network security, and scalability. Furthermore, it analyzes the deficiencies and their actual cause, offering corresponding suggestions. This research also classifies and summarizes privacy protection techniques based on AI-blockchain application scenarios and technical schemes. In conclusion, this paper outlines the future directions of privacy protection technologies emerging from AI and blockchain integration, including enhancing efficiency and security to achieve a more comprehensive privacy protection of privacy.

A Survey of DeFi Security: Challenges and Opportunities

DeFi, or Decentralized Finance, is based on a distributed ledger called blockchain technology. Using blockchain, DeFi may customize the execution of predetermined operations between parties. The DeFi system use blockchain technology to execute user transactions, such as lending and exchanging. The total value locked in DeFi decreased from \$200 billion in April 2022 to \$80 billion in July 2022, indicating that security in this area remained problematic. In this paper, we address the deficiency in DeFi security studies. To our best knowledge, our paper is the first to make a systematic analysis of DeFi security. First, we summarize the DeFi-related vulnerabilities in each blockchain layer. Additionally, application-level vulnerabilities are also analyzed. Then we classify and analyze real-world DeFi attacks based on the principles that correlate to the vulnerabilities. In addition, we collect optimization strategies from the data, network, consensus, smart contract, and application layers. And then, we describe the weaknesses and technical approaches they address. On the basis of this comprehensive analysis, we summarize several challenges and possible future directions in DeFi to offer ideas for further research.
