Causality-Driven Infrared and Visible Image Fusion

Image fusion aims to combine complementary information from multiple source images to generate more comprehensive scene representations. Existing methods primarily rely on the stacking and design of network architectures to enhance the fusion performance, often ignoring the impact of dataset scene bias on model training. This oversight leads the model to learn spurious correlations between specific scenes and fusion weights under conventional likelihood estimation framework, thereby limiting fusion performance. To solve the above problems, this paper first re-examines the image fusion task from the causality perspective, and disentangles the model from the impact of bias by constructing a tailored causal graph to clarify the causalities among the variables in image fusion task. Then, the Back-door Adjustment based Feature Fusion Module (BAFFM) is proposed to eliminate confounder interference and enable the model to learn the true causal effect. Finally, Extensive experiments on three standard datasets prove that the proposed method significantly surpasses state-of-the-art methods in infrared and visible image fusion.

Status of the QCDSP project

We describe the completed 8,192-node, 0.4Tflops machine at Columbia as well as the 12,288-node, 0.6Tflops machine assembled at the RIKEN Brookhaven Research Center. Present performance as well as our experience in commissioning these large machines is presented. We outline our on-going physics program and explain how the configuration of the machine is varied to support a wide range of lattice QCD problems, requiring a variety of machine sizes. Finally a brief discussion is given of future prospects for large-scale lattice QCD machines.

QCDSP - A status report

The QCDSP machine at Columbia University has grown to 2,048 nodes achieving a peak speed of 100 Gigaflops. Software for quenched and Hybrid Monte Carlo (HMC) evolution schemes has been developed for staggered fermions, with support for Wilson and clover fermions under development. We provide an overview of the runtime environment, the current status of the QCDSP construction program and preliminary results not presented elsewhere in these proceedings.

Improved actions of the staggered fermion

We have studied $O(a^2)$ improved lattice QCD with the staggered fermion by using Symanzik's program. We find that there are 5 dimension-6 fermion bilinears and gauge operators. In addition, there are 10 four-fermion operators which are absent at the tree-level and tadpole-improved tree-level.

On-shell improved lattice QCD with staggered fermions

By using Symanzik's improvement program, we study on-shell improved lattice QCD with staggered fermions. We find that there are as many as 15 independent lattice operators of dimension of six~(including both gauge and fermion operators) which must be added to the unimproved action to form an $O(a^2)$ improved action. Among them, the total number of dimension-6 gauge operators and fermion bilinears is 5. The other 10 terms are four-fermion operators. At the tree-level and tadpole-improved tree-level, all the 10 four fermion operators are absent.

Staggered fermions and their $O(a)$ improvements

Expanding upon the arguments of Sharpe, we explicitly implement the Symanzik improvement program demonstrating the absence of order $a$ terms in the staggered fermion action. We propose a general program to improve fermion operators to remove $O(a)$ corrections from their matrix elements, and demonstrate this program for the examples of matrix elements of fermion bilinears and $B_K$. We also determine the additional operators which must be added to improve the staggered fermion currents.

Improvement of the Staggered Fermion Operators

We present a complete and detailed derivation of the finite lattice spacing corrections to staggered fermion matrix elements. Expanding upon arguments of Sharpe, we explicitly implement the Symanzik improvement program demonstrating the absence of order $a$ terms in the Symanzik improved action. We propose a general program to improve fermion operators to remove $O(a)$ corrections from their matrix elements, and demonstrate this program for the examples of matrix elements of fermion bilinears and $B_K$. We find the former does have $O(a)$ corrections while the latter does not.
