Quantum phase with coexisting localized, extended, and critical zones

Conventionally a mobility edge (ME) marks a critical energy that separates two different transport zones where all states are extended and localized, respectively. Here we propose a novel quasiperiodic spin-orbit coupled lattice model with experimental feasibility to realize a fundamentally new quantum phase with three coexisting energy-dependent zones, i.e., the extended, critical and localized zones, and uncover the underlying generic mechanism for the occurrence of the new quantum phase. Accordingly, this phase exhibits new types of MEs which separate the extended states from critical ones, and the localized states from critical ones, respectively. We introduce the diagnostic quantities to characterize and distinguish the different zones, and show that the predicted phase can be detected by measuring the fractal dimension or conductivities. The experimental realization is also proposed and studied. This work extends the concept of ME and enriches the quantum phases in disordered systems, which sheds light on searching for new localization and critical phenomena with novel transport and thermoelectric effects.

Ideal approximation in $n$-exangulated categories

In this paper, we study the ideal approximation theory associated to almost $n$-exact structures in the $n$-exangulated category. The notions of $n$-ideal cotorsion pairs and $n$-$\mathbb{F}$-phantom morphisms are introduced and studied. In particular, let $\mathscr{C}$ be an extriangulated category which satisfies the condition (WIC) and $\mathcal{T}$ be a nicely embedded $n$-cluster tilting subcategory of $\mathscr{C}$, we prove Salce's Lemma in $\mathcal{T}$.

Document-Level Event Extraction via Human-Like Reading Process

Document-level Event Extraction (DEE) is particularly tricky due to the two challenges it poses: scattering-arguments and multi-events. The first challenge means that arguments of one event record could reside in different sentences in the document, while the second one reflects one document may simultaneously contain multiple such event records. Motivated by humans' reading cognitive to extract information of interests, in this paper, we propose a method called HRE (Human Reading inspired Extractor for Document Events), where DEE is decomposed into these two iterative stages, rough reading and elaborate reading. Specifically, the first stage browses the document to detect the occurrence of events, and the second stage serves to extract specific event arguments. For each concrete event role, elaborate reading hierarchically works from sentences to characters to locate arguments across sentences, thus the scattering-arguments problem is tackled. Meanwhile, rough reading is explored in a multi-round manner to discover undetected events, thus the multi-events problem is handled. Experiment results show the superiority of HRE over prior competitive methods.

Discontinuous Named Entity Recognition as Maximal Clique Discovery

Named entity recognition (NER) remains challenging when entity mentions can be discontinuous. Existing methods break the recognition process into several sequential steps. In training, they predict conditioned on the golden intermediate results, while at inference relying on the model output of the previous steps, which introduces exposure bias. To solve this problem, we first construct a segment graph for each sentence, in which each node denotes a segment (a continuous entity on its own, or a part of discontinuous entities), and an edge links two nodes that belong to the same entity. The nodes and edges can be generated respectively in one stage with a grid tagging scheme and learned jointly using a novel architecture named Mac. Then discontinuous NER can be reformulated as a non-parametric process of discovering maximal cliques in the graph and concatenating the spans in each clique. Experiments on three benchmarks show that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art (SOTA) results, with up to 3.5 percentage points improvement on F1, and achieves 5x speedup over the SOTA model.

GenReg: Deep Generative Method for Fast Point Cloud Registration

Accurate and efficient point cloud registration is a challenge because the noise and a large number of points impact the correspondence search. This challenge is still a remaining research problem since most of the existing methods rely on correspondence search. To solve this challenge, we propose a new data-driven registration algorithm by investigating deep generative neural networks to point cloud registration. Given two point clouds, the motivation is to generate the aligned point clouds directly, which is very useful in many applications like 3D matching and search. We design an end-to-end generative neural network for aligned point clouds generation to achieve this motivation, containing three novel components. Firstly, a point multi-perception layer (MLP) mixer (PointMixer) network is proposed to efficiently maintain both the global and local structure information at multiple levels from the self point clouds. Secondly, a feature interaction module is proposed to fuse information from cross point clouds. Thirdly, a parallel and differential sample consensus method is proposed to calculate the transformation matrix of the input point clouds based on the generated registration results. The proposed generative neural network is trained in a GAN framework by maintaining the data distribution and structure similarity. The experiments on both ModelNet40 and 7Scene datasets demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves state-of-the-art accuracy and efficiency. Notably, our method reduces $2\times$ in registration error (CD) and $12\times$ running time compared to the state-of-the-art correspondence-based algorithm.

Distilling Holistic Knowledge with Graph Neural Networks

Knowledge Distillation (KD) aims at transferring knowledge from a larger well-optimized teacher network to a smaller learnable student network.Existing KD methods have mainly considered two types of knowledge, namely the individual knowledge and the relational knowledge. However, these two types of knowledge are usually modeled independently while the inherent correlations between them are largely ignored. It is critical for sufficient student network learning to integrate both individual knowledge and relational knowledge while reserving their inherent correlation. In this paper, we propose to distill the novel holistic knowledge based on an attributed graph constructed among instances. The holistic knowledge is represented as a unified graph-based embedding by aggregating individual knowledge from relational neighborhood samples with graph neural networks, the student network is learned by distilling the holistic knowledge in a contrastive manner. Extensive experiments and ablation studies are conducted on benchmark datasets, the results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The code has been published in https://github.com/wyc-ruiker/HKD

Emergent gapless topological Luttinger liquid

Gapless Luttinger liquid is conventionally viewed as topologically trivial, unless it hosts degenerate ground states and or entanglement spectrum, which necessitates partial bulk degree of freedom to be gapped out. Here we predict an emergent gapless topological Luttinger liquid which is beyond the conventional scenarios and is characterized by the nontrivial many-body bulk spin texture, and propose feasible scheme for experimental observation. We consider a one-dimensional spin-orbit coupled Fermi-Hubbard model with fractional filling, whose low-energy physics is effectively described by a spinless Luttinger liquid and is trivial in the conventional characterization. We show that, as being tuned by the filling factor and interaction strength, the many-body ground state may exhibit nontrivial winding in its bulk spin texture in the projected momentum space, manifesting an emergent topological phase. A topological transition occurs when the projected spin-state at a high symmetry momentum becomes fully mixed one, resulting from competing processes of particle scattering to the lower and higher subbands, for which the spin texture at such momentum point is ill-defined, but the Luttinger liquid keeps gapless through the transition. Surprisingly, at relatively small filling the Luttinger liquid remains topologically nontrivial even at infinitely strong interaction. The results can be generalized to finite temperature which facilitates the real experimental detection. This work shows a novel gapless topological Luttinger liquid whose characterization is beyond the low-energy effective theory, and can be verified based on current experiments.

Duality between two generalized Aubry-Andre models with exact mobility edges

A mobility edge (ME) in energy separating extended from localized states is a central concept in understanding various fundamental phenomena like the metal-insulator transition in disordered systems. In one-dimensional quasiperiodic systems, there exist a few models with exact MEs, and these models are beneficial to provide exact understanding of ME physics. Here we investigate two widely studied models including exact MEs, one with an exponential hopping and one with a special form of incommensurate on-site potential. We analytically prove that the two models are mutually dual, and further give the numerical verification by calculating the inverse participation ratio and Husimi function. The exact MEs of the two models are also obtained by calculating the localization lengths and using the duality relations. Our result may provide insight into realizing and observing exact MEs in both theory and experiment.

Many-body critical phase: extended and nonthermal

The transition between ergodic phase and many-body localization (MBL) phase lies at the heart in understanding quantum thermalization of many-body systems. Here we predict a many-body critical phase in the one-dimensional extended Aubry-André-Harper-Hubbard model, which is different from both the ergodic phase and MBL phase, implying that the quantum system hosts three different fundamental phases. It is shown that the level statistics in the many-body critical phase are well characterized by the so-called critical statistics, and the wave functions in this phase generally exhibit a multifractal behavior. We further study the half-chain entanglement entropy (EE) and thermalization properties by exact diagonalization, which show that the EE in this critical phase manifest a volume law EE scaling while the many-body states violate the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis. This work unveils a novel many-body phase which is extended but non-ergodic.

XLBoost-Geo: An IP Geolocation System Based on Extreme Landmark Boosting

IP geolocation aims at locating the geographical position of Internet devices, which plays an essential role in many Internet applications. In this field, a long-standing challenge is how to find a large number of highly-reliable landmarks, which is the key to improve the precision of IP geolocation. To this end, many efforts have been made, while many IP geolocation methods still suffer from unacceptable error distance because of the lack of landmarks. In this paper, we propose a novel IP geolocation system, named XLBoost-Geo, which focuses on enhancing the number and the density of highly reliable landmarks. The main idea is to extract location-indicating clues from web pages and locating the web servers based on the clues. Based on the landmarks, XLBoost-Geo is able to geolocate arbitrary IPs with little error distance. Specifically, we first design an entity extracting method based on a bidirectional LSTM neural network with a self-adaptive loss function (LSTM-Ada) to extract the location-indicating clues on web pages and then generate landmarks based on the clues. Then, by measurements on network latency and topology, we estimate the closest landmark and associate the coordinate of the landmark with the location of the target IP. The results of our experiments clearly validate the effectiveness and efficiency of the extracting method, the precision, number, coverage of the landmarks, and the precision of the IP geolocation. On RIPE Atlas nodes, XLBoost-Geo achieves 2,561m median error distance, which outperforms SLG and IPIP.

TPLinker: Single-stage Joint Extraction of Entities and Relations Through Token Pair Linking

Extracting entities and relations from unstructured text has attracted increasing attention in recent years but remains challenging, due to the intrinsic difficulty in identifying overlapping relations with shared entities. Prior works show that joint learning can result in a noticeable performance gain. However, they usually involve sequential interrelated steps and suffer from the problem of exposure bias. At training time, they predict with the ground truth conditions while at inference it has to make extraction from scratch. This discrepancy leads to error accumulation. To mitigate the issue, we propose in this paper a one-stage joint extraction model, namely, TPLinker, which is capable of discovering overlapping relations sharing one or both entities while immune from the exposure bias. TPLinker formulates joint extraction as a token pair linking problem and introduces a novel handshaking tagging scheme that aligns the boundary tokens of entity pairs under each relation type. Experiment results show that TPLinker performs significantly better on overlapping and multiple relation extraction, and achieves state-of-the-art performance on two public datasets.

One dimensional quasiperiodic mosaic lattice with exact mobility edges

The mobility edges (MEs) in energy which separate extended and localized states are a central concept in understanding the localization physics. In one-dimensional (1D) quasiperiodic systems, while MEs may exist for certain cases, the analytic results which allow for an exact understanding are rare. Here we uncover a class of exactly solvable 1D models with MEs in the spectra, where quasiperiodic on-site potentials are inlaid in the lattice with equally spaced sites. The analytical solutions provide the exact results not only for the MEs, but also for the localization and extended features of all states in the spectra, as derived through computing the Lyapunov exponents from Avila's global theory, and also numerically verified by calculating the fractal dimension. We further propose a novel scheme with experimental feasibility to realize our model based on an optical Raman lattice, which paves the way for experimental exploration of the predicted exact ME physics.

ASDN: A Deep Convolutional Network for Arbitrary Scale Image Super-Resolution

Deep convolutional neural networks have significantly improved the peak signal-to-noise ratio of SuperResolution (SR). However, image viewer applications commonly allow users to zoom the images to arbitrary magnification scales, thus far imposing a large number of required training scales at a tremendous computational cost. To obtain a more computationally efficient model for arbitrary scale SR, this paper employs a Laplacian pyramid method to reconstruct any-scale high-resolution (HR) images using the high-frequency image details in a Laplacian Frequency Representation. For SR of small-scales (between 1 and 2), images are constructed by interpolation from a sparse set of precalculated Laplacian pyramid levels. SR of larger scales is computed by recursion from small scales, which significantly reduces the computational cost. For a full comparison, fixed- and any-scale experiments are conducted using various benchmarks. At fixed scales, ASDN outperforms predefined upsampling methods (e.g., SRCNN, VDSR, DRRN) by about 1 dB in PSNR. At any-scale, ASDN generally exceeds Meta-SR on many scales.

Exact mobility edges, $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry breaking and skin effect in one-dimensional non-Hermitian quasicrystals

We propose a general analytic method to study the localization transition in one-dimensional quasicrystals with parity-time ($\mathcal{PT}$) symmetry, described by complex quasiperiodic mosaic lattice models. By applying Avila's global theory of quasiperiodic Schrödinger operators, we obtain exact mobility edges and prove that the mobility edge is identical to the boundary of $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry breaking, which also proves the existence of correspondence between extended (localized) states and $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry ($\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry-broken) states. Furthermore, we generalize the models to more general cases with non-reciprocal hopping, which breaks $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry and generally induces skin effect, and obtain a general and analytical expression of mobility edges. While the localized states are not sensitive to the boundary conditions, the extended states become skin states when the periodic boundary condition is changed to open boundary condition. This indicates that the skin states and localized states can coexist with their boundary determined by the mobility edges.

On Uplink Performance of Multiuser Massive MIMO Relay Network With Limited RF Chains

This paper considers a multiuser massive multiple-input multiple-output uplink with the help of an analog amplify-and-forward relay. The base station equips a large array of $N_d$ antennas but is supported by a far smaller number of radio-frequency chains. By first deriving new results for a cascaded phase-aligned two-hop channel, we obtain a tight bound for the ergodic rate in closed form for both perfect and quantized channel phase information. The rate is characterized as a function of a scaled equivalent signal-to-noise ratio of the two-hop channel. It implies that the source and relay powers can be respectively scaled down as $1/N_d^a$ and $1/N_d^{1-a}~ (0\!\leq\!a\!\leq\!1)$ for an asymptotically unchanged sum rate. Then for the rate maximization, the problem of power allocation is optimized with closed-form solutions. Simulation results verified the observations of our derived results.

Edge corona product as an approach to modeling complex simplical networks

Many graph products have been applied to generate complex networks with striking properties observed in real-world systems. In this paper, we propose a simple generative model for simplicial networks by iteratively using edge corona product. We present a comprehensive analysis of the structural properties of the network model, including degree distribution, diameter, clustering coefficient, as well as distribution of clique sizes, obtaining explicit expressions for these relevant quantities, which agree with the behaviors found in diverse real networks. Moreover, we obtain exact expressions for all the eigenvalues and their associated multiplicities of the normalized Laplacian matrix, based on which we derive explicit formulas for mixing time, mean hitting time and the number of spanning trees. Thus, as previous models generated by other graph products, our model is also an exactly solvable one, whose structural properties can be analytically treated. More interestingly, the expressions for the spectra of our model are also exactly determined, which is sharp contrast to previous models whose spectra can only be given recursively at most. This advantage makes our model a good test-bed and an ideal substrate network for studying dynamical processes, especially those closely related to the spectra of normalized Laplacian matrix, in order to uncover the influences of simplicial structure on these processes.

Realization and detection of non-ergodic critical phases in optical Raman lattice

The critical phases, being delocalized but non-ergodic, are fundamental phases which are different from both the many-body localization and ergodic extended quantum phases, and have so far not been realized in experiment. Here we propose to realize such critical phases with and without interaction based on a topological optical Raman lattice scheme, which possesses one-dimensional spin-orbit coupling and an incommensurate Zeeman potential. We demonstrate the existence of both the noninteracting and many-body critical phases, which can coexist with the topological phase, and show that the critical-localization transition coincides with the topological phase boundary in noninteracting regime. The dynamical detection of the critical phases is proposed and studied in detail. Finally, we demonstrate how the proposed critical phases can be achieved based on the current cold atom experiments. This work paves the way to observe the novel critical phases.
